update, now a solid 1 star review. after a 4+ hour long outage on 10/16, there was a 14+ hour long outage that affected hundreds if not thousands of subscribers on the northshore of Clearlake. this means people cant even call 911!! i got 2 different stories when I called into customer care, one saying maintenance one saying a fiber cut. what would remedy this? provide fail over modems. harden your network. stop putting cheap bandaids on repairs. improve your ability to repair all of your network. segment your network so outages are less impactful. work with local agencies to get Nixle notifications out to affected phone users. hold people accountable for failure to resolve network outages. lastly, i would like to see your advertised reliability metrics posted for review. i ended up buying internet service from another company and will reduce my MediaCom plan to the lowest/cheapest rate available until MediaCom can prove they're reliable. read more

Terrible billing practices! I paid on time every month for 4 years. When I cancelled they tried to bill me for an extra month and then, even though I had called and cancelled in Feb and returned all their equipment they tried to charge me till March 16th because that's how long it took them to come out to our service box to disconnect. I called twice, was told the charge was removed, only to have it keep appearing. Luckily I had removed my autopay so they couldn't just take the money. I wish i could give ZERO stars. MEDIACOM recently updated the software on a node in our area, and ever since, the internet has been virtually non-existent. For three straight weeks, people in our town have been calling and complaining, but support has been unhelpful and dismissive, constantly blaming us for the issues. They claim it's because we aren't using their hardware and repeatedly ask us to restart the modem. Every time you contact them, they try to get rid of you by scheduling a technician visit for a week later, and the same frustrating cycle repeats with each call or message. There's no ticketing system to file or track complaints, so every interaction is with a different support agent, forcing you to go through the same questions and explanations over and over again. It's driving customers crazy! They offer minimal account credits, and each agent seems to provide a different amount when asked for the total, as if they have no access to proper information. Despite calling from the registered phone number, they constantly ask to verify my identity, and some agents even dismiss the calls as if they don't believe me. For those who work from home, this unreliable service has seriously impacted our work. MEDIACOM needs to take responsibility, communicate more transparently, and post maintenance updates on their website before disrupting service. They should acknowledge outages instead of gaslighting their customers. This is by far the worst service provider I've ever used, and I've dealt with many in the Bay Area and beyond. One of their technicians actually explained the situation and advised not to restart the modems. He mentioned that when 800 people reset their routers after a service outage, caused by a botched update that blocks the 4th out of 4 channels and the 17th out of 17 channels, it generates 16,000 simultaneous requests for channel locks. This overloads the system and stalls it due to the sheer number of requests. So, the usual advice from support to restart routers and disconnect cables at home is actually making the situation worse. Even when the internet does work, it's still slow. We're paying for the highest speed plan, but we never actually get the speeds we're paying for, despite having the proper hardware that can handle it. If you have the option, you're better off going with another provider and avoiding these scammers. We're definitely canceling our service next week, once we receive the credit on our account. read more

Also expect tv signal to cut out every hour or so for several seconds - even when wifi is working on computers. With an office in my home, in an area with very poor cell reception I rely upon internet for all computer, phone and conference calls. As well, since dropping Direct TV at nearly $125 a month, we use the internet for entertainment, both television and music. We have used cable Mediacom for several years, our monthly bill averages $100 a month. over the past year, outages have been highly problematic. at first it was once or twice a day lasting a few minutes. Recently in the last few months it's been almost every hour of the day, from a few minutes to over half an hour. This has been totally unacceptable. Service calls made zero difference. We installed StarLink and it has proven to be 100% reliable. Purchasing everything we needed for StarLink cost just under $250. The monthly bill is $80. Couple that with Roku and a couple of premium subscriptions, our monthly is $125. Do yourself a huge favor. Go with StarLink. No more lapses in internet, no more dropped calls using WiFi on the cell phone and cut the cable. Get rid of the Direct TV, Roku has come a long way in providing content. Mediacom must improve their network if they plan to compete. We are saving about $135 a month by switching and dropping the Direct TV, plus its ugly dish. read more

