Great food and great costumer service. The atmosphere is very roomy and you do not feel like you are on top of each other. Lots of parking if you come in the evening. This place is both a cafe and a store. Their gyros are excellent, as is their babaganoush. This is the best place for gyros in the area. Service was helpful and quick. They have improved the ambiance with covers on the booths. We got Turkish delight here too, and they had it in small packages as well as boxes, which was helpful. Fantastic! We ordered food for 7 people and each thing was better than the next! The food was super fresh and portions were large. There were no complaints. Hubby said this will be his new go to for Greek salad with many big chunks of kebab chicken. Past this place alot,first time in. Owners are actually Turkish. No matter, the food seems very good and fresh.we ordered 2 large Greek salads,one with lamb kabob the other with chicken. Lamb didn't taste like lamb more like steak,no matter it was very tender and tasty. The chicken was also very good. The dressings are pretty typical Greek dressing and the other is the white sauce with cucumber. It's like the gyro sauce. The spinach pie was really good but not flaky like the real Greek kind. I'm assuming this is a Turkish version. We ordered two,they were gone in no time. I will return and use this store again. There's other meals I want to try. This place used to be of my favorite places, even though the prices are high for the location. Decided to visit tonight for dinner, order a whole brazini (fish) with salad & rice, and ordered coffee However, the owner of the restaurant was the waitress training another waitress during rush hour, my coffee arrived SUPER late, salad and same late too, salad was mediocre, dressing tasted like white vinegar (horrible) once I was with soup & salad, was told they were out Branzini (fish) they offered a sea bass, which arrived like 45- 60 mns late, the chef was alone in the kitchen very overwhelmed with all the orders, my fish came out uncooked/ raw and the owner most fishy are like that... REALLY now, I was like WOW... I didn't no apology or was offered a different meal, they charged for everything and not even apology. Tried this place a few years ago and wasn't thrilled so I stayed away. Last weekend figured I'd give it a try again and was pleasantly surprised. Wife and I had the Gyro Platters with Fries and had a Great Meal. Plenty of Meat vegetables and the Tziki Sauce was good too. My favorite place for Mediterranean take-out. Why? Everything is fresh, prepared to order and delicious. I live in Queens and when ever I go that way I have to stop by for Adana Durum sandwich. Combination of ground meat and zesty mix is amazing. If you never tried Adana Durum this is the place to try. If you are stuck in the cuisine desert of NY (Shirley/Mastic) and seeking lunch or dinner, I can safely say this is the best place to eat. I was very surprised by the quality of the food. Prices were very fair, and there is a small selection of Turkish groceries there as well. This place says "Greek and Turkish" cuisine, but it is pretty much the later, which is good! I suppose they have to put Greek and Gyro in their sign/menu to attract people in this area as there are not many interesting eats around, and many may not know what Turkish food is. Their gyro meat is well.. gyro meat and not like the juicy meat you get for turkish kebabs, but this is more than offset by their good chicken kebab and home bread. I had requested home bread and the woman was like ummm and goes to the chef, and she is like you are in luck, we have it today, we make it fresh. When I called to explain, they refused to resolve it and I could hear a man yelling to the woman speaking to me on the phone that I was a liar. I used to like going to Mediterranean Kitchen, but after my last visit, I will never go there again. I always thought they were very overpriced for what you got. Still, I would go there once every few months when the craving struck for a gyro. It was always sub-par. However, a few weeks ago, I had a few people over for a small birthday party and we decided to order Greek. My husband brought home the $80 worth of food (for 4 people, mind you) and it was just terrible. Everything was cold. They skimped on the meat in the gyros even when we had asked them and PAID FOR extra meat!!! The taziki sauce was watery and tasteless. I won't order from them or go there again. Was a fan of this place for many years. Recently ordered falafel platter, and was so disappointed. Falafels had no taste, like grease patties, and tzatziki yogurt sauce was flavorless. I make better falafels at home, and mine have parsley in them, and my yogurt sauce at least tastes like the real deal. I was expecting a pita filled with falafels and since it was platter thought it wou have some other stuff on the side, instead, just these flat squashed falafels on bed of rice...and over priced as well (like $13.00). In NYC city (west side mid 90's) I get a platter with pita bread, falafels, salad, eggplant salad, babaganouch, lettuce, tomato, cucumber slices, olives, with tahini or tzatziki in a sit down restaurant for $11.95. The other dish ordered for the table was the gyro special...was not as good as we had remembered, and the fries were soggy...(just frozen fries). read more

Right off, the counter person was very unwelcoming & curt. After my take-out salad was prepared, I asked the cook to please put the sliced lamb in another container since I didn't want the warm meat sitting on top of the salad & wilting it. The counter person then told me: It's not your order. But then she packed it up & gave it to me. I questioned her about this. She then said in a very hostile way: You're not allowed to talk to him. He doesn't speak any English. How bizarre is that?! I left without the food but with a very bad feeling about the place. I've never before had such a strange experience in a restaurant!! Anytime I'm in the Port Jefferson area of Long Island, my friends and I like to eat at the Mediterranean Kitchen. The last time I was there, we ordered Iskender (grilled pita chips served with shredded lamb, tomato sauce and yogurt), and lamb souvlaki served on bulgur pilaf. We also ordered side dishes of hummus (mashed chickpeas), babaganoush (eggplant), tabouleh (salad made with bulgur wheat, herbs, tomatoes and more!), falafels (deep-fried, spiced ground chickpeas) and Greek salad. For dessert, we ordered a Portakal cake, an orange and cocoa cake with orange flavored icing. It was excellent with their Turkish tea. Everything was just so delicious! There is a section in the restaurant that displays products from Turkey, for sale. It ranges from food, trinkets, to other decorative items. After our meal, I went home with a very nice "evil eye" protection bracelet. The restaurant is cozy, the food is very good and reasonably-priced, and the staff is friendly.
