I ordered the Little Italy with chips, drink, and a pickle. I love and good pickle that isn't a typical sour dill. The sandwich was amazing, the bread was so soft. Sandwich's are the same size, doubles are double the meat. This is a total Packers hangout, there is Packers swag everywhere. I could spend all day looking at everything. This attractive joint was packed on a Friday afternoon which should tell you something. It told me a lot of people were playing hooky from work to enjoy the draft beers and excellent sandwiches available. Of course, I was only there myself on a Friday afternoon as a faithful unpaid restaurant reviewer. The Spicy sandwich is absolutely packed with hot pastrami and other meats. I got the double meat version and it's a squat sandwich but extremely fat. It honestly looks really small but it's a belly buster, trust me. Make sure and exercise your snake jaws beforehand. It has tons of flavor and is an outstanding sandwich. The Smoked Turkey and Gouda with bacon added was fresh and delicious. The Turkey and Avocado came on delicious squaw bread and was simple and nice. We also tried the potato salad, pasta salad, and artichoke hearts, but only the artichoke hearts were above average. The sides were fine but not essential. Don't forget about the incredible canned and bottled beers and soft drinks for sale along the far wall. Even better, unless the beverages are packaged, you can pull off a single can or bottle for purchase, just like you can at Trader Joe's (yes, really). Every store, and I mean, every store, should do this. This is top notch service and, presumably, smart business. Speaking of service, the counter fellow was extremely friendly and appreciative. We ordered takeout but the vibes here were great. If I had had the time, I would have gotten a sandwich and a draft beer or three and hung out for a couple of hours. I don't leave poor reviews often, but my experience has been had by others and should be mentioned again. I spent $25 for a "double" sandwich to go. Nothing else. I received 2 halves that were smaller than my fiancé's smaller palms and probably at most 3 inches each. I ate it 8 minutes after and they were already soggy. Flavor was okay but I have never felt so disappointed with a portion at a deli. The people were nice and friendly but I will go somewhere else at those prices. I realize the food isn't always cheap on a restaurant's end but this seemed like costs being passed onto consumers at an obscene margin. Dropped by this spot on the way to the beach and it did not disappoint!! The menu is straight forward with what seems to be some specials and fan favorites. My sandwich was delicious and instead of getting a number you get a drink company card thing, which is fun. I didn't grab any of the drinks but there were a ton of options and you could mix and match. Everyone was so nice but the turn around time was a little longer than I expected for the food, but it was worth it, plus the pickle was a treat. It's Sandwich Saturday and I was craving an Italian sandwich super hard! Hollingshead popped up via Yelp and what's super crazy is I knew exactly where that was. I've seen it a lot being in my hometown, but I've only gone past it. It was the Great Scott, which I plan to have next time! But back to the main event -- my delicious-ness photos of the Little Italy! It... hit... the... spot!!! It was so good! I wanted extra meat and cheese, thus making it a Double. The mild peppers with the artichokes was perfection! A masterful delicatessen moment for my taste buds! I'm a huge fan of mortadella. This sandwich had the perfect flavor pairing with the zest from the artichokes, pepper, and vinegar. Texture was good as well. The French roll served well with the meats, cheese, and vegetables. Something else bomb about this place is that it's a sports heavy, especially towards Cheeseheads (Green Bay Packers). You can watch the game here and get a beer! There are so many beers to select from. They even have soda pop for those non-drinkers. Hank's is one of the best soda pop companies. Yum! Going back to the Packers -- it is definitely decked out with a lot of green and yellow. It looks cool and has personality. There are Green Bay Packers memorabilia and merch hanging from all corners of the place. It makes sense since the original founders are from Wisconsin! A very cool and unique style the restaurant has is instead of calling out orders with numbers, like most places... they will give you a card of a beverage. Your que to get your order is when they call out your drink name! How different is that!? I do move supporting traditional mom-and-pops. This one was established in 1963! That is unbelievable! Again, I'm born and raised in this area and cannot believe it was my first time today. Better late than never, I guess! Besides, they have one of the best potato chips -- Zapp's Voodoo! The first best chip ever is the purple bag called Hawaiian Kettle Style Potato Chips in Sweet Maui Onion. Parking wise -- I can see that it may become an issue. The strip mall that it's in can get packed due to the number of businesses located there. Next time, I plan to come with my boyfriend. I noticed the owner of the place is a packers fan & so there are packers gears hung up against the wall which was different & cool. It's definitely a different feel compared to other spots I've been to. As for the sandwiches, I usually ordered their albacore tuna salad or turkey & avocado. It sounds simple but so good. It's served on squaw bread which is soft & delicious. One thing I love about this place is that they don't stuff their sandwiches with extra meat or too much condiments like other places. It fits perfectly in your mouth. Hubby always got the pastrami & Swiss which is served on rye bread. Another good delicious choice. Honestly one of the best delis in OC. It's a Packers bar, so definitely a fun spot if you're a fan! They serve a ton of beer and DELICIOUS sandwiches. For starters, we had a heck of a time finding this place. The address says it's on Main Street, but it's actually facing a side street. We almost went to another restaurant because we were so frustrated trying to find Hollingshead's. Then when we got our sandwiches, my husband found his sandwich wasn't warm and toasted, the way he likes it. The owner told us that he doesn't have a toaster, he steams his bread. Well yuck, that doesn't work. My husband's sandwich was barely warm and pasty-looking, and the pastrami sandwich my sis and I shared was soft and mushy, not at all appetizing.
