Rip off - will overcharge, and not deliver based on a preset schedule (multiple issues). Was recently charged $3.25/gal for daily rate when the state average right now is $2.68. They are consistently priced much higher than the competition, but that doesn't come with a higher quality oil, customer service, or anything else. I see a common theme in all oil company reviews that the oil and service egregiously priced etc etc. Oil is expensive, maintenance is expensive, those are givens, but thus far, I've felt Medway Oil is a dependable company and has provided us great service. My husband and I had a horrible winter last year with our old oil company. We had a new baby and it was stressful to say the least. We had to make countless calls to get the tank filled and it always came down to the wire before a storm. We also had issues with hot water all winter and the other company essentially told us to "turn the temperature dial" on the burner and charged us $300 for this courtesy. Monday night we had NO hot water at all. Medway Oil came right over, diagnosed the issue and had a repairman there the next morning. A few years when home heating oil prices were through the roof I searched around for deals on oil prices and these guys seemed to have the best prices at the time. I purchased oil from them on a pay as needed basis since it was close to mid March and there was no need to have a long term contract to purchase oil. Using my credit card I purchased oil from these guys twice. In late May I get another bill from these folks saying I owe them $600 bucks for bailing out on their oil service contract...huh? Needless to say paying them $600 bucks for nothing wasn't happening. Medway Oil is a large oil and heating service in the Milford/Medway area and many people use them. We noticed that our oil tank was low and we had ordered oil from another company but it wasn't going to arrive until Tuesday so my wife called Medway oil since they were local to see if we could get an emergency delivery to make sure that our children were not without heat during the upcoming snowstorm. Answering service was fine and they relayed the message to the on call person who called back and could not have been ruder to my wife. She tried to explain our situation and he rudely said "what did you buy it online or something?" and almost before she could answer he rudely said "we only service our own customers" and hung up on her before she could tell him that we are new to town and aren't really loyal to any particular oil company. I can't imagine treating a potential customer this way or even another human being for that matter. I know one place we can check off the list next time we need to fill our tank. read more

Medway oil is currently priced at $3.25 gal when most local oil companies are priced at $2.70.. they also charge $236 for oil burner service (180-190 is average). I called up to cancel my contract that I've had for 3 years and when they asked why, I replied "you're prices are not competitive to the industry average" she said "ok" in an agreeing tone and said she'd remove me from the auto delivery list. Seeing since they made no effort in the least to keep me as a long standing customer, I'd say they aknowledge they are over priced and submit to the fact they make no effort to make me happy. Hello all. I'm hoping that this will be useful to someone else in town... Our (wonderful) builder used Medway Oil & Propane for our tank and we are now under contract with them. They charge significantly more than other companies and they refuse to reduce their rates - we're a "captive audience." Apparently we use an "average" amount of propane per month. The difference between companies amounts to approximately $130 per month - not insignificant. Our builder is not planning on working with them again and I thought I might be able to save others the same difficulty we've had. read more

We were with a budget company, when they ran out of oil right before a big snowstorm, leaving our house cold. I was new to MA with my infant. I called around and other companies didn't return my call. Jeffrey, the owner of Medway oil came out that day and filled my tank. He took time to explain to me how oil heat & our heating system worked. He was so nice and provided customer service that is rare to find! Since that day, we have been a customer for the past 6 years, and their excellent customer service continues to amaze. Anytime we have an issue , they come right out. When our furnace broke, they were in our driveway in 15 minutes. All the staff has been very nice & professional. I hear there may be slightly cheaper places, but for incredible service & reliability we are sticking with them. read more

Came home from vacation and our furnace was broke down. Call Medway Oil and owner called us back. Ask us if we had an account with him a few years ago and di we cancel? We did because we weren't satisfied with the terms of the contract they wanted us to sign and couldn't get the follow up answers. No big deal. We just moved on. However, because we cancelled a few years he told us he wouldn't help us out. This was on a Friday night, it was wicked cold all weekend, and he just couldn't bring himself to get over it. Long story short Juliens couldn't come through when we stupidly ran out on the eve of a major Northeaster. My wife called this company and the owner, was very concerned about what their "competitor" Juliens was doing and gave the same type of excuses and was very unprofessional. We thought we had a good thing with Medway and they've been fine on oil and propane. We had them out to do routine maintenance and inspection a week or so ago. Today, the AC cuts out. I call, and turns out that, unlike the other area companies, even though THEY serviced the unit , they don't do AC repairs on the weekend. None of the other area contractors will service the unit without being on their contract. Don't use them. They have no clue. I needed oil and owed them money. I called to pay my bill and pay to get oil and they told me they sent my bill to collections. I had been paying them a little each month and skipped a month so I don't understand why it went to collections when I had been paying them. When I called they said they wouldn't take my money. Spoke to Jeffery and he stated the service tech was at our house for 50 minutes according to their GPS tracking, the 20 minutes my wife stated was an estimate. He never disputed the part cost of $49 Basically after some discussion he agreed to reduced the bill by $100 to a total of $223. With a 100% markup on the retail cost of the capacitor $49 x2 = $98, that leaves $125 for the 50 minutes at are home which equates to $150/hr without travel time. This rate is more in line with what I would expect and I agreed to pay the $225 by sending a check by the end of the day. It bothers really bothers me why I needed to go thought this and will certainly never use them again. read more

