MedVet helped us after our cat was hit by a car. Although he had to be euthanized, the care and compassion that they gave us went above and beyond what we expected. We were given (at no charge) a paw print of his and they also sent us a postcard with condolences a few weeks later. I've dealt with a few veterinarians in my life, and can say that these people really care about your animals needs, and how you feel as a person. read more

My wife went there early morning on Monday July 15th cause her dog was in labor and having problems. A friend of hers called them and talked to them and they said since she had pet insurance that it would be fine go ahead and bring her well they get there and they try to take and ultrasound of the dog but she won't hold still because they separated her from the pups she already gave birth to. So my wife suggested they let her in there with the dog while they do the ultrasound they told her no they couldn't do that it was against the law. So then they tell her since she doesn't have any money on her that they couldn't do anything for her. That she would have to pay first then turn it into her pet insurance. So it seems like this place is all about the money and not helping pets in need. Cause it would of cost 3,000.00 dollars for the c-section and 400 dollars for an xray since they couldn't do the ultrasound. Because of that we lost 2 puppies that otherwise would of probably would of still been alive or at least had a better chance of surviving if these people at Med Vet wouldn't have been so worried about their precious money. After seeing bad reviews on here I felt compelled to write my own. I never write reviews but will for this fine facility. MedVet and the doctors there literally saved my dogs life. Over a year ago he had a mass that ended up Malignant. We did surgery and they got the mass completely out with clear margins and he is and has been cancer free for well over a year. The receptionists, office staff, vet techs and doctors have always been absolutely wonderful to Myself and my dog Maximus. I also had a foster rescue dog that had cancer with only a few months to live and the visits needed during her last few months at MedVet were very helpful. They gave her medicine that made her feel better, perked her up increased her appetite and definitely increased her quality of life in her last few months, and again on every visit they were very loving and compassionate. And these reviews I read about them not caring for cats? Just silly. As Maximus and I sat in the lobby today, which by the way our wait is never unacceptable, 2 nice ladies rushed in with their cat and it was an emergency. The receptionist immediately called the emergency on the intercom, a vet tech literally came RUNNING out and got the cat and rushed it back to be seen. Some of the complaints are about cost. I personally would pay whatever it takes to give my Dog and any pets the best care and quality of life possible and that is what we get with MedVet. Remember they are also an Emergency facility. To be able to rush in on emergency and immediately be seen? Well there is a premium for that, just like when we go to the ER as humans. As for standard costs on his visits, blood work, meds, x-rays and many things he has had done there, well they don't really seem out of line to me in comparison to others. I also run a dog rescue so I am very aware of standard costs of many services and again, I do not believe they are out of line for what we get in return. The facility is clean beautiful and state of the art. Again, I am willing to pay to have such services available to my dog. Also to be certain I would always be able to take care of my boy I bought Pet Insurance. It's available to all dogs and I am really shocked at how many people I know with dogs that don't have it. I decided long ago to budget for health insurance for my boy as I don't ever want to be in a position that I have to make a very hard horrible decision about my pets life over money. I want coverage and pay for it. 80% of my dogs cancer surgery was reimbursed for a decent monthly payment. I would have had a really hard time financially with this surgery had it not been for the insurance. He now has an issue with his leg which can be a torn ACL and it sure gives me peace of mind to have the insurance in times like this. Max and I absolutely love everyone at Med Vet and especially would like to thank his Oncologist Dr. Jacqueline Bloch and his very compassionate and kind surgeon Dr. Anson. PLEASE BEWARE! Absolutely disgusting experience. I just moved to the area, my dog was in recovery from a brain infection. I took him here as I noticed he was declining, I waited over THREE HOURS as my dog continued to degrade in front of me with absolutely no help or information from staff. When I was finally seen, the Dr. gave me about 10 minutes of her time where she visually said it's probably a cancerous brain tumor (it was not) and that he'd ultimately die. She gave the option to have him stay the night there for monitoring. I pay the hefty $1200+ fee. NO IVs, No access to water, nothing! They put my dog in a padded room with nothing in it on his second last day on Earth. It has taken me over 3 months to write this review. When I got my dog back, he came home and drank water for 15 minutes straight, he has never done this. Within two hours, my dog could not walk. I drove my dog back to his neurologist 8 hours away overnight to try to save him. They prolonged his life for another 24 hours before the infection began to affect his breathing and heart rate. I have so much guilt for bringing my dog here on the last day that I would end up spending with him. It's not even the money, it's the time and the way he and I were treated. I hope no one has to go through this during any emergency they have with their pet. Please avoid this veterinary practice. Three months later I got a package in the mail from them with the shirt I had left with my dog that night. I doubt they even know or care that he died the next day due to their neglect. read more

