I don't even know what to say - this was an experience but not in a good way. I used more disinfectant than ever and i work in the medical field. The road in front of the entrance on our side was a sheet of ice, the Women at the register was annoyed and the table had some sticky residue all over. I cleaned that thing myself... Our server was nice, however she forgot about the drinks and then she told us they ran out of milk. My Coffecup smelled like old clothes... Observing kids doing the Buffet themselves and coughing into the food, rubbing snot off their noses and using the utensils. Then many did not even use utensils at all. Quality of food was ok, i liked the sausages for breakfast and i'm always a fan of the banana pudding. I wish there would have been a few healthy options for breakfast, all there was was a brown Banana and Melon, everything else was from a Can with lots of sugar. Steak was thin and like a shoe, i wanted a piece of ham but it was never sliced in the whole hour we were there. Chairs where ripped but they have to take up with a lot from looking around. Restaurant has a parking lot. Close to the hotel we were staying at so easy to walk to. It has a big dining space as well as a shopping area that has cute Christmas and Halloween stuff plus day to day items. Food is ok nothing too much to rave about but still good. So if you dilly-dallied about making reservations for a Thanksgiving dinner buffet or are too lazy to cook because you are exhausted from work, and aren't pompous, Golden Corral is a decent alternative. And for less than $20 per person, the price point is excellent. The atmosphere is very casual. We trekked over on I-66 from Alexandria on Thanksgiving Day and arrived around noon. It was already crowded with people spilling out onto the sidewalk. Nevertheless, it didn't take long to get seated. Golden Corral is a bit of a hybrid. Different from other buffets, there are servers refilling drinks and bringing more plates and napkins. We had a great and responsive server (or servers because we were assisted by at least three staffers). The food was actually very good, including several holiday dishes. One curiosity about Golden Corral is that since you pay as you come in, they have the expectation that to tip your servers, you need to go back to the cashier and use your ATM card (if you don't have cash already) to get money to give to your servers. A good choice for Mother's Day! The price point and quality of the food are a good deal. The restaurant is always clean and staff are quick to wipe down spills. The meat was moist and flaky, and came off the bones easily. The steak was perfectly seasoned and tender. Just get in line and tell them how you want your steak. Sometimes it's not so tender, but always good! This week, the grillmeisters are on point! My wife was super impressed with the huge Chocolate Dipped Strawberries in the Dessert Bar. They were perfectly ripe and were as good as the ones we had on our trip to Hawaii last week. The fresh cut pineapple is always juicy and sweet and the cantaloupe and honeydew melons are ripe. Seen their commercials a million times so I was excited to try this place when we stopped here for lunch as part of a tour we were on. We were one of the first ones there so there was no wait for us. The space is large we many seating areas. The tables and chairs were extremely dirty where we had to grab a lot of napkins to wipe down. The cups and utensils were dirty as well. We were there last week, a weekday for a late lunch. The salad was excellent, along with many very good choices for toppings and dressing, the whole salad thing was very healthy. The main dishes seemed to favor more fried food, so I went back for a second salad with all different ingredients and it was great. I've been to many golden corrals before and this is the closest one to me, a 30 min drive. The food is the same as pre-pandemic times, so it's good! However, the service is slow, regardless if it's busy. I'd still come back for the food and price. Food: I ate dinner here and it's worth it! They serve steak cooked to order, but don't expect it to be cooked to perfection. My first one was perfect, then the rest was over cooked. I order medium rare by the way. Selections are American and typical, but it's such a huge selection. Atmosphere: Casual, the dessert section is messy since most kids are there. Some parents don't know how to keep their kids in place, so beware. Service: The servers are supposed to give you plates and utensils. My server took forever to get me utensils. I even thought about getting it myself in their little server section! I had to ask 3 different people just to get plates. One of them doesn't understand me, just nods. I have been curious to try Golden Corral for awhile, so I made the trip out to Manassas to check it out. I arrived at just before 4 to get the early bird/senior price, which was $9.99 as of 07/29/2024. I checked out the food and was a little confused as I did not see any plates. I then realized you have to be seated where a server will bring you plates and whatever drink you selected (I just had water). Took a few minutes for a server to arrive, but not a problem. I was give four plates so off I went. I went protein heavy; I had fried chicken, fish both baked and fried, ribs, pot roast, bourbon chicken, and meat loaf. I had a tiny bit of mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, mac and cheese, squash, fried okra, onion rings, hush puppies, collard greens, and corn bread. Lastly a little bit of chocolate soft serve ice cream and a chocolate dipped strawberry. I wanted to try other desserts but I was just too full after three plates of food. Overall, the food was okay. The stand out was the fried chicken; it was perfection. I also enjoyed the pot roast and the ribs. Everything else I tried was average or maybe a smidgen better; I did like the corn bread as well. Would I go again? Perhaps if the restaurant was closer (for me it was a 40 minute drive). $10 after all is ridiculously cheap these days, and is certainly a good value for the variety and the amount you can eat. Golden Corral is a solid buffet spot. It has all the workings of what you would want in a buffet: steak, tacos, pizza, pasta, chicken, salad, and desserts. The quality is sub-par, but