Oklava Cafe is hands down my favorite place in all of Palo Alto. The food, treats, and drinks are unique, thoughtful, and genuinely incredible. Every detail feels intentional and welcoming. As incredible as the food and drinks are, what makes Oklava feel truly special is the staff and the energy of the space. There's nothing else like it in town. Guests recognize the staff, the staff recognize guests, and the whole place radiates with this rare sense of community that is hard to find. Indoors or outdoors, the space feels intimate, cozy, and alive. I can't tell you how many times I've come in to get hours of work done, only to end up taking a break, meeting someone new, or just watching other people connect in the same way. They offer a wide selection of Turkish pastries and desserts, from which I tried the pistachio baklava and the pistachio kataifi. Both were fresh, though a little sweeter than my personal preference. But I felt that all Turkish desserts are traditionally quite sweet, so it's just authentic. Stumbled upon this cute cafe while looking for a post-dinner coffee. They have a bright and welcoming vibe with a variety of Turkish sweets. The service was prompt and friendly, they explained the types of baklava and answered our questions as we made our selections. This is just from my personal experience, but the baklava was extremely sweet. Most, if not all, of the pieces I ordered felt as if they were dripping in honey and every bite felt wet. I do gravitate more towards the walnut baklava but I couldn't eat one whole piece without water. If I were to come back, I'd probably grab an espresso to balance out the sweetness. I loved everything the Turkish breakfast had to offer (although the cheese is on the sharper side and not my usual preference) and the honey and kaymak was my FAVORITE. Came here for Sunday brunch because I wanted to try their Turkish breakfast, and it did not disappoint. Beautifully presented -- sesame bread, a boiled egg, and small portions of everything from cheese to olives to spreads. Delightful Turkish cafe in the heart of downtown Palo Alto! I was originally just planning on popping my head in for a quick caffeine pick-me-up before heading to a library to work, but I loved the vibes (and treats) at Oklava so much that I ended up staying almost the whole day. I started off with an americano and slice of their triangle baklava, which were both fantastic. The coffee was rich and nutty, with just the right level of brightness. It went perfectly with the sweet, decadent baklava, which had beautiful layers and all the right balances of textures and flavors. It was certainly a sweet treat but not overly so -- I've definitely had a few baklava that felt almost sickly sweet, but this one was perfectly balanced. They have a wide array of different types of baklava in different shapes / styles or using different nuts, so I'll definitely have to come back to try the rest! I was feeling a bit peckish later that afternoon (as delicious as baklava is, it doesn't quite count as lunch) and ordered their spinach spiral bourek. It was outstanding -- super flaky and buttery, with a generous helping of flavorful sautéed spinach. It was especially tasty after they heated it up, and it was the perfect mid-day savory treat. Beyond the food, the staff is super friendly and accommodating. They won't even *let* you pick up your own food / drink and are very adamant about delivering it to you. They're extremely knowledgeable and willing to answer any and all questions, and all around very sweet. The space is also lovely; there's plenty of seating, speedy Wifi, and cute although relatively simple decor. It can get quite crowded and loud in the afternoon, but it was pretty empty in the mid / late-morning period; if you want to settle in for a long time, I'd recommend getting there earlier rather than later. read more

Small and cute cafe that's perfect for small groups. They have a large selection of baklavas beautifully laid out that gets your mouth watering. Don't forget to look at the display to the left of the counter because there seems to be some hidden gems there as well. As for the food, we tried the pistachio baklava, walnut baklava, pistachio Kataifi, and a chocolate piece. They serve their baklavas at room temperature and I inquired about heating it up but the servers explained that these are typically served at room temperature. Having tried a heated version before fresh out of the oven, I do have to say that the sugar and oil does settle to the bottom with these cold versions which may be a little too heavy for someone who's not used to these desserts. They're also not as crispy once they have cooled down but this is the perfect location if you prefer your baklavas at room temperature. The kataifi was not as crunchy as I expected probably because it was cold as well and they surprisingly put ginger in it which was interesting for us to try. Overall, I think I would be back to try some of their other desserts including their milky series. read more

I ultimately decided on the pistachio baklava, muska with pistachio, and the kataifi with pistachio. All were super good but the pistachio was on the border of being too sweet for me (but nothing a good cup of coffee or tea couldn't fix!). We ended up with the following: Palace baklava with pistachio: this was our favorite of the four items. Super flaky layers. Burma kadayif: looks like intricate layers of a bird nest, enveloping honey sweet layers. A bit on the sweet side and very dense. We also got a dessert that had walnuts in it but was a bit on the heavy side because of the nuts and a green topped one known as kataifi.
