Backyard Brew is a really fun and unique little spot. You kind of feel like you're finding a secret coffee shop. You have to go through an alleyway to get to it. Once you're there, you'll find a cute coffee shop that has some nice flavored lattes and some solid choices for food. Definitely recommend it if you're in the area.

the sign I needed since I sometimes get lost lol

Such a cute spot! This is an outdoor place, and they do have a couple menus when you go in. Service was fast and I ordered a nutella mocha with oat milk, my friend ordered a pistachio baklava latte. We also ordered the avocado toast, and it was decent. The presentation was nice though. Only downfall is they provide you with 2 different receipt numbers, one for your beverage and the other for food, so it does get a little confusing.

Double espresso & oat milk macchiato

I got a double espresso and an oat milk macchiato and both were good. I was glad they served them in glasses. The espresso is strong, acidic (a little more than I would prefer, but good if you like that), and smooth. Well dialed in. Macchiato was well made. Would try almond milk next time to see if it better compliments the espresso they use. Would definitely come back to try their Turkish coffee, cortado, and pour over.

I stopped by for a cup of coffee as I was in the area. I remember trying to come here before in the past, but probably couldn't find it due to its somewhat "hidden" location. Anyway I saw a sign for it today and turned in next to Terun. I ordered a cappuccino (my go-to order everywhere) and it was delicious! Shortly after ordering, a crowd of people showed up. They have some seating in the patio area as well.

The entrance is wedged between two buildings.

Pour over coffee: Ethiopian beans: 5 Service: 5 Ambiance: 5 Pastry: Almond Fluff: 3.5 Environmentally Friendly: 3.5 This is a great spot that I come to whenever I am in the area and needing a good cup of coffee. The service is always amicable and efficient, and the coffee (I regularly do a pour over or the golden latte) hits the mark. The atmosphere is a great mix of eclectic & natural, and they always have some good tunes playing. There are plenty of spots to sit and chill, or work if that is your vibe. The pastries I've had are ok.. not great, and I normally go down the street for a bagel if I'm really wanting something to eat. I added the environmental score because I am noticing more and more places that do not offer any reusable mugs (when I forget to bring my own). I normally order an espresso but there are places where I won't because they put it in a cardboard, often waxed) cup.

    Lots of seating

Such a cozy outdoor cafe! I've come here twice on Sundays around 6 or 7 PM and never have an issue finding a table. There are quite a number of people working or studying, and they do have free wifi (not sure if they have outlets though). The front entrance is located right next to Terun and is this cool alleyway with murals. You can also enter from the back, which connects to the street next to the parking garage but it's not as cool. The service here is good. The people working here are friendly and inviting. I've gotten the Nutella Mocha, which is a bit heavier but is to be expected with the Nutella. Creamy and rich but still can taste the coffee. I've also gotten the Banana Bread Latte, which was strong in cinnamon taste. Didn't really remind me of banana bread but it was still good if you like cinnamon. I also got a Parmesan and Leek Pastry and my partner got a Pain Au Chocolat. The pastries felt a bit dry and stale and not the freshest. Maybe it's because I came so late in the evening. All in all, I will be coming back here since it's such a nice spot to get some work done or read. I will probably stick to the drinks moreso than food though.

Warning: They use cardboard straws. Everything else 5 star. The service was fast. We ordered the Banana Bread Latte & the Oh Canada Iced. The drinks were very pleasant at perfect temp and taste. The wait time for the order was about 10 minutes which is surprisingly fast for the quality of the drink along with how crowded it is. There are only 3 guys doing the job of about 5. The atmosphere is quiet with the sounds of a fountain and smooth jazz.

Backyard Brew is in a word amazing! I love that they have many options and you can even customize your drink. Their list of flavors, most if not all organic and natural extracts, make for some of the best iced lattes I've ever had. Besides their tasty offerings of food, coffee and new addition to the menu delicious mocktails, Backyard Brew is family owned and operated by some of the most wonderful personalities and kind dispositions I've encountered. Not only are they welcoming and inclusive of all, they literally go out of their way to acknowledge, inquire, and connect with each and every customer. I highly recommened you come see all this place has to offer!

I've had this place bookmarked to check out and finally was down the street to check it out. Walked through the hallway and found the menu right before you enter. It was late in the afternoon so opted for a Chai to not be overly caffeinated LOL. Ordering was a breeze and had to use the restroom that was off to the side while I waited. I could smell coffee beans roasting and when I walked out I saw a man roasting coffee beans. Got to talking with one of the barista about the business what's popular and where to park (right behind the building). The chai was fine. Nothing out of this world. Cool space. Plenty of tables and chairs to sit. Space can feel crowded when busy. Menu visible to pick what to order ahead of time. Will need to come back and try their latte to have a better idea of the coffee here.

