I visited them for lunch and dinner a couple years ago but this was my first time trying their Sunday brunch buffet. Their brunch buffet is only $35! It's the cheapest brunch buffet I've heard of in vancouver and they offer a great variety of savoury and sweet dishes. The quality of the dishes was also good. They have vegetarian and meat options. They also have warm and cold breakfast dishes. Along with a nice variety of pastries, fruits, breads, and toppings. They also had live music from 10:30 I think. They had a duo playing guitar and singing English songs and another duo singing Persian songs. The only problem I had was that the plates were very small so you either had to put small amounts on the plate and make a trip every 15 minutes or use multiple small plates on each trip. The cups were also small. I had to get up every 15-20 minutes and walk across the room with my cup, fill it with water and come back and do it all over again. I think I'm comfortable declaring that this place has the best Persian food currently in Vancouver. Not necessarily the service or environment, but the food here I believe takes #1. They start off with serving you in-house baked bread with cucumber yogurt dip and it was delicious. The beef kabob "koobideh" dish I could not find any fault in. The meat was cooked exactly the way "koobideh" is supposed to be cooked. Don't make me explain ...it's too complicated ....just go try it and you'll know what Persian koobideh is supposed to taste like. Also, the rice was a 10/10. Every single check mark that exists with cooking the right Persian rice was ticked with this rice. No aftertaste, the length of the grain was fully extended which means they know the boiling time and draining time and of course the in-pot steaming time was calculated very carefully. The side bbq'd tomatoes were freshly bbq'd. How can I tell? well.....freshly bbq'd tomatoes have a sweet aftertaste, whereas a stale tomato bbq'd has no taste at all after being heated. The chicken kabob "joojeh" was also cooked to perfection! Juicy on the inside while some parts on the outside were slightly bbq's crispy and well seasoned. It was amazing....the way that bird was cooked you could have the chunks of the chicken with a garlicky caesar salad and it would've been.....yummm. That's how good the chicken was. The rice served with the chicken....well.....(see above). A 4/5 because I think the service could be better. Maybe a little friendlier...a smile here and there....a "how is everything?" now and then....a "can I get you anything else?".... Excellent kebob torsh, great lamb neck, skip the koobideh, slow service and overall pricy. This restaurant was recommended by locals for their kebob torsh which was a great recommendation. At the restaurant the waitress easily convinced me to upgrade my platter and add a koobideh, but this was a bad call as it didn't taste great and it was a bit chewy; unfortunately one of the worse I had. On the other hand the lamb neck was really tender and tasty. Service was slow, the waitress wasn't mean or anything but slow and with few words. Another small thing was that they added a surcharge for getting half salad and half rice with my plate, but it was not mentioned. Also the prices for each item are a few dollars more then other similar restaurants. Overall go try the kebob torsh, and if you're into lamb try the lamb neck, but do yourself a favor and stay away from that kebob! read more

I am not sure why the poor reviews. We stopped by for lunch and service was fantastic. We were seated right away and we ordered a few items to share for lunch. We ordered yogurt eggplant dip, hummus and vaziri kebab (chicken and ground beef) to share. Pita, onions and water arrived first. Then the hummus and eggplant dips were dropped off. The eggplant was creamy and tasty. The hummus was okay. I have had creamier hummus elsewhere and I wished there was a stronger garlic flavour. Our server dropped off more pita when she noticed we finished our pita pile fairly quickly. I really appreciated that. The kebabs arrived after a short wait. The kebabs were made well. Meat was nicely marinated, flavourful and juicy. There was plenty of rice to share. Grilled tomato tasted as expected. I would recommend the eggplant dip over the hummus if you were looking for something to accompany the meal. No complaints on the service. Overall, it was 4.5 stars experience. read more

