My kids love eating here, they have great food and a laidback environment. The specials are always amazing. McMinimum Service, McMinimum Quality. This place is beautiful, but that is where the positives end. Food is always delivered cold/luke warm, beer is often flat and barely cool. Wait staff is on their own time and has no concern for expediency. And if you are ever there at a shift change over.....well, good luck not getting irate. They often completely drop the ball. We were recently given a gift card for McMenamins Ironwork grill from a friend. A very nice gesture, though not my choice for a dining destination. I've lived in Forest Grove long enough to remember when the Grand Lodge was just the old Masonic home. When it was first announced that the old lodge was to be converted into a McMenamins pub/hotel property I was very excited. The old Road House had always served acceptable pub grub and decent beer at a reasonable price. So my expectations for the Grand Lodge weren't unreasonable - good beer and reasonable pub food. From the very beginning the food service and the food quality at the Lodge was "spotty". Sometimes everything seem to work as it should - good service and properly cooked food. On other occasions the wait staff seemed to be distracted, the wait for food unreasonable, and the food quality well below average. I got to the point where the idea of going for a meal at the Lodge created more anxiety than anticipation. I stopped going to the Lodge for meals. So this morning my wife and I took our gift card and had brunch at the Ironwork grill. We had a very acceptable dining experience! I still don't know if we were just lucky and happened to be there on a "good" day, or if the Lodge has finally figured out they are in the hospitality business. I hope it's the latter. I rated the Ironworks at only 3 stars. I don't forgive past sins unless I see a consistant change in behavior. I'll give them another try, but not without some anxiety. read more

Great service. I had heard the service was terrible. We came at 6pm to celebrate anniversary. The service was prompt and we were checked on by our server and 2 others several times. Drinks were out on time. Appetizer was Ahi and it was tender and tasty. Had ribeye steak which was great. If we lived here we would be regulars. read more

So I love Mcmenamins... Classic GREAT beer and sub par service. If its sunny out, its PACKED and don't be vegetarian BC ul get a chicken salad and then when u tell them u ordered a salmon salad they'll take it back and throw salmon on top of the chicken... Then when u tell them "there's still chicken on my salad" ul get an attitude and food 1'30" later. Good thing the beers good. read more

We were told there was a "20 minute wait" when we arrived so we took a buzzer and went up to our room. After 40 minutes we went back down to check in and the hostess stated she must have checked off the wrong party so we were overlooked. At this point the place was empty and we were pretty annoyed. We were seated and were able to order, but despite the empty tables still waited over 35 minutes for our subpar food. Would definitely not return unless we are forced to. read more

Great old authentic ironwork in a beautiful garden setting within the McMenamins Grand Lodge. Food was okay but the atmosphere made up for it. Service was mediocre but I was willing to overlook it since the rest of the setting was great1 The McMenamins ales and wines were quite good! read more

Amazing service. Both the bartender and server were really warm, welcome and accommodating. Got the happy hour brewers salad and Cajun tots. Tried the terminator mustard sauce and enjoyed it a lot for not being a big mustard fan! Beautiful restaurant and great view outside. read more

The food is over priced for the area and what you get. 13.50 for chicken wings, 16.50 for a Bison burger... Not bad for a four star restaurant but for a pub in Forest Grove not so much. Food, is fine overall, but I wouldn't recommend it as a regular lunch spot. Also if your in a hurry, skip this place. Friendly for sure, but SLOW as molasses. read more

The food your typical McMenamin's food. Average nothing extraordinary. I would've thought this particular restaurant would've had a little bit more fine dining. My has husband ordered fish and chips nice and crispy but bland I ordered the mushroom pasta very little flavor to it whatsoever. Although the house salad was decent. Have had dinner here a few times and I agree with the other reviews - OK food but not great service. We have always loved how the Grand Lodge looked though and we wanted our wedding in that setting. We got married there in June of last year. Our rooms were not all that impressive but certainly interesting. All of the rooms bar a few "suites" are extremely small so expect stubbed toes during your visit. Our wedding planner, Hilary, was great though and did a fantastic job with my wedding. Our ceremony and reception both took place in the compass room and both were successful. I only wish that I would have brought decorations to the room because it looked rather boring and bland during our ceremony. The waiters and bartenders for our open bar were great and a fab time was had by all. I will say that I enjoyed their breakfast. A-OK. read more