We had mediacom at our motel for over 20 years and the company increased fees exuberantly, had horrible reliability for internet and cable, and ultimately turned off all our cable without notice and WITH our payment current. Update: after responding to the contact request from customer service I was able to get back online two days before the scheduled date. However, I will not be adding another star to my review. This company does not train their people correctly. I was given multiple answers to the same question and am not at all thrilled with their policies. I was told that my internet was switched off at the pole which is why a tech appointment was needed. The tech switched on my internet remotely but had to call to set up a network name and password for me and come by to ensure that I am actually online. This is a waste of the tech's time and the customer's to insist on this process for every setup. I was already connected to my network when he got here and showed him on my phone that my connection was live. Then, I logged into modem and changed my network name and password. So, internet is on and just as fast as ever but I don't think that a customer should ever have to go to these lengths to get a broken drop replaced. I was offered a way to bypass this insanity if my drop line gets damaged again and will definitely take them up on that. However, it should be standard practice that drop lines get replaced immediately whether or not the customer is home and able to make an appointment. read more

Every other day these last six months the internet goes out, T.V services went out for an entire day, I wonder if they'll compensate everyone ya right, they don't care about their customers at all if you try to talk to a real person they charge you $4 and then send you to someone in the Philippines that you can't effectively communicate with and all they do is type your question into a computer and read the answer if you go off script they just start back at the top of the page and re-read what they just read, they've been working on the lines for two months now, I'm in Hidden Valley and it seems they only have one line coming in so if they are working on the lines everyone is effected, I've now used all of my phone data because I work with the internet and have had to create a Hotspot with my phone, are they going to pay for my phone? The service is spotty. OK on the computer, ok on the phone, semi-functional on the TV. The big problem is the billing. They cashed my cheque last year for a certain amount, then kept billing me for it as overdue. I started deducting that amount from my bill, they kept demanding it. Now the initial offer is in second stage, more expensive, and peculiar charges appear. They take the money but do not deduct it from the bill: and then they put me into collection, and most recently sent me a letter threatening to come to my house. I know that Starlink is more expensive, and subject to weather: but would that charge make a difference? Oh, and Mediacom has no phone connection. You can call them to pay a bill through their robot, but they stopped having humans a long time ago. read more

This has to be the worst company for unified services ever!! I work with the PUC monthly and will be bringing this topic up and Company for a full investigation. Not only do they have the worst customer service, phone, text, in person, they are over working these sub contractors, not giving them proper breaks and the tools/equipment to do the job safety but there service they are charging too dollar for is horrible!! The network is constantly going down, the infrastructure is old and outdated, equipment is rebranded TiVo garbage. This company is a joke and charging this Community an arm and a leg as they monopolize. This is down right wrong! Had a service install a few weeks ago from 8-12pm, The installer got there right at 8 and I wasn't there, he canceled and made me call and rescheduled. Yesterday we had another appointment from 8-12pm I checked all platforms and everything was on time and correct. Well 8,9,10 nothing no word, 11, then 12, nothing text there number says between 8-12pm. Then 1pm rolls around and apparently the tech tried calling the house phone number that he was supposed to install that day to reach me and canceled because no one picked up! What a joke!! The Mediacom agents are horrible, very rude! I asked what my final bill was going to be (42.67) since I'm having it disconnected and he (Gerard) gave me a total, but it was different than what the previous agent had told me (Jenelyn) (26.67) and also different online (79.99). I told him that he is now giving me a third different total and that I'm so confused and he said to wait for my statement then!! What kind of customer service is that?!? My goodness - they are beyond incompetent. They missed my first scheduled appointment - and then I had to wait another week for an open date. My appointment was for the 8-12 window so I cleared my schedule for the morning. While I was asleep on the day of my appointment, I received an email at 4:30am informing me my appointment was changed to the afternoon 1-5pm. They did this without speaking to me or with any notice whatsoever. Then I call their number and the machine says it is searching for my account based on my phone number. The phone was silent for two complete minutes before I hung up. I repeated the call with the same results. Incompetent businesses like this do not deserve my patronage nor anyone else's. Their employees are incompetent - partly because they clearly are not trained on a regular basis. Use a competitor if you can. EDIT: Travis is trying make things better in every response. Forget replying on here and actually make the company better. Look at your company's ratings - they're horrible. Why not set a perpetual training program where everyone is trained continuously? It's one of the reasons most businesses fail. I hope you can save your business - but you'll have to do it without my money. read more

