I had a very disappointing experience at Mehta Dental in Brea. I went in for a molar with cavities and was told I needed a root canal and crown, which they said would be covered by my Insurance. They began the root canal but stopped midway, then suddenly told me the tooth should be extracted instead. While I was still under heavy anesthesia, their billing staff came in and informed me that instead of the $250 out-of-pocket cost I was quoted, I would now be charged $685 for an extraction with a bone graft -- a procedure and price that were never discussed with me beforehand. When I declined the bone graft due to the cost, the dentist strongly pressured me to get it anyway. I declined again, and they sent me home with only a temporary filling and a half-drilled tooth, which has been extremely painful. Since then, I've contacted other dental offices and have been quoted $450 for the same extraction -- hundreds less than what Mehta Dental tried to charge me. This whole experience left me feeling misled, pressured, and uncared for. Dental work is already stressful enough without surprise charges and aggressive upselling. I cannot recommend this office. read more

First time at this dental office and they were so welcoming. I had my 3 year old son who was also being seen. After his cleaning, Sonia and Ingrid helped out with my son who was being a handful while I was getting my work done with Mr. Zhang & Griselda. They explained in depth on what is a priority & addressed all my current concerns. Never had I experienced an office that educates you on the care & procedures in a way that could be understood without confusion. All of last week I was trying to schedule an appt with this office. Ingrid has been such a displeasure to work with. She has stated over and over that my insurance is not active. Per her request, I was on the phone with Blue Shield over 5x last week alone. I had scheduled an appt for tomorrow and she sends me a message again that I'm inactive. The insurance had to call their office to rectify the situation and let her know I was active. I'm not sure what her problem is but she has a gross attitude when speaking on the phone as well. She's not thorough when it comes to her job. Not sure what she's doing at her desk but she's definitely not doing what's needed. This type of employee is what ruins your reputation. Lack of communication, ignorant attitude, and unwilling to do their job. Go elsewhere. read more

I've been going to Mehta dental for several years. Their staff is always so pleasant and eager to help. Especially Sonia. She is amazing and always has such positive energy. Dr. B and Sons are all great at what they do and I have yet to have a better experience with another dentist. My only wish is that they were a pediatric dentist as well as this would make my life so much easier. My youngest son wouldn't sit for dental procedures and we had to search for a pediatric dentist. This was a frustrating experience as my insurance was not very helpful. They asked if my primary dentist recommended a pediatric dentist and I let them know not one that was able to provide anesthesia. Then they provided me with a list of over 50 dentists and said I would have to call each one to see who could assist. Needless to say, when my youngest son is able to finally sit for a dental procedure he will be going to Mehta as well. Like the rest of the family. Highly recommend this establishment. They have been our family dentist for years and we are very happy with the service they provide each and every time. read more