My fianc and I recently purchased our first home in Norfolk, MA, which has an oil heating system, and a stove and clothes drier fueled by propane. When we first moved in, my fianc contacted Jeffrey Mushnick of Medway Oil Co., Inc. to inspect our heating system and give us a quote on home heating oil. Upon his inspection, Mr. Mushnick informed us we needed around $2,000.00 in work done to our heating system "to get the situation rectified and safe." Being on a tight budget as first time homeowners, we contacted two additional companies (Sinclaire Oil & Heating, Inc. and Horan Oil Corp.; both of which were a pleasure to deal with) to get their opinions on our heating system. Both companies inspected our heating system and miraculously didn't notice the issues which, according to Mr. Mushnick, would cost around $2,000.00 to rectify and make safe. For obvious reasons, we decided not to go with Medway Oil Co., Inc. On December 5, 2007, we received an email from Mr. Mushnick indicating as follows: "Since you are not using Medway Oil as a fuel oil supplier and have our propane tank on your property you are now subject to a $90.00 per year low usage fee. If you had used us for fuel oil we waive that fee. The office will mail you a bill for that amount. If you do not wish to pay this fee then please call the office to have the tank removed." We thought that this was only fair, and expected to receive a bill from the company. However, just two weeks and two days later (December 21, 2007), we came home from grocery shopping and found that our more than half-full propane tank had been removed by Mr. Mushnick; without ever having sent a bill or extending the courtesy of a telephone call. Upon contacting Mr. Mushnick and asking for an explanation, he told us we would have to pay a "removal fee" to get the tank back, and he wouldn't return the tank "until sometime next week." This was on Friday December 21, and we were planning on having a housewarming/Christmas Eve party on Monday, December 24. Without the ability to cook, we had to cancel our party at the last minute. Despite having contacted numerous companies, we were unable to get a replacement tank, and therefore unable to cook or do laundry, for two weeks (which included Christmas and New Years). Mr. Mushnick failed to pay us for the propane he took along with his tank, and it cost us in excess of $350.00 to have a new tank delivered and installed. Have used them for a few years. Always easy to deal with... and service has been excellent. Never let us down with a regular schedule for heating oil delivery, and made a quick service call when our furnace died. They also run a good propane refill deal for gas grills in the summer. read more

Truly appalled. My family is new to Medway and they have come on our property without our permission or knowledge and disconnected our propane tank. Being 8.5 months pregnant and having a 2 year old, this is incredibly inconvenient - I can't cook or dry our laundry. Not to mention there was no warning or notice of them doing this! We were completely caught off guard. I have a washer full of soaking wet newborn clothes and a dinner half prepped on the counter that I now need to throw away and they have refused to come out and help us tonight and said they would only turn it back on if we sign a contract. What a terrible, terrible impression for a local business to leave on a new resident! We will certainly be considering other propane vendors over them. So disappointing. read more

