If I could, I'd give 5 stars for repair and 1 star for service. Service: Over the years I've tried several times to schedule routine maintenance, and every time the wait is 4+ months -- basically making it impossible to get seasonal maintenance done unless you book a year in advance. After paying for a repair estimate, the technician told me the best solution for my issue was to keep up with routine maintenance. On that basis, I was sold a Comfort360 support plan at $40/month, which states in the contract: "Provider will provide you with priority service in scheduling your maintenance and emergency repair appointments over non-Comfort 360 customers." Nevertheless, Nicholson informed me that the AC maintenance appointment I'd scheduled in April would remain in August and couldn't be pulled in by even a single day. Unless every appointment booked through August is for a Comfort360 customer, they are clearly not giving Comfort360 customers priority. You can verify this yourself by scheduling maintenance on their website -- whether you indicate you're a member or not, you're given the same service dates. If you're going to sell a premium service plan, you ought to carve out dedicated appointment slots for members rather than sharing a common pool between members and non-members. Repair: I've used Nicholson for both plumbing and HVAC repairs and have always found the technicians to be honest and fair when describing my options. This stands in contrast to some providers that try to sell products and services the customer doesn't need. read more

Derek and Eilel completed the difficult work of installing a new outside frost-freeze protected faucet on our historical Sudbury house. Also, Derek identified the cleanout trap for our septic waste water line, as well as executed a disconnection and removal of a failing salt-based water softener - much appreciated! The system is now finally again using the inline carbonate filtering cartridges, which help to extend the life and health of our appliances and drinking water resin filters. Very pleased overall as usual with Nicholson service techs and company. read more

I've been a long time customer and pay a monthly service fee . I tried to schedule a service call in may and was told they'd be available in July. July came and the day before they cancelled they rescheduled for 3 weeks later and the day before they cancelled again. They do not want to provide the service I have paid for . I wish I could agree with Grim S. We had a terrible experience with Nicholas Plumbing. They diagnosed our boiler as a major issue and quoted a high repair cost, but the part has to be ordered, and we got all the maintenance contracts signed on the first day. Later, communication became almost nonexistent. After waiting five days with no updates, I had to call them myself. When they finally returned, they brought the wrong part, and now we're on day eight with no heat or hot water in cold weather. No urgency, no empathy, and no clear timeline. Very disappointing service. I am still waiting to get it fixed :( read more

Completely replaced my AC system. Everyone was very efficient, polite, and professional. No notes, No, complaints.

Our water heater suddenly began leaking on a Saturday morning. We called three vendors, including Nicholson, whose estimate undercut another local vendor by almost $1,000 for effectively the same package (Bradford White 40-gallon 40k btuh natural gas water heater). Nicholson sent a technician--Nicholas Brodeur--to look at our utility closet the same day and factored in a required update to the PVC piping in the flue to bring it into code compliance. Mr. Brodeur was unfailingly professional, polite, and meticulous, and completed the hot water tank replacement on the same day, working into the evening. Despite working in a finished basement, he was meticulous in keeping everything clean. Although this was an expensive job, we believe that the price was fair. We are very satisfied with Nicholson's turnaround and installation, as well as Mr. Brodeur's professionalism, and look forward to doing business with them for future service of our water heater. read more

