I want to love this bakery, but I simply can't. The food tastes ok, but they got my order wrong. I ordered an 8" round cake for my daughters birthday. I wanted it to have the rose swirls on it. The guy on the phone wasn't sure what I meant, so I emailed them a picture. I received a response saying, no problem, order confirmed. When I went to pick up the cake, it looked NOTHING like the picture! The icing pattern was completely different. When I mentioned my disappointment, the girl said, "Oh, we don't have the right tip to make the rose swirl icing, so we do this instead- its a pretty common request." Ok... I have a few issues with this: 1. Why was I not informed? 2. Why was I not offered a discount when my order was wrong? 3. Why was I not apologized to? 4. The most obvious- IF THIS IS A COMMON REQUEST AND YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL CAKE SHOP THEN WHY DON'T YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TIP?!!! read more

I was just so disappointed with Miranda at the cake tasting for my sisters wedding. Asked a simple question about the cake and oh wow was she rude. I'm in culinary school now so I know certain things and the questions I asked Miranda were very simple and she snapped at me and said "no that's not simple at all" she was very rude and snide. read more

I can't speak to their lunch service or pre-made cakes, but I've been trying to schedule a wedding cake consultation for more than a week. The website has an area for you to schedule a tasting so I filled it out and heard nothing. Then I called on Saturday (which is when she is supposed to be there doing tastings) but I was told she was out and would return later in the day so I left my number with the employee and heard nothing. I tried again yesterday with the same result. I'm a HUGE supporter of local businesses and I really really wanted my cake to come from my "neighborhood bakery" but they obviously don't need my business. Yummy. When planning my wedding I was recommended MacEntyre's by a co-worker who had ordered her cake from them. I set up the cake tasting for 9:30 in the morning (yes I know, cake for breakfast... mmmm). We got there a little early so the fiance insisted on getting pastries. Yes... we were eating pastries before eating cake. At 9:00 in the morning. He got a donut and a cheese danish. I don't like either but he insisted I try the cheese danish. It was so good!!! And I don't even like them! Fast forward to cake tasting time... everything was wonderful. We ordered our cake from them and the price is comparable to or cheaper than a Publix cake, but much better quality. Everybody loved it. The only think keeping me from making this a five star review is the service at the counter. When I went for the tasting, everybody was huddled together and didn't seem to realize we were standing there. Then when I went back to drop off my cake topper, one of the people working there was getting pissy at the other asking if "you are going to get that girl". None of that is too important if you just run in for breakfast, but if you order a cake from them, be sure you stay on top of it. read more

