McKay's Automotive to the rescue! Brought in my Ford Edge after having some A/C and engine cooling problems. Added in an oil change since the vehicle would be on the lift/rack. Alan was extremely helpful and patient after diagnosing the issue and presenting options and costs for the fix. I was provided a thorough report with pictures, and frankly.. I had no questions. There were issues with the cooling fan (and other parts) and the A/C components were failing (adding dye into the system to find leaks, etc). Pricing, timelines, and warranties were all laid out upfront - no surprises, no runaround. If you want a shop that's fair and honest with real diagnostics, McKay's is it. Ask for Alan. Under Qualified for services they attempt to offer. Inspections Rotations Oil Change is as far as I would go. I had them do the shocks which they told me was the reason for the noise out of the rear of the car. I agreed as I am not a Automotive expert and told them fine if that was the issue. Well I cannot belive that they felt it was fixed. The noise was still there the same. I took the tech for a ride he heard the noise how he did not before saying it was fixed. He took what I assume was the lead Tech for a ride and when they got back they begain to look futher and I explained nothing was any different at which point they professed that the Shocks were bad anyway. So they put another new pair of shocks on to my point a new pair and a 3 year old pair had exactly the same fault hard to believe? Another ride and same issue It took 4+ techs rocking the Car then they got the Manager out who helped the lead Tech in looking further. At that point I was told my rear axel bushing were bad and Appx $1200.00 to fix my issue. No faith at this point I said no. I checked into pricing further and got prices of $725.to $850. not $1200.00. I then took my car in to a trusted shop and they found lose axel Bolts tightened them at No Cost and problem solved. McKay was not qualified or was trying to be dishonest going to leave that open but my advice is look else where for your Automotive repairs in my opinion the proved there incompetence in there knowledge and skill in there job is entry level knowledge skill at best and not that in the diagnostic skill. Highly recommended! After Magnolia refused to work on my vehicle due to it's age, I took my truck here, and they have it running like new. I have had them do several major repairs--complete air conditioning and water pump. These guys are great for my older vehicle. They have an encyclopedic knowledge of domestic cars and their common problems. I believe they are both honest and fairly priced. They really know what they are doing. I have tried Christian Brothers and Rooster Ridge, and McKay's is a far better option for me. Sign up for their e-mail coupons, as most things are 20% off, and regular oil changes can be had for 29.95. They misdiagnosed so many issues with my vehicle. They just don't seem capable of getting anything diagnosed correctly or repared right the first time. In the end, I spent thousands in repairs there that did not fix the problem with my vehicle. I even had made a suggestion regarding what I thought was wrong with it. My suggestion was ignored and it turns out if they had replaced that single $300 part my car would have run fine. To top it all off, I also received a list of things they wanted to repair on my vehicle. Some I knew were in good order like the recently replaced brake pads. Although they seem like nice, knowledgeable folks, I cannot in good consciousness take my vehicle there ever again or recommend them to anyone else. read more

Took my 2014 Chevy Silverado in there to get an inspection and 2 get a second opinion on why the ac would not work: they checked the ac and said that the last person who fixed it ghetto rigged,l it and the expansion ring bolts needs to be replaced And charged us 900+ dollars. I told them that was just temporary because we have already done that we just haven't replaced the bolt yet because the whole dashboard needs to be taken apart, but they didn't believe me I called them and told them that has nothing to do with it. The last guy that looked at it told me it 24 hour job? He told me whole dashboard needs to come out and that's what I was told the gentleman that I spoke to on the phone once more at McCay's automotive . They told me that they guarantee their work and once the bolt comes in, everything should work and guess what? Once they got the ball and we brought the truck back in it didn't work. they want another $2000 because it's a 24 hour job to take the dashboard apart so the $900 plus job that they did didn't work and they didn't guarantee their work. I'm upset because the work they did we did twice and paid twice for and they swore up and down that's what was wrong whenever I told them that that was just temporary. They wasted my time money and business pay because this is a company truck. read more