Nicholson came in for routine maintenance on a 10 years old gas furnace that was operating normally (first visit, my furnace has been serviced 5 times before by other vendors). They flagged multiple issues and the need for repairs to prevent immediate failure (for the 2 stage draft inducer, which was apparently failing because it made a noise upon furnace starting) and to extend the life of the unit, for the other parts. Here is an outline of the charge: 1) 2-Stage draft inducer: 1745$ 2) Hot surface ignitor: 571$ 3) Flame sensor: 246$ 4) Dual pressure switch: 895$ Total: 3457$ ( I have all the receipts, and my cc bill). I accepted to the charge in large part because I was told that a new unit would range between 10 to 20K$ (Nicholson estimate), and the potential for immediate failure of the draft inducer was concerning. Days later when I looked up the parts changed, their cost and the time spend on this, I called a 3rd party HVAC expert for a 2nd opinion. After I presented the work done and the charge, he said that these repairs made absolutely no sense, that the likelihood that all 4 components fail or need replacement at the same time is near 0, and that he has never changed a draft inducer himself. He also pointed out that the total cost of the whole thing was more altogether then a new furnace (2K) + install (1.5K). He also had a spontaneous laugh at the 2 stage inducer failing because it made some noise. I then contacted yet another HVAC pro. He was more to the point: There are no laws against overcharging on house heating system, and some company will rip people off for as much as they are willing to pay for. He said: for any estimate for HVAC repairs above 500$, ask a 2nd company. I contacted a customer rep at Nicholson. There was a lot of monologuing, but the whole schtick of an explanation was centered around me agreeing to the charge, which I was not even denying. So in the end, its all my fault. Roger that. Thanks Nicholson. I agree with your conclusions. Now, keep my money, and don't ever show up to my property ever again. read more

It feels like my home alone is funding their numerous billboards on Route 9. In 2017, we purchased a brand new seven-head Mitsubishi heat pump system from Nicholson, costing approximately $27,000. After installation, one room never cooled properly from the start, and without fail, the system broke down every summer, usually during the hottest week. In the past three years alone, we've spent over $14,000 maintaining a system that is barely seven years old, and we know there are additional invoices we've lost track of in-between 2017 and 2022 after the merger. Just 30 days after paying $4,500 to fix yet another issue, the entire compressor on that very same unit failed. This comes just two years after we had to replace another compressor within the system and pay for the labor as well. How can TWO compressors fail in under seven years? It's either due to incompetent technicians or lemon systems being sold. Our system has now been down since August, and I've had to follow up several times to get the same answer - "Part is still in transit." And yes, we typically use our system for heat. So now on top of all these expenses we've incurred to try to keep this system running, we're burning more oil than we ever have - $700 a month. The entire reason we installed mini-splits was to avoid burning expensive oil. (Yes, we have solar.) There's zero urgency on their part. There's no timeframe to get this fixed for us. It feels like one big shoulder shrug. This used to be a family owned company that cared about their customers. In the meantime we're still waiting. Highly recommend going elsewhere. read more

