I love mcmenamins, this place was very cute on the outside. Vines on the building giving it a magical look, and outside seating for my dog. I really liked the shrimp sliders, love the Cajun tots, and I always recommend the passport. read more

We sat outside around 4 PM on a Monday, it was a beautiful area on their patio with lots of seating. We ordered a basket of tater tots from the happy hour menu, it was a large serving and just perfect. Great service, will be back! read more

Brought my parents here when they came to town. We all got a little bit of everything. Drinks were great lots of choices, food was really good also great options and the service was good. Every single time I order food from here my burger is RARE and my tots don't have Cajun seasoning and there overcooked... i pacifically order my burger WELL DONE and my tots with Cajun seasoning. Super sad. For the third time on Door Dash, we didn't receive the 2 orders of Ruby. We are forced to order food and always get tater tots. The last of 5 times, the driver shows up with just the cold tots. Due to this being the third time, we will no longer try. Everybody was so friendly when I called in to order take out and when I walked out the door. I ordered my burger medium. I get home and my burger was way over well done to the point where I couldn't finish it. I have never had a burger SO overcooked, it's disappointing. I also asked for Cajun tots, they charge extra for Cajun tots and they gave me regular ones. Overall, I'm disappointed with their food! read more

My boyfriend and I frequented this spot often the last few years, but within the past year have come back less and less due to the service being incredibly slow. The last time we were here it easily took 15-20 minutes just to be greeted and another 15 or more for our order to be taken and was not given silverware or condiments without asking for it from the bar. We wanted to give it one more try since not being here for about 6 months or so since that happened, and again weren't greeted at all for 15 almost 20 minutes, so we left due to not even being greeted or any sort of acknowledgment after being sat. Sad to say, the Mcmenamen's chain has discontinued one of their best items...the fresh cut French fries. The substitute frozen fries are no where close! It used to be fun to order some hamburgers and beer and order two or three baskets of the fries for our group of six or eight. But the heart of the gathering is gone and it doesn't sound like it is coming back. So our once monthly gathering is switching to pizza until we find another great burger and beer joint. read more

Anyways, after a little history I came to appreciate what the McMenamins ownership does,which is take historic buildings and make them into various themed bars throughout the area. My friend James brought me here and we sat on the deck. It's kind of a smaller location but the deck is worth it. It was slow when we showed up and that was awesome. We were seated emidiatly. Menu's brought and drinks ordered. Our waitress was great. It was a warm day and the steady water flow was appreciated. I wasn't getting all proper, I had a Ruby Ale. It was bomb of course. I forgot what my friends burger was called but he looked sleepy after trying to eat it and his fries. It did look delicious but the world around me faded hard when our waitress sat my Portland Dip in front of me. Au ju dipping sauce. Grilled Turkey, onions, cheese. Oh ya, there was cheese. Don't feel sorry for my sandwich. It knew how it looked when it left the kitchen. All hot and juicy. Oh you brought fries as well! Let's do this! And that was that. My friend told me after we ate, he was going to say something to me while I ate but knew I wouldn't listen. He was correct. It was all fries, dipping sauce and guttural noises. Mcminamins has a special place in my heart! Stumbled upon this gem on a road trip 4 years ago and came back on a recent visit to Portland. It did not disappoint! The wait staff are very friendly and knowledgeable! We had a beer flight, the curried black bean stew, and el Diablo. The curry was at the rec of our server. Great recommendation! It has this smokey flavor that really sets it off-- very filling. And their fries are a must have!! I really can't name a better french fry! (Lol!) The flight came with 6 of any beer (emphasis on any). No one is wearing a mask. They have a patio, which makes it feel safer. Overall great service and bomb @$$ bar food! read more

