It's our 4th year going to Dr.Busse and it's always an easy appointment. We have strabismus in both eyes and a long medical history so my daughter hates going to the doctor's office. I never have an issue with her coming here because Dr. Busse takes her time and is so patient with my child and answers all of my questions. The staff here are really nice too and help me whenever I have billing questions or reschedules. There are complaints about the waiting area. As a mom I would rather have my child play with toys or read a book than give her my phone. This is not Little Land or Catch Air...it's free entertainment for your child so get some sanitizer afterwards when your child is done playing just like any public place you visit. read more

My daughter, 18 years old, was born with Strabismus. She seen another local doctor in Waco for surgery and he messed her eyes up worse than they were. Dr. Busse came along and helped my baby since she was little. She was on her 3rd surgery with the first doctor which also gave her " Brown Syndrome". We decided to go with Megyn Busse and she has been her doctor every since. I felt comfort in knowing that Dr. Busse's daughter had the same issue and she always treated us like family. One thing that needs to be said, when she was done with surgery on the "other doctor" her eyes bled all the way home and hours later ( every surgery) with Dr. Busse she was alert going in and she walked out! While the staff were friendly, everything seems very disorganized and cluttered. There are toys everywhere in a sad state, that need some real cleaning. My kiddo loved it, but it made me feel very germaphobic. Also, the staff area, seems a cluttered mess. It took quite some time to find our information. It does not seem organized. Also, Dr. Busse was wearing a very short skirt, and sitting down on a low stool eye level with my child, with their legs totally open, very on display for everyone in the room. I understand it's hot, but it made me uncomfortable and seemed unprofessional. Granted, Dr. Busse had a lovely demeanor and the staff gave my kiddo stickers, so excellent "bedside manner", but I'm hesitant to come back, because I'm afraid my kiddo will pick up something from the less than clean toys. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Megyn Busse's office. I was not impressed at all with the lady I scheduled the appointment with. She was very short and borderline rude. I had read all of the previous comments which I wasn't thrilled with especially being previous law enforcement but since Dr. Busse came recommended to me by my child's pediatrician I decided to give them an honest try. I was thoroughly confused when I showed up to the office and the sign outside said Keith and not Megyn. When I inquired further I was told that Megyn and Keith are the same person (they had transitioned to female). When I arrived the front desk staff were having a morning meeting and I was most definitely not a priority to them. The office called me as I was pulling up into their parking lot to inform that they were unable to verify my insurance which resulted in an awkward conversation in front of people in the waiting room. We ended up seeing Dr. Thai (who was great) but at the end of the day we will be transferring to another office that comes with raving reviews. read more

We were prepared for a difficult experience (new place, drops in the eyes, strange equipment) and guess what? None of it came true. not one bit. The happy chaos kept kids busy, and there is even a child size arcade game station. (cool!) It is a bit of a maze, but nothing compared to the Lego Sansuke challenges in our living room. If you bring a stroller, it might be a little challenging. Toys were in good repair, but were being shared by the littlest patients... - Sign in - Start at the sign in windows to your right, and the staff will give you a clipboard to finish filling out the paperwork. - Exam room is right off the waiting area. Dr. Busse's assistant guided our child through the initial evaluation - maintaining an easy breezy approach. It really worked for our child who stayed in the chair and was very curious about how everything worked. - Dr. Busse was warm, low key and efficient. She moved through the exam with remarkable speed (guess 23 years of experience does pay off) while gathering the information needed to answer our questions. She was confident and matter-of-fact without being brusque - which quickly calmed our concerns. Note: Some other reviews have made a comment about Dr. Busse's presentation, so we were curious about our child's response. My child has complex special needs and Dr's visits are usually very stressful. He hates being held in the exam chair and having his head held to look in his eyes. We actually left the last Dr with her telling us she could not examine him and he would have to be put under to do it. Dr. Busse actually laid on the floor so my son could stay in his stroller for the exam. He didn't melt down at all. She was so kind and patient with my son and so easy to talk to. Dr. Busse is the best! Our daughter has a complex medical condition so we see a lot of different specialists. Dr. Busse is our favorite. Our daughter has a high risk of retina detachment, and as a toddler she occasionally bumps her head. Dr. Busse always makes time to see her immediately when this happens because if a retina did detach, it would rapidly get worse and all vision lost would be permanently lost. Dr. Busse doesn't seem to ever forget that our daughter's vision is in her hands. She even came into the office one weekend morning when they were closed just to check our baby's eyes after a fall. Today was another head bonk day, and when I called to see when we could come in, the receptionist apologized profusely, saying that Dr. Busse was in surgery this morning and couldn't see us til early afternoon, which is only a few hours away and still a remarkably quick accommodation for a full office. I don't think personality usually warrants a piece of a review of a medical provider unless it somehow affects their care, but since lots of people do: Dr. Busse also has a very easy-going and casual demeanor which I find accessible and charming, especially when paired with her obvious commitment to the health of her patients. She's great with any paperwork we need for things like insurance, filing for disability, or coordinating with our daughter's other specialists, which makes our lives so much easier. read more

