Wagyu gyoza was good but after two it felt a bit salty (possibly cause I'm used to cooking low sodium for myself). I would give the scene/vibe at Fortu an A while assigning a B to the food. I love the dark interior and mood lighting of the dining room, it definitely sets the stage for the evening. Service was fine but at the price point of the dishes, I would expect more refinement. A wide cocktail and wine list helps round out the menu. Speaking of the menu, there is something for everyone-raw/chilled, nigiri, land, sea, and rice and vegetables. As with the interior, the menu embraces and leans Japanese. We tried the bluefin tartare, wagyu gyoza, black cod and the fried rice. While everything was good, nothing really stood out. The gyoza was my favorite but definitely rich. I would have liked to have more brightness and lightness shine through with the tartare. A little surprised it's Michelin recommended (whatever that means) as I feel we had better meals while staying in St. Pete's. read more

Awesome experience coming here! Fortu is a really excellent Asian fusion restaurant. I got the 4 course menu and I was blown away by both the quality and quantity. The portion sizes are quite large and generous. Service was efficient and the servers were very friendly. Loved the ambiance of the restaurant. It was an excellent mix of modern and classical, giving a really upscale feeling. My favorite dish might have been the Egg Sando Beef Tartare. The egg salad gives it the perfect amount of richness to balance against the savory beef bites. The grilled bread is the perfect vehicle for eating the beef. The only slight downside of this restaurant is the space is not very large. So when it gets busy and crowded, some parts of the restaurant can feel a little tight and claustrophobic. Manager needs training. I attached photos so you judge for yourself. When I made a reservation I got a text from their "concierge asking me if it was a special occasion, and any requests we may have. I told them we liked Mexican Cokes as they are made with Cane sugar and blueberry margaritas they answered they updated our information to let the team know about our preferences. I thought that was a nice touch, until I got to the restaurant. They sat us and neither of those things were at our table. I asked the waitress and she had no idea what I was talking about and said they didn't have either. I asked for manager and texted 'concierge' who apologized and said they should have been front and center at our table tonight. When the manager came, instead of apologizing, she said they never said they would have those items. They said they would let them know about our preferences and proceeded to pull out her phone and show me her concierge was AI and she knows that's what it said. Seriously? I pointed to it saying it should have been front and center on our table and she kept arguing that it noted our preferences and never said they would get it done pointing at her phone at the conversation. No need to point. I have the same one on my phone. She seemed annoyed and said she would try to make it up to us but walked away without an apology or a smile, as if we were the most demanding, unrealistic, and unreasonable people in the world. THEN WHAT'S THE POINT OF ASKING AND ACKNOWLEDGING MY REQUEST IF YOU NEVER INTENDED ON FILLING IT? BAIT AND SWITCH MUCH? Also, here's a tip. As a manager, don't argue with your customers and try to prove them wrong. It's a bad look. This is an issue and out of 100 people who have issues with it you'll only hear from less than 10, but each person will yell at least ten others and this is how you go out of business and lose customers. Now about the food and will rate it against other $100+ per person restaurant. The milles feuilles potatoes were good though a bit overcooked and bland but the truffle crème fraiche was amazing and dish worth ordering just for that. Lobster roll didn't not have a lot of lobster and was seasoned well but left you wanting more lobster, especially in St. Pete where dozens of restaurants offer lobster rolls filled to the brim. Miso cod was cooked to perfection, let's get that straight, but fish and miso was under seasoned and bland. The duck was the best dish of the night. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. Highly recommended. They also brought us a sweet potato to make up for "AI confusion" and I usually do not like sweet potatoes but loved this one. The miso French onion fondue on top was absolutely amazing. Though I did find a charge for it on my bill and they apologized and went and removed it. Oh wow. Finally had panna cotta for dessert, something I usually don't like either but loved this. Really flavorful. Their birthday chocolate caramel ice cream was also very good. So overall the food was good except for a few misses. The place is loud so not romantic and as mentioned before, their AI concierge is a joke and the way manager handled it trying to defend their actions, pointing at their phone, and walked away seeming angry, never smiling, is not how you treat customers. There are hundreds of amazing restaurants literally within walking distance and details matter. Odds that I'll be back are slim to none because of the way we were treated and food was not good enough to put up with that. read more

