I found McGrew studios three years ago while trying to find a tailor who would tackle a rather unique project. We were looking for someone who would take a set of Marine Corps dress blues and adapt them to fit a bulldog to work in the capacity of a Mascot. We had seen the classic cape as we call it with the simple around the neck and material draped over the back of the dog. But we were looking for more of the look of the original blues more on the lines of Sgt. Perkins. Being that Chest's wardrobe had vanished from existence we would be starting from scratch. We had talked to numerous tailors now who would even humor the idea it was well beneath them. Jen from the minute we found her was excited about the project and with all the hurdles to take on step up to the task as we say in fine Marine Corps fashion. After numerous sittings and fittings and unique alignment issue adapting to a bulldogs frame we ended up with an outstanding uniform which has been a hit since our first appearance three years ago. The blues have stood up during numerous appearances and unique situations and now finally our Bulldog has outgrown them and is getting tight I the jacket. We also have additional supporting uniforms of Charlie's better known as the DI, and Both Marine Fatigues desert and woodland patterns. We will be making a new larger uniform for the upcoming season and his existing uniform will be retired and turned over to one of Gunny's son. He will be handling the same tasks for the southern region of the state. McGrew Studios saved my backside! I have been drooling over the pieces I had the pleasure of seeing on a movie set, these magnificent leather works of art, created by McGrew Studios. Just walking into her studio is a visual treat akin to a rich decadent chocolate truffle. :D I am a local artist, that does custom boots and other costume pieces and I found myself in a bind of an emergency on a commission that I was working on (costume boots), and the owner of McGrew's Studios welcomed me in, last min, around her busy schedule, helped me find the materials that would match perfectly the piece I was needing, and then put it all together for me. I first found McGrew Studios at a music festival about 6 years ago. I found Jennifer McGrew delightful to talk to, and a master at costuming. I made a down payment on a custom corset, and was amazed at the service I received during the fitting process. I was given complete control over the style, look, fabric, and clasps of my custom corset. It fits me perfectly so that breathing, sitting, and dancing are no problem, unlike cheap corsets made according to a size chart and not to my body. They also taught my husband the proper way to tie the corset so that he didn't just have a mess of strings to figure out on his own. My corset has been worn many, many times and is still in exquisite condition 6 years later. I am currently in the process of having two more corsets being made by McGrew Studios now, and still intend to go back again. As part of the wedding gift to my daughter, I contracted with Jen McGrew to built the dress that my daughter envisioned. After many visits, revisions and adjustments 'here and there', my daughter attended her wedding as a goddess, dressed in perfect finery...(and ALL of this at the agreed upon price). I have subsequently had two suits altered and a few sports jackets as well. Without a doubt, these guys are professionals in every sense of the word. I did take a moment to read some of the reviews here and everyone, with only one exception, supports my experience with McGrews... in defense of my 'tailor', I would suggest that some people are just unhappy and probably should seek professional help... I hired Jen for two big projects. The first was an elaborate goddess costume which was designed, conceived, and built by McGrew Studios. The second was a ballgown for a formal event in Europe. Jen shopped with me to find the basic dress, fabric, foundation garments, make-up, and shoes. She also consulted on highlights and jewelry. She remade the dress to fit me exactly, adding shoulder straps, shortening it, and adding darts to the bodice; she also designed and built a beautiful multi-colored evening shawl. The final effect of both the goddess costume and the ballgown was fantastic. The clothes were unique, fit perfectly, and will last forever. They were also designed to expand or contract some so that the fit would always be perfect. This is not an inexpensive experience, but custom-fitted and -designed clothing is what I wanted, and what I got. read more

In 2009 I had a corset made by the studio. Selected my own fabric, measured to my size, and the style I wanted. When it was finished, I noticed a discrepency in the side curves, I sent it back and the issue was promptly rectified. I recommended them, and have since seen nothing short of excellence come out of the studio. They've expanded from corsets and slipcovers and also make outstanding costumes for all occasions, do alterations, tailor made creations, set design, bridal, set design, AND have a lot of steampunk connections and items. Over the years McGrews has raised the bar, produced outstanding theatrical and custom clothing, and strived for nothing less than the absolute best. Jen McGrew is one of the nicest people you'll meet in the Salt Lake fashion community. Especially in an industry where people can be so superficial and egotistical I found her to be very accommodating and down to earth.She really cares about her customers happiness and about our community as well. The costumes and corsets displayed at the shop are some of the best examples I've seen. Calling a tailor and explaining I wanted a Pilgrim costume, Jennifer was recommended to me. This is FIRST custom ordered costume I've ordered, so didn't know what to expect. Made my wedding day perfect by creating my dream dress! I was found by McGrew studio some about 6 years ago and have had a number of corsets built by them. They are amazing. Last year, when I was planning my wedding, I searched high and low for the perfect dress. Sadly, the perfect dress only existed in my mind.
