Although the physician I see is very good, the optical department is not. The staff was not at all helpful as I was looking for new glasses, so consequently I chose frames that did not fit at all. They sit too close to my face and are constantly smeared. I had to clean them 8~10 times a day. When I returned to have them adjusted, I was curtly told there was nothing they could do. After months of frustration, I ordered a pair from Eyebuydiret that were a quarter of the cost and have more features. I now have a very expensive pair of glasses I never wear. read more

Our toddler was referred to Dr Thompson here from his one-year checkup. Dr. Thompson herself is awesome - patient, kind, professional. But, this office is an absolute mess. Their phones don't work - it says so right on their website. It has taken then months to get that fixed. Our toddler needed glasses, so we thought we'd order through the office. Three weeks went by, hadn't heard anything. Finally we called and somehow got through, only to be told that the factory was shut down! If they had communicated this out, we could have made another choice. After another two weeks, our glasses were finally in. They didn't bother to call us to tell us that, we had to call them. Of course, the glasses were also in Gurnee, even though we always go to Lake Forest, and they didn't tell us that part until we called them from the parking lot of the (very closed) Lake Forest office. In short, if you can get an appointment here, our experience with the doctor was good. Everything else is terrible, so go elsewhere for all of that. read more

I had been a client of this establishment for more than 15 years with the same insurance. Upon arriving they ask for me to sign a form saying if my insurance didn't cover an inspection for glasses ? I thought it was part of the eye check up was all about. The appointment was short without any complications. 2 weeks later I received a call from there billing department stating that I owed money that wasn't covered, she stated it was done 1 month too early? I reminded her they sent me an appointment card and set the date. Wouldn't you think that's something that would be in there data base. Then she said she tried to list the service as a add on coverage because I have arthritis, then told me to get a referral so they can get paid. A company that now has lost my trust. I now will have to find a new place to see for my eye care. read more

Don't go here if you're under the age of 65, especially if you have Dr. Green. So rude to me, honestly a jerk, and was very condescending. Seemed nice to all of the elderly people though. Literally no compassion was given to me from him whatsoever. Was a waste of my money, google could have told me more. Receptionist was very nice though. Will not be coming back. read more

About one hour after the appointment time, Dr. Greenberg gave me an exam. Prior to that the assistant went over my medical history, checked the eye pressure, dilated pupil.... The examination was quick-couple minutes including my 5/6 questions to the doctor. I was instructed to come back for follow up; in the meantime, nothing can be done. Dr. Tessler is my regular who is supposed to retire later this year. I feel both doctors are very professional, therefore I feel comfortable of their medical expertise. read more

So I took my son there for a kindergarten entry exam. $260 later he was finished. That was ridiculous. It was a standard eye exam. Be aware of the $30 initiation charge for new patients. They don't tell you any of these prices until after the exam. The exam is exorbitant. I don't even think the initiation fee is legal. Just so you know. read more

Do not go here. The office staff is horrible and rude, with no manners including the nurse that did 90% of my exam. I should have looked up the reviews before I went (2 Star Rating for this place). The doctor spent 5 minutes with me and told me one thing but wrote a prescription saying the opposite. Even decided in my prescription that I didn't have a medical condition anymore in my eyes but never even mentioned in my appointment. They also didn't do many tests and do not have much technology to look at your eye thoroughly. I've received more tests and thorough examination at a chain optometrist. read more