we first saw Thai for a supposed sti on my daughter eye lid was prescribed a topical medication to be applied daily for three weeks and when if didn't work to remove or loosen it we went back in being told the next course would be a removal at the hospita. why would you need to do this I wonder, they main work on small children so makes sense but my daughter is almost 17 and can sit still. we asked if this was something they would consider in office removal and after contact the main doctor Megyn Bussey we were informed she was at lunch and to come back in 30 minutes that turned into over an hour and when we were greeted to come into her dark cluttered office my daughter sat in the chair and was asked questions, etc. even about her acne? She then described the process of removal as being done with scissors showing us them and a numbing spray that would not numb the spot only the eye ball it the scissors were to accidentally hit her eyeball. What!? So she feels the snip and there "will be blood" she said. My daughter wanted full transparency. So I understand her explaining the process of removal but it got weird fast. She then said she had just removed a tag (mole) from under her arm right there in the office while we were sitting there! I see she was trying to make my daughter feel comfortable and showing it's not a big deal, etc but with the scissors she was about to use on my daughters eye?? What? And right there in the corner of office. All along I was still on board, partially due to just wanting to be this done and finished and not wanting to "go under" and spend more money at a hospital procedure with taking another day off of work/school. But my daughter was completely freaked out and shocked And I had to support her not wanting to get it literally cut off (a small white hard round ball like thing on her upper eye lid) She said this is "medieval" can we please not do this and go and we left! Im not sure what kind of doctor appointment this was but we're still concerned and even laughing about. I appreciate her seeing us but this was a tactic to scare us out of doing the removal there or what? And going to the hospitAl? read more

OK so just know before you go, Dr. Busse is an odd character. I have heard many peds refer to him, and that he is the expert on crossed eyes condition in town. He is supposed to be the best. The toys in the waiting room are super gross, and the staff will absolutely ignore you. His brother will check you in, but he did tell us a couple times that he was not the doctor that he was the doctor's brother. He's kinda odd too but, family is family. All in all, if you're just prepared for the clutter and multitude of dirty toys (not only in the waiting room in the exam rooms too!) and the odd behaviors and, um, "different" appearance, then its cool to know your kids in good hands, I guess. read more