Oh how I love a bakery. This place was no different! There is just something special about being surrounded by delicious sweet treats in glass cases! I went specifically for some little cake squares. Amazing moist, almond-y squares of wedding cake goodness. Just the right amount of frosting too! Got some fun cupcakes for the kiddies, plus a cream cheese Danish that made my heart sing. Buttery pastry and sweet cream cheese are always a winning combo. They also make a delish chicken salad. Try the little mini croissants with chicken salad or pimiento cheese! People as sweet as the cakes they make. And I know cakes. I shouldn't know them as well as I do, but I do. So take my word for it. There's something about the buttercream icing that just gets better as it sets into the cake. Not that it sits long around my house. I'm a grown woman yet look forward to every child's birthday so I can order a cake from McIntyre's. Heck, who needs birthdays for cake? Flag Day - cake. Columbus Day - cake. National Cake Day (not sure if there is one but there should be) - cake! They always whip stuff up quick and everything always looks cute. I tend to give them little instruction and call at the last minute and they always amaze me. I would totally hate me as a customer yet they're always very polite and they never let me feel like I'm putting them out. And I like their whole "if it ain't broke don't fix it" philosophy. As much of a fan as I am of hyperbole, "best bakery ever" is reaching. In my two visits to McEntyre's Bakery (three if you count virtual) they had the opportunity to wow me but came up short. Firstly, their website is like circa mid-90's Web 1.0, and navigating through the menus was laborious. They didn't feature have what I ended up getting, which was a customized triple chocolate cake. They did have their hours of operation on there, and for all of you working stiffs out there, they close at 6PM on weekdays. On the first visit, the cake ordering process was simple enough, and their display cases are wonderful. They totally fished me in on a puffy carrot cake muffin for like $1.75...which is awesome, except the frosting was not cream cheese, only plain vanilla frosting. This is just wrong in my book; carrot cake + cream cheese frosting = eternal awesomeness. (See, I really do loves me some hyperbole) On the second visit, which was around a 2PM on a Saturday, the place was hopping. I was asked three times if I had been helped, and each time I said no, an employee walked away and never came back. When I was presented my cake, which I had requested (and paid an additional $4 for) strawberries on tufts of strawberry cream cheese icing, I was disappointed that they had somehow located the two smallest strawberries in Georgia (yay hyperbole) and sparingly adorn them with as little icing as would make them stay on the cake. I had wanted to try one of the red velvet donuts, but there was so much chaos, I took my cake and left. The cake was meh, typical devil's food cake, kinda floury. McEntyre's has a great thing going with their prices. I'm glad they call Smyrna home, because we are in desperate need of some good Mom and Pop places to shop. LUNCH REVIEW Stopped in for a sandwich after seeing the tables outside the front. Staff is attentive and friendly and happy to make suggestions and answer questions. The deli menu has a handful of tasty selections--chicken salad, egg salad, club, etc. all served on your choice of bread or fresh croissant. All come with chips, a pickle and a drink for $6.99--pretty reasonable, don't you think? Filling and inexpensive lunch. When I go here I'm reminded of the bakeries I would go to in New York when I was a kid. The smell of bread baking makes me want to just sit there all day. While there I suggest you try the fried pies, they are amazing. Ok, let me start off by saying i haven't tried everything this bakery has to offer. I have tried their cupcakes. Favorite was the red velvet due to the icing and the moistness of the cake. The petit fours are what I come here for. I called Thursday for a custom pick up Saturday. The lady I spoke to on the phone was so so lovely. We went over a few times what I wanted and although they couldn't do exactly what I asked for (due to copyright infringement? Which I've never heard a bakery actually mention haha) but regardless we had a plan. When I picked them up they not only were decorated poorly. (I mean, a bakery for sure needs to have an artist on hand who can actually execute aesthetic) but I had asked for an "AU" symbol for Auburn (again was told they couldn't do the exact one bc of legal issues ). When I showed up there was only an "A". And an A that looks nothing like the Auburn A. Almost more like an Atlanta Braves "A". I was disappointed the U didn't make it on them but all and all I was just dissatisfied with the design in general. All it takes is googling "Auburn" to at-least try to make it look somewhat close. Even the "war eagles" were faint and sad looking. I was expecting thick beautiful icing. I'll keep coming back because the flavor of these are too good & every employee in there is quite lovely. I actually found that the pies here have preserves that are too sweet. If they just let the natural sweetness come from the fruits they are using I think the pies would be fantastic. I think you can customize sweetness level atleast 48 hours in advance. What was fantastic though was the red velvet cake and the fried apple and peach pie. My family has been getting every birthday and shower cake from McEntyre's for about eight years now and every cake has been delicious. When I got engaged, it was a no brainer that I would go to McEntyre's for my wedding cake and it was great! Admittedly, we wanted a simple cake, but our consultation was awesome. We actually sat down with one of the owners and he was so easy to work with and helpful. The cakes we chose were very reasonably priced, turned out exactly how we wanted, and we didn't have any leftovers. That's how good it was. The groom's cake and the wedding cake were completely gone. I've never gone to a wedding where that's happened. All in all, I've always loved the cakes I've gotten from this bakery and will continue to order from them. read more

