My colleague and I tried to find a bite to eat before going to the Celtics vs Heat Game (Round 3 of playoffs). We found McGann's Pub on a side alley. FUN! We both ordered the Fisherman's Combo plate ($13.95) - deep fried shrimp, fish, and calamari. The seafood was placed upon a bed of thick cut fries and accompanied by a dollup of fresh cole slaw. Food was good, given that it was bar food. Service was super friendly! The place was crowded and it oozed with a team spirit! What I liked best was that Budwiser was there at the pub running a special - if you drink a Bud, you get a choice of a Tshirt. Guess who walked out wearing a Bud Celtics tshirt, and got a bottle sleeve cooler and a mardigras Celtics Beads?! read more

Here, before a Bruins game, I had the best chicken pot pie in my life. It was huge, and probably should not have been consumed by a single person in a single meal, but was a wonderful, buttery thing with a potato bottom "crust" and golden pastry top. Oh my. My husband equally loved his beef stew and devoured the bread bowl. like all four year olds, our little one loved her chicken fingers, which were golden and tasty with perfect sauce, and didn't have that pre-frozen character. We happily helped her nibble them a bit. Decent beer/cider selection for a small place, and definitely our next hockey meal, if not a meal without hockey. Decent service too (busy as it was before the game). So full!!! I had to drink coffee during my hockey game instead of beer. read more

The atmosphere and staff are not very welcoming here. We stopped to get a drink after the Celtics game the place wasn't too crowded. We sat at the bar and waited a few minutes before the bartender took our order. We ordered basic drinks so thankfully the bartender didn't mess that up, but his attitude was very unwelcoming, almost like he didn't want to be there and clearly didn't want us to be there because that meant he had to work. Stopped in before a concert. Was going to get something small but saw the steak tips on someone else's, table so ordered that. Two at my table ordered rare and i ordered medium rare. My steak was more medium. But the food was good. The mashed potatoes were excellent and very tasty. Atmosphere is very pub like, music playing but could hear ourselves talk, and somewhat close quarters and womens bathroom, while clean, was out of soap for quite awhile. Stumbled into this pub before last nights Celtics game against the Heat. (OT win with diminished rosters on both teams.) Just had some wings and a couple of pints before the game. Okay, it does seem like a solid pub. The service was friendly and efficient. And there were bud light giveaways. Not for me though as I am not a fan of lightly colored water and they must have spotted that. The TVs in the place showed soccer. That's cool, although I was in a basket ball mindset. The disappointing observation was that the crowed was rather uninspiring. I'll definitely try this place again to get a more balance view. I found myself here at McGann's Pub before a Celtics game (my first in fact!) in late February. Figuring I'd find a restaurant relatively close to the TD Garden for a bite before the game, I was happy to come upon this place. Dodging the snowflakes and mountainous piles of snow, I hustled inside. The place was busy, as was to be expected, but was seated shortly after entering. Seated might not be the right word though... The hostess brought us to a table with two stools (almost all the seating looked like this) that were so squished in between the other tables there was only enough room for one of us to pull a stool out and sit. The hostess promptly walked away as my boyfriend and I got on each side of the table, moved it, assessed that there was still not enough room for us to sit, then paused as a very kind gentleman at the next table over got up and moved his own so that we could both fit. Finally! A seat! (thanks random dude!) Watching the time, we put our orders in quickly... then waited, and waited, and waited some more. Just the drinks would have been fine to pass the time, but we waited a while for those as well. In the interim, we were approached no less than three times with other peoples food and drinks. It's like they'd send the server out from behind the bar or kitchen and said "just guess... its one of those 5 tables over there". Eventually I saw our food carried over so I gave a quick wave to be sure he knew where to head with my much coveted order. The food itself was quite good. We shared an order of buffalo wings... they were just spicy enough for my taste and were gone in no time at all! I ordered the Mac & Cheese (as it was a comfort food kind of evening) and enjoyed the blend of baked pasta with carmelized ham. My boyfriend ordered the steak tips and said they were "5 stars" on their own... apparently worth the wait! As my rating entails, this place was "a-ok". The food was great but was balanced off with the disorganization and lack of customer service when it came to seating and the like. Everything is way too close together making it difficult for even the waitstaff to get through certain areas without turning sideways or having their backsides brush up on other tables as they are taking orders. Popped in before a Celtics game last week. I have never been here before so this review is based on only one experience. The staff was friendly (especially the hostess), the service was fast, and the bathrooms were clean. Beers were good and the prices were fair. However, the food (at least what we ordered) was disgusting. We got the sliders and the Irish poutine. The sliders were the most overcooked meat I've ever eaten. The burgers tasted like cardboard. Surprisingly the cheese somehow was not melted. And the buns, which I think were hot dog rolls cut in half, were stale. The poutine was gross. The fries were soggy and the gravy was basically water. I'll definitely go here for drinks, but I this is not a place I'd ever eat at again. read more

