Dope spot in downtown santa ana for arcades, drinks and music. There's a bunch of pinball machines, 4 tokens per play. There's an outside sink on floor for you to wash your hands, 2 tokens machine for you to exchange coins. Air hockey table in the back. Overall dope spot to come after having dinner and dessert im downtown santa ana.

No idea why these were added and games gone

Literally would be my go to spot but, yall got rid of all of your good games! My brother wanted to come here and spend time for his birthday. We were ready to play some fighting games but they were all gone! I would always recommend this spot to my friends as we are competitive. They added these for what? You guys don't do tickets. We just want some cool games that were there before. It's unfortunate I will be looking my business elsewhere unless they bring back their game machines.

A couple months late but I had my birthday at Mission Control that's located in the McFadden Public Market (upstairs). I would have another event here no questions asked. Sonny (the manager) was super helpful with scheduling the event, he made sure that everything leading up to and during the event was perfect for us and gave us full range to decorate the deck. (I didn't want much but I still appreciated the 'go-ahead'). The price of the deck and the deck itself was perfect for the amount of people we had. The bar staff was super friendly and made sure the drinks were flowing for us. The arcade itself, I was too busy to play but my guests throughly enjoyed the games, photos booth and music. Thank you to Sonny and the staff for helping to keep us safe, make sure we enjoyed ourselves and for taking care of us for my birthday. Side note - don't be discouraged by parking. There are two parking structures direct across the street off Main St. the parking directly behind the building is private and with a little research discovery, you will see it mentioned on the site about the parking.

I wanted to like this bar, but ultimately I don't think it was for me. I found Mission Control on Yelp. I really liked the concept. I loved the video game theme and was so excited to give them a try. We found a $5 parking garage nearby and walked over. The entrance was a little difficult to find, but we got there eventually. When we arrived, it was around 11pm on a Saturday night. There were less people than I was expecting at this time, and it was not as lively as I'd hoped it'd be. The DJ, despite the vacant dance floor, was pretty good, and a couple of guests were having a good time dancing together. In the arcade section, some other guests were enjoying the collection of games with drinks in hand. But although these (regulars?) seemed to be enjoying their night, I just couldn't get into the swing of things. Perhaps it was the lukewarm ambiance. Or maybe the fact that I didn't like my drink. I got "The Smash Ball," a Jameson cocktail with lemon juice, mint, and simple syrup. It tasted abrasive, like that harsh taste you get from bottled lemon juice. My friends' cocktails tasted fine, but I ended up chugging mine. But another complaint I have is that all three cocktails looked the same, despite being three different drinks. I suppose since I came into this bar expecting a "video game theme," I was expecting the cocktails to also be a little bit more dressed up? I did not feel that there was anything particularly "Smash Ball" - esque about my drink.  I was expecting a little more from this experience and left disappointed.

We didn't have any drinks here, so this review is only for the gameplay side of Mission Control. I was excited to check it out because I love arcades and the vibe here is great, dimly lit with purple/blue LED lighting and a bar atmosphere. Unfortunately, several machines were broken and ate my tokens without working. I had to track down an employee three different times, and eventually was told that if it kept happening they wouldn't give me my tokens back... which felt a little unfair since it wasn't my fault the machines were faulty. Definitely frustrating. That said, one thing I loved, there's a sink right outside the bathrooms to wash your hands after touching all the arcade games. Such a small but fantastic touch. Overall, cool vibe and concept, but the broken machines were a letdown. Minus one star for that.

Real live video games and pinball. Be still, my heart.

It's probably hard for most people to imagine but there was a time when there were bookstores everywhere. There were also video game arcades everywhere. I know, I know, this was hundreds of years ago. Well, there are hardly any bookstores or arcades left but thankfully, there are still a few of both kinds, here and there. Mission Control is an arcade located above a mini food hall and a tiki bar of all things. The arcade is heavy on the pinball games so if pinball is your jam, you are in luck. There are some old classic games, too, like Galaga and Ms. Pac Man Nearly all the games cost a buck to play. That seems expensive to me but again, if you're not playing games here, good luck finding an arcade somewhere else. They also have a gorgeous, sleek bar in the arcade with an absolute ton of interesting craft beers. Kids are welcome here but apparently not so at night. Good luck finding parking. There is very limited street parking. Otherwise, there are some pay garages nearby. Better support these dinosaurs or they really will go extinct.

