    Royale with Cheese
    Tessa H.

This was a great visit for OC Restaurant Week! Chapter One is located in downtown Santa Ana. The parking lot next door only lets you pay for 8 hours at a time - $7.20. There's also some metered street parking if you can find a spot. We made a reservation but it wasn't necessary on a Tuesday night. Our server, Ayda, was great! She explained all the menu options and gave great recommendations. To drink, we had a Paloma ($13) and a Banana Bread Old Fashioned ($16). For dinner, we went with the $35 3-course Restaurant Week special. Appetizer, we did beef empanada and lumpia. Both came with a homemade sauce (chimichurri for the empanada and a sweet chili for the lumpia) that were divine. Main course, my partner did the Royale With Cheese (great name!). It came with a TON of fries and was a large burger too. Really big portion. I did the bacon wrapped meatloaf. I was hesitant, but I really liked it! It was not dry like I remember other meatloafs I've had in the past being. It was also a fairly large portion, came with Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. Finally, dessert was served! Vanilla bread pudding. It was delicious! Our server offered us coffee with our dessert and ended up not charging us for if when the wait ended up being a bit longer than expected. She didn't have to do that, but we did appreciate her thoughtfulness with that! We saw they have live jazz on Wednesday nights, so we definitely want to return for that!

Chapter One is one of my favorite spots in downtown Santa Ana for a night out. The ambiance is warm, inviting, and just the right amount of romantic, with cozy lighting that makes it easy to settle in and enjoy the evening. If you're a jazz fan, be sure to check out their Wednesday night jazz sessions--they add a great vibe to an already charming space. The food is consistently delicious, the beer selection is solid, and everything is served cold and refreshing. Whether you're meeting friends for drinks, enjoying date night, or just looking for a relaxed place to unwind, Chapter One is definitely worth a visit.

Dined in on a Wednesday night and they have Jazz night which was cool to sit in and watch- the band and singer were good! We dined at the bar top and started off with water and a Paloma but the taste nowhere near a decent one. The water had an off metal-like taste, so drinks weren't off to a good start. For my entree, I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf- it was a bit dry but looked nice aesthetically. Maybe just overcooked a bit. My bf enjoyed his burger, that came along with duck fries. We just moved close by so we're willing to try again, possibly for their happy hour or during brunch.

We came here on a late sunday afternoon with my family (2 adults and 2 kids) and was sat immediately. We ordered from the brunch menu and OC restaurant week. The kids split the chicken and waffles, the adults got the breakfast burger and open faced sandwich and also bottomless mimosas. Service was attentive and decorations in the place was cute.

Came here with a group. They had live music playing on a Wednesday night. We were seated in the private room which has a cool speakeasy vibe. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Our water glasses were filled promotly. I ordered a cocktail and pepperoni flatbread. Cocktail- This was a recommendation from the server. I wanted sweet and fruity and this delivered! It had a blend of citrus flavors with cucumber which was refreshing. Pepperoni Flatbread- The dough is soft with a crisp edge. Pepperoni was plentiful and the cheese was nice and gooey. Pretty generous portion too. Great place for dinner, especially with a group.

First time here and we'd for sure go back! If I could rate it more specifically for this visit it would be a 4.5. The food and atmosphere were solid. Staff were super nice and food came out fresh and hot. The vanilla bread pudding was a stand out as were the shrimp tacos and the Side Chick sandwich. If you are going on a match day for The Arsenal, just know it's going to be crowded and a lot of fun! ... especially with this year's squad! Let's Go Gooners! North London Forever!

    Delicious Empanadas and Flautas!

My daughter owns a wonderful local pet grooming shop Bubble Up Dog Wash and we were celebrating the shops 2nd Christmas holiday, as we did last year's first, and we were not disappointed. The food is delicious, the ambiance is very casual and comfortable, and the service is terrific! There wasn't a moment where we were looking for someone or something that we weren't accommodated with right away. All to say if ever they start having comedy night, as they had in previous times, or any other events, this would be the local place to attend. Highly recommend to try Chapter One when you've got the time.

I got to give this place a try, went to celebrate my sister in laws bday. We had reservations for brunch and staff was super nice and loved that they did accommodations for our large group. Now for the food wow! We all pretty much had different dishes and I know everyone loved their food, I went with the chilaquiles w/ chicken and my kids went with breakfast burger and the pancake and cream cheese. Kids loved their food specially those thin fries. I had an amazing experience. Will definitely go back.

