And there isn't any regular update and that means you can try calling--IF they even kerp the outgoing message accurate. I finally made it to Touch of Soul since they moved. It was excellent! It at least seemed the food was spot on with all dishes cooked with aplomb. My only issue with TOS (a personal pet peeve) is they never returned to real plates and actual silverware. All you can get even for dine-in are plastic utensils. Anyway, in short, southern cafe is dead--Go to touch of soul on adeline

I drive down this place nearly weekly and everytime I look the line is crazy long or they're closed. So one day the boyfriend and me drove by, hadn't ate and seen no line. So we stopped. Big mistake! I ordered Breaded Pork Chops with red beans and rice and mac! The pork chop had so much breading..... so salty. My cholesterol went out the roof. Rice was hard still, mac was just okay! Now on to my poor boyfriends meal... he actually wanted what I ordered lol! We tend to always want the same meals ag places but since i'm so picky he's always thoughtful and lets me get it then he'll order something different. He went with the Meatloaf with mac and rice and gravy..... i'm sure you can tell just by the picture of that meatloaf he wasn't very happy! I forgot to take a pic of what it looked like when we cut it.. but it was RAW. The sauce they smothered it in was disgusting. The gravy on rice was beyond salty. The only item edible on our plates was our mac. I wouldn't be back nor do I recommend them. There prices are way too high for the quality of their food. Oakland has way more soul food places worth checking out!

No complaints though--it made for a relaxed meal and the service was attentive. I ordered the fried chicken and beignets with gravy, and it was excellent. I'm usually someone who prefers bone-in fried chicken, but this version won me over. The chicken was juicy with perfectly seasoned, crispy breading, and the savory gravy paired surprisingly well with the beignets. Everything on the plate complemented each other without feeling too heavy. The only miss for me was the orange juice--it was pretty forgettable. But honestly, the rest of the meal more than made up for it. I'd happily come back for the fried chicken.

I am happy to see the menu has never changed (if it ain't broke don't fix it). The customer service has and still is great. The ambiance is nice and clean while sprinkling as much Louisiana vibes as possible (mardi Gra mask, beads, music, etc). My go to is catfish and hush puppies I am not a spicy girl when it comes to my food so FYI the gumbo has a spicy kick to it. 3 bites and I had to stop eating it but sure it's flavorful The only items they still have that I do not like is the potato salad. Would I go back? Well of course. I never stopped going.

The only downside was the wait. There were long lines to get to many of the dishes, and having to wait for certain items to be refilled took away from the experience. Since this is a timed dining experience, spending part of that time waiting for food was a bit disappointing. At around $80 per person, I think the overall operation could be a little more refined and better stocked throughout the service. That said, the quality of the food definitely delivered, and despite the minor frustrations, it was a solid dining experience that I'd recommend.

I had wanted to come here for my birthday (for the Peach cobbler) but each call made, the restaurant required Reservations. We drove 90 minutes each way from Danville. We arrived 5:30 pm Saturday evening. Out of Fried Ribs Out of Potato salad Out of Rice Out of peach cobbler (disappointing) Our party of 3 had reservations. We arrived early. The staff glady welcomed us early. Our waiter (with 49er cap) was friendly, promptly brought water and cornbread to our table. Ordered appetizers Deviled Eggs and chicken wangs - so our group could sample their fried chicken.(Recommended on Reviews) 4 pieces of eggs (2 types) w/ salmon or caviar. Great flavor. Chicken wing 4 pieces (drumette & winglets) were freshly fried. A good change from traditional type fried chicken. Entrees we ordered: Ox-tail Shrimp and Grits Fried Ribs with greens & candied yams. Shortly our waiter came out to inform me that they didn't have enough ribs for my entree, so i selected the fried chicken. Note: had the appetizer chicken arrived before i had to change my order,, i would NOT have selected fried chicken. ( a bit too salty for my personal health). And then our waiter came out to inform us they were out of rice for the Oxtail entree, and ask if the mashed potatoes would be ok. We were enjoying ourselves honestly, music was good, so the interruptions and changes did not bother us- this was our first time here, we DROVE all the way here for a good time. Food arrived. My wife loved her serving of 5 shrimp over a bed of grits ,, stated they were cooked properly. She ate her shrimp- didn't offer to share!! Left about 1/2 the bacon &grits. For our friend's entree, The waiter commented that they de-boned the meat off the oxtails- a bit un-expected as the dish appeared like dark beef stew over mashed potatoes. One could not tell it was really oxtails. Flavor was good. She cleared her plate. My fried chicken (3 pieces- leg, thigh, full wing) were fried exactly the same as the appetizer. I gladly ate it- but was concerned of my salt intake. I loved my yam and greens (again concerned of my salt intake- so only ate 1/2 the serving) Our waiter apologized for the lack of desserts, made no alternative offerings eg. Ice cream??? And handed us our check. I sm a big fan of soul / southern food, I'm not sure I would drive 3 hours RT for this Napa restaurant again,, but im still curious for the peach cobbler.