I don't usually write reviews like the one I am about to, but I don't feel that I have any other choice. I wish I had read the review I am about to write before I authorized this work to be done. After all, we live in an age of first looking at "reviews by others who've made the same purchase." Our garbage disposal was acting up, leaking from the bottom, causing the GFCI outlet near the sink to repeatedly trip & shut off. My wife & I had no idea what the root cause was, plumbing, electrical, unsure. After trying various fixes on our own, we decided to start with a plumber. We reached out to Nicholson Plumbing because we noticed our neighbor using them one day. We asked our neighbor what he thought of them & he had nothing but good things to say, albeit pricey. So, instead of using the plumber we had previously used once before, we thought we would give Nicholson a try. They were very responsive and came out on 5/20/25. The plumber that came out (name withheld out of respect) was very courteous & professional. As soon as we showed him the leak, and the GFCI outlet tripping when the garbage disposal was turned on, he knew right away the garbage disposal needed to be replaced. When asked the cost, he said that it was set by the company (Nicholson Plumbing in Holliston, MA) & that it would be $944 for a replacement garbage disposal, with install, same make & model. The make & model, for those who might be interested, is "InSinkErator Badger 5, Standard Series 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal. We were shocked & disappointed to hear that it would cost that much, but it was 8:15am & I needed to run to work, leaving my wife to deal with the rest of the project. We reluctantly agreed to the price before I left so that we could have it fixed while the plumber was still there & have access to our kitchen sink again. The plumber happened to have that same make & model garbage disposal in his truck & said that he could fix it right away. He finished the replacement in 30 minutes, charging us $944. I don't know why, but I took a picture of the new garbage disposal box & sent it to my wife, asking her to get a couple of other quotes from other plumbers, so we could feel better about the amount of money we just spent. This was a mistake. First, my wife looked up the cost of the garbage disposal on Amazon, $127, brand new, OK. Next, she called our HVAC company that also does plumbing, Precision in Northborough. After providing them with the make & model of garbage disposal, they quoted her $410, for parts AND install. This is MORE THAN DOUBLE what we paid, ouch! A quick google search for the average cost of this project had a max cost of $650. Bottom line, do your homework, NEVER accept a quote & trusting it to be a "fair price." Some plumbers are counting on you not having the time to invest in getting multiple quotes, and if they are already at your home, be ok with getting back to them after you've received their quote. Ian the plumber was professional, courtesy and efficient, completed the job in less than 30 minutes. The pricing was upfront and very expensive. If I didn't use a $50 online coupon, this would have been a $500+ repair. If you have the time, my recommendation would be to shop around for a better value. It was a relatively simple job, I don't believe a company should bilk their new customers. I will not be back and will not recommend to others. Last December our heating system stopped working. We called Nicholson since its close by & was available right away to give us a quote for $89 or $99. The person came to look at it said it might be the ignitor then he called someone. Then he told us he had to ask another person to diagnose & will charge another $99 because he can't figure it out. So, they decided it's the mother board which they will charge $900+. Ignitor only cost $15. They came & change the motherboard, but furnace isn't working then he changed the ignitor, furnace starts to work. Out unit was only 1yr old then. That's when we realize they were scamming us. I purchased a heat pump and furnace from Nicholson at the end of August of 2023. For the remainder of summer the unit worked fine. I tried to use the heat pump when the weather started turning cold but it never seemed to heat the house. Not having any experience with heat pumps I figured thats just how they operated. The next spring when the weather started getting warm I turned on the A/C but the air never was really cold. Plus the unit continually tripped the breaker. I called them and they came and noticed that the fan motor was frozen. They put in a new one for free (10 year warranty). But the unit still tripped the breaker. They sent service people twice with no one fixing the problem. Neither were electricians. When I finally insisted they send an electrician he installed a new breaker and the breaker has not tripped since. Last fall we received a flyer in the mail offering a two for one preventative maintenance service for $99. I called and made an appointment for heat PM in Jan. and A/C PM in April. In Jan. they called and cancelled the appt. and rescheduled both for the April appt.. Now they called and cancelled Aprils appt. I'm guessing they don't want to honor their own offer. read more

