We had McLay services come to our home and complete a routine service on our Carrier heating system and replace the sink pop ups on three bathroom sinks. The service tech, Mike was on time and very friendly. He was extremely careful and respectful while in out home. That was very important to us. He had his shoe covers and mask on while performing service. Overall, Mike did a great job and we'd be happy to have him back. We are thankful to have found a company that delivers what it promises and for a fair price. That's rare these days. I just love this company!!! This is only my second time calling them for service, and I have to say that they continue to provide such amazing service at more than reasonable prices for their time and the work they do! They are now my go to for any needs I have that they offer services for. Their guy Mike was here for 3 hours, totally went through, and fixed any issues with my central air. The price I was quoted was the price I paid, and believe me, I definitely got more than my monies worth! I have to mention, my family suffered yesterday with extreme heat in the house, pets included. After checking reviews, I tried this local company to check my 5-year old AC unit that wouldn't start. It was a heatwave, so I think they sent an unqualified tech to my house. After 2+hours he realized that all it needed was Freon. Told us that it was expensive. I had to ask him how much it needed, he said less than 3 pounds. He poured liquid in, and it started working. Then told me that i would be paying him by the hour. I spoke with the owner the next day and he explained that because they were so overwhelmed with calls that a tech, new to their company, was learning their protocol. We had scheduled an appointment for estimate a upgrade AC unit, technician showed up, he checked everything and charge us $149.00 for an estimate and we paid. 2 weeks past by still no estimate, no quote! Called to the company couple times, the only answer they have was "will get back to us"........but they never get back to us at all. When the technician at the property I was asking for the quote and he said the price is set by the owner of the company, they can't give out any pricing! Is this company only drop by and charge people for looking at the old system but never estimate or never really do the AC work? They said the technicians are very busy for doing estimate all over the city!!! If a technician checking 5 properties a day, he's helping the company make $745 a day; if the company paying the technicians $45.00 per hour labor, the company making $385 per technician. 5 technicians help the company make $1925 per day......it is better then doing repair and install any AC unit job. Had a clogged toilet. Called McClay. Been using them for years and had always had good service at a really fair price. Not this time. They snaked the sewer line and hit me with a bill for $179 . After a call to their office, they dropped it to $149. There was no quote prior to doing the work, In the past they charged much less, From what I see most charge $50 to $90. ... Ok, everything has gone up.. I get it,,,, But 4 days later the same exact problem. It was not fixed. McLay services has been our plumbers/ heating/air conditioning service company ever since we moved here over 25 years ago. Every person they send here is skilled, friendly and honest. We have family members living in another home that needed some plumbing work. Since I have a high regard for McLay Services, I was hoping that they would be willing to go to that home and do all the repairs. Sure enough, Chad and Skyler of McLay met me there! The job ended up being complicated due to old plumbing that rusted and stuck. Chad and Skyler had to cut metal pipes, deal with removing a rusted and stubborn old faucet fixture and dislodging old valves. Any issues that came up (and there were more than a few), they had specialty tools to tackle them. It really was quite amazing to watch them work. Furthermore, I am so glad that I didn't try to tackle the job on my own. Chad and Skyler cleared two drains, put new valves under the sink, and installed a faucet and drain stop. After 3 hours of hard work by both of them, I was surprised with a very reasonable price. See, that's the thing: for 25 years, McLay has provided phenomenal work for very reasonable costs. We recently moved into a new home and have had the opportunity to get to know the McLay Services technicians and their work very, very well. We've had our entire HVAC system replaced and numerous repairs/upgrades to our plumbing over the last 6 weeks and have been extremely happy with them every step of the way. When we first contacted them regarding quotes, McLay seemed a little pricier than some other companies but once I made some phone calls and compared line items between the companies I was vetting, their pricing was on par and they seemed to really know what they are doing. I really appreciate that up front they factored in all of the small line items that other companies would add on after the initial quote was accepted. The HVAC installation took just over a week and included remediation of asbestos ducting, installation of new ducting, installation of a new vent, relocation of and new furnace, relocation of and new 19-SEER AC condenser, relocated air return, new electrical lines, new gas lines, and new thermostat. They arrived on time every day, worked diligently, and cleaned up after themselves. Archie, the owner of the company, not only checked in every day to see how the project was going but also did some of the install work himself. When the project was nearly over, he decided that the air return made too much noise, so had them replace it with a higher grade one to reduce the sound. As far as plumbing goes, we've had Chad come out twice nice. Once to replace the cheap garbage disposal that was in the kitchen when we bought the house and another time to fix a screw up by the previous owners where they had swapped cold and hot water lines. Both times, he arrived at the early end of the two hour window I was given, worked quickly and efficiently, and got the problems solved. I'm very happy with the services I've received at McLay and they have quickly become my first call for any plumbing and HVAC issues that I might have. read more