One of my favorite pinball machines, I'm not that great, but damnit i got that dog in me and I'ma beat me

You can't beat the atmosphere, there's a lot going on between the Tiki bar downstairs. The awesome food court with a diverse selection of foods. They even have coffee for those people that are into that but mission control has to take the cake between the good beers, the awesome drinks, the great vibes not to mention the pinball machines to keep anyone entertained 100% recommend this place to everybody it's also family friendly so bring everyone. Work off the pizza and wings on the way up to mission control

Stopped in while I was waiting for my daughter, good vibes for sure. It's a younger crowd and I'm likely standing out a bit in my Dad uniform, but there's alcohol and pinball machines so whatever, I'm in. :P The machines are in good working order, there's a live DJ, and a well staffed bar with good selection of beer and mixed drinks - what else do you need? ;)

Took my brother here for his 42nd birthday and it was a blast. The place is packed with retro arcade games, from Guitar Hero (6 tokens) to The Simpsons (just 1 token). Tokens are only a quarter, so you can go wild without breaking the bank. My brothers favorite game was venom pinball. The energy was electric with line dancing happening in the background, and they even have cup holders built into the machines, genius. Parking's across the street with 2 hours free, and dogs are welcome on the patio. Surprisingly lively for a Friday night, and totally worth it for gamers and nostalgia lovers alike.

Food service and Ambiance were all top notch and the drinks were made correctly and bartenders were informed and friendly. Hardest part was finding it and then finding parking! There is parking in the back but they do charge.

We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday.

Nice little spot upstairs above another restaurant. At first we got lost and thought we were in the wrong building. The people downstairs for the restaurant let us know to go up the stairs! Parking was very busy the night we went but it was also a Saturday night so that makes sense. We parked in the parking garage across the street. Didn't order any food but the drinks were good. It's a nice place to play some arcade games and chill with friends. After 9pm it becomes 21+ and a Dj plays music.

Ask the Community - Mission Control

Does this place accommodate private parties?

Is there an entrance fee? If so how much would it be? Are the games unlimited or we'll be using tokens?

No entrance fee at least earlier in the evening. We ended up there at about 9-10pm after dinner. All games take tokens that can be purchased at the bar or via coin machine.

Does this place have pool tables?

No pool tables at all. Just the pinball and coin op stand up games.

Confirming my 13 year is ok before 9:00 pm on a Friday if accompanied by my 21 year old and myself?

    Yep should be totally fine

Does this place takes reservations for outside patio on Wednesdays?

I have tokens from before the pandeminini ... can you still use them now?

    Yes you can!

I see it is upstairs, is there an elevator or is it not accessible to disabled people?

Not accessible for disabled people unfortunately

Is this place kid friendly? Thinking of going today (Saturday) And are these games free play? Or you have to pay to play?

There is a bar upstairs so I'm not sure if kids are allowed and you do have to pay to play

Is "Bare Naked Pole" still popping up to do Pierogi?

Are children allowed inside (1 yr old)?

I highly recommend not since it is loud and I don't think it's safe. But people do bring kids during the weekends before the late crowd comes in

Do you have Donkey Kong or any Mario games right now?

    Yes they do

List of arcade games? Just trying to take a date there and trying to get an idea of games?

HI Juan, we don't have a list because they rotate a lot. are you looking for a certain game?

Are you guys taking reservations for games because of COVID or can people just show up?

Hi Kaylin, no reservations needed! our hours or operations are posted here on yelp. see you soon.

Was just wondering, are y'all open?

Yes, we will be open Friday 5-11, Saturday and Sunday 1-11 See You this weekend.

    Are you open again?

No I’m sorry we are not, but we can’t wait to reopen and have everyone come and enjoy Mission Control again. Please follow our Instagram to keep updated on our reopening

Are you guys open for game play now?

Hi Serena, unfortunately we have been shut down again due to COVID numbers rising again in OC. Follow us on Instagram @arcademissioncontrol for all our updates. Thank you for the support.

Random curiosity, is this business related in anyway to an arcade also named mission control back in the 90's off Brookhurst in Westminster?

I don't believe so as the MC of the late 80's & early 90's couldn't be touched in style, attitude, & atmosphere as compared to today's so called arcades. I think it was open from 82 to 94 by a guy named Brad & operated daily by the living legend… Read more