recently had Nicholson install an air handler and air conditioner. I expected them to send me a survey but never received one or a call back. The salesperson said the install would take a day and a half. They started on 12/23/2024 and finished on 1/12/2025. The installers on the 23 started early that morning and at around 5 pm said we were all set. I questioned that the system which is a high pressure hydro air Unico did not appear to have any pressure but the installer insisted that the tank just needed to heat back up. We trusted him and left for a holiday gathering but turned off all the space heaters. When we returned the house was bitter cold. Luckily there were no frozen pipes! I contacted Nicholson and they sent out a technician the next day. He spent several hours reinstalling the system and got it to work properly. He also noticed a crushed piece of ductwork that he taped and said he would check with the home office about replacing.(Never heard back from them concerning this) I then received an invoice asking for payment in full. When I explained to the billing department that the air conditioner was still sitting on a pallet on my driveway she was surprised and confused. I later got a call from the dispatcher to have air conditioner installed and the crew came and put it in but an electrician did not show up with them. Again I received an invoice and a phone call asking for full payment. When I explained that the unit was not powered up yet they said they would get back to me. The billing department then called and said the home office was adamant that the work was complete . When I offered to send a photo of wires dangling by the air conditioner they backed down and said they would send out an electrician which they did. A project that was to have taken 1 1/2 days ended up taking 21 days. The length of time it took for the install was not such an issue as was the utter lack of communication between the installers/billing department/dispatchers. Nicholson is not inexpensive and I actually pay a monthly fee to be on their preferred Customer list. I honestly think a lot of these reviews were paid off because this company is the worse company we've ever dealt with. Not only does it take them days almost a week to get back to you but it is almost impossible to talk to anyone live that is management. We paid 15k for two furnaces but this "local" company that has been bought out by a corporation they don't care about you once you've fallen for their gimmick. They act like they are friendly and personable until you purchase from them but when you have an issue like us where they took over a week to replace two thermostats which one furnace stopped working and our temps went down to 58 and still hasn't been fixed correctly and you try to contact ANYONE that could help but the answering service does not include ANY important information in their system you just feel like you're a number to this company. We are still waiting to speak to ANYONE that can rectify our issues. Please don't fall for this "we are local and helpful" company. They have definitely paid off their reviews and I do not trust these guys at all. we will never use their services again once this furnace issue has been resolved. EDIT: STILL HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM MANAGEMENT. Our furnace has not been working correctly and back to 57 at our house and every time we try to reach someone it's through call center. They have come out twice and still not working the way it should! We have paid 15k for JUNK SERVICE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. When is someone going to reach out to us?! Promises after promises of someone from management reaching out to us and NO ONE has even tried!! Back in January, we had Nicholson install a whole new HVAC system in our townhouse The heat worked fine but as soon as we went to use the AC, hot air blew out. That was over four weeks ago and we still have no AC. We've has over 8 different technicians come out to our house (all very nice) and still nothing. After the last one on Friday, we have heard nothing. I had to leave before technician so I did not find out his assessment and they NEVER call you with information. I came home after work and we still have no AC. This is absolutely ridiculous. It was so hot in our home the other day that our candles melted. We have had to find alternative sleeping arrangements on multiple occasions because it is impossible to sleep there. Every time we call, we get a different person. Many times we are told they are waiting on a "part", (guess that they don't know about overnight delivery). I just called again ,and the person sounded like they were overseas. When asked to talk to a manager, I was told they would call me back within 12 hours!!! What kind of company is this when you cannot even talk to a person in charge??? DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! A plumber from Nicholson came to our home to assess a leak. For this assessment, we were charged about $90 (which isn't atypical). We were told by the plumber that his supervisor would give us the quote the following morning and someone would be able to come and fix it that day. We never received the quote. My husband was on hold with the company for 45 minutes. I tried and miraculously got through. We were told they'd send the quote the next day. It's been a week and a half and we still haven't received the quote, nor have we even heard from someone telling us when we'll get the quote. Each time we call, we speak to someone else to forwards us to someone new who says we will get the quote shortly. We paid about $90 and never received the quote, which makes this feel like one big scam. read more

not sure how they are still in business- we had an electrician come out to assess a bathroom vent fan, which after longer than it should've, reported the motor wasn't working. We were informed he would be on vacation the next week but instructed us to call the office to make sure they ordered the part and to "definitely follow up". We were also told that they aren't busy so once he was back from vacation he would have time to install the new motor. Over the course of the next THREE weeks we called the office no less than 6 times to see if a) the part was ordered b) if it was in c) to schedule the actual service. not only was the office staff unable to tell us if part was even ordered, but after two weeks of ridiculous communication and mixed messages they called us and told my husband that they would definitely have it available the following week and would be installed no later than Tuesday. Here we are, three weeks later on Tuesday, and when we called again today to see what was happening we were told that there were no updates. Our toilet clogged - so I got to Google and since it was 10pm I had to find a 24-7 plumber. Nicholson came up and seemed well regarded. I talked to a customer service rep and gave my info- he said I'd hear from someone soon. Never heard back so after an hour I called back. Was told I'd hear from someone- another 40 minutes nothing so I called back again only to finally have someone reach out this person told me they couldn't get to me til the following morning. I asked why they advertised as 24/7 if they clearly weren't and the brain dead gentleman I was speaking with told me that "didn't apply to new customers" and the plumber had been "out all day" none of which helps me with a clogged toilet and an advertisement for an alleged 24/7 business. Only gave them a 1 because a 0 wasn't possible. Honestly if you're considering this company I'd just keep it moving to the next one- in fact I reviewed an excellent plumber on my account you can call instead. If you find yourself considering this company you might as well just sit by your phone for a few hours and hire a group of neighborhood kids to flush rocks down your toilet instead. read more