Ah, John Barleycorns, how I love thee. This is a great McMenamins stop when in the Tigard area. Conveniently located near a business park section of the town it's easy for me to get to. I've stopped here many times. One of the things I loved about their menu is that they have sliders on the happy hour menu. Other McMenamins may have them but this is one place I keep coming back to for them. Their fries are always good (but that's dangerous too) because you usually cannot leave them on the table. They have a main dining area and a bar area which is nice. They also have a nice outdoor space on the north side of the building with a lot of trees and outdoor furniture in the warmer months. A really nice respite for some dinner and drinks. I hope to come back sometime soon (post-pandemic) to drop in. read more

We ordered a burger with Cajun tots along with a the TNT basket and everything was just... not well cooked. Tots and chicken were undercooked, burger was soggy from the amount of sauce on it. This happens every time. Do they not read what is on the order or just throw everything together. Ordered the shrimp in butter sauce. It was more like a soup not a sauce. A sauce is thick and rich not runny like water. That part was very disappointing. The positive is It was loaded with great tender shrimp. Kitchen needs to pay more attention to what people are requesting. Hopefully this review will get back to the kitchen in management and more care will be taken. read more

Good food and good service. They have a semi open kitchen which was clean when I took a peak inside and the food came out fast and hot. The servers/bartenders were attentive and made us feel comfortable and at home. This is one of the better McMenamins in the area. Looking forward to coming back in the spring with the patio is a little more inventing and not so cold. read more

This was a stop on the way home from visiting one of the pumpkin patches in the area. We were there to collect our stamp and decided to grab lunch. We stood at the door for 10 minutes before someone even acknowledged us. They cleaned a table and sat us, another 7 minutes went by before anyone came to get our drink order. We usually pack a little extra patience these days since everyone is short staffed but there were plenty of staff, they just seemed to be a little rude. Lunch was ok but the place looks very dirty like it could use a good cleaning. We will never return to this location ever again since there are so many others that are way more inviting and the people are actually a lot nicer. The Hot Buttered Rum wasn't even made right. Such an all around sad experience at this location. If you have an open kitchen with plain view of patrons you should probably keep it cleaner than the current condition. Gross!! Just got the McMenamin's passport a few months ago and since we aren't from Oregon or Washington, I always try to convince the hubby to have a meal or drink at one of em so that I can get stamp/s. We were on our road trip to California and this location is located south of downtown Portland and near I-5 South so we figured it was a food pitstop for us since we were both craving their tater tots. Upon entering, there was a sign to seat yourselves so we found a table near the window. As expected from a McMenamins, service can be quite spotty mainly because there are only a few servers covering several tables at a time. Our server was very nice and friendly but it took a while to get menus, place an order, etc because she was busy tending to other tables as well. I ordered 1/2 Tuna sandwich with cajun tots while the hubby ordered a Smoke House Turkey Dip. My tuna was good, a bit too much mayo but it was tasty. Loved the tater tots but would've wanted it a bit hotter when it was served to us -- it wasn't warm anymore. The ranch dip was delicious (my fave!). Hubby was okay with his sandwich, nothing noteworthy to share. The peppermint mocha was deliciousy alcoholic. Overall, I was glad to try this place but our lunch took longer than expected as everything just a bit slow. read more

Frequent visitor to this McMenamins venue. Very cool inside. Food, service and drinks are always great. Good happy hour too. However I noticed their prices have gone up a lot: $20 for Chicken Diablo sando and same price for Hummus Plate. You can get cheaper fare at Oswego Grill!! read more

The food is OK, but on our last visit a couple of months ago, the fries were soaked in grease. We even sent them back for new batch, and they came out again exactly the same way - greasy. Went back this week to give it another shot - waited over 45 minutes after ordering (we were seated at the bar), and our food order was still backed up due to shortage of cooks and a large party that came in at the same time we did. I am pretty sure we place our order before they did. The bartender and manager seemed unfazed and lacked any sort of empathy for our situation. We left. Will not return for there are many other $18 burger / $7.50 draft places out there with just as much ambience and more professionalism for the restaurant industry than this place. Oh, and the guy making the drinks kept sticking his fingers in the drinks while making them - in between he was wiping the bar and doing other stuff with hands - just nasty. read more