Top drink (oh Canada!) bottom drink (orange crush. Do not be afraid to try something different!! )

Very welcoming and great drinks!!! We wanted a coffee and wanted something new. We didn't know what to expect but immediately felt welcomed and in love with the spot. If you want a cute even quick spot try this!! Worth every penny spent

Came by for coffee the other day and it was a decent experience. Backyard Brew is tucked away and is accessed via an alley off of California Ave. The coffee shop itself has plenty of tables to hang out along with pastries for sale. Ordered a nutella mocha and it came out tasty. Temperature of the latte was perfect and the espresso was smooth. The foam on top was great too! $6 for a nutella mocha. They take credit cards too!

Loved the latte. I like that there's lots of ways to specialize your drink from the spices, to different type of sweeteners and extracts. There are so many drinks I wanted to try so I'll for sure need to come back. The avocado toast was ok. I did like the zataar on it. I like the backyard vibe. There's a closed off area where you can see staff roast the coffee beans. Service is good. They bring the food out to you. However you do wait for your drink to be called, which I don't mind.

Backyard Brews is a hidden gem in the alleys right off of California Ave. The road has been secured for al dente dining, so the road to get here IS somewhat closed to the public -- however, DO NOT FEAR! This coffee shop is bustling and is quite outdoors like no other. The serene sound of the fountains and the hustle and bustle of local businesses bring buzz and light to this hidden gem. I love how it despite being outdoors, they still worked hard to make the best banana bread latte and croissant. Despite it being a little small, it didn't really matter much because the coffee beans that they used were quite "arabica".... with really strong coffee smell. It gives a sense of community, and the coffee shop wasn't too crowded at all. Kids were coming in and out with their families and it just makes sense to me that they did open an outdoor coffee shop like Backyard Brew did. Locally owned businesses for the win!

I really appreciate the selection of drinks they have, ranging from fun flavored lattes like tiramisu and burnt brown sugar to matchas, hojichas, and classic cafe staples like americanos and flat whites. Everything I've had here has been delicious and always hits the spot. They also have a range of food and toasts you can order. I recently got the ricotta and honey toast, which was delicious and light! Heads up, though, as expected, they do run low on stock later in the day. I came around 2 PM, and there were maybe four baked goods left. Overall, it's a great choice, and if you're in the area, definitely check them out.

You pay about 8 dollars for a drink or soft serve, and if you ask for light ice they still pack it with ice and honestly you get hardly any drink, secondly lately the lady that made my cone the last few times likes to do a big circle and leave a big hole in the soft serve which also now leaves you with less / hardly any ice cream for your money. Most importantly I had the worst customer service from her this last visit. It was so bad another lady waiting for her items asked for her name and told her the same things I was saying. I have to say the day I went in, the young lady working the register was very sweet and helpful. Hats off to her for knowing what customer service is. Most importantly, the older lady working drinks and the soft serve machine about 1:30 ish ( name might be vaung? Didn't hear after when I walked away) today was rude as all can be and so unprofessional!!! Her alone makes me not want to go back. I ordered 2 drinks and a soft serve. My order was called out. when I went to retrieve it, It was missing the soft serve and the one drink didn't have the soft serve in it either. I told her my order is missing two things and she yells out this is order 2. I said it's wrong and she pushes the drinks towards me. I explained again what's wrong and she proceeded to help someone else. Comes back and says this is your order. I pull out my receipt and say there's no soft serve cone or soft serve in the drink, and may I please have a bag for the drinks. She goes to make my cone finally, gives me my cone and again I have to say there's no soft serve in the drink. She looks at the drink like I'm lying and then inspected the drink to see if there was any. smh ... literally looks at the drink and starts shaking it to see if there's any. Then finally does go to take care of it. She comes back with it. I asked for a bag again and then she says I need to charge you. Mind you, i'm holding the cone in one hand and the two drinks in my other arm against my chest . Whether or not you're supposed to charge is beyond the point it's the fact that she never apologized. It took more than once to get this right and then you're gonna make me go pay for a bag separately when my hands are full with two drinks and an ice cream cone on top of it. It was the way she handled it all. She was rude!!!! On top of it, then another lady actually proceeded to complain about her because she was rude to her as well, and she laughed at us, like it was okay for her to be rude or whatever we're saying was a joke. Worst customer service I've ever had in there and I felt this is something that should be mentioned. on top of it lastly she left a nice big hole in the middle of my cone so I barely got any ice cream. Might not care because I'm just one person, but they just lost a customer. Maybe two from what I saw today. Do better!! With all the other business around if someone is choosing to come in to your establishment, they should not be treated rude. Looking at some of the other reviews as well, I see the ice thing and bag thing has been repeated. If you know someone's order multiple things and you see they are alone. Maybe ask will you need a bag before hand. Not when they have everything handed to them and then say I need to charge you. I tried to call the management to bring this to them first and there's no answer on the phone or the email I sent over. Maybe they don't care either.