I was lucky enough to stumble across this gem of the center of OC when they first opened - and I am proud to be a regular here. I don't know how to go somewhere else - because I feel like the staff are giant gems in this jewel of a spot. Winters is a curator of boozy information that has helped me learn about "gin" and "root beer whiskey" so I can sound like an adult-ish purveyor, when really I know close to nothing except being a willing student to his creations. Dan the Man and Jacob always see me raise my hand in the corner of the bar, like the student I am, and have been willing to fill in the blanks for me when I know I am of thirst, but do not have the words for what to order. Every person working in the well has treated me with kindness - they have taken the time to get to know me, and I will be forever appreciative of how they have taken care of me over the years. But the real joy has been the transformation that this spot has for building a community of people in Santa Ana for real recognizing real. I have been bringing my Dad with me to play pool for the past few years. Sometimes people ask me if he plays professionally, I am terrible, and my skill incline is slow, he is patient and plays with the same level craftiness that the staff offer the cocktails. My Dad is always stoked when we have time to go have a few hours of games at 616 - especially now that there are regulars on 4th street that are excited to see that he is there playing - and they rush to write their names on the chalkboard to challenge him - or beat him in a game they really earned the W. On lazy Sundays, I watch couples sit with their drink, listening to Jazz, and watching my Dad whoop my ass while making amazing shots. I am forever grateful to Memo who sometimes takes a break from his shift behind the bar to give my dad an actual challenge - which allows me the chance to watch my Dad enjoy fellowship around the table. Knowing the table was a relic of the bars former self, and knowing the history that this spot has in Santa Ana is a reminder that so much around us can change - but it is those moments of the crack of the rack, the cheer of getting the combo shot, and the shake of hands when it's over that shows that it's not just about the pool table - but about the energy of a place that is welcoming and curated by people who care about what they do - and care about who comes through their doors. Thank you Jason and Mike B to bringing this to 4th St and supporting the community that was already here - and for building a community for the future. Thank you to Christina and Brandon for always having amazing pictures, decor, and fun events at 616 that help introduce new folks into this great spot. Time is short. Learn about Root Beer Whiskey. After a farewell dinner to/at Gulliver's Prime Ribs Of Beef, our party of six continued the evening several miles away at Stowaway for some light bites and libations. Personally, I was all about the Hawaiiana tiki culture and tried to live it every day. Founded by co-owners Leonard Chan and Dominic Iapello, its current home of barely three years in a former dive bar came about when they unceremoniously had to leave the original location. With its proximity to Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room and the very niche underground-like society of tiki culture, they found their footing with a consistent customer base and the thrill of island escapism through colorful cocktails, pleasurable pupus, and tropical trimmings. Would I stow myself away somewhere inside and never leave!? PURCHASE(S) Don Q Punch Bowl ($38.00): Made with Don Q's Cristal Silver, Anejo, and 151 Gold Rums, respectively, peach brandy, passion fruit, pineapple juice, and citrus juices, this flaming concoction was rumtastic in every way possible as the tropical juices just made it that much sweeter. There were more ice chips than I liked, but it was a fun trough to drink out of for the four of us who wanted to imbibe. Coconut Shrimp 6pc ($12.00): Breaded and flash-fried plump shrimp served with a sweet chili dipping sauce, these were tasty and perfectly paired with the Don Q cocktail I was drinking. Stowaway Fries ($17.00): Constructed with a pile of crisp golden spud sticks, rum braised pork, and topped with a hearty gravy and sunny-side up egg, this loco moco fries dish was slamming while the slightly charred juicy pork had me squealing with enjoyment. SERVICE We had reservations, so once our entire party arrived, they quickly seated us in a cool cave-live separate alcove for more privacy. Our server arrived with menus, suggestions, and glasses of water. Minutes later, we all ordered at once, and everything (drinks and food) arrived within ten minutes. Because we had another reservation inside the same bar, we informed our male server and to let us know when we were allowed to go there. All was casual, chill, and somewhat on island time - aloha and mahalo! PARKING (FREE): They shared a medium-sized private lot with several other businesses who were closed at this time with plenty of spots - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Located within a strip mall, you opened the front door and walked into an island oasis as if you were a cast member on "Gilligan's Island" with thatched roof material above you, tiki statues displaced on all of the volcanic-looking walls, collections of tiki mugs past and present for purchase, a central square bar with plenty of stools, and seemingly small dark nooks and private spaces where naughty things could happen. No natural lighting whatsoever while an assortment of extremely low-lit electric lights barely guided you along. There were no TVs while I recalled various styles of music played in the background along with chatter and clamor of conversations in all directions. ATTIRE Although I was actually dressed appropriately for the occasion in an aloha shirt, linen pants, and flip-flops, this place was totally casual, so a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops would suffice. OVERALL I had a cowabunga time at Stowaway, and I couldn't wait to return to try more of their awesome-soundling elixirs. I loved tiki bars, and although this was generally out of my range, I'd make a special trip or two here. My one drink was lip-smacking good, the pupus were yummy, the prices were reasonable enough, the atmosphere was stupendous, and the service was friendly and professional. While the drinks menu was loaded with tropical cocktails, an impressive rum selection, and a decent assortment of local craft beers, the food menu was somewhat limited. And, the bar had happy hour TU-FR 4pm-6pm. Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $75.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

