There was no one at any tables. There did not appear to be any lights on inside (including the lights of the "Open" sign on the door). There was one older gentleman standing inside, glaring out the window while talking on a phone, but that just made us uneasy to approach the door. Drove by around 7:30pm the same Saturday night. The "Open" sign was lit, but the place looked empty.

It came with brisket, pulled pork , sausage , chicken, ribs and two sides. The Corn bread melts in your mouth , and the mac and cheese side would even be perfect as a main ! My cocktail "smoke and mirrors", had a strong pear taste with a full brandy body. Definitely needs another staff member or two as the drink specialist was also serving the whole restaurant, taking orders and greeting. Including the outside. Although at times we were waiting , for example to pay as it got busier although we waited a while for our bill and drink refills but, it never felt excessively long even with this crutch. Price for quantity, taste , and its classy ambience and style make this place a must go in St. Catharines, even the whole Niagara Region !

Returned! To celebrate my daughter's birthday. I have been thinking of taking her here, knowing…read morethat she would enjoy their cocktails. I am glad that we chose this place! Each dish has elevated twist, and the price is so reasonable and even generous for the quality. Cocktails are excellent (lots of line-ups). They also serve nice choices of local craft beers on tap. We ordered: (Food) #Cast Iron Baked Brie fresh baked brie with house-made wild berry compote, candied pecans, prosciutto, garlic crostini $17 : This served as perfect appetizer for 3 of us. Enjoyable. Variety of ways to enjoy the baked brie. #Canadian Striploin 7oz striploin, garlic herb mashed potatoes, grilled seasonal vegetables: We tried different & great steak dish here before, and this one is also EXCELLENT - the on-point seasonings, perfectly med-rare. Roasted veggies and mashed potato leave its own flavour and texture with right amount of seasonings. #Stuffed Mushroom Ravioli stuffed with wild mushrooms, tossed in a beurre blanc sauce, topped with fresh Parmesan: I wished the ravioli itself had more mushroom-forward flavor, and the wrapper had more delicacy (in terms of thickness and texture). However, I loved the beurre Blanc sauce - it was foamy - making the butter-ly and creamy sauce feel light in the mouth. Nice hint of tangy-ness. #Herb Crusted Salmonwith garlic herb mashed potatoes, grilled seasonal vegetables, and beurre blanc sauce: The same sauce as ravioli, that matched with salmon well. (Cocktails) #Fig Fizz: With Durham distillery Gin, Raspberry Liqueur, fig jam, lemon juice, honey syrup, soda # Lavender cosmopolitan # Passion Prosecco Martini # Spicy Hibiscus Margarita All the cocktails were presented beautifully. Today's highlight was Spicy Hibiscus Margarita. (Dessert) Chocolate Espresso Martini Cake rich vanilla cake, mascarpone, house-made chocolate espresso mousse $10: Essentially, tiramisu. lol. Nicely presented. This place is versatile for us. Just for snack, just for cocktails, just for local beer, and elevated food experiences. Promising satisfying experience in each occasion. So blessed to have this place in my neighbourhood.

For my drink, I got the Forbidden Fruit and my friend chose the Haw Yeah. I thought my drink was ok, nothing great. My friend's drink was definitely better than mine. Sometimes you walk into a place and you instantly fall in love…read more Lonely Diner is just such a place. It's got this '70s rec-room basement vibe that I personally find completely irresistible. If I had a house, I'd want at least one room that looks exactly like what Lonely Diner's got going on. And fortunately, the drinks and food live up to the incredible atmosphere. I started out with the Haw Yeah ("Rum blend, amaro meletti, pernod, hawflakes, high octane black sugar falernum, mulberry grenadine, lime"), which is a delicious spin on a typical tiki drink. I've ordered it twice now, and it's satisfied me completely on both occasions. Another favorite for me is the Lucky Numb-er 8 ("Gin, pomello & lemongrass gentian, cocchi americano, dry vermouth, sichuan peppercorn tincture"), which is their spin on a white Negroni. It's so damn good. It's packed with flavor and definitely reminds me of a Negroni, but like better than any Negroni I've ever had. If that wasn't impressive enough, the food is terrific too. I tried one of their specials, the Wasabi Fried Chicken Sandwich ("Sichuan peppercorn battered fried chicken with a wasabi spiced caesar dressing and anchovies on a brioche bun"), on my latest visit and it's so, so good. The perfectly cooked and impressively juicy chicken is accompanied by an incredibly flavorful assortment of accouterments. I inhaled it, pretty much. The servers at Lonely Diner are super friendly and helpful, too. I love Lonely Diner. I hope it sticks around for a long, long time.

We went there with friends of ours before a show at the Pelham Townhall. Read the reviews before…read moredeciding and while the apps were described as lacking, we decided to give it a try. I would have to say I absolutely 100% agree with the previous reviews about appetizers. My husband ordered a French onion soup and for the table we ordered the margarita flatbread and the Arancini. My husband said the soup was not very tasty, with a weak broth. The margarita of flatbread had a very nice topping however, however, the flatbread itself was very dry and tasteless. Not a hint of flavor or density to the dough. Flatbread can be very tasty if made with some herbs, salt and garlic. As for the Arancini, they were so dry and again had absolutely minimal flavor. Would've been helpful if there was a little more sauce so you could've dragged a piece of the Arancini through it to offer some flavor and moisture. I truly enjoy Arancini and I will say, although these weren't the worst they were definitely not anywhere memorable or enjoyable . As for the charcuterie board, it's nice the way you get to pick what you want and it was well done. The bread that accompanied it was very nice. Wine selection by the glass is sort of lacking in variety. Three Negroni's were ordered for the table and all agreed that there was a shortage of gun in the drinks. The place is very comfortable, with a friendly staff. And while the charcuterie board was very good, please be aware that this place is a little pricey for what you get. As for the apps, they have a limited ability with the size of the kitchen I saw. The person developing the menu should think about what can be prepared in house that will have flavor and be appealing. May I suggest buying a quality flatbread at a local bakery and then just add the toppings. As for French onion soup,it's very easy to not make a good one. French onion soup takes a rich broth with plenty of herbs and flavor, as well as a good amount of onions and the Arancini's at the very least they needed to have some sauce because they were terribly dry.