It is located in downtown Santa Ana. Outside looks cool and feel like a historic building. Inside looks good and had a huge bar. Parking will be metered parking on the street or a parking structure across the street. We were here because of the Restaurant week. We had the pulled pork slicer with duck fat fries and the grilled shrimp taco. The duck fat fries had a unique flavor. The vegetables in the grilled shrimp taco is pickled and sweet. Attentive service.

The food was so amazing! We haven't been here in a while because the quality of the food was not great. They've made some amazing improvements! We went for a brunch and both had the steak and potatoes. The hollandaise sauce was amazing, and it wasn't overwhelming. Next time I'll ask for an additional side of the hollandaise. The potatoes were beautifully seasoned with lots of spices. I cleaned my plate, it was so good!! We'll be coming back more often. Our waiter was so busy but regardless, attentive. Enjoyed that lots of natural light came in from the windows. Again the food was so good! We bought the back a round of beers.

Nice and cozy place to dine on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Easy parking on streets with pay. Service is friendly and attentive and fast service too. The foods are good, nothing special but nicely prepared.

Ended up at "Chapter One: the modern local" after eating dinner around the corner at Lola Gaspar. This was a random discovery while exploring the area, but upon further inspection, it appears as though this might be the most reviewed restaurant on Yelp in all of Santa Ana. Pretty cool stuff! We were actually drawn in by their live music. While we didn't order any food, we very much enjoyed grabbing a beer here. The menu had a lot of great options to choose from. Service was impeccable. I definitely want to come back sometime for a proper meal.

We split the sandwich, so good portions! So yummy! chimichurri (don't think I spelled right) was perfect addition to steak sandwich!
    Nikki T.

Great service, great food. Cool Ambiance. Tried this place with some friends yesterday and happy we did! The steak sandwich was yummy and the cheese curds were amazing! Our server was great too! Only wish we had tried cocktails, the Sangria looked amazing! We will be back!

This Royale with Cheese would have Jules and Vincent on the floor in a food coma. It is just the best burger ever.

It was well balanced and the best dish of the night. The scrambled egg agnolotti was delicious as well and was paired with a savory slightly sour sauce what helped with the heaviness. The bad: We were recommended the house made focaccia to dip into the steak sauce but it was served 15 minutes before the steak came out so was cold by the time we needed it. The biggest disappointment of the night was the $29 tuna crudo. We should have taken the description by face value: tuna, tomato water, vanilla nori oil (we thought this might be the flavor but we were wrong. It was just oil), passion fruit. It quite literally tasted like oily tuna in plain water with passion fruit seeds floating around. The passion fruit overwhelmed the flavor profile. There was so little tuna for the steep price (like 3 sashimi pieces chopped up). It wasn't even a high quality cut. Even if it wasn't, the flavor of the tuna was somehow completed sapped - leaving just the texture. The overall pricing for the menu was very steep with small portion sizes but at least the other plates we had actually tasted good. We also appreciated the complimentary dessert that was given for my fiancés bday. The service was great as well. Looking at previous reviews, it seems that the experimental dishes are either a hit or miss

We took advantage of the Friends and Family menu they provide on Mondays Only from 5:00 to closing. We sat at the beautiful bar and were watched over by Jacob. The wife had some special non-alcoholic drink that was very pretty and tasted great. I went with the VACA Tonic, an icy concoction made with gin. It was super refreshing and a nice way to start. This menu has selected tapas items that range in price from $8 to $19. We ordered the Pan Con Tomate ($8) which comes with sliced toasted bread slices, tomato pulp, a delicious olive oil and a side of sea salt. You take a piece of toast, squirt some of the olive oil on top, then pour on the tomato pulp. Light, tasty and delicious. Next up, the Patatas Bravas ($9). Perfectly roasted spicy potato cubes, slathered with tomato sauce and a garlic aioli. WOW! So simple yet so good. I licked the plate clean. Next up, the Bikini Sandwich ($9). Two small perfectly toasted cheesy sandwich wedges that have Iberico ham, manchego cheese and a hint of truffles. It was really delicious and the special ham was the star of the show. These are great starting items, yet surprisingly filling. I couldn't stop there though and wanted to order some of their famous paella. I decided on the Paella De Carne ($53). This is a meat paella with pork belly, chorizo, blood sausage, duck confit (a leg & thigh), beef cheek, with bomba rice and a garlic aioli. You have to wait about 20 minutes for them to make it but it's worth the wait. It was perfectly cooked and awash in flavor. The special paella pan they prepare the dish in looked well seasoned and I wished I could have taken it home. The menu is extensive with lots of choices to accommodate any palate. The restaurant is beautiful and has a front and back patio seating. If you have a choice, sit on the back patio. There is valet parking for $12, but there is a parking structure right across the street that provides easy access and is free with validation.

