Just moved close to Jasmines so my husband and I stopped in to grab breakfast. I initially wanted to grab breakfast tacos but after scanning the menu, I got the Huevos Motuleños and was so happy I did. Had little bit of everything -- eggs, beans, potatoes, ham salsa, and avocado. My husband got the breakfast burrito and it was great!! Looking forward to coming back for dinner soon.

My friend suggested I go to Jasmine's for lunch with her as it's one of her favorite restaurants. I had never known about it before our visit. What a fantastic gem! The exterior facade is kindof unassuming but don't be fooled! Upon entry it's a quaint (though not really too small at all) cafe'-style restaurant that actually reminded me of being in Mexico. The Austin-area has so many great food places but it's nice to go to a place that's truly more for locals. The service was impeccable. Friendly and attentive without being overbearing at all. Think about visiting one your fave friends in high school who had a mom that could cook and went all out for visitors. That's what this place is! I had a frozen strawberry marg (small) rimmed with salt and it packed a punch! Two of them or a large one and I'd definitely be buzzed up. The special of the day was an enchiladas platter (cheese, beef, or chicken). I opted for cheese. They were so good and packed with gooey cheese I couldn't stop eating them. I swear I inhaled two enchiladas in one breath. No joke. The made from scratch tortillas were on point. I opted for no beans (not a huge fan). The rice was perfectly seasoned and I pretty much inhaled it as well. The food is so yummy and filling. In fact, it was my lunch on Friday and I didn't eat again until dinner on Saturday. Not even kidding, that's how full I was. Talk about getting a bang for your buck. I say run don't walk to get here because when you're done eating, you'll be crawling out.

Amazing Food & Service by Pilar & Entire Team. Took My Food To Go And Thoroughly Enjoyed My Chicken & Pork Tamales.

Red pork tamales with some homemade salsa fresca.

Growing up in Chicago we always had great tamales for Christmas. We'd go to the west side of the city and in the kitchen of a rickety three-flat there was a group of abuelas busy making dozens of them. Señora Gutierrez made the best, red chile with properly shredded pork (not chunks) covered in a very thin masa and wrapped in a corn husk. I asked for a recommendation to find great tamales in Austin and I was told by a couple folks to give Jasmines near the airport a try. I stopped in and picked up a dozen of the pork tamales to take home. The staff was very nice and I was on my way shortly with the tamales. Initially, these looked like the real deal, properly ensconced in the traditional corn husk and having a beautiful golden colored masa. My happiness was short-lived unfortunately as I tucked into my first tamale. Although the seasoning was spot-on, the pork was cut into chunks. In my opinion, the pork needs to be cooked to a level of tenderness so that it is easily shredded for the tamale. In addition, the masa was a bit thick (not too bad) and it was a little dry and crumbly. Masa should never crack apart, and should be a smooth and moist texture. Frankly, I've had better tamales from H-E-B so this was a huge disappointment for me. Thus, for me the search continues for some good homemade quality tamales in Austin.

Yelped spots for enchiladas and this place came up. 5 stars for the concept of carne guisada enchiladas - mind blown. Lol. The meat was super tender, refried beans seasoned well, and rice was fluffy. We also ordered a la carte items - fajita taco, crispy taco, and chicken enchilada with chile con carne sauce. All seasoned very well. Service was so friendly and fast - we were in and out in 30 minutes. This is classic Tex-Mex done well. I bet their choriqueso is delicious. Only things we might have taken like half a star off for was my partner wished the guisada enchilada plate came with lettuce and tomato, and I wish the crispy taco shell had felt more homemade. All in all, great place and we will def be back when we're craving good ol Tex-Mex.

Carne Asada, ribeye that was dry

We're in town for an event and chose this location since it was close to a venue we're going to and some of the reviews really enjoyed this place. It has the vibe of being a casual spot for a meal and a margarita. We both got unsweetened iced tea and it had a weird coffee flavor for it. It looks like the tea is brewed in a coffee pot and poured into the dispenser. We let our server know, and they were kind enough to remake the tea for us. This tasted right the second time around. I ordered the carne asada and was pretty excited it was a 10oz ribeye, but was surprised at how overcooked and dry it was. The flavor was there but it wasn't coming through as if it were marinated over time. The steak was also cut crosswise which means it never had a chance to rest and keep the juices in. At this point I'm eating more for fuel than enjoyment. My partner got the chicken flautas and said the chicken was dry and the meal was so so. This was a flop for us, but I imagine the other items might be alright.

We recently stopped by Jasmine's after picking up someone from the airport.  The restaurant is right across the highway from the airport.  It truly is a diamond in the rough, so don't let the outside of the building fool you!  LOL  The staff was very friendly, the service was excellent.  Attentive, but not intrusive.  We started with house margaritas, which were very good.  The gratis chips and salsa were also good, chips crispy, salsa very fresh and not too hot!  We also shared a bowl of the chili con queso dip, which was a simple preparation, and on point!  Delicious! As far as other menu items, we tried the tortilla soup, menudo and chicken chili rellenos.  All dishes were seasoned well, and served hot.  The tortilla soup and chili relleno were especially good. Glad we stopped by.  It's an easy stop when headed to or from the airport.  We'll be back!