The vet on duty made me feel like a commodity, not a person. We were left waiting for up to three hours before the vet had even looked at him. He was not given any sort of IV fluids, which he needed. It wasn't even offered as an option. In fact, she didn't offer many options beyond a battery of super expensive tests, none of which sounded like they would actually help my poor senior dog. I would have even been ok with her telling us that he was old, and he would have to be euthanized...but we weren't given that option. I decided to take him home (after paying almost $200 for no answers and some antibiotics). He died at home a few hours later, peacefully, surrounded by my other dogs. I didn't contact them about cremation services, either. I contacted Hummel Funeral Home, and they've been fantastic. I am not blaming them for his death. My biggest concern and red flag is that they treated myself and my family in such a poor manner. We will never return to this place. I refuse to ever be treated like a price tag again. A little compassion goes a long way, and Dr. Kollar could use a lesson in just that. Be straightforward with the family; don't try to milk their wallets in their time of panic and need. My cat had an emergency in the middle of the night and we were referred to MedVet by our regular vet. The cost of an office visit was less than I expected for an emergency in the middle of the night. They saw him immediately, diagnosed him very quickly, and laid out our options, including an estimate of the cost of treatment. Unfortunately the prognosis was very poor and he was an older cat, so we had him euthanized. They gave us the option of visiting with him and/or being with him when they euthanized him. We did both. (We were comfortable with the COVID precautions.) The vet and vet techs were all very kind and compassionate. Just yesterday we received a lovely condolence note with little cards they made with his paw prints. I was so moved by this kind gesture. Thank you, Dr. Kollar and staff! read more

Dr Mike Slawieski rocks! My older, couch potato dog suffered athlete's injuries to each of her back knees (she tore the cruciate ligaments in each knee on two separate occasions). Dr Mike did the surgical repairs and all of the post operative follow ups. He was very concerned, very professional and made great suggestions about rehab and follow up care. Would highly recommend this practice for surgical or emergency needs. read more

My pit mix swallowed about a foot long fabric toy whole on the 4th of July. They warned us it could be a long wait but they had him throw it up and with in two hours we were out and he was fine. Priced very fairly for an ER, he became friends with the staff in that time and didn't want to see them walk away as we were leaving. read more

Unfortunately we had to put our dog down yesterday. It was one of the most horrible experiences of my life. We loved her more than words can say. We came in late evening. They helped us right away. They were compassionate and helpful. They treated our dog with gentleness and respect. Although I have had other dogs, I have never been the one to take them for their final ride. Went to this place on saturday and paid 120.00 just for them to see my cat Kiwi. they would not do anything else because we didnt have the money to pay for blood work or x-rays and got denied the credit online. They said she has asthma, she passed away today because of kidney failure. absolutely never going back!!!!! read more

