I saw a people love us yelp sticker on the front door and had to put up an immediate review. Well after seeing the sticker I tried to open the door and realized its locked. It's 4 pm on a Saturday. I wanted to prepay cash but can't since there is no one working during normal business hours. Ok have to pay by credit. Took me 10 minutes to pump gas in my car because the damn pump isn't working right. I'm sitting here writing this review and my gas is still pumping. Screw this place. Where's the employee? I believe my entire family has taken our cars to Frank for easily the past 15 years. He has always been honest to us. Since we are mechanically inclined it might be the nature of being honest to us but they've always been good to us on jobs we didn't have time to do. I have referred him to others and he's been honest to them too. It sucks a lot of mechanics try to swindle you instead of being honest. One thing they can improve upon is knowing each others schedule.. Nothing worth getting upset about but Frank's schedule is sometimes a moving target to get the guy who answers the phone to find him. read more

I just went there to refill my AC on my BMW. Guy named Ali originally quoted me $108 flat fee to refill it. I asked several times if that would be the maximum I would pay. He assured me that it will be $108 plus tax. When I took my car there, he charged me $108 plus 3 hour labor. It took him 3 hours, what usually takes 20 minutes. He was pretty much just sitting in the front and I kept asking myself why is it taking so long. Later on after he gave me his receipt for his "labor", I have realized his strategy. I've been to this service station many times over the last decade+ and return here whenever I visit to the D.C. area. Dunn Loring Service Center feels like home -- the staff is incredibly friendly and the service is amazing. I've had my brakes done here and have had many oil changes and inspections done here as well. Even when there is a wait (which is always short), I typically find myself incredibly entertained by scoping out the generally attractive staff. There truly is nothing better than finding an honest auto mechanic. I refer all my NOVA friends to this place when they have car troubles because I know they will get amazing service at a fair price. Absolutely awesome. We followed Sovan from a service station that closed on Lee Highway (4 years ago) to this service station. He is incredible; knowledgeable, communicative, and honest. If Sovan says we need it, we do, no questions asked. . Dunn Loring Service Center's telephone number is on our refrigerator along with all of the other really important numbers such as the pediatrician, the vet, and the VA power loss of electricity line. This place is great. I followed my family mechanic over from the Sunoco service station that closed on the corner of Lee Hwy/Gallows a few yrs ago and I've been nothing short of impressed with the continued quality. They're quick, good and very reasonable on prices. Not sure what the previous gripe about leaving cars overnight was really about - sounds like he should have just replaced his own alternator. I've left vehicles overnight plenty of times - you just need to make sure you leave the key and a note with what's wrong/what you want done; otherwise, they probably wait for your call before doing anything. Makes sense. My dad takes his cars to this place, I take mine and my son will too.. that's about as glowing of a recommendation as I can give. read more

I just had my first repair done here for a tire I damaged on a wicked pothole. The service was quick and friendly. Price was reasonable. If you have wheel locks for your tires, the repairman who fixed my tire mentioned that they have a master key set. This is good to know in case your key is lost. ;) read more

I'm usually hesitant in reviewing businesses because up till now, I really haven't had a bad experience. Took my car to get inspected and failed, giving me a rejection sticker. I just moved here to VA from CA so the whole inspection thing is new to me and asked for an explanation. The mechanic who just changed my oil said they wont pass it because my drivers side tie rod is bad. I'm no mechanic, but my dad is. After calling him and he being confused because he had just replaced it, he told me to get a second opinion at a mechanic shop. Took my car to a place off lee highway and was told there's nothing wrong with my car, in fact they told me most parts of my suspension were practically brand new (which is why my dad was confused, he just changed everything before I drove the car here to VA.) Secondly a small side complaint, I was waiting inside while I watched the mechanic try to flirt with some girl near the coffee machine. After about ten minutes of this when she finally leaves, he looks over at me and says my cars ready to go and then explains all this to me. I'm sure people will probably look over my review but at least I wrote it so others who have similar experiences wont feel alone. read more

Went to the service station to have my yearly Virginia inspection done. Drove in with both headlights functioning properly. They saw that there was a message on my instrument cluster that indicated that my cornering lights were defective. These lights are convenient lights and not required by Virginia state inspection. Next thing I know they're close the bay door and were under my hood looking at my headlight. I went into the service bay and ask them why they were under my hood and they claimed my head light wasn't working. They knew full well both headlights were working when I drove into that bay. I'll never go to this place again. read more

Go elsewhere for your inspection/emissions. I've been taking all my family vehicles there over 15 years. The service is no longer the same as it was. Short story, my inspector left to go have lunch in the middle of my inspection! All of a sudden he was no where to be seen. Claims he told me he was leaving. Then blamed the line of 2 cars for my long wait. His garage buddy was equally curt in manner. The inspector invited me to try another station as he new I was upset. I plan to take him up on that. Plenty of other stations might appreciate my business. I have despised the whole emissions/inspection routine ever since a teenager. Just do your job and be polite about it. Geez. Also, the gentlemen was a chain smoker working in a gas station garage. Really? Frank, if you are reading this I always thought highly of you. But the rudeness has run a muck. BJ, regarding your silly comment below about lunch being unacceptable, let me help you out a little. How about a sign that clearly states the hours of operation to include lunch. How about extending the waiting customer the courtesy of telling them I need to eat lunch so that they might come back or seek service elsewhere. How about not driving the customers car into the bay and then disappearing (lunch in between customers not during one). How about educating your service folk not to be rude when asked a question (a common theme here with your poor reviews). How about addressing a poor review with a more intelligent response. Just to close the loop on my review of 2/13/2014. I spoke with BJ from Dunn Loring Service Center, and it turns out that I would not get a "full refund" of the roughly $800 I spent. He offered to refund the cost of the alternator ($594) but would charge me labor to replace the new part with the old part. And the previous costs for labor also would remain. So I would be out-of-pocket around $400 and I'd have a bad part in my car. Now why on earth would I or anyone do that? I just want to make it clear to all Yelp users that I did not get anything close to a full refund. read more