The bartender Paul is probably one of the worst bartenders I have ever encountered. I was around the area to watch a Celtics game. Was ordering and Uber by the doorway but of course there was a ton of traffic at the doorway. I decided to walk in! I walk in my ID gets checked and I walk up to the bar and the bartender Paul tells me "I can't serve you Bc ur weird" I was the only person of color in this whole bar. How am I weird? Honestly, I had such a good time at this pub in Boston! My uncle was performing in a band that night, and I had a great time!!! The main reason I had a great time was because of the bouncer. He literally made the night a night to remember. He is truly a good guy. I had an issue in the beginning of the night, and he took care of it. Hadn't he taken care of it the night would have been ruined! But he did, and I will never forget it. His service was great, it just goes to show there really are good people out there! Be sure to double check your bill! Bartender let another party use my tab. Went here for a charity event where it was busy with only 1 bartender. Throughout the night I ordered 3 mixed drinks (2 for me, 1 for a friend), 5 beers (2 with drink tickets, 2 for a friend), and shirley temples for my pregnant wife. Got the tab at the end of the night and it was for: - 7 mixed drinks - 10 beers - 2 sodas Turns out the bartender let another party run my bar tab all night ordering rounds of drinks and then blamed me for it and said "If you find out who did it tell me, because now I'm out $97." No, you're out $97 because you messed up. She was unapologetic and it was a real struggle to get her to fix this. I do not reccomend this place. read more

Stopped in one of our favorite places for a quick bite before the Boston Bruins game. Service was great. Place was packed. Order the chicken pot pie and wife ordered the hamburger. Seriously, how is there only one other review of this amazing bar? McGann's is such a great find, and easily my favorite bar in the North Station area. Especially in the winter month's when I want to go out downtown, but don't want to deal with dressing for a trendy bar or club. I want to walk into someplace warm, quiet, and welcoming. An escape. They are always showing football games, there are sometimes live Irish bands, and they have a wonderful selection of draft beer. Its a far cry from the Harp a few blocks over! Come here on a Friday night to get away from the loud drunk crowds of college student's and young professionals who are only out to see and be seen. Walk in, hang your coat on a peg in the back, pull up a stool to the bar or a bench to a table, grab a pint of black and tan and sit with your friends to chat. Watch some football and enjoy the regulars that stroll in. It will be easy to forget about the world outside. read more

A for awesome! Great burgers and fries! Convenient spot to grab quick food and drinks before going to an event at the The Garden, TD Bank or whatever the heck its called now a days... Me and my boyfriend needed to grab food and had an hour until the Celts game started so we tried the Harp which was ridiculously packed with a 30min wait... We walked out to see this pub and were told there was about a 10min wait.. Not bad at all! So we grabbed a beer then got called for a table and our burgers were quickly brought over to us. Both times that I was there before a Celtics game, they were giving away free crap. The first time it was Bud stuff (including a fun mini foam hand) and this time it was booze taste tests. Can't go wrong with that. Even better, the steak and cheese sandwich was slammin! Seriously, so delicious. The steak fries with curry sauce are also a must have. This place only had 1 bartender on for Game 6 of the NBA Finals, and the kitchen was closed. I felt bad for the bartender about this until I went to the bar and received more attitude than I ever have from a bartender in my life. I understand she was there all alone, but she is still in the service industry. It also looks like from the review below that this is not the first time this has happened at McGanns, so I would suggest avoiding it at all costs. This was my second bar for my Boston Bar Crawl. I put on the Yelp search "Soccer Bars" for the Boston area and this is the second place that came up. I know they're not responsible for what comes up on the searches. B I was trying to find a place where I can watch the Manchester United vs Bolton Wanderers game but all they had was the Scotland vs Italy rugby match. The Guinness over there was very poor in taste, especially for a Irish pub. You should AT LEAST have good Guinness ffs. I got a lot of nasty looks for wearing a Manchester United jersey I'm assuming a lot of regulars there are probably Celtic supporters. read more

