Found MDZ Computers through Yelp. Walt installed a Solid State Drive on my pc and transferred the operating system and each and every file so that it works perfectly. It boots up super fast now! This is the best computer repair shop around. Luckily, I found these fine folks through other reviews here on Yelp, and was never disappointed--only surprised and impressed. This is a slightly off-the-beaten-path, mom and pop type of business that is -- lucky for me -- within walking distance. I've now been here twice. The first time, I needed the LCD screen on my beloved laptop replaced, which they did at an amazing price and with a turnaround of less than one day. They also spiffed up the old gal and installed quality anti-virus protection at no charge. Visit number two was a bit more dire. My baby's hard drive crashed after more than 7 years of devoted service. After three days of troubleshooting, they were able to recover my hard drive, although the laptop itself was no longer viable. I really commend Walter, the proprietor, for his painstaking work, and the whole staff for superb customer service while I stressed out over the procedure. Because this is a neighborhood joint, and the folks there really care, I was charged a very small amount for the labor, and was able to pick up a refurbished PC at a price no other dealer could possibly meet. I took apart my desktop pc to clean out some dust... long story short i broke something. It cost me $90 and 3 weeks (although it was some holiday period) to get my pc fixed. That sounds like a lot of money and time right? Well, I had broken a really really small pin on my CPU and the M C Computers guy managed to diagnose the problem after examining it with a magnifying glass. Had I gone to Best Buy they would've probably recommended I buy a new CPU and probably a new GPU too. Given that the CPU was worth at least twice what I paid to get it fixed, I'd say it was a steal. I've taken two of my PCs (both Sony VAIOs) to MC Computer and felt like at last I'd found a computer repair shop that is not trying to make me buy a whole new computer, but instead is actually *fixing* the computer I have! For less than an arm, a leg, and two eyeballs. In other words, MC Computers does exactly what they say they'll do: fix your computer. Once was a hardware fix - the place where the power cable plugged into the computer died (this has happened with several VIOS I've had). The other was a repair of the connections between screen and hard drive as I dropped my computer (it bounced). Both times the repairs were completed in a timely manner, Walter was great about sticking to his estimate both in price and timing, and I was extremely pleased with the service. The only drawback is that no one actually called me when my computer was fixed, so I ended up calling myself at the end of the day they estimated it would be done. Not great at returning messages. I had an external hard drive that just plain stopped connecting to my computer. I figured it was lost. On a whim, I decided to search on Yelp some computer places. MC Computers (or MDZ Computers as the sign says) was one of the first options. So I called, spoke to Walter, explained the situation. He was happy to take a look at it and, if it works, I could transfer my data to another hard drive. He gave me an exceptionally fair price and told me to come down now if I wanted. My hard drive failed back in 2006 and I took my Dell PC to MC to replace the hard drive since I was just a month over the 1-year warranty. A friend recommended MC, and they were able to swap out the old hard drive and reinstalled the Windows OS. I didn't seem to have any issues. Between 2010 and now, I purchased a laptop and eventually stopped using the Dell desktop. I recently pulled the computer out to again so that I could setup my mom on a machine and the screen displayed a message saying that I need to enter a windows activation code. I contacted Dell and Microsoft customer support to figure out why I needed a new activation for a legitimate machine I bought on Dell.com. After over an hour of troubleshooting, it turns out that I have an illegal copy of Windows installed on my machine. I like to support small local business, but not when their practices are inappropriate. read more

I live in Sherman Oaks, but it was worth the drive to be helped by honest, hardworking people who aren't going to rip you off. They keep odd hours, which is cool if you need to go there after work or on a Saturday. Check them out. We decided to go for a second opinion, my neighboor told me about this place runned by a family close to my home. The service was great they were verry respectfull and friendly. I took my Sony laptop to MC computers (now called MDZ computer) to get the keyboard replaced. Simple enough right? Not really. Here's my story of how the frustration I endured with this shop. Sorry it's a bit lengthy: I was told by Walter that my keyboard would arrive in a week or so, but after a week I didn't receive a call. When I called, I got some excuse about the keyboard being difficult to find. I waited about a week longer then I called again. I called several times over the course of several days but they didn't answer. Apparently they don't ever call their customers back or answer customers' calls. Then I had my mom call from a number they didn't know (since I knew they had caller ID) and low and behold his wife answered. She said the keyboard had "arrived" but wasn't the correct one--that they put it in but the keys were still not working. At this point 3 weeks had already passed and I was getting really fed up. I decided to go see my laptop. When I finally saw my laptop I suspected what they told me was a lie since my laptop looked untouched. Now I KNOW it was a lie since Walter has no idea how to change the keyboard on this laptop (more on this below). I was completely disappointed about having wasted 3 weeks of my time so I took my laptop with a nonfunctional keyboard with me since I needed it for school. Walter's wife told me they had already ordered the correct keyboard... and that they would call me when it arrived. I was doubtful of taking my laptop back to Walter but he let me borrow their charger since mine was at my parent's house and it was a bit of a drive for me. When the correct keyboard finally arrived a few days later, I took my laptop back (huge mistake) along with their charger. They said they needed at least 2 days to change the keyboard, which seems odd enough because it should be a 1 hour job at most. I waited two days and on the second day I called several times and again got no answer! I went anyway and when I arrived my laptop was completely taken apart with the fan and several components taken out!! Walter had been watching a Youtube video on how to FIX THE MOTHERBOARD on this model! He said the only way to get the keyboard out was to take it apart. It was obvious to me he didn't know what he was doing since he was basically copying the guy on the video. On top of that he had my computer upside down without a cloth underneath it. When I looked at the top of my laptop it was completely scratched!! I confronted him that he scratched my laptop, and he blamed his coworker! At this point I was in tears due to the frustration and because he scratched my computer real bad. I told him that I just wanted to take my laptop and he took 45 minutes to put the laptop back together. It was now a month later and my laptop still had a nonfunctional keyboard and it was now scratched thanks to Walter and MC Computers. Although Walter and his wife may be nice people they are not experts. And they don't call their customers back nor do they answer their customers' calls. On top of that they are not professional and don't understand that laptops mean a lot to their owners (since they scratched mine). And there's more proof that Walter had no idea what he was doing with my laptop. I ended up taking it to A-1 Computer Repair in NoHo and Mr. Jeff took less than 20 minutes to change keyboard on my laptop!!!!! Which is crazy since Walter couldn't do it in a whole day with a Youtube video!!! read more