So, the appointment was 45 minutes late, the office is a mess of not-so-clean toys, and the staff was friendly. But, the "eccentricity" of the doctor freaked the crap out of my four year old. My daughter is normally extremely social, and interacts well with adults. She'd never been exposed to a man dressed as a woman before, and she was scared to death. Some people in the reviews seem turned off by the clutter but it made me and my child feel at home, especially when doctors offices can be so intimidating. Dr. Busse was wonderful with my 15 month old daughter. I was so worried about her eyes and he did a fabulous job calming me and had all kinds of tricks to keep her focused so he could check her eyes. **However, the front desk ladies acted very unprofessional and made me want to cry and rush out of there. They talked as if they were in a sound proof booth and I wouldn't be able to hear them. I forgot my daughter's insurance card and had to call my pediatrician to fax it over. As well as get my husband to take pictures of it and email it. So, I did cause them a bit more work, but I could clearly hear them talking about the situation when one asked the other lady what was going on. When she told her, "she forgot her insurance card". The other lady very loudly announced, "that is ridiculous! You should carry it everywhere! I can't believe how stupid it is for her to forget it." Then while noticing my daughter playing she remarked, "That baby is beautiful. Well, she's lucky she has such a pretty baby. I guess we can let her off this time. (Laughs)" I was sitting in the very back of the waiting room and heard every word. I was absolutely mortified and spent the rest of an already stressful trip on edge. .... Because when your worried your daughter might have a tumor that's causing the eye issue you just need some kindness and compassion. Our 2 year old showed signs of a very serious condition. I left a message with Dr. Busse and was in the next morning. It turned out to be a false alarm but the doctor was quick, understanding, and didn't treat us like overreacting parents. It was a good experience. Update: I have seen a few reviews on places basically not liking the way he acts, or thinking he is cocky or odd. All might be a little true, but here is the truth. When you are the best at something, you act a little different. I'd rather have a cocky doctor who is really good than a really polite idiot. When we took our son in, he was showing a sign that could have meant cancer behind the eye. The doctor took us seriously and got us in ASAP. I know others who are in the medical field who refer to him and all I have seen is that the guy knows his stuff. My 16-yr-old special needs son has been a patient of Dr. Busse's from a very young age. My son's had 29 overall surgeries, including 4 eye surgeries performed by Dr. Busse. She's been a wonderful eye care advocate for my son who looks forward to every visit. Dr. Busse and her staff have ALWAYS been professional and caring! I should mention that we 1st met Dr. Busse as a 2nd opinion. She's been an important part of my son's medical team ever since. So why not 5 stars? As mentioned by several reviewers, there are way too many toys... EVERYWHERE! While sitting in Dr. Busse's waiting room last week, my son, who used to LOVE the toys, made a remark that the practice could never move because they have too much 'stuff!' Kids with a cough, stuffy noses, maybe even the flu, move from toy to toy without tissues or wipes. Yesterday (9/12/18) My husband left work early (took a late lunch) and arrive at the office. Met me in the parking lot, grab our son out of the car and we proceed inside. He was wearing his police detective uniform a polo shirt, black dress pants, dress shoes. His radio, badge, and yes his gun was on his belt. As we reach the counter to check into the office, the office manager (Sonya B.) said "you need to take that back to your car" as she made a gesture towards his duty weapon on his belt next to his badge. She then Informed us they will not treat my son until he removed his gun. My husband is NEVER one to make a scene. He advised her I was returning to work immediately after and I am a police officer that is currently still on duty. She then asked " are we paying you to be here?" She then advised us they had had issues with other officers with refusing to remove their firearms, and they don't want cops there. He looked at her while I was holding our son and said "you have a nice day ma'am" and began to walk out. Due to my sons age (almost one) if we waited any longer to get into another doctor he would have to have surgery if he didn't have the procedure soon. At this point we had little choice. Just about any parent would make the same choice he did. He took off his gun but left his badge and proceeded back inside. The 30 minutes inside were some of the most uncomfortable moments I've experienced in many years. I wont try to sway you not to use this doctor but I will say we will not be returning. Yes - the entire office and the doc are... um... "interesting," but I do believe Dr. Busse is a VERY good doctor. My daughter, who has special needs, has been seeing him for around 3 years, now... Very glad we "found" him... :) One piece of advice - don't let your kid(s) play w/ ANY of the toys in the waiting room... there's a LOT of toys, so it's really tempting for the poor kids who really want to play w/ them, but EVERYTIME we've come for an appointment, and if my daughter plays w/ the toys - I can COUNT on her getting sick... His office sees a LOT of patients, so - of course you can't "Lysol-down" all the toys between kids... I've only seen the OD Zeenia Ansari who is great but man hands down the rudest receptionist ever. The office is cluttered for such a small space and the office staff area behind the glass looks like a chachki bomb exploded. Paper signs taped to everything for what they do NOT (all officially dark and bolded) do. It all feels of disarray or no one really running the shop. Let's not forget the one random Friday the office was closed when I came to pick up my kids glasses and saw another father with his child out of his mind as no one told him they decided to close and cancel his appointment....and of course I left without said glasses. Today in writing this with the extra time I have in the waiting room as I'm now officially 15 min past my appointment time....literally the only one on the waiting room so maybe Dr Busse could do the follow up...no wait I don't think she is here today. I think the office suffers from a staff that pretty much just doesn't give a flying you know what. I'm not sure if that is learned behavior from Dr Busse as I have never seen the doc, just the awesome Zeenia Ansari which has been the only saving grace. I took my almost four year old daughter in today. We called this morning, after noticing something off with one of her eyes that could have been cancer. We were able to get an appointment same day. My mother called to make the appointment and said the office staff is horrendous and rude and very unhelpful. I dealt with them as well, and while they didn't seem like the friendliest bunch, they were nicer than others I've dealt with. No complaints about them on my end. The doctor's brother (I believe his brother, from what I've gathered from other reviews) called us back into a room filled with toys. I was surprised to see an actual room with so many things to keep a child occupied and comfortable, and was pleased. The man was incredibly nice and friendly, while very knowledgeable and straight forward. He gave us lots of information and my daughter who is typically scared by doctors offices was very comfortable, as he was very nice and patient and allowed her to do one of the tests while sitting atop a toy. Dr. Busse himself is amazing. Other reviews say he's odd, and yes he's different, but smart and friendly and knows his stuff. He's different from me and my friends, but who cares? He's the best at what he does, and when it comes to specialty care for your child, appearance shouldn't matter over knowledge and experience. He was patient and kind and gave us loads of information about our toddler's eyes and development. He was funny and smart and made her feel comfortable, and when he found absolutely nothing wrong with her eyes, he didn't make us feel like paranoid and overreacting parents at all (which is rare in a doctor so I've found - so I love that about him). Overall, I can't give a five start review because the waiting room was cramped and there wasn't enough seating. The overabundance of toys weren't the cleanest (but take that with a grain of salt because I'm a germaphobe), and the staff could have been more welcoming. Otherwise, everything was great! The doctor was amazing and while we didn't get seen for 30 minutes after our check-in time, we didn't mind because we knew it was because he was taking the time to be thorough and answer questions, just like he did for us. Dr. Busse, is an expert and I trust her judgement when it comes to my son's eyes since first meeting when my son was five years old. My son is 13yrs old and still sees her BECAUSE of her expertise with children's eyevision. I diverted years ago because I was told by my son's medical doctor he no longer needed to see the specialist. For two years, I took him to the Costco Eye Center (probably not the best selection of random eye doctors that circulate there). I have to say, those eye doctors were not qualified to diagnosis my son's eye problems or help improve it. After the one doctor suggested my son needed bifocals, I KNEW these doctors had no clue how to take care of my son's eye problems. Regardless of what Busse's office looks like, how you may have been treated by the front desk gals, Dr Busse KNOWs young children's eyes. I trust her with my son's eyesight. read more

