McNan's has delicious cannolis and carrot cake!! Sandwiches are affordable and always made thick :) One time I had stopped in and asked Mike (owner) if he had any chicken soup, he said no--but offered to make me some with the chicken bouillon powder he had. Our local Habitat group had catered sub platters this weekend. They were delicious! Fresh made and cut to order. The Italian was the favorite! In town for a meeting at a local plant and had time for lunch. I looked on Yelp and it had good reviews. I walked in and was greeted by two happy people, very cool and rare these days! The place had a little of everything, I even walked out with a choice piece of Vinyl to listen to when I got home! The easy to talk to guy making sandwiches pointed me to the menu that was pretty deep, he made me one of the best Italian subs I have had in a while! It had 4 or 5 meats in it and the bread was perfect for what it was holding. I ate half on my tailgate watching the bustle of Philmont and hoped to get the other half home to show my wife (we live 4 hours away in Rochester). At least she got to listen to the vinyl. Snagged a slice for my birthday and it hit the spot - moist, dense carrot cake baked to perfection with a not-too-sweet cream cheese frosting. Even got a birthday song from the owner! We had Mike and Nancy cater a small birthday gathering for my wife, for her 65th birthday and for a few of her closest friends. We had assorted heroes and salads which were the best I have had in a long time, maybe ever. The heroes were cut up and arranged on platters, and overstuffed to the max. The salads were the best ever, and Mike is a great guy to boot! Look, the place may not look like much. I haven't been in a deli that looked anything like this since I was a kid growing up in the south Bronx. DO NOT be put off by what it looks like... It brought back some good memories for me. I personally get mine on a roll and have them put a small amount of mayo on the inside of the bun. Value: 10/10 Small town prices. They do not skimp out in anyway. We stopped by McNan's yesterday on whim while on the way to the airport, after following the signs on the highway for food. Opting to skip eating at the nearby sports bar or at the restaurant listed on the highway sign, we discovered this absolute gem of a small town deli. Sitting in one of the two little tables (it's mostly geared for takeout) as the windows steamed up and as the snow fell outside, we had their chicken soup (that day's special which was absolutely delicious and chock full of chicken with a super rich base) and two sandwiches. Their reuben was a revelation - huge amounts of hot sliced meat sandwiched between toasted marbled rye bread, and the perfect combination of cheese, sauerkraut and dressing. I will be dreaming about that sandwich for the rest of my life. Literally not kidding. The deli is old fashioned and refreshingly unsophisticated with handwritten signs on the walls like "Whole pickles" and "Order the special - it makes the chef happy", and as the chef studied at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, it's definitely worth making him happy. I would have gone back again today for another reuben but unfortunately I had to fly back to the UK. Sadness. read more

I moved to Philmont earlier this year and bemoaned the fact that in order to pick up some staples like lettuce and fruits and vegetables I would need to drive 10 miles to the nearest grocer. But lo and behold. McNan's opened and now I can happily drop in and buy everything from celery to cranberries and even pie crust!! If that's not your bag they have wonderful homemade soups, tempting desserts and fabulous made to order sandwiches. Nothing bad to say. They even stay open until 7 in the evening which again is a godsend. If you want to eat on the premises you can do that too. Lovely people, great service. What more could you want? read more

A great old fashion local deli, country market. McNan's is delightful local town favorite. They make great, generous sandwiches that are sure to satisfy. I particularly enjoy their roast beef with horseradish mayo. Primarily take out, they do have a couple of tables where you can sit and enjoy a bite while chatting with the owners and other patrons.