I brought my 13 year old Husky Shepherd to the Referral Clinic this week. Her throat is swollen, she was vomiting blood and has stopped eating. After reading some of the poor reviews, I really hesitated. But then spoke with the manager of our boarding kennel. She told be she shadowed the doctors there while in school. She said one person brought their pregnant dog in. By the time the people brought their dog in, the unborn puppies were already deceased and putrefying. The infection was so bad, the mother couldn't be saved either. She told me she was sure the people blamed the clinic and probably wrote one of those bad reviews even though it was their fault. I was greeted even before I got in the door by the receptionist. The entire time I was there, absolutely everyone from the Internal Medicine specialist, Dr. Boyce, to every one of the technicians treated both my dog and me with friendliness, kindness and respect. No conclusion was reached regarding my dog. Dr. Boyce told me he suspects cancer, but wants Jessie to undergo further testing. If I had any concerns it would be that the wait is almost a week before appointment is available. When your dog is acting sick and it's not really an emergency, a week is a long time to wait. The doctor told me to be sure and call if Jessie would "crash" in any way. I have confidence that whether it is good or bad news, the staff at the Referral Clinic will find out what's wrong with my dog. read more

I have never been to this clinic and i will also never return. We called ahead to see how to deal with our emergency and they stated to come in and we would be taken back upon arrival to take care of the situation. Mind you we drove 25 minutes to get here. As we arrived and filled out paperwork in the lobby we were greeted by a man who did not even asses the wounds and we were left to sit with a bloody homemade bandages that needed changed for an over an hour and a half. I finally approached a girl at the counter and simply asked for some gauze and such to fix it myself as we continued to wait which initiated them to then take our dog back to change his bandages for us, which we appreciated, until out dog didn't returned and we were left for another 45 minutes wondering what was happening. The only reason we found anything out was because I again approached the desk and asked if they were handling the situation because he had been back there so long. With an attitude she said I have no clue I can go to find out. The result was us waiting another half an hour for them to tell us they were going to do a treatment THAT THEY DID NOT EVEN DO. They charged us $200 in bandages and triple antibiotic ointment and ER fees. The worst part is we were not the only ones there for hours on end. The couple to follow us in sat there completely unhelped for 4 hours with a yelping poor pup. I could not be more serious when i say they are the worst vet office of any sort I have ever been to. We were there 4 hours for them to do nothing productive and charge us $200. read more

They gave me a pill and told me to give it to her, when I asked why they didn't, i was told they had a lot of emergencies today. The care we have received from MedVet Akron goes above and beyond!! Dr Anson and his staff are amazing! Our little princess (dog) had a leg amputation in 2016 and just recently had a large tumor removed from her liver. They are very caring and up to date on all the latest treatment. They provided updates anytime I called and explained everything they were doing before the did it. I couldn't ask for better care! Our 11 year old rescue mix dog currently has Addisons Disease, is blind and has a heart condition. He was experiencing shaking, lethargy and wasnt eating or drinking. At 5:15AM this morning we took him here. There was only ONE Other car in the customer lot. They came , got the info of his ailments ,took our dog and we sat in the car waiting to hear for 3 HOURS and heard NOTHING from them. We called in and they gave us a multitude of excuses and he at that point STILL HAD NOT Been looked at. We got numerous apologies from a vet tech and also i believe a Vet who came out and said :" We had a shift change and we " Review all our admitted cases FIRST before we take any new emergencies !: ARE THEY KIDDING ?? Take care of the already secured patients before dealing with a pet who could be dying ??? NO WAY !.. I told him that was Totally Unacceptable and I would NEVER BRING ANOTHER ANIMAL Here ! .. We took our dog all the way to Canton to Stark County Veterinary Clinic on Whipple Avenue, as many other 24 hour places are closed on weekends (??). The place was VERY BUSY but the people in Canton took our info and our dog was examined within 15 MINUTES of our arrival. He is now being treated and kept overnight and will be back to us tomorrow afternoon. NOW THATS PROFESSIONALISM ! This place showed no empathy or concern to our dog whatsoever . I will start with a positive, the care at MedVet is good, staff are kind and helpful. My issue is their pricing. MedVet is taking advantage of the community it serves which is sad. Our dog broke his leg and needed surgery. the first overnight at MedVet for observation was 1500.00 and they demand a "deposit" just to get in the door. The quote for surgery the next day, with a surgeon we never got to meet or talk to was 7000.00. luckily our dog's surgery was something that could wait a day or two and we got a second opinion by sending his Xrays to other vets in the community with good reputations. Ultimately we picked our dog up from med vet, had to pay even more than the estimated deposit for the one night stay, but had our dog operated on somewhere else. the total bill for 2 nights at the vet for IV meds and observation and major orthopedic surgery INCLUDING post operative Xrays AND all going home meds was 4000.00. I am not saying that MedVet doesnt have a right to charge for their services, but they should be matching the community standards and charging more than twice what other vets are charging because its "emergency" leaves people unable to pay for their animals care. ultimately its greedy corporate policy and not good care to do this to our community and they are taking advantage. read more