Mediacom internet / WiFi service is absolutely horrible. I highly recommend to use ANY other service besides Mediacom. I work from home and the connection drops at least a dozen times a day. Sometimes 5 or 6 times in a 20 minute span. I finally have another choice coming to my area to switch providers and as soon as i can i am dropping Mediacom and their crappy service. i can't wait.!!!! They only got a 1 star rating from me because i couldn't submit a review with a zero star rating. And ironically as i am typing this, the connection dropped...surprise surprise..... This company told me my new home was serviceable. I work from home on the Internet. I paid them for install and the first month. When the technician came, he said "your house is not serviceable and I told them that three weeks ago". He felt bad, said he would come the next day but the company rescheduled the appointment for days later. I confirmed and drove 1 & 1/2 hrs to this new appointment, waited 3 3/4 hrs for the service technician who came, looked on a pole, drove over to me and said " your house is definitely not serviceable". I have been with Mediacom since their takeover of Jones Intercable and their internet service is not bad. I don't subscribe to cable, just internet. It is pricey now (over $100.00 per month & modem fees) for 1G service, to save rental fees you can buy your own modem. Mediacom is the best game in town for the fastest internet service in the county. A lot of people went to Starlink, but it isn't as fast and cost effective (their standard service is $120.00 per month but no data caps). Mediacom does go down occasionally outages don't last long most of the time, but once and while it goes down good. The only drawback is that they used to give you more speed than what you were paying for, and now with 1g speeds barely reach that speed by 100 to 200 mbps depending on what time of day it is. I had a tech come out and they had the nerve to charge me $49.95 for the visit saying my computer was the problem. They will charge you if they claim the problem isn't related to their service. Bullshit. I fought the charge heavily and it was reversed when they sent another tech and found their modem wasn't reading properly and changed it out. (Previous tech didn't do that) They also have data caps and you will be charged for overages however with my service I don't even come close even with all the streaming on tv and online video game usage. Mediacom should have a package for unlimited internet usage like Comcast which has no data caps (but more expensive). I like the service and will keep it. read more

We first called to setup wifi in NOVEMBER, and have since had to call back NINE TIMES and still do not have wifi. They initially set up a day for a "service check" to make sure our address is serviceable, ridiculous on its own seeing as our landlords summer home 100ft away has Mediacom, and all of our surrounding neighbors, as well as the shopping center across the street (250ft away) also have it. Regardless, they never showed up, we had to call them back and they rescheduled. Only this happened about 4 or 5 times. They never called to say they couldn't make it EACH TIME, and a few times they didn't even KNOW a service check had been scheduled at all. After they finally determined that our house was serviceable, they set up an appointment for 12/16 for our instillation. We waited all day and didn't hear anything from them, AGAIN, so we called to see what was going on and they let us know that they wouldn't be able to make it out that day at all. They then told us that the soonest time they could schedule another instillation appointment would be Sunday, 12/27. Obviously we were very upset by this, as it would put the instillation (if it actually occured) at ONE MONTH after the first time we called. They then let us know that they could send someone out to do it today, 12/17. We again waited all day for them, and they never showed up. I am absolutely sick of spending hours on the phone with them, and missing work for appointments that they haven't shown up to, and haven't even had the decency to call and let us know. Our only other option is AT&T, who have told us that they can come out for an instillation 1-3 days after whenever we call to ask for it (no service check needed!) We would really rather not go with them, but at this point Mediacom is forcing our hand. I have no faith whatsoever that they will show up or call for their next instillation appointment, but I'm going to give them one more chance. If they don't, I will make a point to share my experience with as many people as possible to deter them from choosing this provider. If they actually do show up, I would still, at the very least, like some sort of compensation for the incredible amount of my time that they have wasted, the work they have caused me to miss, etc. It honestly seems unbelievable that this is happening and that they have such shameful customer service. read more

