We dined in at Mei Restaurant tonight and had a great time. I was excited to come here since the restaurant is a fusion of French, Nordic and Japanese cuisine. The restaurant is easy to miss and kind of non-descript from the outside, but it's street facing near the Publix and by the Camden Apartments. There is paid street parking along the entire street and it's not expensive (I paid about 4.00$ for 2 hours or so). The inside is elegantly designed with lots of natural colors, fabrics and textures like most of the restaurants that are in the Bento Restaurant group. The staff as usually was giving 5/5 with great customer service. They were friendly and helpful and in a great mood which I always love. The menu is small yet, but they are just opening, so things are still coming together. I have Celiac Disease and they were so helpful advising me what can be made gluten-free. Unfortunately, there oysters ran out tonight, so I will be coming back to try them! We got to try some other items such as the beef tartare (not gluten-free) and the grilled vegetables with salmon roe and creme fraiche (gluten-free). If I had to recommend a dish I would definitely advise the duck as a fantastic entree. The duck was one of the best that we have had anywhere and we love duck and have had a lot of it. It was so tender and full of flavor and the side of swiss chard that came with it was absolutely delicious. We also had the lamb chops as well and finished with the mango sorbet (I also highly recommend this). The sorbet was thick and full of ripe mango, it was not like how most sorbets have a lot of ice in them, this one was basically like eating a delicious pureed mango. If you love mango you will love this. The sake was also fairly priced and eveeyone was extremely helpful with helping me find one that I would enjoy with dinner. From what I see the restaurant has beer, wine and sake. Overall, we loved dinner and would highly recommend Mei Restaurant for date night. If you dine in St.Pete and you liked Lingr then this place will probably pique your interest!

We were fortunate enough to be invited to the soft opening of Mei. Given the tenderness of the staff and the quality of the food this is sure to be another landmark restaurant within the greater Tampa area. The milk bread was absolutely delicious and perfectly we enjoyed the lamb chops and the duck which were cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed the fish and the dessert which were phenomenal. This is definitely going to be a go to restaurant in the St. Petersburg area. Cheers to Chef Alex and thank you very much for allowing us to be a part of the grand opening festivities.

There's interior and exterior seating. You can make a reservation as they do tend to get busy around dinner time, but they do accept walk ins as well. Parking can be limited during busy times, but you can also park right behind the school and it is a short walk to the restaurant. The servers are friendly and accommodating.

Unfortunately, the portion sizes were surprisingly small for the price, especially the chicken dish. We arrived at 5:45 p.m. for our 6:00 p.m. reservation and were seated promptly, which was appreciated. However, we waited about 45 minutes for our meals to arrive. While our waitress wasn't particularly attentive, she did apologize for the delay in getting our food. The restaurant itself is cute, specially outside seating. One suggestion is that the tables are larger for two people. The table next to us requested another table to be moved over to hold their food and drinks properly. The pita bread didn't arrive until later in the meal, and while it was a nice addition, it didn't make up for the small serving sizes and lack of anything to dip it into at that point. I truly wanted to love this restaurant and leave a glowing review because the food itself was very good. Sadly, between the long wait, service issues, and portion sizes that didn't match the prices, the overall experience fell short of our expectations.

Future Christina, you should always get the seafood plateau, it is delicious and also you leave feeling not weighed down. We also split a small Caesar salad, which no longer comes with blue cheese, which is great, and that was enough food for both me and my husband. This time the seafood plateau came with muscles, oysters, fish spread, shrimp cocktail, and crab legs. It also has a ton of toasted bread for the fish spread. I ate the oysters and mussels, and my husband ate most of the shrimp and the crab legs. I love the fish spread so I'm glad it comes with that as well. The one con was it took an hour before we even ordered our food. That was crazy to me. Luckily we had accounted for a lot of time before our show at the Mahaffey, but if we didn't, that would've been exceptionally stressful. I do have to shout out that they're fresh pressed orange juice is absolutely delicious and well worth the eight dollar charge for a small glass (carafe is $14 so get the carafe instead). The grapefruit juice isn't cold pressed in house, but is cold pressed. It is less expensive at around five dollars, I don't think it is as good as the orange juice, but if you like grapefruit juice, it is pretty good. My husband got an old-fashioned and liked it. Overall, I still really enjoy this place, but if you're in a rush, you should probably tell your server so that way you get in and out quicker.

The place filled up quickly and service, despite our being one of two tables for half an hour, was spotty, although our server was polite and professional. Coffee and water weren't refilled...that type of thing. I wouldn't return for brunch. Not a huge selection for breakfast items, and the food was just adequate. All of our meals were cold. Eggs. Potatoes. Cold. This was our first time here, and I probably won't go back. Valet parking, but on busy days be prepared to wait as they service several restaurants. Otherwise, parking is on the street.

The environment was so cozy and magical. It was a wonderful feel and the food transported you to France. My spouse loved sitting in France outside and dining and the establishment reminded him of that. He lived there for several years. Then they moved to Indian Rocks Beach and since that move we had not been in. But a few months ago we found out where they moved to. Last night my son wanted to take us out to eat for Mother's Day since he has to work today. We happily drove 1 hour and 20 minutes to get there. The environment has lost its appeal and its mundane. Which is not the end because we came also for the food. My son ordered lamb chops which were one bite pieces of lamb on a the bone and there were 3. The gravey lacked any reduction and or flavour. It was pretty much tasteless. My spouse ate one of the chops to try it and agreed. I tasted the sauce off his plate. The cook on the lamb was good. My son was very disappointed as he loves lamb. When he said something to the women who owns it she brushed him off as it was no big deal and claimed no one has ever complained about the lamb before. Which is a blanted lie just look at the reviews. I personally find that hard to believe. I ordered Bouillabaisse, which is a personal favourite of mine. Due to her attitude towards my son I said nothing. I ate a few bites and took the rest home and threw it out. The scallops and shrimp are chewy. The monkfish was overcooked and the salmon was extremely fishy tasting. The only dinner item that was good was the Steak Diana that my husband ordered. After we ordered crème brulle missing its an upcharge for the flame it was served cold. The sugar crust was burnt and so thick it stuck to our teeth. We left part of it and all shared it instead of each of us ordering desserts. My son who paid thought maybe she didn't understand and thought he would say something before leaving because the meal at $190 with 1 beer in the mix was a bit high for food that was NOT good. She was cold and so what about it. So he left rather upset. Which upsets me. I find it hard to believe that being French or not one would care so little about their guests feeling were towards their food. For this reason we will not return. There are other French establishments that we can dine at and the fact that there is nothing I can't cook for myself. But sometimes I just like it made for me. It was for Mother's Day after all.
