In terms of cleanliness as well, I didn't see too many people wearing gloves behind the kitchen counter. If you're looking for fast service, I'd suggest look elsewhere. I had had Med Grill catered several times previously, but had never ordered for myself until we decided on something light for a Friday night. 3.5 stars is more accurate. We live near and it's probably a 1-2x month stop for us. Some things are great, some are just OK. What's good? Love the fattoush salad (could use more sumac), the hummus baba ganoush and the grilled chicken are all tasty. Sometimes the fried pita chips in the fattoush are too well done bordering on burnt. One time they were and the restaurant was very kind and happily remade it for us. What isn't? I don't care for lamb or traditional gyro but my boyfriend says it is passable but bland. I tried the chicken pita sandwich and found the pita impossibly tough, the tzatziki missing and the tomato and lettuce watery and wilted. Took and bit and liquid poured out - and all over my hair, neck, and chest. The chicken was good as always. Stick with the plates and salads. Ate here ONCE. And that was enough. Add that to the ever growing list of OVERPRICED, MEDIOCRE PLACES TO EAT IN DECATUR!!! Bathrooms were so dirty the bathroom at Penn Station that hasn't been cleaned in five years was pristine compared to that. The gyro was the worst ever. Unshredded Iceberg lettuce wet from not being dried thoroughly, so it was soggy. Tomato left out too long and ergo sour. Gyro meat not of the quality of the rolling spit kind you can find at any regular hood restaurant in any northern city AND they were stingy with the portion, not even filling it up. Tzatiki sauce tasted more mayo than anything with no hints of cucumber or dill. Pita was Kroger store bought and not the pita that you can find in any hood restaurant in any northern city on a GYRO. For ten bucks, it should have been a combo. Did I mention extra lettuce, pita, or anything is an ADDITIONAL 2 DOLLAR COST? Hummus was so tiny it was like having a shot glass of it, and for five bucks I could have went to Publix across the street or Sprouts down the street and gotten a tub for less with far more flavor and no dyes. The restaurant has a strong stench of old bleachwater, so the bag/container/and anything that's been in there a long time has picked up the odor. #EPICFAIL read more

This is an update to my previous review. Tonight, with a party of two, we went to eat here. I got the sish kabab plate, and this time we decided to sit down to eat (first time sitting down to eat).. Underneath my pita bread, i saw a big fly in my food... I immediately stopped eating but i was pretty much finished by then so I am so disgusted. As the restaurant was closing, I showed the last person in the restaurant my plate and the fly. He only said, "i am sorry"... An aside: The only thing that bothers me is the tip line on the receipt...I know it's a trend now, but if you're not bringing food to my table, serving me a drink, checking on me, or anything else - what am I tipping you for? Let's start with the good: hummus was excellent and the little Greek salad that came with my gyro plate was fresh/dressing was delish! But the gyro itself was very bland - really no flavor and had to be covered up with the tzatziki sauce (which was spot on!) Also I ordered the Jerusalem salad - which to my knowledge is a fresh salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, lemon etc - but what was given was doused in a creamy sauce that seemed to taste like it may have gone sour! The food is really delicious and authentic. It's right in the plaza across the street from publix on N. Decatur road. I've had the chicken Kebab and lamb kebab. Both were tender and savory, well seasoned and perfectly charred. It is served with fresh and crispy salad and tzaziki sauce. Tip: the hot sauce they give you on the side is HOT! Careful! They also have delicious homemade pistachio baklava. The prices are all decent and the staff is friendly. I've only had takeout but the place is spacious. A few months ago, I saw a great deal for Mediterranean Grill on Google Offers: $10 for $20 worth of food and drinks. I did a quick Yelp search, which I do ANYTIME I am considering purchasing an online deal of some sort for a place I've never heard of. I was pleasantly surprised to see an average of 4 solid stars (and WAY more than a handful of reviews), so I bought the deal. Recently, I used the deal with a friend on a Friday night. When you walk into the restaurant, it sort of looks like a place that has waiter service. However, we quickly realized that we had to order and pay at the counter first, and then pick up your food from the counter to take to your table when it's ready. I had a tough