I've been a customer of McKay's Automotive starting at their store off of Louetta Rd over 20 years ago. Now I go over to their store in the Woodlands area off of Sawdust. Through out the many different vehicles I've own they have taken great care in each vehicle. They have been very honest and forthcoming of what my vehicles needed to repair them. They have some great maintenance programs when it comes to there oil changes, flushing programs not to mention when I should do preventive repairs to keep me on the road. I've price shopped them many times and sometimes they have been higher than other places but the service I've received has always been upstanding. Very responsibly priced and no high pressure sales about additional problems my car has that need to be fixed at a later date. The original auto workshop I went to for help, wasn't so friendly so I went to try Mckay's Auto workshop and after much negotiations, we agreed on a price to fix my car, when later I was called to know more findings and how much it would cost me, I told them to go ahead and fix it but the one that blew my mind up about this workshop is their honesty. The initial price to fix the car was a lot for me at the time but when I got there to pick up my car, they told me that the price of one of the materials used to fix the car dropped and I wasn't charged for it but I know some workshops or people will keep the difference but this shop never did. The even went beyond ny expectations to clean up something else from the windshield that I had been trying to remove. So I highly recommend this Mckay Workshop to the general public. I had brought my car in a few times and honestly really liked these guys, until today I brought my car back in to see if they would be able to fix the tail housing leak I had on my car. I understand they are busy and I understand you are frustrated, but don't talk to me like I don't understand or make me feel stupid for asking if they would be able to fix it. I would have had no problem leaving it there for a few days but the representative blew me off and talked down to me the entire time I was there. We brought my wife's 2008 Sebring convertible here for the top not working after having the Chrysler dealership tell me it was this $1,500.00 part and possibly a $2,000.00 part if the first didn't fix it. And I'd be out the first repair either way. McKay's looked at it and said it's a $300.00 motor, all told with labor about $700.00 bucks. That was 3 years ago and the car still works great. Took my truck here to get a free check engine light done. The only reason I came it was because I was in a flyer that said FREE check engine light. Came back three hours later to get something out of my truck. And was told that they had already done a diagnostics on my vehicle after checking the engine and repairs would be about $1900 Then told $2300 and that bumped up to $2600. I told the guy I only came in for a free check due to the Fact I was short on funds so I was trying to spend that on the truck but I would come back to do the repairs when I could. was told I could pick up my vehicle at any time if that was the case. I went by the following morning to pick up my truck was given my keys and left the lot. within three minutes I was given a call by David and was told I need to bring back my truck or he was going to call the cops on me ? confused at this comment I tried asking him on what grounds are you trying to call the cops on me but before I can get the whole sentence out he hung up on me. frustrated I called back trying to figure out what the cause of his comment was when he answered he told me that I needed to pay for the services that were done Then hung up on me again ?! I immediately turned around and brought the truck back . I confronted Daivid and asked him what was the reasoning for him threatening me. he told me that the diagnostics that they had performed (without my consent) needed to be paid. I paid the bill even though I was wrongly charged because for no reason do I want cops called over something minuscule. and then I asked Daivid what did you fine on my vehicle his response was he deleted me as a system and could not tell me what was up with my vehicle. he had a single sheet of paper that was sold out by the mechanic I tried to look it over and take it with me since I'm being charge for the service I should at least have the information. He snatched it out of my hand and told me that was his. Nice to know that I'm paying for a service and I still don't know what was wrong with my vehicle. I have been trying to contact the owner to get this resolved. At this moment I would not recommend a business that is going to treat a customer like this. read more

Earlier today i took my work van to get my a/c checked as there is an advertisement for free brake and a/c checks. I clear as day told a male worker, "Can you please check the a/c?" where he then proceeds to give me a disgusted look and makes it seem as he does not understand me because i have a slight accent. He then brings out what i believe is a Spanish speaking employee to translate just my question. So i go wait for literal HOURS for said man to just even take a look at my vehicle, then i begin to see than one car and another and other cars by white men pull up to get services and they proceed to get attended before mine.. i had to take my child out to eat because he was getting hungry from the extensive wait when i then tell him something along the lines that "ill be back ill just go get some food for my kid" he understood just fine. When i got back my services were just getting started. What really bugged me is that he assumed i would not understand his english so as he tried to explain the problem with my vehicle he typed everything into google translate even though i understood his english and the english in his translator. And, on top of everything i got charged over $70 for the "Free" a/c check. If you're of color or dont speak english to this mans given standard, dont even bother coming. Stopped here to get an oil change ($19.99 advertised special) and a state inspection. Guy at the counter was nice while he took my information down. He didn't bother to tell me until afterwards that he was going to have to charge $20 to install the headlight I had brought in with me. Seriously, I am giving them about $60 of -very- easy business, and they want to charge by the hour to install a headlight? I can do better, and so can you. I guess this place is fine for people in the vintage who are used to overpaying for things, but not for me. Bonus tip: sitting on their sales desk was a print-out of some corporate email detailing how they should force such-and-such down the customer's throat by creating a sense of urgency about it (air filters, maybe?). Watch out for these guys. They might do good work, but they certainly are -not- a good deal. read more