I had Medway Oil for a few years. Their service prices are a little high, but the service was good. The servicemen were polite too. Things kind went downhill when asked about heating our pool. The prices were high, almost 2 dollars more per gallon for propane. I told them I got a cheaper company (Ostermann) and they said this is their price. So thats fine. Then this year, I never got the paperwork to get into the cap plan. So I called in October to ask if they're still doing it and the women on the phone was really rude about it. I said I'd been a customer for several years and I'll pay to get into it. I hadn't had any deliveries since July, so I didnt think it was a big deal. I told her I was going to shop around because I'd gotten hit once paying market price. I found someone who would let me in on their cap plan, and they sold their propane cheaper too. Medway Oil then charge me almost $100 dollars to come get my tank. I get that they need to make money, but I felt nickle and dimed by them. I was really put off by the rude people in the office. THIEVES CROOKS CRIMINALS! Can't believe how this company runs its business! New to town I called to have my oil tank filled. The lady I spoke with said they could deliver and asked if I was interested in an automatic delivery plan and service plan. I said I was but needed to compare costs and offerings before signing up. She scheduled my initial deliver and then no one called. A few weeks later there was an oil delivery which I did not need or authorize. I called and said I didn't want to pay for it as I did not sign up nor did I need oil. The lady I spoke with said she would talk to the owner and call me back. week goes by, no call back but what I received in the mail yesterday was a collection notice from a collection agency for my oil bill! So rather than trying to work with a potential customer they don't call back like they said they would and send me to a collection agency to potential try and damage my credit. On top of this their prices are outrageously expensive and I am shocked with all the reviews here they still have customers. New to town or not....DO NOT USE THESE THIEVES! Just got a package in the mail trying to get me to sign up for the "Winter Price Protection Plan". Seems fine, but I prefer to pay as I go. One major concern I have is the bottom where it says whichever payment plan you choose you are subject to a "$500 early termination fee". I have been happy with Medway Oil's service, but seriously, if I decide to take my business elsewhere you are going to charge me $500? Not the type of company I want to do business with. I understand if you get a free cell phone you have to stay on contract for the cell company to make their money back, but Medway oil is simply trying to stop customers from switching to another company. Thoroughly informed me concerning the issues with the tank that needed to be addressed to the landlord (whom has a history of not maintaining things on the property anyways). This is the WORST company I have ever dealt with , seriously. I am new to Medway, new to Massachusetts ( from the south) so oil heat is a new thing as well as winter! Bought a home in medway last spring that had medway oil service tags (dated as far back as1989) all through the basement hanging on the furnace. I didn't know who to call, but figured since the previous owners of our home used them .....so I called medway oil in the fall twice to fill the propane and once to partially fill oil the tank. Prices were really high. Then I had a baby. We called as we were almost out of oil and the prices and plans were even more OUTRAGEOUS. My neighbor suggested a company that they use that was much more reasonable. With a brand new baby, every penny counts so We used the other company for the complete fill up. Here we are in January and woke up this am with no heat. House is freezing, no hot water for the baby, etc. I called medway oil on an emergency call ( today is Saturday) and the answering service ( who has no clue) said someone would call us back. Our address, name and phone number were on file already. The guy called and asked what the problem was. My husband told him what was going on that the furnace broke down & the medway oil guy refused to help us, refused to come out. He said " you used another company so call THEM to fix it. Good luck with that." Never in my life have I dealt with a nastier, more unprofessional company. The prices are through the roof and they do not care about people. Update: the owner of medway oil ( Jeffrey ) called me after this complaint to basically bad mouth the less expensive "discount" company we chose to use instead of medway oil . MEDWAY = HIGHEST OIL PRICES. Listen to me or draw your own conclusions, I can just recommend that you do your research, call around, and form your own opinion. I admit I'm a dissatisfied, ex-customer but I have never written a review for a business like this before. The owner is the most arrogant and maddening business person I have ever talked to. I finally woke up to the fact that they charge substantially more for oil than other full service oil vendors (and even more than discounters). For years I paid a lot more for oil with Medway than I would have elsewhere. I called to discuss with the owner and he was a condescending bully with me. I ask pointed question about the cost of closing my account and then they invented new "pickup charges" after the fact (I didn't have to pay a pickup charge to my old vendor last time I switched). I called this company when I recently purchased a house, and found out we were out of oil upon move-in. I spoke with the owner, Jeff and was told that he would only come out to prime my tank if I became a regular customer. He said he'd been burnt in the past by "bailing out customers and then having them bail on him" ... I assured him I would fill up with his company the next time I purchased oil. As promised, EVEN THOUGH his prices were $3.95 per gallon compared to several companies under $3.50 per gallon (12% difference!), I filled my next tank with his company b/c I appreciated him bailing me out. However, after that, I could not afford to ignore the large discrepancy in cost, so I went with another company for my 2nd fill. After that, I received an invoice for $150.... I called and was told this was for the service for them to come out when they primed the tank. The tech was at my house for all of 5 minutes, and I was NEVER told of this charge. So I called Jeff, told him I shouldnt pay it, and he's now threatening to report this to my credit as a collection. What a joke this company is. I am also reporting them to the BBB b/c I believe I should have been told UP FRONT of the cost of priming the tank. read more

We were hoping to find a new full service have and propane provider to replace our current provider and previous service company. I've lived in Medway my whole life and wanted to go local so called Medway oil. The service manager said they do everything, so I expected professional, courteous, affordable service! The tech showed up, had no ladder to service the wall ac unit, and no intention of solving the issue himself, so I offered our ladder. Let him go to it, he said it just needed a filter to be cleaned. Also needed to replace the hose on the grill. Took a second trip because he had nothing for that either. They charge 45 just to show up! Went to look at ac and the guy put huge gouges in my wall! When he came back it took him an hour to replace the grill hose. Total bill......$225 for cleaning a filter and changing a hose. Now, we paid with a check over a month ago, they still haven't cashed the check......just ugh. We will never use their service again and no way switching to them for our propane!