I took my cat here due to a worsening nosebleed issue that wouldn't stop and my local vet could not diagnose due to needing a scope. His initial diagnosis was a tumor and Dr. Crandell was very honest and straightforward. We proceeded with a scope and biopsy since he was so young. I was relived that it was only an infectious mass and we were able to treat with antibiotics and steroids. He had to stay overnight a couple of days since the antibiotics caused him not to eat nor drink. I spoke with Dr. Crandell many times and he was very empathetic yet honest and detailed. It was indeed expensive, but I do not believe this is abnormal for this service. For a pet with a serious issue, I believe this is a great hospital. read more

This company does not even deserve the ONE star I'm giving it - this place is definitely a business first and a hospital second. I was told that I was the decision maker, that I was the owner and that I was to decide ALL care - apparently not. They went COMPLETELY against my wishes and, although I'd SUPPLIED them with a specific diet for my diabetic cat to eat and requested that she be syringe fed if necessary THEY "decided" to give her DRY food - I guess although I was PAYING for around the clock care, it was easier to feed the less messy choice and shoot her blood sugar to the sky. Needless to say, my beloved kitty died and I paid $3500 for this. The REALLY interesting this is that they take deposits from you daily with NO paperwork or listing of procedures. Upon discharge, they REQUIRE you to pay the balance and when I asked for a listing of services etc; I was told it wouldn't print out until I PAID! So, basically, you are being robbed blind and don't know it until well afterward. Interestingly, as I'd ASKED for the print out of charges, the first one was "accidentally shredded" and they had to go to a printer in the "back" to retrieve another one .... by then, you are in a room with your pet and you just want to go - it's not the time to be looking at the charges! The front desk staff are rude and indifferent and one of the doctors blatantly LIED and said that I'd given her "permission" to feed dry food. This was after having ONE meeting with her where I took 12 cans of low carb wet food and a small blender - and, at the end of this meeting, she sent in a vet tech to go over the food procedure with me. She lied to save her a** ....... and I got to pay for services that were COMPLETELY against what I was told. If you have an after hours emergency - go to the OTHER place just a few blocks away because this place is appalling and indifferent to your pets needs. read more