This is the Fourth time that I have visited Vancouver and I've dined at Gilaneh restaurant for lunch and breakfast and was thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff are exceptionally friendly and nice. The food was amazing, with each dish showcasing fresh, high-quality ingredients and balanced flavors. Great food! Nice service and quiet/pleasant ambience! Wow! The first thing that came to my mind when I arrived there, was its beautiful interior design. The servers were nice and attentive. We ordered twi dishes (kaleh pache and kabob torsh) and both were cooked perfectly. It was obvious that the food was prepared with care and more importantly nothing was excessive, not too salty or fatty which generally happens to Mediterranean and Persian foods in restaurants. Well appointed with Persian decor including a working fireplace gives together with background ethnic music gives this place a warm relaxing ambiance dining experience. Came here for lunch yesterday before returning home to Seattle after a couple of days visiting family in West Vancouver. I've married into a Persian family and we all crave chelo-kebab when in VAN because we just haven't found a good spot close to home (though sis-in-law was saying Caspian in Bellevue is pretty good these days). Sister-in-law and hubby ordered barg-kebab w/ zereshk pulao. I got the koobideh with plain rice. The koobideh comes with 2 skewers and though I asked, there is no option to halve it. So we brought home leftovers for hubby's lunch today! The smell of the saffron on the rice was intoxicating when the food arrived, a good sign. There were little authentic Iranian touches missing- no raw onion served with the bread and herbs brought out initially. No butter pats on the side of the chelo-kebab mains that I could melt into my steaming rice. Initially the meat seemed to be cooked perfectly, but then upon further eating- the middle of the koobideh definitely was not cooked all the way through. Hubby thought his barg was OK, nothing exceptional. I would say that my experience at Mehman last year was better overall, but hubby's family suggested Gilaneh when hubby mentioned his barg-kebab there was very dry. I would say that I will probably give Mehman a return try (with a request not to overcook the barg) before I would come to Gilaneh again. Probably the worst Persian restaurant i have ever been too. Did not look clean at all! The customer service was extremely bad. We ordered a few appetizers and for the main dish, I got lamb with rice. Everyone else's food was served and about 5 minutes later mine was served. Looked very appetizing. I started digging in. After the first couple of bites, I got to the center of the lamb and it was freezing cold. Not room temperature cold, but fridge cold. The only explanation is that they had cooked it previously. Kept it in the fridge (for sure at least over night since it was super cold), then took it out of the fridge and reheated it! I was absolutely disgusted at the idea of which of their other dishes they do this to. It took us another 5 minutes to flag the server (since she never stopped by to see how we were doing) and when I told her what the problem was, she said I will go heat it up and come back!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD........ seriously?????????? YOU DO NOT DO THAT! When I already know that the food was cooked, put in the fridge, taken out and reheated!!!!!!! God know how long ago and at that point, I was not even sure if it came from someone else's plate! I said I do not want anything anymore and she can just take it! No apologies offered, She just walked away with the food. Later, when they brought the check, she said she did not charge us for that dish!!! Lol, of course you did not! We were seating in the back corner of the restaurant for lunch but it was mostly empty. It didn't take long for them to get our order, but guests came in after us, were seated, and received food before we did. We waited over half an hour to receive food while watching other patrons enjoy and finish their meals. The actual food wasn't great. Koobideh was the greasiest I've had in comparison to the other North Van Persian restaurants. Bread was ok, stew wasn't great. Cleaning tables with Windex when other tables around are eating? The smell was terrible! Can you atleast use something Green maybe? No greeting or a simple hello when you enter, disappointing. Both the beef and chicken dishes that me and my boyfriend ordered were pretty bad. Let's just say that when my boyfriend tried to share some of his beef skewers with me (because he didn't want to eat them lol) that I felt like I had to try to suck it up to not waste the food. "Here we go again...one more bite." The service was slowww. The place was pretty empty and the one worker there didn't pay attention to when we were finished. We ended up having to stand up and go to the front to pay. I swear I sat there and saw a tumbleweed go by through the restaurant. (There was only one other table of customers at the time). The food was okay at Gilaneh. However, their service really lacked in many areas. Our utensils were dirty, our waitress was late and never checked on us even though it wasn't that busy. Also, the restaurant really needs to get cleaned up. There was dust everywhere. They seem to only clean the tables and not anywhere else. Will not be going back. read more

I've eaten here 4 times and have a few go-to dishes: olive appetizer, lamb chops, either eggplant dishes, yogurt and baklava. Got this recommendation from a Persian friend who knows I love Persian food and go to Cazba quite often. I can't say one is better than the other since they're similar but different. I discovered it right away when I didn't get an onion with the complimentary basket of pita. The food is excellent although I don't find much difference to Cazbah's salad, humes, tahdig ba khoresh (crispy rice), chicken & beef kebabs. I think I slightly prefer Cazbah's koobideh kebabs. Price-wise you pay a dollar or two more per dish compared to Cazbah for slightly smaller portions. Regardless, Persian food is the best value in expensive Vancouver and I've been steadily eating at Gilaneh because of their appetizers, lamb-chops with saffron rice, eggplant dishes, yogurt and baklava. I am Persian living in California who visits Vancouver often and I have been looking for a good Persian Restaurant. There are plenty of them but I find the quality is usually lacking as they have to be in a certain price point. The prices are more expensive than average North Vancouver Restaurant, but I felt the quality of food was much better. I give them a four because their loghmeh and chicken kabab are amazing. Literally one of the best I've ever had. However, they really need to work on their appetizers. Kashke bademjun and mirzagjasemi did not taste good and the shirazi salad didn't have any abghure or lime and salt on it. A $25+tip all you can eat for a 40 people party last night pay upfront. The party was held in the upper level that is in serious need for renovation,( e.g. dangerous staircase, Men's room out of commission.) The food was served 1 hour later than schedule, and it wasn't enough even though it was supposed to be a all you can eat. People had to wait in line for a long time for the servants to bring more food and when they finally brought more food, there wasn't enough of it. They did not bring more food after. The Kebab was cold and greasy. They made tea and coffee I think but it finished and they didn't make more. :( The music was good overall and the guests really enjoyed dancing there. I went to this restaurant with my parents earlier tonight and I have to say that I'm not impressed. Food was decent, I've had better Persian food at other restaurants, the staff were friendly, not as attentive as I'm used to but that's sort of what you get with Persian restaurants. We ordered coke or Pepsi to drink, and we were brought two western family cola's. We were not told they don't have coke or Pepsi, they just brought two western family colas. I guess they are trying to keep costs down or something, but I didn't find that good at all. It would of been nice to be told they don't serve what we asked for. Anyhow, half way through our meal, the staff started cleaning the restaurant, they were cleaning mats and sweeping as we were eating, and they also started cleaning the kitchen I'm guessing with this really strong chemicals, the odor had taken over the entire restaurant. I didn't even finished my food and paid the bill and left. After arriving home and upon getting changed, I noticed that my clothes smell just like the cleaning chemicals they used in the restaurant. This was not a pleasant experience and I'll be sure to not return to this establishment. read more