I really like Dr. Busse. He has seeen 2 of my boys for eye exams, and preformed surgery to remove a mole from an eyelid for my 5-year-old. The surgery went very well and I had complete confidence that Dr. Busse would do a great job. Dr. Busse is AMAZING! If you have a small child or a child with special needs as I do there isn't a better doctor out there. You can read the other reviews and get a pretty good understanding of the office. It's cluttered and a bit dirty but the kids love it. The ladies running the front are very nice but busy. Dr. Busse's brother will call you to the back and get additional info. He has been called "odd" in other reviews but he's incredibly nice and down to earth. The big stand out for this office is Dr. Busse. He is like no other doctor I have ever been to. My daughter is autistic and nonverbal. She has a lot of specialists so we are very use to a doctors office. There are toys in his office to keep her happy. He has the chair and equipment you are use to seeing at an eye doctors. However none of that works for my little girl. Not a problem. He uses other tools to test and measure her eyes all while she is playing. Dr. Busse cares about what he does. I have to agree with many of the posters, he is a very odd person and it is a very odd doctor's office. He comes across as socially awkward and he, as another reviewer reports, did once tell me my son's lazy eye was just 'how God made him'. I think it is perfectly accurate to call him creepy. However, he is great with the kids. He doesn't get upset if they are unfocused and he is relatively quick with his examination. Some reviewers complain about the toys in the office, but I am happy the kids have something to do while you are waiting (my sons' primary pediatrician has nothing by a fishtank and a couple of books). And, frankly, I think he is good at what he does. So, in short, if your pediatrician tells you to go see him, go, just be aware that it will be an experience. read more

