Place seems to always be poppin. Venue was clean and staff was very nice. Price is average like every other bowling place.

Runs about 2.50$ a game for one person, 3$ for shoe rental but if you bring your own shoes thats a plus. Sometimes rent the lanes to the teenagers and they mess around on the lane taking photos, cameras flashing all the time. thats the only down side at this bowling alley In house bar, pro shop and pizza place. all run by other people you gotta check them out yourselves. I know at the pizza place you need a $5 dollar order to use your ATM card. read more

My review is regarding the bar staff and the $10 sampler platter and the rude chick that took our order. Please be aware they DO NOT accept cards in the bar area. I was told cash only and to go to the front...well i used their funky atm machine that charged me a few bucks. I came back to pay for our pitcher of beer and our food then the rude waitress told me something like "I told you to go to the front, you wouldn't have to pay"...then she rolled her eyes. Oh and the sampler was basically a little basket of fries mixed with a few fried zucchini, a cheese stick or two, some horrible frozen chicken nugget type things and 1 fried mushroom! Came here with my daughter to go bowling on a sunday afternoon. the place was huge. a lot of space. poor lighting inside. very dim. didn't try their food. just went bowling. Price was expensive. for my daugther and i, it was $17 for 2 games. guess, i was just expecting it to be less than that. Had a hard time finding bowling balls for my daugther, who is only 5 years old. place was disorganized as for the balls. overall experience was ok. had better in alameda and castro valley. read more

They have leagues from young to mature- and even include special needs in their offerings. That makes my heart swell! They rent lanes, of course, and shoes, as well as sell balls and shoes. My family has purchased shoes and balks from basic to pro- and their facilities and can help you purchase or adjust drills on balls.They are conveniently located in a major street in town. I haven't been here in YEARS...probably about 8. We went last night with a group of friends and had a blast! Pros: Good atmosphere, fairly clean, nice staff, and a generous bar!! Had a blast here today. McHenry Bowl was clean , staff was very friendly & helpful. Food was ok. I thought it was a great deal to bowl. Kids said they've had the best time in a long time. I felt like I was a kid again. We ordered from the snack bar. Cheese bread , pizza, hot dogs, & nachos. Nachos were gross, wouldn't order those again. Chips tasted stale cheese was nasty. Our bowling experience was ok, the bumpers kept staying up, even for a player not using them. The arcade is horrible, took so many tokens from us. The air hockey marching had no puck. They refunded only 4 tokens they said you play at your own risk after that. They need an upgrade very badly or at least an attendant to monitor it. Also, there is a sign that says no smoking 25 ft from the door but many people went just right out the sliding the door to smoke and it came right into the arcade and first few lanes. No music in the daytime, not a family friendly, fun place to bowl. read more

Place sucks. Go to Yosemite bowl! I went outside to smoke a cigarette during a company party, while I was out there I had to grab my prescription medicine from my car since the party was later in the evening... when I went out to my car the Asian bouncer (Chan) told me I'm not allowed to get my prescription!!! Told me to "smoke my cigarette against the wall" and that I'm not allowed to go to my vehicle. Then the bouncer (Chan, again) tried to kicked me out when i told my coworkers they wouldn't let me take my prescription meds!!!! Is it just me or is this unreal? Fuck this place, it's 2017 almost going into 2018. I feel like I have free range over my body to put my legal prescriptions into my body. The fact that your security guard is harassing me over my medicinal reasoning is prejudice, offensive, and all around ignorant! read more

My work started up a bowling league so I was excited to come to mchenry bowl and have fun with co-workers. There were many other bowling leagues there also so parking was a pain. There were some teenagers there who were throwing the ball very loudly and scaring the poor elderly people in the next lane. The arcade area was filled with more teenagers and there was a scent cloud of axe cologne and clearasil. The game controllers were nice and shiny. Too bad the shine came from the pizza grease on the teenagers' fingers. I don't think I'll be coming back here. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with this place. I love this place because I love bowling, and these lanes are nice to me. (Typical house shot, but I feel they only oil the lanes once a day. Super oily in the mornings/super dry at night.) I love there quarter specials, I mean who doesn't love three hours of bowling for less than $10 a night. I don't have much to say about the food, I usually don't eat when I'm there unless someones offers to buy a whole pizza for the group haha. The staff is very friendly, and almost always greet me with a smile. Now the hate. Sometimes the place just gets too crowded for security/staff to take care of the lanes/bowlers. I've often waited for 10 minutes after telling someone at the desk that my rake is stuck, for the lanes to get working again. Also, they don't stick to their rules sometimes. I've have friends kicked out for throwing two balls down the lane, and then witnessed groups of kids throwing 3-4 balls down a lane FOR THE WHOLE NIGHT with no repercussions. read more