All around awful experience. The food was pathetic. I ordered the fish and chips and I got 3 bites of fish and a pile of french fries, both clearly were pulled out of a frozen bag about 15 minutes earlier. I could have made equivalent food out of a grocery store aisle for about $1, but instead paid (if memory serves me correctly) about $13. The prices at the restaurant aren't bad (everything in the mid to low teens), but considering how bad the food is, the food should be free. It also took about 20 minutes to get the attention of the server. I ended up ordering my table it's first round of drinks from the bar because I had to wait so long. Once at the bar, the bartenders were busy flirting with a member of the waitstaff (probably our server) so it took another several minutes to get their attention (in a very NOT crowded bar). I've never had worse service at a restaurant in my entire life The only redeeming quality of this bar is the atmosphere. Then again you can find the same atmosphere at several other locations by the Garden and I would recommend you do so. I will not be going to McGann's again. read more

ZERo stars. Bringing a party of 12 to such a small establishment would have been welcomed at most places. Not so here. The pregnant bartender, whom were told is the manager, could not have been more rude or obnoxious. I would HIGHLY reccomend ANYWHERE but McGanns. While the band was mediocre, a friendly staff with good pour skills would have remedied ANY shortcomings. Most especially with this group who were looking to celebrate. The pregnant bartender repeatedly shared her ugly disposition and nasty people skills with not only our group but others. When my son bought a drink seperate from my card, she questioned his lack of tip. NOT only did she not deserve one penny of a tip, our group should have gotten our cover back for having to interact with her. No amount of kindness was acknowledged or reciprocated. Basic customer service skills were not even present. What an incredibly nasty women. She was very giving and shared her foul disposition with other patrons as well. There is a reason why there is no wait at this pub. GO ANYWHERE BUT HERE. ANYWHERE!! When we asked to speak to the manager, it was explained that she was the manager and because she was pregnant is why she is so nasty! Ummmmm,sorry, nope. I consider McGann's to be a hidden gem located a stones throw from the Irish Club scene. I think they actually close a little earlier than some other bars in the area, so that's definitely worth knowing. It's quiet, even on a Saturday night, which I know can be unappealing for some people. I happen to love a bar that's cheap and that my friends and I can essentially take over. The bartenders are quick with a pint, and there's plenty of seating despite the fact it's not that big. I'll be going here again very soon! read more

What do you do when Boston Calling gets rained (thunder-showered) out? Go to McGann's! Well that wasn't the initial intention, but it certainly fit the bill. Not wanting to either A) get rained on or B) go to an overcrowded bar too close to the festival, we walked a little down the street and found McGann's. It was perfect for what we needed. The bar has a laid back vibe with cheap drinks, and we snagged a window seat to watch/wait out the storm. And in hindsight it worked out okay that the festival had a rain break because the bill was much more reasonable than $7 a beer at Boston Calling. Either way, if I'm in the area again and have a thirst I'll know where to stop. read more