Holding back on 5 stars simply because of cost. Maybe not fair, but let's be honest; price is a huge component of satisfaction. However, so is value. I brought my dog in here learning what I feared that I knew; Emergency back surgery repairing a ruptured L5 disc, or put her down. Dr said nothing is 100%, as we know, but 90 chance my girl would have a wonderful recovery. I trusted him, scrounged up the $6000, and they went in. After days of recovery, I brought my girl home to recover. It has been 4 years now, and she is still as good as new! Great facility with outstanding results! Glad I came here. This place is an absolutely joke. Both the nurses and vets were very rude and didn't treat me like a person. Said I would need to get an intense surgery for my dog and went to my vet the next day which I have been going to for years and they said that the surgery is absolutely not needed and outrageous. I took my very ill cat to Akron Vet Referral and Emergency Center on Sat., 9-12-15, at approximately 2:00 pm. (My local vet, Dr. Feeney of the Dover Detroit Animal Hospital in Westlake, Oh, suggested my very ill cat be taken to the Akron Vet Referral and Emergency Center. He spent one night in this facility and then Dr. Feeney suggested that because he was so ill, I take him to Akron, in the event his condition worsened and surgery was going to be an option.) My cat suffered from a liver ailment that I understood was quite advanced. Dr. Carrie A. Griffith at the Akron Vet center gave a thorough examination to my dearly beloved cat, Paulie, giving me her medical opinion. She offered possible options. She explained his condition. She was very frank and honest about his serious condition, for which I am grateful. Although she explained things extremely clearly, it was difficult for me to absorb how ill he really was as I was in some denial and shock. Dr. Griffith was really patient, professional, compassionate and took extra time with me to get me to grasp the severity of the situation. I made the difficult decision to have him put to sleep as he was so ill that it seemed selfish of me to put him through what needed to be done just to see if it could help him. I could not put my beloved animal through such an ordeal. I understand this hospital is an emergency center and they must take the most seriously injured and ill animals first. While waiting to see the doctor, I was asked more than once to let them know immediately, while we were waiting to be seen by the doctor, if my cat seemed to be taking a turn for the worse. This gave me emotional assurances that they were cognizant of his situation and would have been ready to see us immediately should he have appeared to be suffering or getting worse in some tangible way I could see. I appreciate that they must triage animals and do what is necessary. My wait time was approximately 45 minutes, which I believe, for an emergency center, is not unusual or uncommon. I think Dr. Griffith is an excellent diagnostician. She possesses excellent skills in educating me on my pet's condition and chances of survival. Furthermore, I believe the charges for services rendered were very reasonable. I never felt pressure to go to heroic measures to save my pet. I felt my pet and I were dealt with as best as could be hoped for under the circumstances. So, in short: thank you, everyone, at the Akron Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center for the services you provided. read more

We had to take our dog to MedVet Akron, transferred her from VCA Great Lakes ER in Warrensville, Ohio. She had low blood sugar and needed to be on an IV dextrose drip overnight. VCA didn't have a vet after 1:00 a.m. so they had us transport her to MedVet Akron. They charged us $3,000 before they even took her inside! We were not allowed inside because of Covid restrictions. They ended up keeping her overnight and the reports from the vet were that her prognosis was "grim" and they weren't giving us hope that she would recover. He said he thought she had fluid in her abdomen, and was in kidney failure. I felt the vet was saying, without using the word, that we should euthanize our dog. We took her home the next day and have been following up with our specialty vet over the past couple of weeks. OUR vet ran the tests again. She is NOT in kidney failure, her liver is fine and no fluid in her abdomen upon examination. She IS a brittle diabetic and will be hard to control. We had another incidence of low blood sugar and again had to go to an emergency clinic, this time MedVet in Brookpark, which was a MUCH better experience and they did NOT charge us $3,000!!!! I've talked to friends who have taken their pets to MedVet Akron and had similar situations being overcharged and still having a sick pet when they left. I would never take a pet to MedVet Akron again!!! We suffered greatly, thinking all weekend that our dog was dying. And the charge of $3,000 was outrageous! I think someone needs to be held accountable for doing these sorts of things to vulnerable pet owners at a time that they are already distressed in an emergency situation. read more