It is expensive; however, their portions are the value. You won't leave this place thinking it was expensive and not worth it. Again, the food was worth every dollar spent. Lemonade was fresh and free refills. This was a plus for us because we are used to being charged for each refill with competitors in the Austin area. Boy do I wish it had been a drinking day when I was at Mezcal and Salt!…read more * * * Mezcal and Salt is a nicely furnished midscale Mexican restaurant on Montopolis Drive. The clientele is working class but the room feels middle class all the way. By day the place gets tons of sunlight making it a cheery happy place. By night, there are colorful neon lights to keep the festive spirit alive. * * * The house specialty is Mezcal cocktails. They make no fewer than 10 of them. I have not seen any of these in any list of house drinks I have ever seen. Even though the establishment is called Mezcal and Salt, They only stock three kinds of Mezcal. I will make two ignorant guesses: a) Those three Mezcals are chosen because they have different tastes. The house cocktails use each of the three for specific purposes in making specific drinks. b) Those house Mezcal drinks are probably wonderful. The waitress bubbled enthusiastically about one of her favorites. I don't think she was giving a canned sales spiel. I think she meant it and she loves the drink. * * * There would be no reason for waitresses at Mezcal and Salt to ever need to give canned sales spiels. The establishment draws large crowds. At 3:30 pm on a Sunday towards the end of the Almeurzo del Domingo rush, there were still plenty of people in the restaurant. More importantly, new customers kept coming in. There is a giant vacant lot next to the restaurant with signs marking the lot as extra parking. A restaurant only buys a next door lot for parking if they really need it. * * * I was food only that day. What I had was a mix - but a mix that was good enough to make it easily worthwhile to come back. My chips and salsa were perfectly adequate but no great shakes. My ceviche tostada started as being no great shakes. But they had lime and bottled Salsa Victoria on the table. They had the lime and Salsa Victoria on the table for a reason. Once you put lime and Salsa Victoria on the tostada The tostada went from ho hum to great eating. I went from bored to in love. You don't blame a Southern restaurant for putting salt and pepper on your table and serving you under-salted food. You put on your own salt and pepper and then everything is perfect. The same applies with lime and Salsa Victoria here. It is part of the kitchen's plan. * * * I totally want to come back on an occasion when I can dig into those Mezcal drinks. Since I would have a long drive home, The rest of the plan would be eating my way through a decent chunk of their menu. * * * Any place that needs two parking lots to hold all their customers has to be taken seriously.

And with that said, this was honestly the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. Taqueria El Compa was so good, I had to order twice. The first thing I tried was the agua de Jamaica, and you could immediately tell it was made from scratch. It was fresh, flavorful, not overly sweet, and the portion was generous. The cup was huge, about half a liter, and it was exactly what I needed after coming from the airport starving. For tacos, I first ordered three: chicken, beef, and carne asada. They were served on corn tortillas, not flour, and everything tasted fresh and homemade. They came topped with avocado, white onion, cilantro, and cucumber on the side, and every bite was delicious. The meat portions were generous, and the flavors were incredible. The green sauce was amazing, and the red sauce had real heat, so be careful if you're sensitive to spice. It was so good that I went back and ordered three more tacos. That says everything. The prices were also very fair. My first order, three tacos plus the agua de Jamaica, was only $16. My second order, three more tacos, was $12. For the quality, freshness, and portion size, I thought it was absolutely worth it. What made the experience even better was the service. I had almost finished my drink and asked if they could add a little more ice to my cup. Not only did she add ice, she added more agua de Jamaica too and didn't charge me anything extra. That kind of care means a lot. It felt like eating at a family member's house, where they genuinely want you to enjoy your food and leave happy. This place is clearly loved for a reason. While I was there, several people came in to order, mostly for takeout, so it definitely stays busy. I only found it because it was about 3 miles from the airport and had great reviews, and now I completely understand why. If I could give this place 100 stars, I would. The food was outstanding, the service was kind and generous, and the whole experience felt special. If I ever come back to Austin, I will absolutely return.

My previous review was of my experience eating their breakfast tacos at a catered event, but this time I came to dine in with my friends. The service was very slow. Our food came in a reasonable time, but the servers just took so long every time to come over. Also, they were very insistent that everyone in our party be present to be seated. They led us to a back room that had a lot of empty tables, so we were baffled by how strict they were. I got the Don Juan El Taco Grande, which is a huge breakfast taco. The server recommended getting two extra tortillas, and I'm glad I did because you could fill all three tortillas and more. After tax and tip, my portion ended up being $12. It was an average breakfast taco, and the tortillas were a little bit hard.

Best meal of the Austin trip: upscale tacos and housemade masa in a welcoming space…read more Food: 5 Service: 4.5 Atmosphere: 5 Cost to worth it rating: 3 Opentableable: yes Return worthiness: yes Highlights: - Waitress Kelly was wonderful and so professional. She noticed I was ordering dairy items on side and asked about if pesto in guacamole was ok. So astute and kind of her. Also on my friends second drink remembered she didn't want salt or her rim without even asking - Everything tasted so fresh and high quality - Brisket tacos: packed with flavor--maybe it was the wagyu meat or the black magic oil. Freshly made corn tortillas were awesome. Usually corn ones and pretty throwaway meh, but these added to the greatness of the tacos. 5 stars - Duck flautas: crispy covered in mild mole. Loved the mashed potato addition inside for some mellowness and texture. 5 stars - Guacamole: so fresh and that dollop of pesto on top was lovely. Served with crispy masa dippers were impressive almost a 8x11 page size. It was fun to crack off into pieces, but hard to stop eating it. 5 stars - Sweet potato: friend loved these long charred wedges. 4.5 stars - Cocktails were stellar. I got the Don Dario which was a play on a marg and delightful - $12 of a few drinks during lucky hour (Mon-Fri 5-6pm, Sat-Sun 3-5pm) - High energy vibes in a clean, open, tan colored space - Had their bottle water on the table in a champagne bottle which speaks to my heart Midlights: - In East Austin so have to Uber if you are staying more central - Tacos come in orders of 4. Wish it was less so we could've tried more variety. Lowlights - No food discounts for lucky hour - Didn't have time to try the choco taco which looked amaze - Large gap of time between items first few items coming out and the rest