I was using this office for a number of years before getting married. My husband began using them after we were married too. We have always liked Dr. Greene. However, I just received a bill in the mail (end of May 2018) for a date of service January 2015. THREE YEARS LATER... Both my husband and I have been back there in the past three years and paid our entire service in cash each time because they said they no longer file with insurance. We then went through the hassle of submitting our claims ourself without a complaint. After receiving the bill, I called the office to question why I am receiving a bill nearly three and-a-half years later. Why wouldn't they have told us during our past few visits that we even had an outstanding balance? The first woman I spoke with asked me if I have my EOB and what it said. It's been over three years, so I don't have that handy. In addition, they should also have received a copy of the EOB to which they can refer. The woman interrupted me a number of times. I had to explain to her that while I let her talk I deserved the same respect. She immediately told me she needed to transfer me to her supervisor. I had basically the same conversation with the supervisor (except for being interrupted). I explained a number of times that we are not in the habit of screwing people out of money we owe them. We've clearly paid the past few times, but it is not impossible for me to submit this claim (over three years ago and we do not have the same insurance). The woman told me that she would look into it with the insurance and then would call me back. After about two weeks my husband gets a call at work saying that they have urgent business that they need to speak with him about. I called them back and spoke to a woman who was informing me that we have an old outstanding balance. I told her that I am aware and am waiting for them to call me back. She had no idea, but said she would talk to someone in the office and figure it out. Obviously, while the doctors might be good, I don't recommend going to this office. There are clearly some office issues that need to be addressed including billing practices and communication between staff. read more

Had a bad experience about insurance and billing. They have stopped accepting all insurance providers except VSP. But they did not tell me while scheduling the appointment and when I visited and showed my UHC card. Later they sent me the complete bill stating that the insurance was denied. They should have confirmed this while taking the appointment or at least when I visited them. Eye exam was ok, nothing great in terms of explaining or providing more information. read more

Appointment was for 10am, finally seen at 10:45 and they said 30 minutes for eye dilation for my son. What a joke. His eyes were dilated within 5 minutes and we waited another hour to be seen. Don't think we'll be back here again read more

My son's Wednesday appointment was canceled (which was made two months ago) late on Friday afternoon by the doctor and I was told the only option was a 7:45 am appointment on Saturday. My husband took off work and we drove the 25 miles to the office. We did arrive seven minutes late, which I apologized profusely for upon arrival. We had already printed and filled out the necessary forms at home. The receptionist was rude and unprofessional right off the bat. After waiting for twenty minutes we were called up to the front desk and told we needed to reschedule because we didn't have the insurance card ( although they had the number and all the information and a copy of it) and because we were over twenty minutes late- which is impossible because a 7:52 arrival time for a 7:45 appointment does not equal twenty minutes. The receptionist was so unprofessional it was unbelievable. She spoke to us like we were garbage. So it's our fault that the doctor chose to cancel our appointment. I have never had an experience like this at a medical office and am in shock at how unprofessional this practice behaves. I will be filling a formal complaint with the appropriate agencies and I urge anyone to seek alternative care rather than at this practice. The more I think about how we were treated, I'm starting to feel that we were blatantly discriminated against because our insurance for our 16 month old is Medicare and not private insurance. To turn away a child from a medical appointment on false reasons is deploratory. read more

I scheduled a pre-school eye exam and the office was booked for 2.5 weeks. I thought my appointment was at 3:30. I was told to be at the appointment 15 minutes early for new patient paperwork. I arrived at the appointment at 3PM. I was informed after they copied my insurance that my appointment was actually at 3:45pm. While in the waiting room i spoke with another patient who had been waiting since 2:30 to be seen. I was called back with my child and they did a basic eye screen asking the child to read letters on wall, pupils were dilated, and we were sat back in the waiting room. Employees started to leave. We were the only ones in the waiting room. At 5:05 i asked the receptionist to make sure they didn't forget about us. The receptionist checked and was told there were 5 PATIENTS AHEAD OF US. Who schedules patients back-to-back like that??? No regard for customer service or the total patient experience. I informed the reception we could not wait any longer. She asked if I wanted to reschedule---ABSOLUTELY NOT! This experience felt like I was waiting to be seen in the Cook County emergency room or a pubic health department with no staff and 1 physician. If you have 2-3 hours to burn waiting to be seen by the doctor--then feel free to book here. However, I would not recommend. This office needs to get their scheduling in line. I gave them 1 star because they were kind enough to offer my child sunglasses for her pupils that were dilated 45 minutes prior and the sun was still shining bright. It's a "no for me". :( read more

