Amazing Yelp find, especially in the unfortunate sea of chain restaurant boredom along Interstate 35. We stayed in the area the night before to check out restaurants for an upcoming car club run. Noticed Megg's while doing some breakfast research and had to check it out. We arrived just after opening. First thing I noticed, no duct tape X's across the social distance tables that were closed. Instead, plants!!!! Friggin' brilliant!!!! Made the experience seem a bit special and thought out versus most restaurants I've visited recently. Cool artwork on the walls, including framed photos of farms they source ingredients from. Bakery on the other side of the dining space; not sure if that's local or a smallish franchise like Great Harvest. Piddling on my phone while we waited I found a similarly named Hamilton Bread place in MO. My benedict paired a classic griddled country biscuit with maple bacon sausage, gravy, and poached eggs. Taters were provided too which were also well seasoned. GF's THREEDOM of choices were over medium eggs, country ham, and a cinnamon roll that she brought back to Driftwood to my son Rooster. I could be bit preachy about benedicts. I mean, the same two egg breakfast with potatoes, meat, and choice of bread it $4 cheaper. Benedict is also 2 eggs, 2 sausage, potatoes, ONE split biscuit..topped with gravy. BUT, service was pleasant and there were no issues with social distancing. In fact social distancing was in enough effect that we didn't even notice our car club friends John and Judy were dining nearby with only 4 or 5 foot wall separating us...We were shocked after we paid and stood up to leave and noticed them! Visiting Maggs Café in Temple is a must! They get their food locally, and everything is made by hand in the back. The staff is so nice, and if it's nice out, you can eat on the patio. They have a bakery when you first walk in, and of course, I always get some day old bread for French toast the next day. That and we were leaving the country for a while and this would be one of my only chances to have something to reminisce about. Yolk pouring out of something benedict is always a moment to celebrate in my book. Food took a long while, I remember stepping out a few times just to break the tension in my stomach. Water was infrequent. I had gotten an order of the deviled eggs, avocado toast, crispy brussel sprouts, and the classic benedict. I remember ordering the avo benedict but I believe they had run out of tomato or swiss or something. In any case, I wasn't the most picky really and just went with the classic instead. The deviled eggs were interesting. I kinda wanted more out of the bacon marmalade, but it still had a good flavor to it. The benedict was pretty good. I wanted the potatoes to be fresher, but the hollandaise was good with a bit of tang to it. The brussel sprouts were good n crispy, albeit a bit over sauced. And avocado toast. Can't really go wrong with it. The sesame on it was interesting since with the toast it gave some texture differences here and there bite by bite. I think balance would've been great with more of the sliced radish. Certainly has its good points, but it gets quite busy. If I lived in the area, I'd probably be more inclined to figure out times when there isn't a rush of people going through and I could sit and really enjoy things without waiting as long. read more

The service was awful and the food was even worse. The server brought me out the wrong side I very politely asked for bacon instead of the sausage again. No big deal right? Well to her it was. She was very off putting and then said I will be back with a small plate. But when she returned I had no idea she wanted ke to scrape the sausage off if my plate after I had already eaten things on the plate. She wanted to take my sausage back before she would give me the bacon I ordered in the first place. It was very very improper. No etiquette. Also the other people at my table had to wait an hour for their food...and then when they got it it was cold and their potatoes were hard as rocks. Walked right in & was seated, breakfast was good and filling. Starla, our server was very nice and checked back often. Only issue, breakfast potatoes/home fries were not fresh. They were seasoned very well, but were definitely sitting under a hot lamp before they were served to us. We both ordered the Three(dom) of Choice. We were seated on the patio for brunch and soon realized we were the only guests there. When we asked to have the fans turned on, we were informed that one of the fans was broken and they would rather keep it off even though the other fans are working . They should have notified us about the malfunctioning fans before seating us outside. As a result, we were left in an uncomfortably hot and humid environment with no one checking on us. No water was provided . After waiting more than five minutes without being served water, I decided to go inside and request a table indoors. Unfortunately, the waitress told us we would need to go back to the front and wait in line for another 15 minutes to be seated, despite our previous wait. Disheartened by the poor service, we ultimately chose to leave, feeling quite disappointed. We will never go here again and this was our first time in this place . It was either Thai food or Megg's Café. Well, hell, I can get Thai food anytime I want, "What is this Megg's Café?!" It was a no-brainer. We started off with a bloody Mary for me and sweet tea for him. Put an order of the deviled farm eggs as recommended by Big Bro. This is probably on my top 5 deviled eggs list, if not top 2... hell, let's just say it's the best version of deviled eggs I've had. What boosts it against its competition is how they incorporated bacon marmalade and crispy shallots. That's some creativity! Also got the Brussel sprouts because I was curious. Cooked to a nice crisp but tender on the inside. It was a pleasant surprise to find the soy glaze on the sweet side since I'm more used to the savory kind. Delicious. Got to try a few bites of Big Bro's pastrami hash and understood why he likes it so much. There was nothing wrong with that entire dish! The pastrami was cooked and seasoned perfect! And the sidekicks did their thing but boosting the pastrami to a better level. I opted for the crab cake benedict sans the potatoes, subbed with sourdough toast. The eggs were cooked a little too long (I would have preferred it a bit more yolky, but no biggie.) Crab cakes were handmade (I could tell by the little inconsistencies and teenee parts of crab shells in the cakes. Didn't care about that either.) The hollandaise sauce wasn't overpowering and was just enough to commensurate to the dish. Delicious. Big Bro really know how to pick good eats! My uncle took me here to eat after I arrive and I was very excited as the reviews looked really good. The menu had pretty interesting thing on the menu like biscuits and gravy Benedict, gravy poutine, etc. I opted for the smothered omelette which is a classic omelette smothered with gravy. First, the portion here is humongous. Everything is bigger in Texas :) When my plate came out, I was disappointed because it was just a regular omelette. I looked around the omelette to see where the gravy was and couldn't find any. I finally asked the waitress and she apologized as they forgot to put the gravy on. She brought a bowl of gravy on the side for me. Everything was really tasty, definitely love the gravy. I wish my omelette was smothered in it though rather than me dipping it. We were very upset about it and received no apologies for it. We asked if we could place a to go order and they said a waitress would be with us soon. It was absolutely delicious. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly and oozed out when they were cut. Their was this lemon cream on it that tasted amazing on it.