I absolutely recommend MedVet. My dog Morty was referred to MedVet Akron in May 2019 for a complicated condition called, "Chylothorax." I met with Dr. Daniel Davis a Surgeon at MedVet. He was very honest about the complexity of the surgery and success rate of the surgery (70%). After a major surgery, a blood transfusion scare, two days at the vet hospital, two weeks with a cone, and three weeks of no jumping, running and climbing stairs, Morty is fluid free and officially cured. I can't say enough about how great Dr. Davis handled Morty's diagnosis, and he really went above and beyond for Morty. In fact, Dr. Davis told me after surgery that he was prepared to use his own dog as a blood donor, if Morty needed the transfusion. How amazing is that!! It just shows his dedication to his patients. I am currently on a FB page for this condition, and surgery has not been successful for many dogs. The FB group is very excited for another success. Also, the FB page recommends surgeons who have successfully cured dogs from this diagnosis and Dr. Davis is now one of them. We are just so grateful for Dr. Davis and the staff at the Copley Road MedVet. Everyone was very nice and helpful. I personally spent a ton of time at MedVet over the course of about 6 weeks and observed how hard they work and how busy it can get at the facility. I saw first hand the triage vet techs running out and checking on each and every pet who came to the emergency part of the facility. It's an amazing facility and I would definitely recommend them. read more

the akron vet hospital is absolute ridiculous. we took one of our sugar gliders the four a cut on jerr back from the other one biting her. we were there from 7pm to after 11pm. all they did was give my sugar glider a pain med and told us that they don't have the equipment to help us. plus we waited in the exam room over over two hours before we saw the "dr" and when we did see her, she didn't even know the aid had already taken her back. this place lacks patient care and professionalism. we had to pay $111.00 up front just to be seen. then after all time we waited and the lack of help they gave our pet we had to pay another $66.00 for "shaving, washing and the pain med". the doctor was extremely rude. I'll never make my pets suffer the hour long drive and to be treated so poorly ever again. i really wish i could give less than one star. read more

We were referred to MedVet for surgical removal of a tumor in her mouth but they were booked out a few weeks. Suddenly our Golden stopped eating so we brought her in through their ER today. We brought her in at 11:30am and we picked her up at 7pm. I called multiple times throughout the day and each time they told me she was next in line to see a doctor. It wasn't until I called at 6pm and told them that I was on my way to pick her up that the doctor finally saw her. I could go on and on but overall, the day shift staff was very friendly and understood my frustrations until the night shift switch and the client service representative was surprisingly rude and told me she had no idea what the status of my dog was because "she just got there". I was frustrated and she immediately was defensive and it was a very uncomfortable interaction. The night shift doctor was very pleasant and apologized for our experience but by then I just wanted the debacle to be over with. They did not charge me $109 for the visit which I appreciate but given the experience thought was fair. I do understand there were other dogs there they prioritized care for but they certainly made it clear that my dog and her situation was not important. read more

My dog was broughtin on a Saturday, and was released Sunday late evening because the vet felt he was stable. We rushed him to Metro Animal Hospital Monday morning, and were told he was in severe distress. They told us he would have no chance of survival without a surgery to stop the internal bleeding. The surgery odds were 50/50, we had him euthanized. I feel the staff at this facility was not on the "same page". We were told by a tech that he would stay overnight, and returned home to find out an hour later by phone that the vet felt he was stable to go home. I really felt like we were an inconvenience, and I never fully had my questions and concerns answered. The care I feel was inadequate, no one seemed interested in his lack of eating. The vets are very not interested in communicating with their clients, and I feel everything was left to the vet techs. read more