Had our 2002 water heater replaced by McLay Plumbing. Service representative from McLay (Chad) said most water heaters need to be replaced after 10 years. We were getting a strange popping noise at night -- Chad told us that was the calcium build up inside the water heater. I am a renter of a high-end condo and was watching the property manager's 'authorized' repairman mangle the repair of the broken water heater. Cameron of McLay (who was working on a neighbor's leak) poked his head in the garage just to see what was happening and we got to talking about the issue. There is no doubt that Cameron knows his stuff about water heaters and about the processes for getting the parts and for competently and SAFELY getting it repaired. I decided to send the handyman packing and would pay McLay out of my pocket to get it repaired properly. Unfortunately, the following morning I had to cancel the part order and the service so that the owner could send out their personal plumber. In any case, there are several reasons I would use McLay in the future. 1. Cameron was professional, knowledgeable, courteous, clean, and very capable. 2. The price was extremely awesome. We had a major leak in a pipe leading to our kitchen sink. After doing the best I could to trouble shoot, I realized this was above my level of expertise. Scheduled an appointment and asked that they call when the serviceman was on the way since there was a 2 hour window and I had to drive to the home to meet him. Cesar was able to identify the problem, but did not have the part, a capacitor, on the truck which required a trip of 30 min to an AC parts distributor. A plumber came to repair a leaky pipe. He put in a new pipe, but the leak was not fixed. I set up another appointment so they could come back to redo repair. THIS IS THE POINT WHERE THE ONE STAR COMES IN... They set up the appointment to begin between 9 and 11 am. By noon they still had not shown up. When I called to inquire why, and ask if it is standard for their plumbers to just NO SHOW/NO CALL, I was told I was being RUDE. I reminded the operator that being upset about a no show is normal, and a professional company providing good customer service would understand and offer an apology. I have to say I was annoyed and put out by the no show, but wasn't made furious until the operator called me rude. They were paid for a repair that was not accomplished: fine things happen. But then they treat their customer poorly. Everyone has a busy life, when you agree to a time frame, the least a service provider can do is INFORM you that they are not going to make it and revise the time frame. Oh, and not make their customers chase them down to figure out what is going on. THEN AFTER THEY DON'T FIX YOUR PROBLEM, DON'T SHOW UP TO REDO REPAIR, AND CALL YOU RUDE. I had a brand new Carrier system installed 4 years ago from another company and my condenser froze up. The company that originally installed it takes forever to have a tech come out. I found McLay Services on Carrier's website and called them. They came out next day so I signed up for their maintenance plan. Miguel came out to do the service and he was great. I also had a chance to speak to Archie (the owner) on the phone a couple times regarding possibly changing some stuff from my AC. Let's just say they earned my business. I wished they were on Carrier's website 4 years ago so I could of had them install my AC. Miguel and Archie were very easy to deal with and very honest. As we all know Summer feels like it never left. At the start of April it hit 90 degree weather. I turned on my AC and it had a very dusty smell. I knew I had to change the filters. I called McLay Sevices to make sure I was doing everything right. Since I bought my AC unit from them. (Best purchase I could have ever made). They told me I had a free maintenance check. They scheduled it for the next morning. The Tech Arrived on time and I had a million Questions. He showed me everything he was doing and how to keep my AC in good working order. We have had a strange gas smell in our house for a little while, we finally tracked it down to your downstairs heater. It seems that something was wrong however I do not know much about HVAC. I found a company in Fountian Valley that had really good Yelp reviews, I gave them a call and they were fully booked. They referred me to McLay. When I called them they were very attentive and interested in helping me solve my issue. They worked with me to get a tech out as soon as possible, which for me was the next day. Todd, was the tech that showed up, and he had a cheerful disposition and was excited to get started and make sure that everything was right. Apon basic inspection everything appeared fine, however he did a more indepth check and noticed that the gas lines that supplied the heater was loose. It so loose that he could turn it by hand. He resealed the pipe tested the unit a few times, and then validated that the other heater unit was not leaking. Overall I am super happy with the service. He took the time to explain everything to me, and assured me that the safty of my family was a prioirty for him. After having him in the house to look at the heaters, I feel that my family is safe and secure. Which is why I wanted a trustworthy company to come and fix my system. I watch a lot of Holmes Inspection and Holmes on Homes, and was very nervious about letting someone into my house. I called McLays due to a drainage pipe problem with our home A/C system. They sent a repairman later the same day. Mike showed up right on time. I explained what was happening and he knew right away what the likely cause was. He cleared the pipe and then checked it to make sure it was flowing properly again. Once he confirmed it was all good, he reassembled the pipe and gave some advice on how to keep the pipe working properly in the future. Mike was very professional and did not try to upsell anything. He quoted me a price and I scheduled for them to do the work on Thursday his guys showed up with masks and booties which I appreciated. The service was easy to setup and the technician came in fairly early within the schedule window which was nice. I give a 4 because the service price was higher than typical rates. I have a plumber that's terminally sick, so I needed to find someone with good reviews. Job took 15-20 minutes and this required an hour of work. The so called $20 discount from Angie's List is on the inflated price so the final payment was pretty much the normal rate. The tech was a good guy and helpful, but the price might not make me come back. read more
