I've been here many times, but there is only one reason why I keep coming back - the grilled green bean sandwich (or grilled asparagus sandwich depending on the season). I never thought I could love a sandwich this much! Takes a very long time to get what you ordered, people are not concerned about being too friendly... ordered soup to-go during the dead of the day and it took 10-15 minutes to get my small cup of soup and not so friendly looks from the staff. The price is high for sandwiches, but the ingredients are fresh which explains the price. Interior is very Portland vibes and cool. Overall, the food tastes great (breakfast burrito is awesome), but the long wait and the personal interaction is the reason I am giving this a 2 star. read more

For me, it's all about the food. I don't care about the drinks or sodas they serve, the atmosphere, etc. Just give me good food. Service has to be reasonable, though. Went and had the B.L.B., spicy beef sandwich, and the flank steak salad. Overall, they were OK sandwiches and salad, but nothing that was really outstanding. I think the biggest disappointment was the spicy beef sandwich. It wasn't spicy. Not at all. Not even a bit of tanginess. $30 dollars (including tip) for 2 for lunch at a sandwich place. I read about the Maple sandwich last summer, and have been dreaming ever since. I finally had an opportunity to try it, and it was VERY delicious. Almost too much for one person (like most of their sandwiches.) The wife had a salad, and it was pretty good, but not amazing. Overall, I'd call this a 4.5/5, but will have to try something else to see if I can bump it up a bit. read more

delicious!!! As soon as i moved to portland i was on a hunt to find one of my all time favorite things to eat, sandwiches or "sammy's" as l like to call them. So far Meat Cheese Bread has been my holy grail find to this search, providing me with an almost child like sense of joy every time i take a bite of one of their Sammy's. I highly recommend giving the green bean sandwich a try, perfectly grilled green beans topped with a bacon relish, soft boiled eggs, thin sliced parmesan cheese, and a wonderful aioli. Now i could go on for days about the rest of there sammy's but i feel it would just be best for you do be the judge so here is the basics you need to know.. Delicious hand crafted sandwiches, heavy use of bacon!, decedent sweets like varying bread puddings and homemade cookies, super friendly awesome staff, and just an all around relaxing place to enjoy a sandwich. The flank steak with blue cheese aioli sandwich is the best sandwich ever! The steak was cooked perfectly and the marinated onions were a great addition. Also once had the turkey sandwich which was also delicious. Stopped for breakfast, and tried the breakfast burrito. It was good, a nice chewy tortilla, but not as great as a lunch sandwich. this place is definitely one to check out! read more

Wow. Just Wow. Had the Park Kitchen flank steak sandwich and it was a serious amount of meat with serious good juicy stuff. The bleu cheese was a bit too chunky, but really, do I care? Would be 5 stars with a slightly bigger/prettier space. Seriously great value at $7.95 for that monster sandwich. Great selection of bottled craft sodas. This is one of the best, most creative sandwiches in Portland. Doesn't matter if you are a carnivore, this is a must experience sandwich! Sure, you could go to Laurelhust Market, Olympic Provisions, Bunk, Lardo and who could blame you? They are all delicious options, BUT, YOU MUST TRY THIS SANDWICH! We live in Lake Oswego and regularly make the 30 minute drive across town just for this sandwich. Yep, one hour round trip for a sandwich, it's that good! read more

I ordered the pulled, very mediocre, not bad, but nothing special. The pork was very bland, the bread was too soaked with liquid to be able to pick up. Bummer experience! Today my husband and I went to Meat Cheese Bread for the first time. We love a good sandwich, and decided to try it out based on other reviews plus the online menu sounded great. Boy where we disappointed! The guy at the front counter was not friendly at all. Maybe he was having a bad day, who knows. However, my big problem was with the quality of our sandwiches. We both ordered BLT's expecting to receive a kick-ass sandwiches. They were nasty to say the least. It was so greasy and fatty that mine was completely inedible. It literally dripped a ton of grease. The food appeared to be made with no love at all and just kinda slopped together. Aside from the bacon not being blotted from excess grease, there was a very meager amount of lettuce and tomato, and the lettuce was soggy and wilted from being put directly on the greasy hot bacon. Gross! Normally we will try a restaurant twice before making a verdict as to whether or not we'll add it to a place that we frequent, but this was bad enough that we will not be going back. We ended up at this place after hitting about 4-5 other restaurants in the area that didn't open until 5pm (we were around at 2 for a late lunch). The music was loud and not a lot of people were around which makes sense at our off-time arrival. I will first say that the food was very delicious. We both ordered the turkey sandwich. My friend got hers on the gluten-free bread and I got mine as a salad. Very yummy. But, and I mean but, the service was absolutely terrible, mostly from the guy that took our order. You could tell he did not want us walking in when we did and was very short and rude to us. Every time we asked him a question on the menu, he would respond with a quick and obvious annoyed tone 'nope' or 'yep.' I believe my friend stated after being surprised at his unprofessional-ism "wow, you just know every little thing about the menu, don't you?" to which he replied "sure do." No smiles, no extra questions or information to the what the place was all about, etc. I can't say that either of us will be going here again which is quite sad because I do believe this is a place I would have wanted to suggest and bring my friends and family. I am also extra bummed after reading the other reviews about how great their service was and how they knew about all these amazing things about the place that we didn't get to learn about because the guy was obviously did not want to be there and did not want us there either. I know people have bad days but really, put your big boy panties on for 2 minutes while you take our order and be a dude/gentleman/professional. read more
