We found PR online and called to explain the situation. The person on the phone acted like our chameleon was basically near death and we needed to rush in for an appt. But, before we could schedule they required an over the phone payment of $65. I've never had this with any other vet, or other business for that matter. We were told this would be refunded if cancelled 24 hrs out. We paid the fee, scheduled an appt, then called other exotic pet vets. Found 2 more nearby with good reviews who were both less dramatic about the situation and more than happy to set appointments without charging prior to meeting. My wife called back the following day (prior to the 24 hr window) to cancel our appointment. When she asked for the refund she was told they will not refund her card but instead mail a check. A week passed and no check. My wife called to inquire and was told the check was sitting on the desk and would go out that day. Another week passed, still no refund. She called again and this time told "we send groups of refund checks every few weeks. Yours will go out soon." Another week, no check. This time I drove to the office and was met by a woman (Donna Ross, office manager) who turned very defensive when I mentioned I was there to inquire about our refund. She curtly stated it was sent out two days prior so go home and it should be in our mailbox in the next day or two. Another week passed and still no refund. I returned to the office again and was met by a sweet girl in the front. I explained why I was there and she went to get Donna Ross. I could hear their conversation in her office including her complaining about the fact that I was back. When she approached, there was no pleasantries, no "I'm sorry this has taken so long". Instead she just snapped, "I told you I mailed the check and since I can't control the mail you're just gonna have to wait it out. If we get it back I'll call you". Very rude, very unprofessional. At this point we were at 30 days from our original call and charge. I asked them to write me a check and cancel the other. She told me she couldn't and I would have to talk to the doctor if I wanted to wait. Which I did. Eventually Tim Gravatte approached to discuss. I'll spare the lengthy details, but have an audio file if anyone would like to listen. Long story short, this guy was just as unprofessional as the first. Our only crime in this situation was setting an appt with this place, paying the charge they insisted upon, then requesting a refund as they said they would do when no services were rendered. We were basically treated as a hostile witness throughout this whole experience, as if we had wronged them in some way. It was quite strange actually. There was never an apology or really even human decency with any of the interactions. Mr. Gravatte refused to write a check and just kept repeating if the refund doesn't arrive in another 2 weeks I would need to drive back over to the office and then he would write me a check. So at this point, I feel like we should charge them for our time we have wasted on this ridiculous scenario. Terrible experience and still no refund. On the bright side, our chameleon is healed and doing well thanks to another vet who was professional, pleasant, and definitely someone I would return to. Penny Royal Vet on the other hand is a place I would definitely recommend to stay far away from. I have since talked with others who have had similar experiences as mine. Proceed with caution.

In the midst of the severe icy weather on February 6, 2026, my husband took our dogs to the vet because one of them had a broken nail that needed attention. They came in and took that dog through to the exam room and our other dog, #Skipper, slipped through that door, ran through the staff area, through and open door into another exam room that was empty, out that door to the lobby and out the front door. It was snowing and very cold and we never found our dog again, despite searching daily for over a month. In the first few minutes after he ran from the building, a few staff went to the parking lot and around the building to help find him and filled out a missing dog report with animal control. We never found our dog. After that day, we never heard from the vet's office again. Not a phone call, not a mention on their social media pages, not a "please look for our lost friend" announcement. Nothing. The day he went missing we searched all afternoon in the freezing cold. Crying and upset, I went back to their office asking for advice and help at 5:45 pm just before they closed - as the temperature was dropping to the teens. The desk attendant said, "I'm sure he's fine and he'll turn up". Losing Skipper was horrible. Having no contact or concern showed from our vet (who bears some responsibility due to lax security and open doors in his disappearance) made it even worse. We've still heard nothing from them, five months later. So, consider this when looking for a caregiver for your family pet. If you love your pet like family, you should be able to count on your vet for support even should the worst happen.

Rude. One of my cats was given meds for parasites and the young lady put it on in the wrong spot. You could look on the back of her neck and see that it was too far to the right. The whole point of having it right at the nape is so the animal can't get to it. My assumption is that she was able to get to it, because she threw up and had diarrhea all night. I wasn't told before or after that this med could cause this sort of side effect. Thank goodness she seems okay now Anyway, this place wasn't terrible. The young lady working the receptionist desk was very kind and polite, the young lady who checked out my animals was not impolite or rude toward me, but handled my cats roughly and misplaced the meds and did not give info on possible side effects before or after administering, and the older man (my guess is he is the actual Vet, but no one introduced themselves or gave their titles) was very rude and dismissive toward me by walking away while I was speaking. I don't take disrespect lightly so I'll never go back to this place. Be nicer and more respectful to your customers and be gentler with the animals.