I have been going to Dr. Busse since my son was 16 mos. old - he is now 12, and Dr. Busse is just awesome. I'm not sure what the other reviewers were talking about because he's always been extra-kind to my son, professional, and willing to take time to explain things to me. When my son needed surgery 3 years ago, I discovered that even Vanderbilt Univ. Medical School refers patients to Dr. Busse. As soon as the surgery was over, Dr. Busse came out to see me. He was so kind and gentle, and told me that all had gone well. Dr. Busse's brother helps by serving as an optemetric assistant. He does routine office work and basic chart work (similar to when someone weighs you at the drs. office). This frees up Dr. Busse to devote himself to patients who require his specialized training. One of my friends took her daughter to him, and she is now doing so well, she's wearing contact lenses. We both think Dr. Busse has changed our children's lives for the better. read more

Please don't try to put this on my insurance! My rating has nothing to do with my insurance and every thing to do with your business. I explained to your staff that my insurance does NOT require a referral. Your staff informed me that it is YOUR office policy to not accept appointments without a referral, regardless of insurance. I was flabbergasted and expressed my deep frustration to your staff while I was on the call. I'm sure you have your reasons for requiring referrals when it is not a requirement by the patient's insurance company. Not accepting new patients I can understand, but my son is an existing patient! I certainly hope you don't treat your other patients this way. And if you don't, I have no idea why we were singled out. read more

Dr Busse is an excellent doctor. I could not ask for a better doctor for my son. My son suffered an injury to the eye that required immediate attention, I called the emergency line, explained what had happened and Dr Busse was willing to see him after hours. She was great. The office is so kid friendly. They have a variety of different toys and books to keep the kiddos entertained. My son really loved the old time arcade game. We've been seeing Dr Busse for about 3 years and have never had a bad experience with her or her staff. There was an incident that occurred while I was waiting to see the doctor with another parent and the office manager was so professional on how she handled the situation w/ the irate parent. We took our son here with some concerns about one of his eyes being weak. Our pediatrician could not seem to tell if there was anything wrong but Dr. Keith was able to see it almost immediately. He did not demand that my active three year old boy sit quietly in a chair, he had toys and interesting lights to keep his attention and let him play in between his talks with me. My 4 year old son was showing signs of strabismus and I took him to see Dr. Busse. The waiting room was busy and full of toys that kept the kids occupied during the brief wait. Dr. Busse was patient, thorough, calm and kind with my two young boys and was able to elicit a full ophthalmologic exam without restraint, pain or fear and my son left having chosen an adorable (and durable) pair of glasses from the wide variety available in-office.