Just ate at the Ironwork Grill. I'm sorry if this is the restaurant for this hotel there should be a higher quality of dinner fare than bar food. The bar food is a lot better than the restaurant food. I had the steak and it blew. I expect more and was left dissatisfied. read more

As in most McMenamins, you roll the dice on who they have working the day you go in to determine your overall experience. Some of their chef's are better than others, some of their wait staff is better than others as well. If you hit it on a good night, you can get okay food with a smile and one of their great beers on tap to top it off. The food is not super noteworthy but it's okay if you just want a bite and a beer without much fuss. I'm a fan of their decor so that adds to my overall experience and having hit the 2 bars in their basement several times, as well as their theater upstairs does make me a bit biased (we have limited bars/theater options in Forest Grove) but I think it's a decent experience, decent food and usually decent staff. If you have kids, it's a easy accessible place that has food most children will like and they do have a Kids Menu. read more

We just keep coming back, even though sometimes the service isn't the best. Great for happy hour, great for beer and a meal and free music on most Friday nights. Great to sit outside in the summer with a pint. I also enjoy coming for breakfast on the weekends. Get the cajun tots, and a surprisingly fantastic prime rib on Friday and Saturday nights. Nice to have a place like this literally down the street, family members not from here are always jealous that we have such a great venue at our disposal all the time. read more

Very disappointed; to start, the menu is outdated with not that many options and a little pricey for the quality of food and service. I came with some friends, and in addition to the fact that we didn't know who our server was because we had 4-5 people approach the table, when the food arrived it did not look like the menu said it was supposed to look. They were missing ingredients and when we asked our server (or should I say the girl that came to ask if we had gotten everything) about it, she did not know what to say except for yes it looks like it is missing some stuff. By the time they got the right plates out, half my party was done with their meal. Overall the food was bland, the service was slow and bad. We are not coming back. read more

We went here to celebrate my son's 30th Birthday. We had almost 40 people and did separate checks. We were in the "library" which was perfect for that size group. The service and food were excellent and our 2 waitresses (Shelby and Victoria) did a fantastic job keeping everything straight. They were also very accommodating with my requests. I love this place. The atmosphere is great and it is totally worth walking all the halls to see the artwork. I hadnt been there for quite awhile to order food and was a bit disappointed with my burger. I ordered the Captain Neon, which I have ordered many times before and it just wasnt as good, but that could just be a different cook. All in all, its a great place to spend time and eat. read more

She assures me they are working on it. I believe that the staff people are nice, I appreciate her concern. I offered that other places get this piece right, so can McMenamins. We were here for lunch. Had the garden burger and Capt. Neon burger with the clam chowder soup and tots. The burgers were very good, the soup very good as well. It's a beautiful property to either just hang out for a beer or enjoy the free movies they show outside on the lawn. Very friendly personal too. read more

We were satisfied. We stayed at the property for three nights, and had breakfast and lunch, both at off-peak times. Our service was prompt, appropriately attentive, and friendly. Our food was delivered just as ordered, and was quite good. The eggs were cooked just as requested, as was the burger ordered for lunch. The burger was tasty, though not large, and the grilled ham sandwich was juicy and delicious. Also, there are tater tots. These are worth the trip by themselves. We always feel comfortable lingering here, as long as we aren't holding a table someone might be waiting for. We will come back again. read more

While I do like the feel of the establishment, I have been coming here for year and the staff just always seems to be lacking. Service is always slow and in not sure if this is because of the front or back of the house. Or perhaps both. The food is okay depending on what you order. Stopped serving breakfast at 10:55 on a Saturday. McMenamins burgers-and-fries daytime fare is commonplace, overpriced, and not very good, so we would go almost anywhere else if we could, but this town doesn't seem to have much else to offer. read more
