By far the best cafe on Stanford Campus! The Good - Great selection of food (Parfait and breakfast food in the morning, salads, and sushi rolls, soup and hot food for lunch. They are also doing Summer BBQ specials where you get two entrees, a beverage and dessert for a fixed price) - Delicious food (I've tried their breakfast, hot lunches, soup and boxed salads. Everything was delicious and much better than what you would expect from a college café and A LOT better than the dining halls.) - Limited edition Starbucks menu (they have limited Starbucks beverages available, anything from coffee to white chocolate mocha and iced tea. A great place for a quick pick-me-up) - Different menu every week (They post the hot food menu on FB every week. They are always doing something new) - Friendly and quick service (All the staffs are super friendly. They are pretty fast at making drinks as well) - Outdoor Seating (although the outdoor seating do fill up pretty quickly during lunch time.) - Very reasonably priced (I love their Salmon salad, which is only $6.75. You can get a salad and a bowl of soup for under $10.) The Bad - Crowded during lunch time (everybody from the building come here for lunch, so it's really busy from noon-1pm. I got an americano with the goal to stay fully alert during a pretty energy-intensive potentially overdramatic meeting. I felt incredibly sleepy during the meeting and increasingly more and more sleepy until gym time when I was too tired and did not do anything even remotely close to my original workout intensity. read more

Unfortunately, this cafe has been going downhill for some time now. Back in 2016, they used to offer better tasting food and were more innovative in their daily menu selections. They also used to charge less. So cheaper food and better quality. During summer 2016, they will have a BBQ special almost weekly where you would pay $12 and you get BBQ meat with fruits, sides, chips, and soda. They don't do that anymore. It's almost as if management has changed and they gotten lazy. This is very disappointing since I remember when they were good. Anyhow, I still come here during the days they have salmon. If I'm in the mood for some coffee, this is a great place to stop by. They have a good selection of bake goods as well and a stocked "lunch" section with sandwiches, yogurt, and sushi. There's also hot food items that look really yummy, but super expensive. I really want to try their curry, but they sell it by the ounce which makes your meal to be around $8-10 for a smal box. If you're looking for a hot lunch I suggest going to Nexus because you're get more for your dollar. read more

So the Med Cafe offers Starbucks brewer coffee. What's nice is it's just not exclusive to Stanford Staff or Students. The barista was extremely friendly and when I asked for one of my Starbucks fav, iced Carmel macchiato and today since I feel brave, low on sleep, midterms and have a 10 hour shift ahead of me I asked for total of 5 shots. He asked if I was a post-doc; I wish, but informed him I was attending school and it's midterm week. Say no more! He even gave me a a grande cup with just ice. Coffee is strong just like I need it and perfect. I will admit I used the additional ice in my water cup, but the gesture was not over looked. Items that I have tried: --I prefer the taste and price of their pizza's over Nexus Cafe's; it is $2 a slice here (vs $4 @ Nexus) and not as greasy! --Stay away from their scones, the texture is awful. --I love their danishes especially the blueberry cheese! The blueberry cheese danish is a guilty treat and not a light snack! It's like having a large slice of blueberry cheesecake and only for $2! --Their coffee is okay, you're better off going to Peet's or even the Beckman downstair's bistro. --The hot foods that they sell for by the ounce are not worth trying! The coffee is fine, but the one time I ordered tea the hot water seemed like it came from a coffee carafe. No amount of steeping tea can cover the flavor of old, burnt coffee. Another time I was in a hurry, so ordered a drip coffee. The cashier said they were making it and it would be a few minutes. She said I could have an americano for the same price, which seemed reasonable. Great easy spot to hit up on Stanford campus. Has a selection of a small hot food area with a variety of soups and other tasty items. Fruit/ snacks/ sandwhiches/ chips, etc round out the rest of the food selection. Have a full coffee barista setup there as well and the coffee drinks are really good. They have a selection of Starbucks drip (brewed) coffee as well which makes for a good morning pick me up! This place is supposed to offer Starbucks drinks, albeit with a truncated menu, but alas, they do not take Starbucks cards, which is really annoying. They do however, have their own little stamp card for regular customers. If you manage to collect 10 stamps, your 11th drink is free. Usually they're pretty nice about that and encourage you to size-up for your free drink. The breakfast food is not bad, though if you waltz in at 10am expecting there to still be food, good luck. My best characterization of the lunch food = mush. It's not terrible, and sometimes can be halfway decent, but it doesn't LOOK appetizing, which is kind of a turnoff. Also, they charge by weight, and I still have not figured out how much they charge per ounce. Woops. Pizza by the slice is cheaper here than at Nexus, though. The people who work here are usually pretty nice unless they have a ton of customers in line, in which case they start to get stressed out and can be kind of curt. tl;dr: Nice place for a coffee break, but would probably avoid the food. read more

They give away free food on Friday evenings!! I don't know if they do this anymore but they did for the first few months since they apparently tend to over-order and they need to give away all the food over the weekend. Convenient location for food and coffee. I like their yogurt parfaits or Greek yogurt for breakfast. Prepackaged sandwiches and sushi are very meh. Can't go wrong with a salad. My favourite food place on Stanford's campus, by far! This cafeteria serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as Starbucks teas and coffees and a selection of baked goods. Their hot food menu varies daily with one carnivorous and one vegetarian main dish, which you can buy by weight. Lunch and dinner are the same items each day. The prices are competitive with other campus eateries, but because the food is cooked in smaller batches it is usually /much/ fresher and a lot tastier. The people who work here are friendly and make an effort to get to know their customers and understand what the customers want. There can be long lines around lunchtime and at peak "coffee-drinking hours", so one does sometimes need to be patient when coming here. If you're on campus and close to the School of Medicine, definitely worth checking this place out! read more

For the same price I'd pay for a bowl of soup at Clark Center, I can have a satisfying lunch or dinner of rice, tofu and veggies. This was the first place I went to for lunch because it was close to where I was stationed. The staff is very friendly (I mean it, the best staff ever!) and the food and drinks are very reasonable. There's also plenty of place to sit around both indoors and outdoors. Love it! read more

I got the baked salmon. It was not salty so I was happy about it. The staff was nice, too. However, I didn't like their Starbucks coffee because it didn't taste the same as the coffee at an independent Starbucks store. The espresso was noticeably sour. If you are getting a sugary drink, it won't matter because the syrup will cover up the bad taste. Also, I ordered my drink the same way I do at another Starbucks. Espresso in a bigger cup for space for milk or water depending on the bitterness. The cashier was telling her co-worker that customers can't tell them what to do with their drinks in Spanish and English. Maybe she was training him, but it was not nice because I was standing right there waiting for my drink. You will lose customers if you keep doing that. read more

I'm not much of a coffee drinker so I can't review the coffee here. My guess is that it's probably good as any other place. The food is here is fit for consumption. They don't have the best of selections but it's different because they change their selection everyday. You serve yourself from a buffet style food burner so the food sits out for a while but it's not bad. It can get a bit pricey because they charge you by the ounce. If you want to go the cheap route they sell slices of pizza, which is reasonable. They also have prepackaged sandwiches and salads but I think they are overpriced in my opinion. This is a terrific cafe. I am a vegan and this cafe always has many vegetarian and vegan options (as well as meat and fish options). Yesterday for lunch I had their spinach soup (delicious) and their lima bean tofu entre that was also fabulous (the tofu was served in a meat-like form in a delicious sauce). In all honesty this lunch was way better than the vegan food I have had at one of San Francisco's best vegan restaurants. Highly recommend this cafe.