Never again will I choose to bring my business here. About a year ago my pregnant wife and I had the oil changed on our silver Toyota Camry. My wife swore by them, until they gave us a false quote for 2700$. They gave us the good advice to spend this on replacing both front cv axels. After seeing the price I took the car to a friend/mechanic and had a real quote. A year later when the left one was starting to show signs of wear, Midas took great care of us for 650$ for both. Went in yesterday to replace a stripped oil plug and a high mileage oil change. The service manager had me in and out very quickly. He explained the process for rethreading my oil pan and saved me a ton of money by not replacing my pan (which I thought was my only option). I went in to get my brakes checked and replaced after getting a quote. After getting there, I was told that all my brakes needed to be completely replaced and it was over twice the price. They were very kind and welcoming while I waited, HOWEVER, the 1 star is for both the exorbitant price I was charged (something told me to just walk away then) and also because I had to go back because I still heard braking and grinding. They told me it was just loose, but one month later, it's still making the same noises. Either they didn't replace anything at all or did a haphazard job because the same issues are still there. Also, I know it's not an issue with my actual car due to other checks I've had done. I'm very disappointed. I found this place because McKay's bought out the previous owners who were super honest and reliable. I took a chance because of the convenience, but I definitely would not be returning and suggest that unless you're firm and knowledgeable, you don't do so as well. read more

The person taking my information kept on receiving calls of mad customers while trying to talk to me also. It was obvious that the customer service was not there. The estimate was $400 more expensive then the mechanic I usually take my car to. So I decided not to have it fixed there. Fifteen days later I received a charge for a service I did not get. When I asked him what the charge was all about he couldn't answer. He said he would need to talk to the management about it. The next day I found out that he is the manager. Is he the manager or not? Why did I get billed for something they didn't do? Why couldn't I get a straight answer about why I got billed? Something is "fishy." I would just suggest to stay away. read more

My POS vehicle broke down in the middle of the night near this shop. I rolled it there and they checked it out as soon as they opened. The car wasn't worth fixing (in my opinion), so they kept the car at their garage for 2 days until I could get to Houston, buy a new one, and have the dealership come out and tow the old one. Had transmission issue while driving down 45 south and pulled into McKays. They did not hesitate to pull my truck into a bay, and get it on a lift to see the issues. Once it was diagnosed they quickly gave me an estimate. Vey fair price on the seal and bearing repairs needed The truck was recently purchased so they encouraged me to call the car lot to see if they will do anything. Going out of their way to be sure I did not get the rough end of a deal. They even let my truck stay in their shop over night until the tow truck came and got it the next day. Each time I go in, I'm more impressed with the service, level of respect, and honesty of this business. They always ask the right questions, give me honest recommendations, and then work with me to decide the right route to take. I've never had to wait to get my car serviced, and they are pleasant and personable each time I'm at the shop. It's so refreshing to receive such great service. Consumer Beware!!! I had my car towed to McKay's automotive. My fuel pump for my Dodge Durango had gone bad and instead of fixing the issue, they just did a quick fix by relaying some wires and then they said it needed a software update. They charged me 850 DOLLARS for this shotty work. The mechanic then tells us to look into recalls as see if we can get a reimbursement. Upon hearing this we turned to the Dodge Dealership. Turns out my car was under recall and McKays should have never tried to fix. They knew it was under recall. The dodge dealership fixed for free and confirmed that McKays work never even fixed the problem. As automotive professionals, we the consumer rely on them to be honest and forthcoming. Please do not make the same mistake we did. We also called and spoke to McKays and explained that they never fixed the problem and they should have never touched my car as the problem was under recall. We asked for our money back and they laughed in our face. Don't make the same mistake we did. BEWARE!!!! read more