My friend and I happened to be in the area and came across a TikTok showing the food at VOX…read moreKitchen, and we immediately said, "Okay, we HAVE to try this place." And I am SO glad we did because everything about our experience was seriously a 10/10! From the moment we walked in, the customer service was amazing. The gentleman at the front greeted us and escorted us to our table, and right away we felt welcomed and comfortable. Our server, Quang, was absolutely the sweetest! He was so friendly, outgoing, attentive, and helpful, especially when it came to giving us recommendations since it was our first time there. He had such a positive energy and really made our experience even better. And the FOOD!!! If I could give it 1,000/10, I seriously would. We tried the Ube Cloud, Vietnamese Iced Coffee, Garlic Parmesan Fries, Spicy Shrimp Wontons, Corn Ribs, Garlic Butter Prawns, and Filet Garlic Noodles, and honestly, there wasn't ONE thing we didn't enjoy. Everything was full of flavor and absolutely delicious. But what really stood out to us was that it wasn't just the food -- it was the entire experience. The staff, the atmosphere, the music, and just the overall vibe made us feel so comfortable and welcomed. The music they were playing was amazing too! My friend and I were enjoying ourselves, eating good food, listening to good music, and just having such a great time. The whole place honestly had such a warm, homey feeling to it. When we were leaving, the gentleman who had greeted and seated us earlier ended up having a whole conversation with my friend and me. He was so sweet and personable! He mentioned that they may be opening a location in Culver City, and I told him I really hope they do because that would be much closer to home for me. I was even joking with him that if they open one, they need to bring the whole staff from this location over there too because everyone here was THAT amazing. At the same time, even if there ends up being a location closer to me, I would honestly still make the drive back to this one. When you visit somewhere for the first time and have such a great experience, that location becomes special. You can visit the same restaurant somewhere else, but the people, atmosphere, and experience aren't necessarily going to feel the same. This location definitely left that kind of impression on us. I really hope this review reaches management because the staff here deserves the recognition. Everyone we interacted with was wonderful, and Quang especially took such great care of us. This was our first time at VOX Kitchen, but it DEFINITELY won't be our last. We're already talking about coming back and bringing our family and more of our friends so we can all enjoy it together. 10/10 food. 10/10 service. 10/10 atmosphere. 10/10 experience. You guys definitely gained some returning customers!

I didn't know fusion food could taste so good! Today I learned that Chifa is Cantonese Peruvian…read morefood, and I honestly love it so much! Saltado fries with picanha: fries were deliciously fried so that it's crispy but doesn't get soft in the saltado sauce. The picanha was super tender and juicy! Vox pear salad: a refreshing starter with a healthy bed of arugula on top of burrata and pear. The balsamic glaze really pulled it together! Corn ribs: just finger licking delicious Chifa fried rice with filet mignon: fried rice was solid but didn't have the most wok hey flavor that I usually like. It was a bit too moist for fried rice. Filet mignon was a bit tough, but flavor was good! Garlic noodles with crispy salmon: yummy salmon and yummy garlic noodles (could be more garlicky). I wonder if these two could have been more cohesive together somehow, but both individual parts were good! My friend told me this restaurant's owner had a few other fusion restaurants in the plaza, so I'll have to try those as well!

I haven't been here in ages but out of all the things I wanted from here... it was their butter…read morecake lol best butter cake I have ever had and the star of the show for me! Perfectly sweet and served with dulce de leche, strawberry syrup with fresh strawberries and vanilla ice cream.. they all go well with the butter cake. Of course that was for dessert.. but to start for lunch, I ordered the house taco selection which comes with 4 tacos (Korean, steak, birria, and cueva tacos). I loved the cheese crusted tortilla on their tacos, and the cueva taco was my fave out of the four! The steak was dry so it was my least fave but the Korean and birria taco were also yummy! Nice way to sample their different tacos! Their guava agua Fresca was a refreshing drink to go with my tacos. My friend ordered their cheese enchiladas in their cream red sauce. She said it was different from any red sauce she has ever had but she said she enjoyed her enchiladas. Service was attentive and friendly. Each server checked in on us regularly. Came here on a Saturday for lunch and it was surprisingly not busy at all like how it used to be. Overall, the food was just like I remembered and I wish I had come back sooner. I'll def be back again to try other things on their menu!