The office people and manager told me I could get the treatment done and pay for it through care credit at NO INTEREST for 18 months. To my SURPRISE! when I got online to pay for my treatment the office set it up so I could only get 6months no interest on 1/2 the changes and 12 months on the other 1/2. I was LIVID when I found this out. I called the office at Mehta dentistry to have them change the pay arrangements to 18 months no interest as I was told. The people at Care credit said Mehta could change it to 18 months. My sister works in a dental office and said they randomly change these terms. Needless to say the Mehta manager said NO it had to be done through the main office. So why not have the main office do it. I think they did not want the main office to know they SCREWED UP!! The mehta office asked me if I wanted the bill divided up. I said it don't matter. The manager mentioned because of this they could not change the time to 18 months. If that is the case they should have said you can not get 18 months if you divide the bill, THAT IS A NO BRAINER. Bad customer service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the doctor seemed knowledgable. I recommend you avoiding this place at all cause they are just all about MONEY and nothing about customer service, I refer my boyfriend here for Dental work "Cash Patient" they made him pay for all his services up front knowingly they weren't going to complete it all at the same time. The owner started his root canal he somehow messed up and had to refer him to a specialist, than he came back the son which is the so called Manager cut his mouth also made a mistake and he was bleeding. Please avoid this practice at all costs. Good bedside manner does not makeup for lack of skills and experience. Had dental crowns done twice and had to redo once as the margin between the crown and teeth were visible. Second dental crowns then caused TMJ and I am currently trying to fix it and spending thousands more due to chronic pain. It is unfathomable that trying to fix my teeth when I had no symptoms caused me more pain and I am spending so much to fix bad work. Please do your research and get second opinions at a practice that focuses on the correct alignment of your teeth instead of telling the patient that there is nothing they can do. I decided to try a new dentist and I've finally found an honest dentist/practice. In my experience, dentist that want to replace your whole mouth with veneers are out just to make money. Not one mention of veneers when I came to this office. I have chipped tooth but no reason to yank the darn thing. . Dr. Kim is extremely polite, well mannered and graduated from Tufts University. I had fillings done well and efficiently. No wait time. Went on my lunch hour and didn't miss a day of work. I did sound like Elmer Fudd during my meeting though. That was fun. The dental hygienist, sorry forgot name, was so amazing. Explained to my sons how floss and gave me great tips to brushing and flossing. The clinicians have a gentle touch and good demeanor. The admin unit is super nice. Not catty and rude but take the time to talk to every patient. Genuinely nice people. At the end of the day, it's a business but I never felt I was being sold on a treatment I didn't need. I wholeheartedly recommend this dentist. "I feel like you are looking for problems" this is what the dentist, Dr. Bijal Mehta, said to me after I complained about being told I needed to pay a co-pay for cleaning and x-rays when the woman who checked me in told me there would be no co-pays for cleaning and x-rays. When I was told to pay the co-pays I said "I will pay you if you need the money that badly but I will put that on social media and online reviews..that I specifically asked about co-pays, was told there would be no charge, and then after the treatment the office told me I had to pay a co-pay" It was not a large sum of money..but they lied to me. Also, as a side note professional woman coming in for dental care do not like to be called "Miss Kim". That is fine for a kindergarten teacher but not for a female client...what do you call the male clients? "Mr. David" Just weird. She also was not wearing a mask even though their COVID policy stated on the door says everyone must wear a mask. When I asked her she said, "Oh..my throat is bothering me" Really? like as in a symptom of COVID????! The dentist decided to waive the amount so I am writing that after complaining..and arguing, I did not pay. In addition he told me "I hate online reviews; we are not a tire shop" and I told him "Online reviews are simply the 1st hand experience of the customer shared so others can know what to expect and decide if they want to go to a place with those practices" I also asked him if he felt the same way about positive reviews and he did not answer. I chose this office because they are covered by my insurance Blue Shield and they are close to where I am staying. The office is easy to find and although the parking lot is small it is clear that the employees do not park there leaving plenty of room for the patients to park which is very considerate and a good business practice. Victor, one of the medical assistants is very professional and although I am sure he had an opinion about what was happening in the office he did not show one way or another his opinion and to his credit remained completely focused on his job. He also followed thru on the promise of the receptionist to send me the digital xrays. I did not trust the receptionist to do it since she had lied to me about the payment for the treatment so Victor did it while I was there and I saw the email come thru with the xrays while standing right next to him. After the xrays that showed every single defect you have in your mouth magnified on monitors, the dentist began the sales presentation. Mind you that I clearly made an appointment for a Cleaning and Exam..and only said yes to the xrays after I asked was told 2 things. 1. No co-payment for the xrays and 2. the patient receives them digitally for no extra charge. I then waited...and another employee brought in a "treatment plan" with every defect discovered by the dentist and the high price to correct the defects. If you travel a lot internationally you will be amused at the prices because you know that in the US the prices are inflated to cover overhead for offices and to pay off Dental School loans. In other countries the government subsidizes the education for the Dentist so they do not enter practice sadddled with hundreds of thousands of dollars of student loans that need to be paid for by finding and charging patients for defects. At long last I was told the dental hygienist would be in on Monday to do the cleaning. What? Why did they give me an appointment for today, Friday, for a cleaning? I had scheduled the appointment specifically for the cleaning, yet their plan was to sell me procedures. Bait and Switch. The dentist could see that I was not okay with this and he did the cleaning himself. It was uncomfortable because he was clearing angry at me for daring to confront him for trying to charge me after they had told me no charge and he is using sharp tools in my mouth. I was there from 10am to 11:30 and the cleaning itself, what I had made the appointment for, took about 10 minutes. The rest was filling out about 8 pages of forms protecting his office from liability and the sales presentation about how many procedures he could discover. This office is not a good fit for me and I am certain that Dr. Bijal Mehta will agree that it is best that I find another office to continue my dental care. read more