time deciding what to order because I usually like getting chicken kabobs at Mediterranean restaurants, yet I was craving beef. Ultimately, I ended up ordering the "Combination Feast" - which includes small portions of shish kabob, kufta kabob, AND gyro slices! My friend ordered the Chicken Kabob plate, and all meat entrees come with rice, salad, pita bread, and your choice of a sauce. If you don't choose one, the default is tzatziki because neither my friend nor I specified which sauce we wanted when we ordered. The total cost for the two entree plates was $19 and change, so the Google Offer we had was perfect for dinner for two. Since it was past 8:30 pm and the restaurant didn't seem too busy (only 2 or 3 other tables of customers), we didn't have to wait very long for our food. This was great because we were starving! When the food was ready, my friend walked over to the counter and brought the food to our table. * Combination Feast ($9.50) - I got a few pieces of shish kabob (lean cuts of marinated charbroiled beef), two pieces of kufta kabob (charbroiled ground sirloin), and a pretty generous amount of gyro slices with my rice, salad, and pita bread. I thought all three of the meats were pretty tasty - especially with the tzatziki sauce! Although I haven't tried too many different tzatziki sauces in my life, their tzatziki sauce is the BEST I have ever had! My friend agreed, and even had to ask for extra sauce (which was FREE) because it's just THAT good! The rice was decent, and I really liked the salad, which was super fresh and was drizzled with a tangy vinaigrette. It's very likely that I will return to try one of their sandwiches ($6.90 for a combo including a drink and a choice of potatoes or Greek salad, or $5.20 for just the sandwich) or the "Business Lunch Combo Special," which costs a measly $6.90 for the same food in the "Combination Feast" I had ordered, PLUS a soft drink! Perhaps the portion size may be less (I can't confirm this until I try it), but it's an awesome deal! Overall, Mediterranean Grill gets 4 stars for their solid Mediterranean food, excellent tzatziki sauce, and reasonable prices for good portions. We didn't have too much interaction with the employees beyond the ordering and paying process at the beginning, but they seemed pretty friendly. I subtracted one star because although the food was great, it wasn't the best Mediterranean food I have ever had. But as I had mentioned above, I'm pretty sure I will return if I am craving Mediterranean and happen to be close to one of their three locations - Decatur (this one), Marietta, or Atlanta (Midtown). Mediterranean Grill, or Med Grill as it's affectionately referred, has just got great food that appeals to all sorts of folks: families, older folks, undergrads, grad students, professors, different cultures, races, etc. It's nothing flashy or trendy but solid and reliable. As others have noted, if it happens to be between 11-3 M-F, it's all about the business lunch combo which is a huge bargain for the amount of food you receive for $7.60. The pitas as part of the combo are a bit flimsy but oh well. Tzatziki sauce is excellent. You can get the combo delivered too; it's not just dine in only. Shish kabob, gyro, and kufti kabob meats area quite flavorful though can verge on being a hair dry. You can get these as pita sandwiches or as entrees. Regarding appetizers, the dolmas are tasty though perhaps slightly overpriced at six for $6.40, though they are of decent heft. Good old Mediterranean Grill. 5/5 for the lamb shank! Almost every member of my group ordered this delicious, meaty chunk of lamb and none of us were disappointed. It was a lot of meat (I couldn't finish), with salad, rice, and pita. I wasn't a big fan of the rice, but I'm sure I could swap it out for the saffron rice next time. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy, just an average strip mall, eat and get out style location. The few people who didn't get the lamb shank seemed a little disappointed, and I can see why because it seemed that they got a 1/2 the meat the rest of us did. I used to order from here at least once a week until I stopped running long distances...can't calorically afford it anymore. Their gyros are addictive. Every time I eat one, I wish I either had another one or could go back in time and eat in again. The tzatziki sauce is so garlicky (in a good way) that when I'm done I don't even care what my breath smells like cause I want to hold onto the taste of all the delicious meat, pita, tomato and sauce as long as possible. I've had the kufta kebab, falafel, shish kabob, potatoes, lamb shank. I've not had anything I don't like. The guys that run it/work there are also very nice and seem very dedicated to their business.