I am new to the Modesto area one of my sons wanted to go bowling as a reward that I had owed him. Not knowing where anything is because we have only lived in Modesto for almost 4 months, I turned to YELP for assistance. I was a bit unsure to coming here because of some of the reviews I read but I decided to anyways because it was very close to my house and I'm a believe it when I see it type of guy. We decided to go on a Sunday because it was the least expensive time to go at and I figured if it was bad as the reviews lead me to believe then at least I wouldn't be out a lot of money. LoL. My son and I played 3 games with rental shoes came out to 20 bucks. They girl at the front counter was really nice and showed us where to get the smaller balls for my son. I was having trouble with getting our names setup so I called for help and another girl came up and helped us out real fast. After we got setup we started our games and had a great time. After we were done we returned back to turn in the rental shoes. I asked if it was possible to print out our scores and the girl quickly did so. The were really nice and polite. I would definitely go back again with the rest of my family. I am even considering having a birthday party there. I would definitely recommended this place to everyone I know. I give it a 3 star because the mixed drinks were very good and I had fun. But first we had to wait in a 40 min line aparently it was 25¢Tuesday almost every thing was 25¢ but when we got to the window to pay and get our wrist band we were rudly greeted by some old lady my boyfriend was going to pay with his card so she said 'you need to take that somewhere else i'm doing cash only' and then she says 'next' with out even knowing if we had cash on us so I threw my purse on the counter and told her 'excuse me we do have cash' lol (I don't think she liked me very much). So after all that we got Lane 50 well it was good until all the balls got stuck and our lane kept freezing so we went back a hand full of times to get help. We usually only go there once a year for our company family Christmas party. It works out pretty good. They cater the pizza for the party and it comes out SLOW! We spent most of the time getting the kids to quit whining because they were hungry. However, if you just go to bowl, they have a good quality alley and balls of all sizes. My daughter likes to use the ramp thing to aim and roll the ball down the lane. They also have gutter guards that can raise and lower as set up for each player. read more

Lanes are in need of repair, the staff is rude, prices are high, the lightest ball they have for kids is 8 lbs & the ramp is only for disabled, so 3 year olds will roll ball slow & staff will yell at you as you use unconventional methods to move the ball to the end. It's a nice establishment and they have tons of lanes. They have pretty good food, the pizza is a must! It lacks a certain "it" factor to me, not sure why. I would generally describe customer service as "less then personable". You have to be a squeaky wheel to get some grease here or they won't notice you. The remodel on the interior is very nice and they've stepped it up quite a bit but the exterior leads me to wonder. I thought it was another new grocery store when I first saw it on the outside. Something about the hot pink and hot blue lettering doesn't exactly jive. On $1.50 Wednesday nights, the lanes are very dry and it can be hard to get a good roll. But being that it's cheapskate night, I guess for lack of better term, then they could care less about keeping the lanes oiled. The music they play can be downright brutal. Hopefully they've improved on this. Imagine about 20 MP3s. On repeat. For three hours. "Save a horse, ride a cowboy", indeed. read more

Used to bowl here all the time especially on Sundays and Tuesdays for the special bowling prices! Came with my husband and 8 year old son tonight as well as my pregnant sister in law and brother in law and there son... Well let's just say we had a very bad experience! The Manager was extremely rude! Had no smile and treated us like garbage like he was better then everyone else because there was a little misunderstanding over my husband's expired id. Mind you my husband is 33 years old but that's not the point, the point is that the manager had extremely bad customer service skills and all around was a jerk sorry to say. Then after I try and tell the Manager it's not so much about the id but more of the customer service he got pissed off and threatened to call the cops???? And the security guard who's named "Mac" wouldn't stay out of our conversation, and I told him nicely that im not speaking to him I'm speaking to the manager and then I get Called rude???? These wanna be robo cops are seriously a joke and they need to be either taught manners and how to treat people and smile and greet all customers with respect and treat them how they want to be treated or get a new Job. Needless to say we all walked out and it's sad because my sister in law and brother in law and son were there before us had gotten the same treatment and we're treated poorly. Well my other family feel we were also mistreated so they walked out as well after paying for there games and tokens. Very sad... I hope the owner/boss can find new employees cause until then we will never be back to this place again and I'll be sure to warn my friends and family. read more

I will never come here again. I have been coming here for 10+ years, went to go midnight bowling waited 4 hours, got to front said 3 and the guy says arnt there 6 and I said we only want to do three and three we arnt together just know each other, he responds I'll put 6 and they will give you 2 lanes up there. We get to front and they say we are busy I'm not giving you two lanes. It's cheaper to go elsewhere and customers are treated better elsewhere. We spent $78 to get treated like crap so they can make more money, never again, we'll take our business elsewhere from now on. read more

Went there with a group of 7 and requested a lane to bowl. The manager informed me that it would be about an hr wait. We waited and 3 hours later we finally were able to get a lane. The manager kept informing us that 10 more minutes he would get back to us but never did. He was also very rude and gave attitude to all of his potential customers and seemed like he generally did not care. The place was dirty and didn't seem well run. I'm concerned with their in house security. They are not trained professionals. I wouldn't give 1 star except I had to in order to post. All security on duty yelling obscenities and making jokes about this young boys appearance. The manager of these so called security guys employed by Mchenry bowl made excuses an lied for them to modesto police when questioned why the security shoved and stepped on the young boys feet while pushing him off the property. It's a huge liability for this facility if they continue to allow such actions by their employees. read more

I came here on a double date and I liked everything from the begining, then all of a sudden the screen starts tweeking out! we tried asking for help and they did help, but it kept on happening . so we just gave up and kept bowling. without a score thing. we did everything manuel. The bowling lane was glitchy and messed up the pins a lot. Bowling was overpriced. Air hockey in the arcade was missing the puck. Way too many people smoking around the entrance. Some of the shoes are too worn out and slippery. The only good things here are the food and most of the workers. I do like the bowling at 12am on Saturdays though.