I am reading the reviews below....as a lifelong glasses wearer (since I was 5 - I am now 45), a typical trip to the ophthalmologist will take 60-90 minutes. As explained below, while the eye may look dilated after 5 minutes, it takes a good 20-30 min to reach all aspects of the eye that the dr needs to see. My kids go to the Gurnee office as it is convenient and Dr. Hamming gives excellent care to my children. I have never had my appointment rescheduled nor have I experienced the wait time to see the doctor. The optical shop is great too - nice selection, and walk in hours all day, including Saturdays. 5 stars from me! read more

if you have a strong RX do not go to this place. If they are not capable of telling a pair of glasses has 7 diopters of prism in one eye and 4 on the other, you know you went to the wrong the place. It was beyond me how they could NOT tell a pair of glasses has prisms, specially that much. I would not recommend. read more

I don't have anything NICE to say about Daniel Green I won't even put a Doctor's title on his name. I've been seeing him for 1 year and to this date 9/25/18 if I had of continued to zee him I would be BLIND. I have glucoma I saw him in August 2018 stating that everything.was always foggy and that my eye sight was getting bad so he checked my eyes and told me your eyes are fine just a little glucoma but not bad enough to have it removed and your eye m pressure in my eyes are fine no pressure at all. Well I decided to get a 2nd opinion in which my eye pressure is bubbling and I have very bad cataracts that's why I can't see. So I would never refer anyone to him not even an animal so less on a person, so my review is a 00000000000 and I also feel he is prejudice from the way he treated me threw out the 3 times I saw him and I feel if I had of continued to see him I would be BLIND!!!!! read more

After being seen by an optometrist at vision works was given an emergency appointment with Dr. Green. The front staff was great and got us in within 10 minutes. Assistant took our information and Dr. Green was in the room within 5 minutes. He was professional and compassionate. He was quick to find that their was a foreign object under my daughters eyelid causing abrasion on her cornea. Removed it and we were on our way with a prescription. Cannot thank the staff and Doctor Green enough. read more

What a joke this office is. I'm a single mother of three and from time to time have to reschedule appointments. Well with that being said, I received a notice from the dr saying she was going to drop my daughter from her practice because of me having to reschedule appointments. The practice itself doesn't work with you if you have a balance, pay it now or won't be seen. Keep looking for good doctors who care about you or your children's eyes. read more

Terrible always have to wait 1 1/2 to 2 hrs for appt time!# I go to many drs and never do u have to wait as long as I do with them. Professionally the drs are good but just as with any establishment all of the xperuence matters. Also everythi me I go there is a new rule....front desk doesn't know how to schedule...and all of the front staff seems very not on track like they are not even sure what the rules are. Again I like the drs. But all staff needs to be a little more professional. I contacted this practice a month ago regarding a statement showing a charge of $40, a payment of $40, and a balance of $40. At that time I was told that the payment had not been credited to the account but it had "now been taken care of". Another month, another statement, another assurance by this unscrupulous and/or incompetent practice that it has been taken care of. We'll see. read more

Dr. Hamming super nice office staff just downright rude. Took our 5 year old for exam and explained why we were coming there instead of taking her to pediatrician at the time of making her appointment. Got a confirmation call and indicated we had a $60 copay. Get there go through exam and are told routine exams are not covered and want to charge us $250 for just seeing the doctor plus $40 vision test. Office manager totally unprofessional. and yelled at my husband in front of staff and others sitting in waiting room that we need to know our benefits. Will never go again and will go back to the pediatrician that referred them to us and indicate our experience and highly encourage them to send them to another doctor. read more

I have really poor vision and have had many many eye exams and attempts to correct my vision. My experience with Medical Eye Services have been one of expertise as far as diagnosis of my vision. I had been to multiple doctors with no luck and Dr. Tessler was the only one to correct my vision so I can see. The office staff is not the friendliest but I was there for my sight and I have that restored. So don't get but off by the appointment and staff issues just know you will get great medical care once you get going. read more

What a joke this place is, it has been one of my worst experiences. Took my daughters there for a simple eye test before they started first grade back in Aug 2014. Receiveid the accounts, paid it and since then still struggling to get the accounts department to sent the correct invoices to my vision care provider. Not very accurate in their work, billed one twin out of network and the other in network. 6 months later, still struggling to get them to return my calls. Wors experience ever and would not recommend this to anyone. What a dissapointment! read more