This is an update to a review I posted on 7/21/2023: Nicholson plumbers told us our drain problem was a full septic system and charged us $380 for the privilege. They were wrong! We had the system pumped and the problem persisted. When I called to tell them so, they gave us a service appointment day 4 days out, despite the fact that we could not use our kitchen or laundry due to a plumbing problem THEY failed to fix. When I said that the appointment was not acceptable, the dispatcher said "We don't do emergency calls for drains." We called All Drain instead (see review) and they came promptly and did an excellent job. After multiple attempts to contact Nicholson and after initiating a dispute with my credit card company, someone from Nicholson finally agreed to refund the charge to my credit card. Then, on August 22, 2023, I received an email with a bill from Nicholson trying to rip me off for an additional $380 (for a total of $780) including for a visit they did not make and WORK THEY NEVER DID, and despite their refund of the original charge. They have not returned my three phone calls asking to resolve this problem. I will NEVER use this company again, and I strongly advise anyone reading this to find someone, ANYONE else. read more

Three weeks ago, one of our AC compressors died. I called Rodenheiser, Sila, Thacklberry, T&J, and Nicholson. All were too busy, most offered to send someone out to inspect in 5-8 days with installs in 4-5 weeks, all except Nicholson. They had their sales comfort advisor Mike Pitner come out three hours after making the original call. He was knowledgeable, patient, and thorough in reviewing our options with best applications. We immediately chose Nicholson and it has thus far been a smart decision. Over the last two days, the crew at Nicholson arrived each morning at 7:30am and hustled to each part of the job; they removed our old systems, installed new heat pump units with variable speed furnace motors for efficiency and a more balanced heat and AC and they never stopped until 5-6pm both nights. The teams were neat, respectful of our home, they covered all rugs, vacuumed all areas affected and last night for the first time in some years our ac functioned beautifully! A word about the crew; Joe Pinto was exceptional in every way, his team of Billy, Jannd(sp) and Andrad Felix....were just so professional, courteous and exceptionally neat in challenging conditions. Even the area where the condensers sit outside look as though professional landscapers manicured the grounds! *The staff that man the phones, Amy and Bobby Joe, quick to react, always pleasant and highly professional . Only 1 day in however, the process from initial meeting with Mike Pitner to having Joe Pinto and team here has been satisfying and reassuring. Nicholson installed a furnace and central air conditioner in my home. Here is a list of the problems with the system Nicholson installed that I corrected by myself: * Two of the thermostats were wired to control the wrong zones on the zone controller * One of the zone dampers was wired incorrectly so that it could not close * The humidifier was wired incorrectly, and only turned on when the third zone was on instead of when the furnace was on * The zone controller was improperly configured so that the furnace and air conditioner could not switch into stage 2 when needed (this was a huge problem because the system could not supply enough heat in winter or enough cooling in summer). * The system was unable to supply enough airflow to the second floor of my house The system is unable to maintain the temperature and humidity in my house at a comfortable temperature. A Nicholson employee visited my house and said he suspected the system is too small for the house. He promised to "check on something" back at the office and let me know what he learned. I never heard from him again. Every time I tried to follow up with him, I was told he was unreachable because he was "in the field." I called Nicholson repeatedly for help. They often didn't return my calls. A couple of times they sent technicians out who offered various reasons for why the system wasn't providing enough cooling, but they never succeeded in fixing the problem. Desperate for help, I contacted other HVAC contractors, all of whom agreed the system is too small. read more