Our '99 Jeep Cherokee starting making some funny noises and was one month away from needing an inspection. So we called on Frank who came highly referred by a friend. Not only did we get an appointment the same day, all repairs were made within 24 hours. Turns out the strange noise we heard was a bad u-joint. It also needed brakes and a tail light to pass inspection. Prices were very fair and communication was great. We went ahead and got the state inspection done that same day to save us a trip next month. Now the Jeep runs as good as new again. I'm always suspect of glowing reviews, but they definitely deserve their ratings here on Yelp. My Mercury was making a low humming noise which I thought was a bad wheel bearing. I took it to their shop Sat. morning and they were working on it within 15 min. I drove around with the mechanic for about 10 min. while we tried to figure out which wheel was the culprit. He correctly identified the right one and replaced it with the spare I brought. I was back on the road in 1 hr. and the humming was gone. The cost was $50 cheaper than Pep Boys and about $100 less than Fairfax Auto Repair. read more

The girl at the counter and the mechanic were both friendly, which was a nice change from the usual around here when dealing with service stations. I didn't have to wait long either-- everything was finished in about 20 minutes. I checked emails during the wait using their free Wi-Fi. Price was really fair too. The mechanics are great. I think they are honest too. But the customer service in handling phone calls - totally unprofessional! I had my car inspections done by them a few months back, and since there was a problem with my sticker, I called in to ask if a replacement sticker could be issued. The response I got from the lady was, "You can get the sticker and stick it up your a**." I just wanted to be sure that I heard it right, and asked, "Did you say a**?" She says, "You heard me right. Stick it up your a**. Hehe....[pause]... Is that all?" They obviously lost one decent customer. Edit, 02/13/2012: I hate to provide a bad review just because of this incident over the phone. I've been going to Dunn Loring Service Center since 2005. I've been nothing but thrilled with everyone who's worked there. Super-friendly even when very busy, incredibly accomodating (I'm probably not the easiest person to deal with, and am pretty ridiculous with my time constraints, but they've always come through without fail). Whether it be for a simple tire mounting, or all sorts of larger work (car is currently there having it's clutch changed), or emergency repairs (blown up clutch hydraulic line a couple years ago), Dunn Loring Service Center is the place to go. The fact that they cost significantly less than nearly every other shop in the area is icing on the cake. Can't recommend them highly enough! read more

Had a transmission leak fixed this past Saturday (2/1/14) and Mike did a great job. Not only was he kind, he was honest about the condition of my transmission and showed me exactly where the problem was and how it was affecting the rest of my car. I called Dunn Loring after visiting A & S Auto Service in Tysons Corner, only to find that they were closed. (On their website, they have Saturday times posted from 8am - 2pm...I got there at 8:30ish) Everything happens for a reason, and I received great customer service at Dunn Loring. The total cost was extremely reasonable, and I didn't for a second feel as if I was being 'had'. Recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick and honest mechanic. Thanks again Mike!! **NOTE: The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the lady at the main counter/front desk. She was very pleasant, but while I was waiting for my car she began sweeping the room and practically swept dust and debris on me! When replacing a tire they over tightened a bolt. Like way too much. 4 weeks later I went to get my tires rotated and they had to break the bolt to take the tire off. It was a $400 repair just to take a tire off because they over tightened the nut. read more

I logged on to Yelp to find an honest and fair automotive repair shop. Saw this shop had all five star reviews so when my 1997 Ford Taurus was making a weird loud noise, I brought it to the location. We left it there overnight and the next day I had to call and ask if they just looked at it, they said they had not and the shop was closing at 2pm on Saturday (on this site it states they close at 8pm), it was 10:30am. I needed my car and stressed the importance of it getting resolved that day. They called back and said it was an alternator issue and needed a replacement, they quoted me 300-. Which is an insane amount for a 13 year old car and you can get a new alternator at any shop for more or less 100-. I agreed anyways as I needed the car for work. I know a replacement alternator with service charge should be around 250, after all it should take them no longer than one hour. They charged me for an hour and a half of labor (I wonder if they charged me for the time it took to get the item as well). All you do is unscrew the bolts, move the alternator, remove the belts, and take it out. Installation is exactly the opposite with ensuring belts are tight. NOT HARD. Around 2pm (supposedly when they close) I call and ask if the work is done, they say it is. So I take a taxi and get there. They hand me a 371- bill. UNBELIEVABLE! For an alternator replacement which are basically reassembled items and you get cash back if you bring the faulty alternator. I could not believe it. I let my annoyance known and have a heated discussion with the "manager". I asked how much they bought the alternator for and he would not tell me but mention it was "list price" and he will not and could not charge over. I pressed on how much he charged and then he said he got it for 240-. 240-!? for a rebuild alternator!? Amazing. They charge 80- an hour for service but ram you with over the top prices for the item, so I reason they probably get the item at a auto parts shop for anywhere 80-140 (better quality and warranty the higher), with business logic, I cannot imagine they will get the best item and charge you exactly how much they get it. They told me, I paid list but could not tell me how much the shop pays for the item (interesting). They did say the alternator has a one year warranty and if there are any issues, they will fix it at no cost to me. I know they stand to make a profit but charging me almost 400- for replacing my alternator is insane. The break down: 120- for hour and half of labor, 240 for the alternator and 12 for tax: $372-. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE! read more