Went immediately before a B's game, so the place was a nightmare in terms of crowd. But we all love each other ahead of a game. :) Food is great, the draft beers are poured well (including a fine pint of Guinness) and I don't have much to complain about. I've seen several other reviews below stating the same thing....MIKE is an outstanding bartender. We were from out of state, but he talked with us for quite some time, and was very friendly & polite. Dropped in on a Friday night while waiting for a NIN concert (what up, Trent?) - they played only NIN the entire time. Looks like a decent sports bar. Lots of tables sort of picnic style but nice. Waitress was nice. Decent selection of beer including a Harpoon pumpkin and Blue Moon pumpkin. Got the blue moon pumpkin and steak'n'cheese sandwich w salad side. Beer was really good. The steak and cheese sandwich was big, not super greasy, and good. Not much in the way of peppers or flavor besides the steak, but not bad. This is such a great bar. I loathe doing the Garden neighborhood, which is one large step up from Faneuil Hall (a bunch of rowdy townies that puke all over the place), but McGann's is a nice respite if I am stuck hanging out around here. Awesome live music and reasonably priced booze. And I don't even like live music, but they seem to pick really good bands. Shout out to the Smoking Jackets. P.S. I went there last night to see a band and I was mistreated horribly. The bartenders play favorites and profile customers. They will ignore you if you don't look right or will even try and get you thrown out if you are there to watch a band and drink water even though you pay a door charge. I will never step foot again in this establishment especially considering how many options there are in that area. Stopped in for a quick dinner after the Celtics game and before heading back to the hotel to watch the SuperBowl. Most tables have only stools with no backs. We were able to sit in a corner at a regular table with chairs. Couldn't see the TV for pregame. Our server got our drinks and delivered our food. The sandwiches were actually tasty. Our server evidently went home and I wanted another drink. I went to the bar, but the bus boy said I had to wait for the bartender to return from ? Never got a second drink. Here's the lunch review. Solid place after a C's or B's game too. There's always "space" to hang out even if the bar itself is packed. Back to lunch. GREAT specials, solid food, almost always a good playlist. I think the most expensive thing on the lunch menu (about 15 items) is $8.95 or so. It works for me when I go, but don't come here looking for a salad menu, it's all pub grub. - Burger/fries/beer special for $5 (nuts right?) - Great Chicken Quesadilla w/salad (Surprisingly comes with some presentation too) - Some of the best chicken tenders around, and it's damn tough to finish the plate ($6!) - Damn good looking Steak & Cheese, haven't had it yet though - Only one bartender on during the lunch hours, which some days is a factor. - Bartenders are nice, good people. Mike is a "good talkative" and the blonde w/the accent has a good mix of smile & sass (cute as hell too) - Good seating options. Options @ bar, tables in all kinds of nooks & a tall middle bar-like table with barstools. My only problem with this place is the waste of TV's. I've seen Soap Operas on them (even the pull down big screen). Should always be news or sports. They also never seem to be in tune with sports (besides their affinity for the EPL). We got shut down for a channel change the first day of March Madness. Walked right out. I realize they aren't a sports bar, but no one goes to a bar for silent soap opera time and an IPA. The place looked.... well, Empty, NOBODY inside except for two old fat guys talking at the bar. Once in, these guys tell us "You looking for food? There's no food here. Go over to Porters, they have food"... A business rejected, Business. We wanted to dine at their establishment... That never happened. And it never will. Porter's was okay, small, but okay... This is a great Irish pub!!! I found myself feeling like I could have been in Ireland..if it weren't for the unmistakable Bruins/Celtics/Red Sox shirts donned by anyone and everyone there. What I love about this place is that it's pretty authentic, unassuming, and it pours a pretty great pint of Harp. Oh, and the characters there can't be beat. Anyone who gives this place great reviews MUST be wasted. my sister and I arrived and asked the host how long the wait would be for a table for two- he (Fernando) proceeded to tell us that he had NO IDEA how long the wait would be! And then continued by giving me the absolute rudest look when i asked him to simply estimate. I have been a hostess before and THE MAIN part of the job is providing wait times for customers. As we saw at least three tables, i asked an approaching waitress if we may sit at one of the open tables, she VERY rudely responded that we needed to ask the host-WELL DUH! Already tried that and was looked at like we had ten heads. Finally, after the third time asking for one of the open tables, we were seated. Our waitress, Emily, was very sweet and almost made us forget about the extremely incompetent host until we were using the restroom before leaving and she proceeded to bust in and accuse us of stealing the merchant copy of the receipt!! After looking through all of our belongings, she discovered the merchant copy after realizing that SHE dropped it! A completely honest mistake, and she was absolutely the most accommodating staff member during our short visit. While we were looking for the merchant copy of the receipt we were approached by the manager (?) an extremely RUDE woman, whose name I unfortunately did not catch- I have gone here several times before concerts and I will say that I will NEVER EVER return and I will make sure none of my friends or even strangers will give money to this completely despicable establishment- if you can even call it that. read more