Absolutely the worse experience ever with a pet care provider. Brought my cat in to this animal emergency center after he was attacked by another animal. They promptly took him at the door and I did not see him again for 8 hours. I don't know what they we're doing with him for that long - was he sitting alone in a corner? I have no idea!! I was moved from the lobby to an examining room at the 6 hour mark and was left waiting for another hour for the vet to talk with me. That's the first contact I had with the vet who took my pets history (this is at the 7 hour mark). This should have been done before they even touched my cat. She explained they cleaned the wounds, gave him oxygen due to his breathing (?), and she recommended a chest x-ray which I declined since he did not have a breathing problem when we arrived. They brought him out wrapped in a towel and he looked worse than before he was treated. His tongue was hanging out and he was, at that point, in respiratory distress. After seeing his condition, I OKed the x-Ray and waited another 2 hours. His x-ray was inconclusive - vet didn't know what was going on explaining he had something respiratory going on but could not say what it was. She recommended Lasix which she said might help his breathing which I approved. After seeing my cat, I realized he was in grave condition but the vet just kept recommending further studies. At that point my bill was $500+ and my cat was worse than when we arrived. I would have thought that for all the time they had him back in the examining area they would have started an IV antibiotic but that didn't happen. They send me home with oral antibiotics and my pet who was in worse condition than when we arrived. We made it home, I set my beloved cat on his bed, and he died within five minutes of being home. As stated in another review, it appeared they treated the dogs first with no regard for cats. I would agree with that statement. Also would say that they play on emotion, recommending costly testing to run up the bill even though they know it is not going to help. The front desk people were very nice and caring, the health care providers were absolutely horrible. I would not recommend this facility to anyone. read more

This place is only interested in one thing, and I'll give you a hint: It's not the well-being of your pet. My college-aged daughter's dog had an MRI. $2K to find out he needs neck surgery at a cost of another $4K for a total of almost $6K. Of course she couldn't afford it, so she explored laser treatment and a month later, he still needs the surgery. They said he will have to have another MRI at another $2K to "see if anything's changed," in addition to the surgery. Shame on them. That's almost $8K that she can't afford. But to add insult to injury, dinging her for another $2K on top of that. They know these kids can't afford it and only have one option and that's to go to the parents. read more

I was unbelievably dissatisfied with AVREC! My 5 month old puppy was injured in a car accident and we brought him in for medical help. The staff was very cold and unsympathetic towards us and our situation. The staff almost seemed put off that we were even there! When we asked many questions about treatments and medicine options we were answered by short and aggravated responses. When the vet sent out a vet tech. To answer our questions and couldn't she yelled back to the vet, "They're all yours, I'm not answering more questions!!" They wanted to have my dog stay over night and get oxygen treatments quoting a $1200.00 bill, just for a night. Saying he needed diuretics and oxygen. Each additional day would be around $600 dollars. We had to decline these services because we cannot afford these expenses. They said he has fluid in his lungs and would worsen if he didn't receive these treatments. We took him home and not even a week later my dog has recovered with just pain medicine. When I took him to his normal vet we got an x-ray and the results showed that there wasn't even fluid in his lungs, that instead his lungs were bruised. and that putting my dog on oxygen would not have even served a purpose in his recovery. So my problem with AVREC is not the price, but the unprofessionalism and sense of insensitivity of the staff as well as they're scare tactics to do unnecessary procedures to animals that are already suffering. read more

If I could give them a zero, I would! Will never take a pet here again. After spending 4 days (and over $2,500 on my 3-1/2 year old dog for severe pancreatitis with liver involvement, I ended up taking her home. She was still not eating and the only thing they had done for her was hydrate her and give her pain and anti-nausea meds. They had also taken her off her antibiotics! After the 4 days, her blood analysis was much WORSE than it had been when I first took her in. Thank God I took her to a former vet who put her on steroids, 2 antibiotics and 3 liver meds. She began eating within 24 hours and has been making wonderful progress every since, In my opinion, Akron Referral is only in business for the money and not the best treatment of the pet - either that or they just don't know what they are doing! As of today, 1/22/14, her blood test is showing that all counts are within the normal range. Thanks Stow-Kent Animal Hospital for saving my little girl! read more