I came in with friends and ordered a pitcher along with several shots. The server, a young white male, brought the shots and only one cup of beer. I immediately told him I had ordered a pitcher, but he insisted I never said that -- even though I had already been charged. To avoid arguing, I told him to just bring a pitcher and charge me again respectfully. He refused and told me I would have to go back and wait in line if I wanted one. When I asked to speak with a manager, he said the manager was unavailable. We later noticed him walking around the patio taking pitcher requests from other customers and bringing them directly to their tables without sending them back in line. We politely asked again, and he said "okay," but repeatedly ignored us, walking past our table multiple times. When my friend followed up, he suddenly claimed he couldn't serve us and again told us to get back in line. There was no clear reason for the difference in treatment. Watching others get served while we were repeatedly refused, despite being respectful customers, made the situation feel discriminatory. As Latino customers in a predominantly Latino community, the behavior came across as biased and unacceptable. It's extremely disappointing because I've supported this place for nearly a decade and had never experienced anything like this before. Unfortunately, this interaction completely changed my view of this establishment. I would not recommend coming here if respectful and fair service matters to you.

After our party of six chatted over cocktails and preyed on pupus, we moved to a "secret" room tucked in the back of Stowaway and walked into a Belly Of The Beast. The founders and co-owners of Stowaway, Leonard Chan and Dominic Iapello, created this extension to the tiki bar with a wildly interesting Pinocchio theme and the famed encounter with Monstro the whale all the while serving the same offerings in Stowaway but with also an exclusive limited menu just for this adventure. With its proximity to Disneyland and its Enchanted Tiki Room, with the very niche underground-like society of tiki culture they found a consistent customer base and the thrill of island escapism through colorful cocktails, pleasurable pupus, tropical trimmings, and nostalgic know-how. How would my belly handle the beastly drinks concocted here!? PURCHASE(S) Gepetto's Last Words ($16.00): Intrigued by the cocktail's name, this elixir was crafted with Fid Street Gin, tangerine, creme de violette, lemon, and cucumber, it was a citrusy refreshing sweet drink that was decorated with bright yellow petals. It was nice, but for whatever reason it just didn't quite hit the spot. [ONION RINGS/STRAWS/STRINGS ALERT - 4.0 of 5.0 STARS] Onion Rings ($9.00): A decent portion with rings of medium to large sizes, these were hot, dark golden browned, crunchy, and had a slight tendency to crumble when bitten into while the onion ring (sweet Maui!) rarely pulled out at times. They were lightly oily while the catsup wasn't needed but used. SERVICE While in Stowaway, we informed our male server to let us know when we were allowed to enter the belly. Once inside and situated, we had the place and bartender to ourselves. After we all perused the menu, we placed our orders, and everything arrived within ten minutes. The rest of the time was spent chatting, picture taking, and our bartender checked in on us also giving a Dole Whip taster. All was casual, chill, and somewhat on island time - aloha and mahalo! PARKING (FREE): They shared a medium-sized private lot with several other businesses who were closed at this time with plenty of spots - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE "Hidden" inside Stowaway which was located within a strip mall, the entire theme was based on the Pinocchio story, the interlude in time spent inside Monstro, and as we entered it felt like the beginning of the Disneyland "Storybook" ride as you road a canal boat into the mouth and sharp teet of a whale. There were several marionettes (appropriate and non-appropriate) that hung from the ceiling and belly walls, along with other Disneyesque memorabilia, a few sitting booths, and a tiny bar at the end of the roo. No natural lighting whatsoever while an assortment of extremely low-lit electric lights and table candles glowed. There were no TVs while I couldn't recall any background music. ATTIRE Although I was actually dressed appropriately for the occasion in an aloha shirt, linen pants, and flip-flops, this place was totally casual, so a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops would suffice. OVERALL Belly Of The Beast was an adventurous fun evening with friends, it left me feeling childlike with the need to watch "Pinocchio", and I couldn't wait to return to try more of their awesome-soundling elixirs. I generally loved all-things Disneyana, and this new wrinkle, albeit probably not approved by the mouse ears brass, caught my fancy. My one drink was tasty but just didn't hit the right spot, the onion rings were very good, the prices were a tad elevated, the atmosphere was awesome, and the service was friendly and professional. They had an extremely limited menu, and there was some doubt whether or not ordering from the Stowaway menu was an option. Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $27.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS
