I've read some of the disgruntled reviews posted here and cannot at all agree. A few months ago my 9 yr old GSD was transferred here from Tates Creek Animal hospital following an emergency bloat surgery with complications resulting in a punctured diaphragm. He spent 4 days with them in the ICU. Yes it was expensive, and yes the mark up really sucks... but the care and concern I received from the staff was 15/10. Not once did they "encourage me to put him down". I would've sold a kidney to save him and they knew to do whatever it took. I was updated around the clock. Day and night. My dog has separation anxiety and they set up a pen for him so he could hang out with them and played him bird noises. They made us comfortable when I came to visit multiple times a day. One of the staff members let me borrow a pen for him for months because he had to be kept quiet and still at home. She didn't know me, and didn't have to do that. They went the distance and they helped save him and get him home to me. The team texted me CONSTANTLY cheering for him. I am forever grateful to their doctors and staff that did everything they could for us. read more

My regular vet was out of town so I took my cat to MedVet. I was charged $2,900.00 for an IV for my cat that included potassium supplement. Calls to the vet for an update were ignored. No work up to identify and redress the underlying cause of of the low potassium was ever performed. The next day I brought my cat to his regular vet and our vet immediately diagnosed the issue, provided a potassium supplement and IV, and trained me how to administer the IV. My vet charged $45.00 for the IV and potassium supplement. MedVet is worthless. It's only skill is charging for services not provided under the guise of "urgent care" with no work up and no communication. read more

I understand that a 24/7 emergency pet clinic is a hard to come by business, but please avoid at all costs! The business just wants to scare you into spending more money with them. When I took my dog to the regular vet, they looked at the x rays provided and admitted that there was nothing concerning. We spent so much money on this business since we trusted they could help our family, only to find out that they were worried about money more. Please avoid MedVet in Lexington! Staff is kind, don't get me wrong. They showed care for my dog and I before I admitted him. They sedated my dog calling him 'obnoxious' and saying he had 'long term' fleas. My vet said that he has no sign of fleas, just some allergies. Instead of giving resources for allergies, they ridiculed me into believing I was not doing my job as a pet parent. Whether that was the intention of the doctor or not, it was a sensitive time for us and some kind of advice or kind words would have been appreciated. read more

We had to rush our elderly dog in on Memorial Day because he was having seizures that would not stop. They immediately got him hooked up on some rescue meds to help stop the seizures. Unfortunately, the seizures never stopped but only slowed down. We had to make the incredibly hard decision to let him go. From the moment we walked in the door to the time we left, everyone was kind, understanding and compassionate. They never rushed us in our decision or in the time we spent with him. They allowed us to cry, grieve and love on our Buddy. I appreciate the love and care they gave us. Then today, a week later after we had to put him down, they sent us a condolences card, signed by everyone in the office, with Buddys paw print and nose print and fur. I'm grateful. You have to be a vet yourself and know exactly everything about your animal before going in here, so really don't bother. they'll fix whatever you to fix but they won't go above and beyond to notice other conditions that are going on. They don't care about it unless if you care it and I just don't think that's how treatment should work. There were clearly other signs of other things going on. I believe they killed my dog. I provided her medical history that she was currently being treated for a recurring kidney infection and was on meds for that (she was fine until a couple hours after she ate her supper that night). I took her in because she had started excessively panting over the course of the evening and was very restless. They wouldn't let me go back with her while they performed their exam. They finally came back and told me she was in pain when they palpated her stomach. They suggested x-rays, bloodwork, a shot for pain and an anti-nausea med. I declined the bloodwork because it had been done the week before and was perfect. Seeing as I knew there was a possibility of bladder stones (my regular vet and I had discussed one week before), I agreed to the pain shot and anti-nausea meds and said I would go to my regular vet the next morning. They gave my girl methadone. When I woke up the next morning, she was in severe respiratory distress. I got her to my vet and he said what was happening to her had nothing to do with possible bladder stones and that it was entirely a respiratory issue. My vet started treating her immediately for possible aspiration pneumonia. He called me about 3 hours later to tell me she didn't survive. I haven't confirmed it yet with my vet, but I believe Methadone was the exact WRONG DRUG to have given her because it suppresses respiration. This was a dog that was happy, active and healthy up to this point. read more

We brought our almost 11 year old goldendoodle to MedVet last night knowing that our biggest fear would likely be confirmed. Dr. Jane Davidson was so wonderful. She explained her findings, options to offer hope but also when asked, was honest with us about his condition. I cannot tell you how comforting it was to have such a genuine caring doctor who empathized with us and gave us hope for a little more time to spoil our fur baby. The entire staff was helpful and kind making the experience much easier. We highly recommend MedVet Lexington when the need arises to care for your pets. read more

Brought our cat in after he swallowed a string, they charged us $770, and wanted around 3000 to watch him over 24 hours. Ended up doing a follow up a day later at our home vet who only charged us $63 for an x-ray follow up (stating that their emergency department and general only charge $170 for a new request for X-rays) for only a total of $148. This place is taking advantage of desperate pet owners and charging them more than necessary. The doctors and staff were great, but the owners clearly only have an interest in making money off desperate individuals. Do not, and I mean, do not take your pets here unless you plan to take out a loan. If you truly read any of your reviews, do not bother leaving a reply, as clearly you all have a history of up charging your customers. We brought in our 8 month old kitten for stomach problems. We were seen right away. Staff was friendly, very informative, patient and communicative. We had an awesome doctor (Dr. McGuire) who kept us informed and updated on our kitty. Kitty had to be kept overnight for observation since they thought she had a foreign body in her stomach. I was skeptical of bringing her here because of other reviews I read online but honestly I thought the service was fine. It was very stressful having to bring in a pet to the ER and waiting for X-ray results was just the worst. Luckily, kitty was ok- it was just some colitis and not a foreign body. It was insanely EXPENSIVE. We had to pay a $3,000 deposit for kitty's overnight stay. We ended up only paying $2,500 but still very expensive. We did leave with medicine and had a follow up with her normal aww vet a few days later. read more

If your pet is in need of help I highly recommend trusting your gut and knowing your patient right before accepting any services here. The attitude of the tech and doctor changed completely after I refused their $700+ recommendations on "diagnostics" as they kept saying to decide what was really wrong. Their range of ideas went from a small bacterial infection to a life threatening emergency. But they couldn't possibly tell me which they were leaning more towards unless I went through with the $700+ testing. Although there were several kind staff members here, I was extremely displeased by how rude one of the vet techs was to me. At one point she even had the audacity to say to me "I have to get back to the floor there are other patient's here with more critical conditions" than my dog. She had no patient care skills at ALL, another point she even tried explaining to me what an x ray was, girl I know Overall I was not happy with how I was treated here and will not be bringing my dog back. Took my dane here for emergency BLOAT. The initial vet did the first of two operations and was optimistic. She said we got him there quick and his spleen seemed intact. I was then essentially told that the vet doing the second operation (due to shift change) was not as good as the vet leaving. My dog sadly passed during surgery. Given the first vet's positive evaluation, it's hard to walk away without doubts about what went wrong... To add to this nightmare, we were informed by the words "Your dog coded on the table." They showed very little empathy and gave no information on what happened. Only take your pet here if you have NO other options. An absolute disgrace. read more

My cat had an emergency late Tuesday night and I was looking for an emergency vet to take her to. Medvet was the closest and would be able to see me the fastest, but they also wouldn't let me in to be with my cat. My cat is very anxious and doesn't do well when I'm not around her for vet appointments, so she was ferocious and violent to the staff since I wasn't present. Due to this, Medvet sent me away saying they wouldn't be able to see my cat. Medvet cares more about covid regulations than they care about the welfare of animals. This is extremely disappointing and I don't recommend anyone go here. read more

We rushed our cat to MedVet after another emergency vet told me it was going to be an 8 hour wait at 9 pm and that I had to leave her there with only one doctor and one tech. When I got to MedVet, they put us in a room immediately and had someone to come check on us within 10 minutes. Wasn't an emergent as other cases could have been, but something my normal vet suggested for after hours. Every member of staff that talked to me was very personable and made the experience a lot less nerve wracking than it was walking through the door. The cost was about $800, but I would have done anything to make my cat feel better. About 24 hours after leaving MedVet and this is the best shape my cat has been in since over 72 hours. I was in and out within 5 hours and had constant communication the entire time. read more

My sister was told by the office manager that the initial $3,500 paid for his treatment plan would cover his second visit. However, after very rude and caustic comments from a vet tech about our dog, we were presented with another bill for $2,500, which was paid. We will never darken MedVet's doorstep again. read more

Do not take your pet here, they are in it to profit off your torn heartstrings. Go to Bluegrass Veterinary Specialists or Advanced Animal Care in Richmond. In our case BVS did not have the ability to treat our animal at the time, and we were trying to decide whether to pay MedVet $3000 (not including possible treatments) or euthanize our cat due to cost. Thankfully when I called BVS back to see if what we needed was available, they recommended Advanced Animal Care in Richmond. We ended up paying 1/3 of the cost quoted by MedVet for all the same tests, medications, and a longer stay including treatments. They're an absolute joke and the only positive thing out of the whole experience was the nice receptionist. If MedVet had truly been our only option our cat would be dead right now due to their excessive cost. read more

Brought our cat here with a potential broken leg. We arrived at 7 pm they showed no interest in checking her and said it was probably just an abcess so our cat was not a priority. We were told she would get treatment immediately as far as pain meds but an hour later they told us they were just about to give her pain meds. After nearly 5 hours they told us she has a broken leg in 2 places, threw on so more charges. We asked to see our cat they said we couldn't as they were bandaging her up. We are the only ones here with a cat. A cat begins yelling so loud it is heard through out the hospital. They absolutely did Not treat our pet as their own. We have now been here 6 1/2 hours waiting in the parking lot because they locked us out of the hospital and I'm sure by the way they were throwing numbers we will be charged $1500 to $2000 for a splint, I'm so aggravated right now. Awful, awful, awful. At 11pm, my dog ingested arthritis medication and I took him there for possible poisoning. I was met at the door by someone who appeared to be dressed in a hazmat suit, replete with face shield and N95 mask. OK, whatever. I was told that i was not allowed in the building. He asked for my dog's symptoms and other information. I told him that I would like to speak with the vet because often things get lost in transition. I was told no, that the only time I would be allowed in the building was for an end-of-life procedure. I told him to go f*** himself and I went to another clinic. Talking about this on the Nextdoor site, many others told me of being treated very badly, of a clinic that is only interested in money, and of staff that were rude and uncaring. When my furbaby was experiencing some abdominal pain, I sought the services of an emergency vet. They were very organized and professional. Due to Covid, I was not allowed to enter the building, but set outside in my car. While waiting for a diagnosis, I was given several diagnostic options, but many of them were really expensive without really treating the issue. I declined many services and left after paying super high prices for a pain injection. If your pet can make it through the night, I'd recommend you go to your local vet office for better options. read more

Our one year old lab unfortunately stepped on something sharp that was hidden in the snow and had extensive bleeding from his paw. Not being able to get this to stop at home, we took him to MedVet to get help with making the bleeding stop or slow down. The entire time he continued to walk around without any pain and was his happy self. The woman at the front was wonderful and very kind. The first tech automatically asked for permission to give our dog injections for pain (I'm sure this was a routine question) and we declined because it obviously was not necessary. Our wait time was not bad at all, but we were given two options while in the room. The first was that our dog needed to be sedated to get sutures and that cost would have been $1900! Or we could be sent home with a bandage and antibiotics for $450. To me these options had a drastic difference. We immediately declined having him sedated because they could not explain how bad the laceration really was. And failed to mention that sutures probably wouldn't have lasted since it was in between his toes. They didn't even attempt to clean some of the blood off my white dog while he was there for over 2 hours. When we made it to our vet the following morning we were told that his injured paw didn't even need a bandage because it had stopped bleeding on its own and he would simply need a cone while it healed. I went home the night before feeling very guilty about my decision because of the reaction I received when I declined the $1900 option. If you are to go to medvet they will take care of your pet, but be weary if their over priced services are necessary before you are able to get to your regular vets office. read more

. On December 4th 2023, We rushed our jack russell terrier here after we found her on the side of the road after being hit by a car. Her right back leg was completely snapped and only hanging on by the skin of her leg. The leg was the only injury that we could clearly see. We searched around for a vet to take her to that was open and after 20 minutes of searching and being told we could take her to a place in Louisville for $1,200 up front, we found MedVet. I called and explained the situation and they said we could bring our dog to be examined. They said that if she was deemed critical, they would see her immediately but if she was not critical, it would be a 6 hour wait. I also asked how much it would be upfront to walk in and the lady over the phone told me $150. It was the cheapest place we found and the only one open so of course we loaded our dog up and brought her to MedVet. Upon arrival, they told us to call them and let them know we were in the parking lot so they could come out and get our dog. I'm thankful she was not bleeding out because we waited for them to walk out the door after watching them just standing in the door way staring at us. They come and got our dog and took her inside and the lady at the front desk gave us a room. The lady at the front desk was very nice and understanding. After waiting for about 2 hours, the vet tech came into the room to ask us questions to get a better idea of what they were working with. We asked if he knew anything about how she was doing and all he could tell us was that they recommended "end of life care" for situations like this. He left and then we sat there for about another hour and finally the Vet came in to talk to us. She told us our dog's leg needs to be amputated, which we were not surprised by and was completely understanding with the decision. They told us that they could not amputate her leg while at MedVet and that we would need to take our dog to our primary vet. We asked them what we should do in the moment and they said they would keep her overnight to monitor and we would pick her up in the morning. We agreed to keep her there and waited on a staff member to write up our bill. We asked if we could see her before we left and they said we could. We were waiting for about an hour before someone came to give us our bill, which was $1,400 with no breakdown of what we were actually paying for. We had to pay that before we could leave. After waiting for about 30 minutes they finally let us back in the room to see her. She looked so scared, but we were glad she was on medication to not feel any pain. While we were in the back, the vet told us that she found that our dog has a really significant heart murmur. This was not shocking news since our dog is around 15 years old. She then told us that dogs with this kind of heart condition our not recommended to have surgery, as their heart cannot handle the anesthesia. This was the 2nd time our dog being euthanized was mentioned. Mind you, our dog was not verbally expressing or showing she was in pain. She was wagging her tail on the car ride to the vet because she was excited to go for a ride. I know I am not a vet and I cannot tell everything about animals, but our dog was nowhere near the stage of being euthanized. We told them we would be back in the morning to get her and we were thankful she was not in pain for the time being. We got there around 10:30 pm and left around 2:00 am. I got a phone call around 4 am telling us that they did some x-rays and they found that her pelvis is broken and her left back leg needed to be amputated too. This was the 3rd time being euthanized was mentioned. They said this was their best advice. We told her we wanted to at least get our dog to our primary vet before we make any decisions. Would give zero starts if possible. Absolutely disgusted with this so called animal hospital we brought our cat in after breaking her leg. Now I get this is an ER and thing will me overpriced but to get charged an extra $900 because an arrogant surgeon thought he could do it on his own and took longer is bullshit. We were told do we have to bring her back to get her bandage changed. I asked multiple times do we have to bring her back to MedVet and will we be charged. Multiple times I was told we had to bring her back to Medvet and they were pretty sure since she got her surgery here there shouldn't be a charge. Well we brought her in and they started charging us $40 fine. About week 5 we get charger $100 and when they investigate they find that they not only charged us twice but have been "undercharging us and we should consider our selfs lucky for getting a discount " we were gaslighted when they told us they alway encourage that we take our animals to a family vet since they are just an emergency hospital. When its time to get her cast taken off we figured we finish up with them since its the last visit anyways to be told they want to charge us an additional $400 to take xrays that was never discussed when this started. I am not upset at the cost I am upset that things were poorly communicated and they lied to us. MedVet claim to care about your animal but they care more about your wallet! P.S. We got her cast taken off else where for much less and they discovered that under the cast looked like it was never cleaned and her claws had curled to the point the they almost reached back into her paw read more

I was told on Friday that my baby girl had cancer. Sunday night we were getting ready for bed and she started throwing up bad. Something caused her to have trouble breathing. I panicked and took off to get her help. Everybody at med vet was very nice but didn't seem to interested in helping her. They just kept saying she was to weak and her oxygen was too low and that's why she couldn't breath. But they kept bringing up putting her down. They brought her to me to try to decide what to do. I couldn't stand seeing her like that but man how I wish I had picked her up and brought her home cause I honestly think she would still be alive if I had just left instead of letting them kill my baby. She was my only reason to exist. I love you baby girl and I am so heartbroken I haven't stopped crying since. I wish I had never taken you there!!! If only I could get a second chance read more

0 unfortunately is not an option. We brought our dog in due to uncontrollable vomiting, food, water, pills, nothing would stay down. We were quoted 1,100 dollars for the ultrasound I agreed immediately, following up with if she can be saved, save her, if not we don't want her to suffer. We received a call a couple hours later saying she was no longer vomiting and the findings were positive, no bowel obstruction, and while there was a nodule on her lung, it was symptom free and only an incidental finding. We were told that she was able to come home and that we should follow up with our family veterinarian and said that since I refused lab work they were unsure of the cause. First off that is ridiculous, if I am willing to pay 1,100 dollars to have an exploratory ultrasound, of course I would be willing to have labs done on my baby girl, but that is beside the point. This is an emergency vet, and my baby was in worse shape after leaving than when she arrived, and after a little over 24 hours of pure agony and suffering, she passed in the arms of my wife. I can never prove it is true, but I can guarantee that all of the test that were performed in vain were far more profitable than a merciful euthanization. This is not about the money, I would give any amount to have my baby girl back, this is about the 24 hours of pure agony that this poor creature went through all so a vet corporation can make a profit. read more

Our regular vet informed us that even though our senior dog was in pain and breathing irregularly, they could not see us until the next day. MedVet saw us immediately, provided testing and options, and were incredibly sensitive throughout the entire ordeal. We will no longer be clients at the other clinic; the team at MediVet was there when they were not. read more

I should say first calling a 24 hour vet usually means bad news... I realize that. But after 5 experiences with just 2 of my boys I cannot in good faith support this business. I have never had a good experience at MedVet... I realize the situation and you need someone to blame, but I truly cannot fathom such a nonchalant establishment. Over 3 years ago, I was told we need to travel to Cincy for a $5000 surgery bc they don't have the proper machine, but their sister company will take care of us. For the record, they said without surgery my boy wouldn't make it 6 months, after our home vet, he's 3 years older... big boy is 16! More recent, my other pup was a bit weak in the legs and just seemed off. He'd been there before, but apparently they had no history and wouldn't listen to the symptoms I was describing. Told us to leave, it would take an hour. We can only come inside if they put him down. Get it, sad, heart broken, not mad. Scared really. After saying he just had a low heart rate they sell us some meds and tests and $800 later we can take him home. Within an hour, he passed out sleeping next to me for a nap. He didn't wake Now realize this happens, but after they tell me he just has a slow heart rate (big issue you'd think) she says give him this syringe of meds and more blah blah... I'm fairly certain she cared, but youth, lack of listening and possible Inexperience sounds mean, but about health history no one cared. I felt such detachment from the vet and lack of empathy. Understand Covid and I can only go inside if putting our pup down, but after they deemed ok we waited for them 30 mins to bring him out. Bottom line, I've known 2 vet techs that have worked there and they didn't last long bc they seemed more concerned about the animals and this place is as a whole does not. I realize in an emergency, you want what's best for your kiddos, your fur babies. My pup they said was fine and they drugged up and charged us with a bunch of meds never took, he died while we were napping less than 2 hours after the vet visit. Believe it or not, I'm heartbroken and I'm angry, but more bc I lost my shadow, my lil man. And I truly think he'd be better off if I hadn't gone there. If you love your pups as much as us, save your fur babies and don't get here. read more

I recently had to make the terribly hard decision of having my cat friend of 20 years euthanized. I went to MedVet mainly because it was one of the few places open during Memorial Day weekend. One does not always get the most personable service with emergency clinics, but ALL the people at MedVet were among the most compassionate I've ever dealt with. The receptionists, technicians, and vets were all incredibly nice and sensitive to what I was going through. I was VERY impressed with their professionalism. Their fees are also completely reasonable. read more

I took my older sick cat to Medvet after her regular vet recommended 24 hour care that her practice was unable to give. She was admitted to ICU on Wed. 9/22 at about 6:00 pm (as far as I know). I waited in my car for nearly four hours for an update. Once I knew what was happening, I asked to have a copy of her care plan emailed to me. I never received it. I had lost my cell ohone in the rush to get kitty to the vet and gave my mom's number to use instead. Early the next morning, I gave Medvet the correct number which was used by the vet Thursday night for updates. But on Friday morning, Dr. Novak left two messages at my mom's number that she didn't see until later that day. When I called for an update at about 8:30 Friday morning, Dr. Novak informed me that they had tried to put in another central line and they had put in a feeding tube. Had I known, I would never have had this done to my baby. She was 14 years old and after having a terrible set back overnight, I was sure she was not going to live and I didn't want her to be poked and prodded any more. After getting voicemail for the wrong person twice, why didn't Dr, Novak try the other number, listed as primary according to staff, to talk to me?? After my cat was euthanized, I asked for an itemized statement. I was told it would be emailed to me--I have not received it. I still don't know what I paid or what exactly was done for my kitty. I'm extremely disappointed and would never recommend this practice. There are others in Lexington to choose. I have to say that the other vets and staff I spoke with were very caring, however, Dr. Novak was hurried and gave me the impression he was bothered by having to update me about my kitty both times I spoke with him. read more

I brought my cat here, got her checked in and waited 3 hours before I asked the gal at the front desk for an update. There standard answer to everyone bringing there animal there is "It's about a six hour wait", not real encouraging. I was told "your cat may be the healthiest animal back there, we treat the most sever emergencies first." This was not reassuring to me and I think they need to develop BETTER standard answers to give clients who are as stressed out as their animal, after all, EVERYBODY coming in there has an EMERGENCY. I understand the work and care that goes on here is stressful and I commend people who can work in that environment. The first Dr. I had was NOVAK that serviced my cat and sent me home with her after being there 7 hours. I stayed up all night with her and she was in agony, I returned early that am and got another Dr. named Tarter, she attended to my cat asap and did a simple ultra sound to find out her kidney was enlarged and blocked and she couldn't urinate ,it needed to be removed but my cat was too weak to withstand that surgery. The decision to euthanize was carried out. VERY SAD...I wish Dr. Novak would have done an ultra sound on my cat the first time, it would've saved pain and Greif for me and my beloved cat. I was charged $350 for the first visit and $250 for the second. read more

I had a little Chihuahua named Jax he has been at this place twice, ones for getting in the middle of a dog fight and got hurt pretty badly but recovered thank goodness this last time he was rush there for breathing problems he was there all weekend The staff and vets were very friendly. They kept me updated and they did all they could. Jax had a lot going on with him and there was no recovering this time when I had to make that hardest decision I got to hold my baby for the last time they were all so very respectful and made him as comfortable as possible. he went peacefully in my arms. if you truly love your baby, the money does not matter just know emergency 24/7 vet it's going to be more costly Thin going to your regular vet . My sweet Kallie (13 year old cockapoo) was in CHF. I brought her to MedVet for an emergency hospitalization after a not-so-great experience at another hospital. Although she did not get to come home again, I was so blessed by the staff at MedVet. They were kind, caring, thorough (even at 2am), and compassionate. They were also very professional. They will continue to be my emergency hospital. I I've 2.5 hours away, and work for a small veterinary clinic in my hometown. We love MedVet! I grateful they were their for my Kallie through one of our most heartbreaking days. I will forever be thankful for the staff at MedVet, and they care they provided for my sweet, precious girl. read more

We brought our clearly dying 12-year-old Weimaraner in between 11-1130 p.m. on Saturday, September 23rd after calling our vet in Georgetown with the understanding they were closed with the message to contact this clinic for emergencies. When we contacted them via phone, we were informed that an evaluation would be done, and if she was in critical condition, she would be able to be euthanized quickly, but if not, we may have to wait 4 hours for the vet to see us. We were hesitant to bring her to a new clinic for something this sensitive, but after seeing such positive recent reviews we decided to do something rather than nothing and bring her in and have her euthanized. Upon our arrival, we reiterated the phone conversation with the front desk clerk, and we had to sign a "5-7" form which gave me pause but permitted them to conduct whatever medical needs may arise during their assessment of our pet. We put another pet down 6 months ago, and it was evident this one was ready to depart, so we were certain they would simply put her down and we would be on our way. We waited and waited and waited. Hours later, we discovered she was in an oxygen tank and was resting and breathing better, leading us to believe she wasn't as critical as we had originally thought. The doctor finally came out and told us her "diagnosis" which just seemed like a medical reason as to why she was dying. He wanted to keep her between 12-24 hours on an IV and said he did not feel comfortable letting us take her home. When we told him we didn't feel comfortable paying what they were asking, they finally allowed us to take her home with an abundance of medications and the stipulation we would take her to our family vet first thing in the morning. When we got our dog home, she was in the exact same condition as she was when we left the house... mind you this visit was 5 hours long and the only way we were able to go was by raising a fuss to pay and get our dog back, which is entirely unnecessary. We understand it's an emergency vet, but the expectation of "being back in 5 minutes" was set several times and was left unmet every time while we were left waiting for between 30 minutes to an hour each time. We finally made it home around 4:45 am, and after 3.5 hours of sleep had to take our dog to the vet in the morning @9 to inevitably have her put down. It's disheartening to know that the most recommended emergency vet in Lexington allowed our beloved pet to suffer and die an additional 11 hours longer than she needed to. When we woke up in the morning she was lying outside in the same condition and it absolutely broke our hearts... I'm highly disappointed in the decision-making held by the staff in this establishment and will never take another pet here nor will I recommend anyone to bring theirs here for proper care. read more

My elderly cat developed severe dehydration on Labor Day. Our regular emergency vet said there would be an hour wait because the doctor was in the middle of a procedure, so we tried MedVet. Due to the pandemic, we turned Milly over to a technician at the door; she said the vet would be calling us shortly to tell us what was going on. An hour and 45 minutes later, a tech called to ask questions and tell us that the doctor was examining Milly and would call shortly with news. An hour later, the vet called to confirm that she was dehydrated and would call back with a treatment plan. Almost an hour after that, the vet called to say that He'd run tests and she had a bad urinary tract infection. Since it was now midnight and my ride had to go to work the next morning, we bargained for an overnight stay with an IV and antibiotics, but I had to make a $850 down payment for treatment. We picked her up the next day; total bill was $1700. While we waited out in the car, we heard several desperate pet owners bargaining with the technicians to get their down payments down to a point where they could afford to start treatment for their pets. Milly is alive and home, but I doubt that we'll ever go back to MedVet. read more

My daughter and her bf took their dog here tonight after noticing the dog seemed dizzy. 4 times the front desk accused the kids of giving the dog drugs. The office clerk tried to sell these 2 UK college students on $257 for a urine test for THC and $2400 in other tests and procedures but couldn't provide even a potential diagnosis after they had waited nearly 3 hours outside in their car. I only wish they'd checked Yelp before they took the dog there. Not a pleasant experience for them at all. read more

my female chihuahua was passing blood from her lady parts. This was on a Saturday afternoon. The only place I could find open was MedVet. Before my dog was treated they required $2100.00 up front. After about 3 hours my dog was diagnosed with pyometra, which is basically an infected uterus and she needed to be spayed. They couldn't guarantee that she would survive the surgery and even suggested that according to the ultrasound that she might have cancer, but that they would have to do a biopsy to make sure. In order to do the surgery it was going to cost an additional $3,500.00 - $5,000.00. We couldn't afford that, we were already in debt $2300. They charged another $200 when my husband picked my dog up on Monday morning. He took her to our vet who performed the surgery that day and kept her overnight. He charged us $450.00. My dog is well now and doing great. Medvet is in the business only to make money. Please if you have any other option don't take your pet there unless you're willing to pay an UnGodly amount of money without any reassurance that your animal will be okay. read more