Took my dog to Med-Vet yesterday for bleeding from his rectum . When I arrive I was told they were very busy and it could take four to five hours before they could see him and I should leave and they would call me. I agreed to this arrangement about three hours in I received a phone call saying they took his vitals and they were fine still not seen by a vet at this time! Waited another three hours no call I called them still hadn't seen the vet at this time he was caged without food or water for six hours. Finally get a call from the vet she says many things could cause him to have this she would give an antibiotic and I could bring him home! I asked if he may have a cut on his butt because he had sat on something at home her reply well I didn't really look for something like that I will go look and call you right back 30 minutes later no call I call again ask for an update was told by a tech she couldn't look at it yet they were waiting for a tech to shave his behind before she could look at it vet will call me right back They said there was blood and feces mated in his fur funny cause I had bathed him and blew him dry right before I took him there. Soooo now we are waiting for a tech to shave him so she can look at him. Now we are going on seven hours. Long story long at least three more calls to get an update. Vet says when she finally calls " we'll there was a small cut at the top of his rectum but I don't think that's the cause I think it might " might" be an intestinal issue. Then she says has he been eating and drinking for you today I said " how would I know he's been there for eight hours. So I said did he drink while he was there her reply we didn't give him any food or water while he was here in case he needed surgery. Now I say he has not had any water for eight hours or any food. I was not so worried about food but the water was another concern. Soooo then she says " well we can give him fluids under the skin if you want. I say you mean like an IV she says yes. Now I am beyond just beyond my limit!!! So I say no just give him water! Now we are eight hours in. I finally get there to pick him up and wait another 20 mins.in the parking lot. I feel this place is under staffed and somewhat chaotic! Also very expensive but the expense was not on my mind it was the welfare of my dog. I would think twice about taking a dog there if you need good care for your pet. I more than understand that all things work differently now because of covid and I am normally a very patient person but I feel this was really over the top!!! read more

"I would not take my Dog there" or any other animal for that matter. This so called Veterinary center is nothing but a money trap. I waited over two hours past my appointment time before seeing a doctor. He looked at my dog, felt his leg and said he had to get an x-ray. After looking at the x-ray the doctor said it looked like a sprain, but watch him for the next few days. When I went to pay the bill, the charge for one x-ray, with three different people reading the x-ray and a fifteen minute doctor visit, the bill was $419.00. When I complained , they became very rude and offensive. So if any one takes their animal here they better bring a lot of money. read more

My mother brought her shih-Tzu in due to his eye coming out of his socket. They repaired it. Then, it happened again within weeks to the other eye. Again, it was put in. There was no mention of seeing a specialist. I called a specialist in the same vicinity because there was clearly something going on with this young dog of not even 2 years. We couldn't get an appointment for about 8 weeks with the specialist. In the meantime, one of the dog's eyes came out again. Each time this happened, it was a hefty bill of $750. The problem is that this happened more than once without being referred to a specialist. They visited the specialist today. The dog's eyes can be repaired for another surgery of $2,000. My problem and question with this is how much do the doctors truly care about the animals they treat? Even if you are not trained to complete such a surgery, one would hope that a person would refer you to someone who could. Why would you let an animal suffer three times with a chance of losing its vision? A simple response. Greed. read more

I share the recent sentiments of those who have previously posted here. My dog had surgery here five years ago for Lorenzo's paralysis. We were told she would lead a long, healthy life and there was no need for follow-up visits. Two weeks ago, she started gasping for air and we took her in only to find out, after three days in an incubator until someone could see her, that calcifications had formed around the surgical area. They performed surgery and she passed away. We went to pick up her ashes and they can't find her collar and name tags. I am crushed over losing her to begin with, but now this. I agree with Rachel - the staff could care less and were more interested in being able to go home on time. These are our loved ones - show some respect. read more

This Is by far the worst emergency center I have ever been to. The vet was absolutely rude and condescending because I did not have $5,000 immediately for emergency surgery. I have worked with many rescues and I have many friends and family who were willing to help me pay for his care. They would not accept more than one method of payment (they said it had to be paid by one check or one credit card not three). My dog was in severe pain he had a bowel obstruction, I didn't hesitate or wait, I left and went to Metropolitan (just down the road). Their office is much nicer and they treated me with respect and were more than willing to accept several payment methods. They saved my best friends life because they actually cared. read more