First let me say I love working with Nicholson from HVAC. I find them reasonable and I use their monthly service/insurance program. However, the plumbing is terrible. I had a bunch of issues with install/scheduling of a sink last year. A sink was previously in the spot but I have countertops replaced so I needed to have new sink re-plumbed, it cost over $700. Super expensive for what it was and they didn't even tighten the faucet. I have lived in this house 5 years and never had the sink that was re-plumbed clogged. In the past year since they re-plumbed it's clogged twice and they don't bother to return my calls. Finally on the 2nd clog, after I called 3x, I actually found out from a manager named Angela that they were sold and not getting their messages. She finally sent someone out, the guy sat in his car for an hour making calls (not about our job) while my husband and I waited inside for him which held us up from work. He did tighten the faucet but told us the reason the sink is clogging is because our plumbing in the basement (not where this sink is but I do understand that it probably flushes out that way) is not up to code, the house is only 10 years old so it's not out that out of code. They want $1400 to fix the basement piping. I am not a plumber but I find it very suspicious that in 4 years the sink clogged zero times and in the past year since they re-plumbed it, it's clogged twice and I have paid on my own dime (different companies since Nicholson didn't call me back) to have it unclogged. Now they want $1400 to fix the stuff that out of code. read more

Don't believe the billboards! Saw an ad on a billboard on Rt 9 for a $99 boiler tuneup, so I went to their website (which looked decent) and scheduled an appointment for Nov 30. Within a couple of days I get a call that the appt has to be rescheduled to Dec 30 because their technicians are sick. Of course, by Dec 15 one of the zones in the house goes down, so I call again and their technicians are miraculously available since they can charge more than $100 just to show up. Turns out it was a loose wire, so a one minute fix, which cost more than $250. Well, at least I thought I would get the deal for the tune up. A few days later they call again and say the tune up had to be rescheduled for Feb 3 because their technicians are in the hospital! Long story short: if you can pay their premium for showing up and their diagnostic fees, they're healthy. Otherwise, you get bumped month to month. Just bad business.... read more

Unfortunately I had a plumbing emergency 2/4/23.Water was coming from my air handler,flooding my basement and the heat was not working.T requested emergency service ,however I was given an appointment March 6 2023 for service.I objected stating the emergency and was then given a date in mid Feb.Unreasonable!!!! Background:Air conditioning unit installed by Nicholson Plumbing and Heating about 5 years ago.Commited to a monthly payment which would be used for yearly maintenance.This would also put me at "the head of the line" in case of an emergency or service.I was told under no circumstances would emergency service be porvided at this time.Completely unreasonable!!! My 30 year old (Burnham gas/oil conversion unit) boiler got red-tagged during an inspection and had to be shut off for emitting high levels of CO into the atmosphere. This happened just a few days before the coldest days of the year, as these things tend to do. To add to that we're selling our house and had an open house scheduled for Sunday, a week away. So... tight schedule, no heat, over a barrel. We got 3 estimates the next day to feel like we weren't getting ripped off despite our need, and the Nicholson rep Anthony offered us a higher quality high efficiency combination boiler (Bosch as opposed to crappy-Navien) at the lowest price of all 3 offers, and he promised they would get it done the Friday before our open house. I was told they were sending one of their senior employees who would be able to finish the job on time, but we still had to make it until then so we bought some oil filled electric radiators in the interim to stop pipes from freezing. When Friday rolled around everyone arrived on time, early in the AM. Wayne and his helpers Shane and Hunter were perfectly professional and personable, and my dog liked them and they liked my dog which is important for some reason. They finished the install in just about 7 hours, including hauling everything away, and left the area clean and swept. There were no surprises, I am extremely happy because this could've screwed up the sale of our home and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for timely dependable work by people you don't mind having in your home. read more

Asked for a price to install two faucets over the phone. One was a new utility sink Install in the laundry room and the other a replacement for a kitchen sink faucet. I provided all the new materials. Would not provide a estimate/price over the phone had to come out. Arrived looked at the two jobs and said it would take 1 hour to replace the faucet in the kitchen and 1&1/2 hrs to install the new utility sink, so 2&1/2 hours total. The quote was $815. That comes to $326/hr for a plumber, which is more than double the published rate for plumbing services found on the web for my zip code. Will not call them again! read more