I'll start by admitting I'm not the easiest to please with baked goods. I have high standards so the fact that I'm impressed every time I pick something up from McEntyre's speaks for itself! This is my go-to, around the corner bakery when I need to pick up something delicious. Their cake squares are perfect for showers or get togethers and if you order in advance you can get custom decorations on top. Larger than a petit four, they are the perfect bite sized treat. I had high-hopes for the mini croissants with pimento cheese but wasn't overly impressed. They keep them refrigerated all day so it seemed quite soggy. Had the special which was the club sub. It was decent. I also ordered the fried peach pie and fried cinnamon roll. When I walked in the atmosphere was nostalgic, it reminded me of a bakery outside of Chicago I used to go to called Calumet Bakery. A variety of goodies to choose from. The only thing was I ordered potato salad to go with it and they forgot to put it in. I called after I got home and they offered to credit for next visit and I appreciated the good customer service on the phone. I will return and not just to pick up my potato salad. read more

Just moved to this area of Atlanta. I saw this bakery while I was exploring my surroundings. Stop in last Friday on the way to work. Cakes, cookies, pies, fresh breads.....Tried the donuts. I am revising my original rating of McEntyres Bakery after picking up an order last weekend. If I could give the bakery zero stars, I would. In fact. I couldn't be paid to go there again. I am most upset with the bakery for their lack of professionalism. I ordered a gender reveal cake. Upon picking it up, they had the blue swatch attached the the order. In addition, the cake did not look like what the associate and I had discussed. I wanted a simple white cake- with light grey fondant circles (sounds simple, right?). The cake was white but the fondant circles were a deep purple. I was told they would fix this and to return in 30 minutes to pick up. I was in the grocery store when I received a call from the owner telling me he wasn't going to do any work on this cake until I approved the color. He did agree with me that the fondant was not the color I had originally approved- but still refused to begin work until I returned. When I got back to the bakery I let them know I just wanted to take my cake as is. Knowing I would not give them business again, I wanted to leave as soon as possible. It was then they accidentally showed me the color swatch. Had I not felt that I would burst into tears, I would have spoken with someone about my experience in person. It was a terrible experience and not the owner or a single associate once apologized. And, the icing on the cake- metaphorically speaking- was when my husband and I cut the cake- it was three layers when I had requested and paid for four. Literally, the only thing they got right about this cake was making the outside white. I hope another bakery establishes itself in smyrna and fast. I believe McEntyres is busy because it is the only option in the area (other than big box grocery store). Since my experience, I have heard two more similar experiences from previous customers. I know that I, and they, would eagerly patronize another business and hope it either drives McEntyres out of forces them to raise their standards. read more

I have had 2 great experiences at the bakery. Their chicken salad is fantastic. Cupcakes and cookies--very good. Today, however, my husband purchased chocolate covered strawberries for my birthday. The first one I started to eat was a mess of decomposing strawberry mush. I then examined the remaining 5 by pulling them out of their chocolate shells. All of the strawberries had mold spots on them and were in varying stages of decomposition. Gross. All of this said, maybe it was a one time problem. I do know my husband will never eat another thing from there and I will be more than cautious. read more

They sell stale products as newly baked. Today I bought a cake for a celebration. Ordered it ahead of time, and they gave me one from the case when I went to pick it up. I asked if it was a new cake and was told yes, baked today! NO WAY. The cake was dry and crumbly, obviously a day or two old, if not more.... and this was after I ordered ahead of time and I paid a lot of money for it. They have done this before with cookies.... I bought a huge platter of cookies around Xmas time that I took to an event, and they were also dry and stale. I was embarrassed I had even brought them. I think I'm done with this bakery. It's just dishonest to pass off a 1-2 day old cake as new and then give it to a customer who ordered ahead of time and then give that customer an old cake instead of a new one. Very disappointed. Came in to check out our local bakery and did not expect to be greeted with a plethora of so many various treats! Cookies, macaroons, cupcakes, pies, donuts, breads, spreads, even some deli favs like chicken salad and pimento cheese! What a find! Was only going to try one item but ended up with a box full of various delights: gingerbread cookie for the little girl, fried apple pie for the little boy, Bavarian and sour cream donuts, and a macadamia nut cookie.