for the price you can't really complain. My favorite is the bread they have. So soft, warm, and buttery. Every time I go, my family dedicate a plate to its deliciousness. Often times the steak pieces I get are more fat than meat, but getting to go back an unlimited number of times for as many steaks I want allows me to get my fill for however many pieces go on my plate. I walk through the restaurant, moving in a zig zag to avoid the piles of garbage, including dirty silverware, used napkins, and crumpled up "silverware paper". I mean literal garbage all over the joint, under the tables and across the floor. One of the only tables left was 5ft away from a ginormous tower of dirty plates, food scraps, and half empty drink cups - talk about a DUMP! No other option though, so we sit down at a tattered and torn up booth, with stained cushion foam exposed beneath shredded upholstery. Now the food... I'd put most of their offerings below the commissary of the county prison... the steak was like eating a piece of leather. Pot roast a congealed mush of goop and who knows what. French fries were thrown onto the tray by the workers BARE HANDS after spilling them on the counter. Popcorn shrimp were pathetic, consistency of a paddy taffy. To top it off, I sampled the "carrot cake". The cake itself looked similar to a plastic children's you. You know the kind, uniform pieces with a "carrot" frosting on the top of each piece. The service was slow and quite honestly rude, the place was completely packed and absolutely nowhere to sit, and when we finally did get in they put us at a dirty table! Plates, silverware, and drinks still all on the table, the manager was out as they were about to have a giant party, so that made it even worse as they had that place closed off, and the manager was RUDE, he was yelling at people just trying to find out where to sit, yelling at his workers because they weren't going fast enough, and just giving rude looks to people that could actually get a seat just enjoying their meal. To start from the food, most of the food was cold and old. There were large feathers still on the fried chicken. The service here is strange the server brings you plates if they are paying attention, mine was not and took quite a bit. She was pleasant but never checked on our table at all. This system puts the hard working servers at a disadvantage because there's no way to leave a tip on the bill. if you have cash, you can leave it on the table, of course. They deserve tips! My daughter and I did not leave empty plates. We'd taste whatever we got, make a face, taste something else, make another face. First of all -- don't @ me, people. I know it's Golden Corral. I know it's supposed to be dirty, mass-produced, cheap buffet food that anyone should be embarrassed to eat. But you know what? It's actually quite good. You wouldn't want to eat here every week, but it's totally worth checking out as a special treat. No, the food isn't gourmet, but it's all quite serviceable. A couple of dishes were clearly unpopular and therefore had sat around a while and gotten crusty and gross, but most things were being snatched up so quickly that fresh replacements were always coming out. There are SO many dishes to choose from - salads, comfort foods, meats, pizza, fried foods, grilled foods, seafood, you name it. And the desserts, god, the desserts -- pies, cobblers, ice creams, cookies, brownies, the list goes on. I thoroughly enjoyed every dish that I tried. Were the tacos as good as a 5-star taco place? No, but they hit a 3-star mark. Same for the other stuff. Except one thing. The steak. There's a grill where you walk up and tell the grillmaster how you want your steak cooked. They're constantly putting new steaks on the grill, so they know the cooking length that each piece has undergone thus far and can slice you off a piece of medium, medium-well, etc., to your preference. AND IT'S SO GOOD. I have paid $30 or more at steakhouses for worse steak. The steak was perfectly cooked, flavorful, and tender. It's a very lean sirloin, which is what I prefer. I know many steak eaters like a more marbled, fatty steak like a Ribeye or Strip, but considering this is one element of a $14 (I think that's what the adult price was, I honestly forget -- and by the way, kids eat CHEAP or free, depending on age) buffet, I was blown away by how good the steak is. 4-star steak for sure. So, I alluded there to the price. You can't beat it, especially for the food quality and amount you can eat. I went with my extended family of four adults and three kids, and we all ate for about $70. And I embarrassed myself by eating five plates! Ha. So what WASN'T great? The utensils kept running out. Took us a while to get some, and then the spoons on the dessert bar kept running out too. The place gets CROWDED. We went at 5 p.m., and it was very tight seating in there, but manageable at the buffet. By the time we left, there was a line out the door and it was getting piled higher. Go early. The drinks were slow to get refilled; seems they need more servers for that many people. Also, the drinks, by the time they did arrive, were all melty and didn't have fresh ice. I didn't use the bathroom, but one of my family members told me they were the most disgusting bathrooms they've ever seen. Look, if you don't go in expecting a gourmet restaurant, you won't be disappointed. But if you have some realistic expectations, you may just be surprised at how wonderful Golden Corral is and come away wondering how they stay in business while offering such decent food at such a low price with so much variety. Since COVID-19 has been a persisting issue throughout all of last year and so far going into this year, it's nice to see establishments taking the necessary measures and precautions to help protect themselves as well as their customers. After reopening post Covid-19 closing, the food was terrible. Now the food has improved. The steak and fried chicken are usually very good. The salad bar is good but the customers really make a mess. They are very busy and need to have dedicated busboy staff to free up the waitstaff to actually refill drinks and bring clean plates. It's truly gross for waitstaff to be elbow deep in dirty dishes with dirty tables taking priority over customer service.