Steve did an amazing job fixing the blunders of another AC company that came to our house last week. Steve properly fixed our thermastat, transformer and rewired our AC unit. He even drove out to pick up the thermostat and installed it in no time. He also noticed our fan was incorrectly wired. Fixed that and another issue for no charge. I'd highly recommend Steve and Nicholson hvac. Reasonable prices and excellent service. Only sorry I did not call them first. read more

Update: they fixed the issues and now everything works as it should. While it should have been done correctly in the first place, I want to be transparent and give them the credit they deserve. Run, don't walk. Avoid at all costs. Can I leave no stars? After spending thousands on a new boiler, they left without making sure that it actually works. Which it doesn't. And they are completely unresponsive in trying to make it work. You'd think that they would at least try. read more

They came out to do a repair + they made me aware of serious violations in codes for our furnace at no charge. I called and got the guys to do an estimate when we were ready to deal with it. They came out the following week to make sure my mother had heat before it reached freezing temperatures. They were honest about their assessment. They were patient and explained their concerns. And this is the big thing, they didn't try to aggressively sell me anything. I think it says a lot about a company and their technicians, that they willingly came out twice to assess the unit when I was ready + didn't charge me. I really appreciated their concern + sincerity. They knew I was dealing with difficult conditions and they were trying to help me. read more

Genuinely god-awful. I employed Nicholson HVAC and I had Francis do the initial estimate for a gas conversion and Heat Pump installation. Right from the git-go, I had a variety of problems with them. They wouldn't help me with the National Grid paperwork, they wouldn't help me with the Mass Save rebate paperwork. After a few months of dealing with mass save on my own, I realized that Nicholson had given me an incorrect invoice for the completion date so my rebates have still not come in (non-trivial amounts of money). On top of that, the gas plumber didn't do the correct connections outside the home for the National Grid person to connect my gas line to and I lost a few days with that. Not home-owner friendly. I would keep off them for my next project. read more

I hired Nicholson for a minor plumbing job in the past and was satisfied with their service so I decided to hire them to upgrade my A/C and service my heating system. They are easy to schedule with, prompt and everyone I dealt with was professional. Unfortunately since May 2023 I have had a series of nonstop issues that have cost me time and money. -- The original AC installer could not fit the indoor air handler unit into the existing attic crawl space, an inconvenience but understandable -- Nicholson then sent an engineer to evaluate how to install the air handler. This engineer determined it was optimal to cut an access panel in my closet ceiling. They cut a massive hole in my closet only to find the roof was slanted there and entry through the closet was impossible. This would have been easily discerned had the engineer physically gone up to the crawl space to check -- I consulted a new HVAC company at this point who pointed out Nichols also sold me an air handler that was two tons too large for the square footage of my house. If installed it would have been too powerful, shutting off quickly and not pulling the humidity out of the room. Nichols confirmed this was accurate when I spoke with them about it. -- With my heating system, I recently learned the HVAC technician who charged me $120 for the appointment never actually serviced the unit. Possibly because he had suggested several costly upgrades that in my opinion were unnecessary. When I requested a refund for services not rendered Nicholson kept $99 as a dispatch fee. After my many conversations with different individuals at Nicholson, my impressions are that many folks are inexperienced at best, the company has shockingly bad communication across divisions and the business model seems to be focused on upselling customers. Made an appointment for an electrician and a plumber two weeks in advance from Nicholson. When you call, you speak with a dispatcher and not an actual tradesman. You don't get to speak with them until they're on the clock (the immediate after quote service fee). They indicated I can get them both at the same time, as I requested. After taking the day from work and preparing the work areas in my home, I got a call one hour before the appointment time telling me they have no plumber to send. They cancelled the plumber appointment at the last minute and said I can have one show up in another week. Instead of an electrician showing up as requested, they sent an army of three electricians in one truck, without letting me know. They spent quite a while just looking over the work and writing up an estimate that I felt was way too high. I called a different electrician who showed up same day who quoted less money and much better availability. I also called a different plumber and he was same day too. ! I will NEVER call these people again. I couldn't be more displeased with how they operate, and them not working as promised. read more