Our server was great, and the vibe was excellent, definitely a classic SF restaurant! I got the slushee of the day + rum which was super tasty. For food I got the risotto with blackened chicken. It was good, but not the best risotto I've had. There was a bit too much of the misc toppings, and I wish the actual risotto had a bit more flavor. For dessert, we got the beignets. Also pretty good, but not the best ever. They were freshly made and super warm, which was great. Prices are a biiiit steep, but the overall experience and quality of food makes up for it. As someone who has works in the restaurant industry, I understand firsthand how challenging this business can be, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for the people who work hard to make a dining experience memorable. That's why I don't say this lightly when I say that our food experience tonight was extremely disappointing. We ordered the pork chop, which was okay, but the cabbage side was honestly hard to eat. I'm not sure if it was intended to be slaw or steamed cabbage, but it was essentially wet cabbage with very little flavor. The potatoes were decent, although the portion was quite small and they had a texture that tasted almost like boxed mashed potatoes. The biscuits were extremely dry and hard, and unfortunately, the butter served alongside them wasn't very good either. The spinach that came with the special was, without exaggeration, one of the worst parts of the meal. It had a very unpleasant taste that made us question whether something was off with it. There really wasn't another way to describe it. For a $44 plate, I expect the steak to be cooked properly, the sides to be flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, and the entire dish to feel worth the price. We also ordered a peach soda that was $10, which already feels very expensive for a soft drink. What was even more surprising was finding out that refills were not complimentary. That's something I feel should be clearly communicated when ordering. This is supposed to be soul food, a style of cooking known for bold, comforting, flavorful food. Unfortunately, our meal just didn't deliver that. Everyone at our table left feeling unsatisfied. We spent $163 for three entrées, three drinks, and two orders of biscuits. When you spend that kind of money and the food is exceptional, you leave feeling like it was money well spent. When the experience falls this far short, it's understandably frustrating and leaves you questioning the value. I do want to give credit where it's due: our server was wonderful. We had absolutely no complaints about the service. He was attentive, pleasant, and did her job well. I genuinely hope this feedback is received in the spirit it's intended. I know how difficult the restaurant business is, and I'm not looking to tear anyone down. I simply believe that when a meal costs this much, the quality, flavor, portions, and overall execution should reflect the price.

I hadn't been since last summer and was happy to return. Parking can be a bit hectic, but once you're inside, the atmosphere makes up for it. It's a family-owned spot, and you can feel it right away -- everyone is kind, welcoming, and takes the time to check in on you. We came for breakfast, but they also offer lunch and barbecue options, so there's plenty to choose from depending on when you go. They've also expanded and now have a location in Elk Grove. I ordered the French toast plate, which came with thick-cut slices of bread, eggs, and bacon. The French toast was soft on the inside with a nice golden finish, full of flavor without being overly sweet. The eggs were well seasoned, and the bacon was cooked just right. BB ordered the cheeseburger with fries and a side of grits. The burger was juicy with grilled onions and melted cheese, and the fries had that crispy, beer-battered texture. Everything came out hot and satisfying. Overall, a great spot for comfort food with genuinely friendly service. Definitely planning to come back -- especially for the biscuits and gravy next time.