This is the MOST HORRIBLE company EVER!! DONT WASTE YOUR $$$$ I live 3 hours away from the home I HAD their internet service with. I made an appointment precisely for this day. It was my only available time to have this done, I was going home the next day. The "TECH" Farrin came at 8am which was great. He confirmed that all he needed to do was reconnect my service from the utility pole outside. I agreed & begin to explain I didnt understand why it was disconnected without my authorization in the first place. He agreed that the phone reps were always making those types of mistakes. I left him outdoors to begin the job. Within minutes I loose my Satalite television connection...so I figured he disconnected it to do his job. He comes to my door and asked to see my modem, I let him in and he notices my TV has no signal & then asks, do you have Dish Network? I say, Yes I do..he proceeds to tell me HE CUT THE CABLES FOR MY TELEVISION! Now not only do I not have internet but now I no longer have a television to watch. Im immediately confused. Why would you do that, I asked? He said he couldn't tell what wires were for the internet. Im like, okay well you can reconnect it right? He begins to explain to me that he doesn't know their system and I NEED TO CALL DISH TO HAVE SOMEONE COME OUT TO RECONNECT MY SERVICE THAT WAS WORKING FINE UNTIL MEDIACOM'S INCOMPETENT "TECH" CAME TO MY HOME!!!! I call customer service, spoke to Donna. After explaining to her what happened she puts me on hold for 26 minutes to come back to say its NOTHING SHE CAN DO FOR ME. So now this is MY problem on a Friday afternoon. DISH was called and they could not get a technician out until the following Wednesday. 5 days later! Meanwhile the Mediacom "Tech" is running in & out of my home because he can't get a modem to work!! Mind you its 11am. He finally calls another tech who shows up with a functioning modem and I finally have working internet service at 2pm. He is so overjoyed that he leaves without saying he is finished l wasnt asked to sign any paperwork..he left all my wires & cables exposed to the outdoor elements. And I still have no satalite service. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY EVER!!!! So I have already scheduled A NEW internet service as well as a NEW satalite provider to come and install ALL NEW SERVICES...maybe they will appreciate my business and respect my time! read more

Last week I was having problems with my Mediacom modem. I spent 26 minutes on the phone with their automated service trying to resolve the issue. The issue could not be resolved through their automated service. I was put on hold to wait for a live technician. After another 10 minutes or so on the phone I was told the modem had failed and needed to be replaced. This was a Monday morning and they could not send a tech until Wednesday between 12 and 5 I think was the time frame. The phone tech explained that I could drive to their office in a nearby town to exchange the modem myself. I agreed to do that because 2-2.5 days without tv or internet is not acceptable to me. I specifically asked the technician if the office was open and he told the they were, until 5 pm and I asked a couple of other questions so as not to be caught off guard. Silly me failed to ask about lunch breaks and errands. I arrived at the Mediacom office at 11:15 am. There was a note on the door that said, "be back at noon". Ugh, I drove 30 minutes to get there. I was not going to drive all the way home and drive back. I had to drive around for 45 minutes or sit in a hot car in 97 degree weather. I arrived back at the Mediacom office at 12:15 (give them a chance to settle back in after lunch ((I am guessing)). Another note on the door said be back at 12:45. I'm pissed. I called their customer service office and issued a complaint. You bet they are lovely over the phone but face to face their customer service is non existent. 1. Their equipment failed. 2. I had to replace it myself. 3. I had to drive 1 hour round trip. 4. I had to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes. I admit patience is not one of my virtues but this seems a bit ridiculous. Hey Mediacom, you should take better care of your existing customers. Hire more technicians to resolve equipment fails same day. Hire another person part time in the field office to cover lunch breaks and bank errands. read more

I paid $54/ month for 1 year, and then they raised their rates to $84+. I called in and they did not offer any further promotion or better pricing for what I was using, in spite of their advertisements online. I had to get their lowest internet offer and lose my landline to get a lower rate, and they insisted I still pay $79 this month. I will be looking for something affordable. They were extremely rude and unhelpful on the phone. I have never been happy with their service. It goes out frequently and does not work for about an hour or so, no matter how many times I reset my router. I will be looking for a different service provider and will buy my own modem in the future - they charge $12 a month for renting one, so I have paid for one several times over by now. They are VERY unconcerned about pleasing or keeping customers. read more

I simply requested a change of address to uninstall my equipment and reinstall it at my new home address. OY! The dopehead installer reinstalled the equipment into my old address!!! He never read the instructions and while at the old apartment never occurred to him that the equipment was being installed into the same former address??? Abandon hope all those who use Mediacom.
