Some friends and I decided to stop by and have some Indian cuisine while we were attending a convention in Chantilly. This particular restaurant came highly recommended by a staff member at the hotel we were staying. Pros: we were seated fast. It was early after noon on a Friday and it was relatively empty. The server was prompt and the food was tasty. I had curry chicken. They bring rice for the whole table to share and the pita bread was soft and enough for everyone. Con: the server seemed annoyed with one of the ladies at our table when she asked questions and when she showed him a yelp coupon for 10 percent off 25 dollars. He snatched the credit slip from one of the ladies at our table and was very short with us a few times. The prices are reasonable ranging from teens to low 20's per dish. The restaurant looks pretty outdated but perhaps the focus is more on food quality than decor. I'm not sure but a few places we visited had unfriendly staff in Chantilly. Called for Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Naan. They' charged me 32$ for that. Staff is not trained and they assumed that it was for pick up. After 1 hour, we called to check the status. We were told that they didn't know it was for delivery and now they will send someone. We got our food which was cold and they asked cash to pay for it. Very not impressed so I never went back. I saw all these good reviews and thought maybe I hit an off day. Took my parents on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch. We sat outside and were the only ones there. One guy was working. I ordered the veggie thali because I can never commit to just one curry, my dad got the non veggie thali -- same reason. My mom who is not really a fan of Indian food but is always game to try got the chicken boti kabob. My dad and I ordered spicy. Everything was very flavorful not spicy just zingy. Kind of a bummer, but flavor made up for it. My mom loved her kabobs. Chicken was tender and juicy and perfectly seasoned. Garlic naan was good as well. Seems like Indian buffets are in short supply after COVID. Came across this one because my coworker has not had much Indian food and wanted options. Buffet was ~$17 pp. The food was fairly good for a buffet but the options were limited. A few trays were closed, which limited the options even more. The place was not too busy, so not sure why it took time to refill the buffet for some items. However, it did seem like there were only three staff working for a Friday lunch hour. I went for lunch with a friend and was thrilled by how amazing the food was. We started with samosas, which were perfectly fried with incredibly flavored filling. Since my last review from a year ago I've had the opportunity to sample lots of Indian / Pakistani / Afghanistani restaurants. That also means I haven't had the chance to come back here until now. My previous review was for the buffet, but this update was regarding the carry-out lunch platter for around $6.99 (with it you get rice, 1 veggie, 1 meat dish) from the buffet. Your typical clamshell styrofoam take-out containter is used which means one large section of rice and 2 small sections for your veggie and meat. Perhaps the abundance of good Indian buffets has spoiled me but those curry portions looked really underwhelming, so I was somewhat disappointed, although they still tasted pretty good. Upon entering, your olfactory senses are immediately greeted by the succulent smells of curry and other Indian spices. I've only eaten in the restaurant once - but I've ordered take out many times. My favorites from their menu include the Salmon Curry, Chicken Curry, Lamb Curry, the Tandori Salmon, and the Murg Tikka Tandoori. All the entrees are served with a fragrant Saffron Basmati rice. For appetizers - try out the Assorted Appetizer for Two - Chicken Tikka, vegetable Pakora, Samosa and Seekh Kabob. Delicious! I'd also recommend ordering some Indian Tandoori bread with a side of the Raita - a refreshing yogurt and cucumber sauce. When you order, you have the option of having them make your dish "Indian hot," that is to say - crank up the level of spiciness to the maximum level. Unless you enjoy spicy dishes and curry, I'd recommend against doing this. I order my food at the maximum spice level each time, and I usually work up a good sweat while eating my meal! The buffet always has a nice selection of chicken, beef, and vegetarian dishes. All are nicely prepared and not too spicy. Their butter chicken, curry eggs, and matar paneer are great. The food here is great for entrées! I learned that the second go-around with this place. My first experience was not so great, no one greeted us, lack of communication, wait time, and it was empty. I took my family and friends earlier close to opening and it was buffet only however, no one was there so I get they had to get rid of buffet food... I had not gone back there since. A coworker suggested a couple of meals and so I gave them another shot. So far so good!Their spicy is really spicy and tolerable for my pallet. I ordered the appetizer platter tonight-I like the extra onions it comes with, I use the extra onions to eat with the other meals I ordered. Palak paneer- which could have used a lot more paneer... I only got 3 pieces...... . The butter chicken chicken was good, but how can you go wrong with it? If you want fast, decent tasting Indian Preet's your man! While in the Centreville area around dinner time I decided to stop in for some Indian food. Upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the inside of the restaurant looked and upon being sat, I saw Pakora on the menu and asked the lady who sat me for an order of Veggie Pakora and she walked away... A couple of minutes later an older guy wearing a "Levi" hat with a flat brim walked up and asked if I was ready to order. I said not yet, but I did want the veggie pakora and he walked away. Upon checking out the menu, they have the typical, large selection of curries and kabobs, as well as having a Tandoor oven, so they have naan and various other breads. I opted for a Seekh kabob and when he returned I asked him for that. He asked if I wanted chicken or lamb and when I tried to ask how may come, he didn't understand me, so I selected chicken to avoid further confusion. Meanwhile, the pakora arrived and it was very bland. The batter had no spice to is whatsoever and the veggies that were in it were of a consistency of which I couldn't describe. It was overly salty and very boring. The nice thing was that they brought a sauce tray with green mint chutney, which seems to be rare in most restaurants these days as most want to serve or sell (at an extra price) riata instead. The chutney had no spice to it and hardly any flavor. The Seekh kabob came and it looked just like chicken sausage that was put through a sausage maker and piped out and put on the skewer and grilled. The flavor was decent, but it seemed to be missing much of hat you'd expect from a Seekh kabob. The naan that came with it was OK, but why do these restaurants put butter on the naan and why do they cut it into quarters? I grew up using naan and chapati as a utensil and it's meant to be pulled apart, not previously cut. Overall, this might impress most who are unfamiliar with good Pakistani/Indian/Punjabi food, but I wasn't impressed and definitely won't be back. read more