I left off two stars for service and price. For how expensive the food was, our waitress was very quiet and distant rather than helping us explore the menu making it more of an experience. We were also there with a group of six for a bachelorette party which deserved a little more attention than your average party in my opinion. The prefix is worth it if you want to gamble on liking each of your courses. Instead, try these items separately: MUST TRY: - Fried rice with wagyu (best fried rice we had ever had!! We had such mixed experiences at FORTU that I wanted to come back to try the more reasonably-priced brunch entrees. Great call on my part! My first visit was back in December for lunch. We started with cocktails, which is where we believe Fortu stands out. Ube cocktail was *to die for* creamy and balanced; the lychee mimosa was so refreshing and wonderful as well. We had a few rounds of both. For food, we ordered every single item on the appetizers menu - forgoing the brunch entrees altogether. Some standouts were the crunchy parmesan cheese & truffle potatoes fried in beef tallow, bursting in flavor; the juicy wagyu gyozas and delicately complementary sauce; and the mind-blowing UBE cheesecake (the STAR of the show! WOW!). Other items on the menu, however, left something to be desired: -The wonton tacos had delicious ingredients, but were way too rich when eaten given that the wonton taco shells were so drenched in oil and not properly pat-dry/drained. -The hamachi crudo had delicate fresh fish, but something was missing in the execution of the sauce/balancing of the flavors. -The seafood dumplings, while also fresh and beautifully cooked, were too subdued/underwhelming in flavor. -Can't even remember the entree we tried: it was that forgettable, sp given the price. Service was so also mixed - but they looked slammed. And so when the check came in, we felt the total price didn't reflect the overall experience we came to expect. I had taken a peek at their brunch entrees menu section though, so decided I wanted to try Fortu one more time with different friends for a proper brunch (my other girlfriend didn't want to come back). And so I went back this month on a Sunday for brunch with my husband and another friend. I made it a point to reorder their standout app (the wagyu gyozas), a new cocktail, and to focus on ordering from the brunch menu entrees. This was a great decision! We all loved our wagyu and oxtail burgers, even in all our different variations. I asked it cooked per the chef and got it medium rare - so good, so juicy, so perfectly seasoned. Oxtail was a phenomenal addition to the patty mix. The smashed potatoes side, however, I found to be downright burnt, which is a shame (as there were some perfectly crunchy bits that were not burnt and tasted great). The cocktail we ordered, Japanese Coffee, was served hot and tasted just like any other Irish Coffee I've had. It was too strong for our taste, and we unfortunately couldn't tell the high-quality whiskey used. I regret not reordering an ube cocktail instead Service significantly improved as well. While it helped that it wasn't as packed, we noticed the team was way more cohesive and other staff members ensured our waters were topped off at all times while our main server was working other tables. Our server, from Montenegro, was so sweet and I loved chit chatting a bit about her country (which I have visited twice) while my husband and friend were midst ordering. All in all, I had a much better experience this time at Fortu - and the ambiance felt more welcoming as well. 3.5-4 out of 5 overall given our first full experience with the majority of their menu. While we don't think we would come back for dinner, we would definitely reorder from their brunch entrees menu and a few of their signature apps and cocktails. read more

One of us ordered the prefix and the other ordered a few items from the other menu we started with steak, tartar, lobster, dumplings, a tuna, appetizer, tuna tacos( they didn't have a lot of taste) , pork belly, Japanese, sweet potato, and a miso codfish, which was wonderful! we also tried a flight of saki, which was really fun!!! they only have valet parking on Friday and Saturday so the other days you have to find street parking or garage parking which is not the best.. but that's typical for Downtown. This was hands down the best dining experience I've ever had. From the moment we walked into Fortu in St. Petersburg, everything was on another level--the vibe, the setting, the presentation, and the attention to detail were all top notch. This isn't just dinner, it's a full experience. We went with the four-course prix fixe with wine pairing, and every course delivered. The tuna, shrimp, and lobster gyoza was an incredible start--perfectly balanced and full of flavor. The Wagyu ribeye (medium) was cooked to absolute perfection--easily one of the best steaks I've ever had. I finished with the salted caramel dessert, which was the perfect ending. Service matched the food across the board. Kevin, our server, was OUTSTANDING--attentive, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience seamless. Chris at the bar closed out the night with an excellent Japanese whisky Toki Old Fashioned. I've been eyeing Fortu for a while, so I was excited when I got surprised with dinner there the day before Valentine's Day. We were hoping for the full menu, but they were offering a smaller pre-Valentine's menu that night. Even so, we were still excited to finally experience it. The ambiance was perfect for date night! Low lighting, intimate, and a really beautiful atmosphere. For drinks, I ordered the Geisha Martini, their version of a pornstar martini, and it was chef's kiss. Smooth, balanced, and the perfect way to start the evening. For starters, we ordered two rounds of the Wagyu gyozas and the braised oxtail Wagyu wonton tacos. Both were great, but the clear favorite was the braised oxtail! Which was extremely flavorful, rich, and cooked perfectly. Our absolute favorite of the night was the Miso Black Cod. Hands down one of the best entrées we've had in a while. I honestly didn't think it could rival the famous one at Nobu, but this one was incredible. It was rich, buttery, and paired perfectly with the bok choy. To top it off, we ordered the Wagyu fried rice. I would've preferred the steak cooked slightly less, but it was still very flavorful and a great addition to the meal. I'm going to be thinking about these flavors for a while. I absolutely loved this restaurant! It's an upscale pan-asian experience with mid-range prices, and food with American and French influences. The service was fabulous and attentive. The restaurant has a beautiful interior space (and bar) and peaceful but central exterior space, great if you're in the mood to people watch. As for the food? 9/10! Absolutely sparkling. I adored the wagyu brunch burger, it came with cheddar, oxtail, scallion kewpie mayo and a runny egg -- absolutely bursting with savory flavors. They have inside and outside seating, we chose inside. It is absolutely beautiful. Great lighting with floating lanterns hanging on the ceiling! We started off with a cocktail. I got the Sakura Blossom and my husband got the Kinoko. We ordered a bunch of items and shared. We ordered the Wonton Tacos (2 Wagyu and 2 Tuna), Sakura Pork Belly, Shrimp & Lobster Dumplings, Miso Black Cod, and Wagyu Fried Rice. Everything was delicious! We were worried at first that this amount of food was too much for two people, but we ate it all. My favorite was the Shrimp & Lobster Dumplings! 10/10 must try! We wished we tried the Wagyu Goyza. It was my birthday and at the end Fortu surprised me with a cute little ice cream cake and candle. Not only was it gorgeous, but tasted amazing! Our server was super attentive and even folded my husband's napkin when he got up to use the restroom! When I looked around, I can see all the servers were equally exceptional, politely walking around and really paying attention to their customers. Very professional. Highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time -- We snagged the first 11am spot and within minutes the entire outdoor patio was packed. The service was wonderful and very attentive and patient given we had our two month old newborn with us. We were explained the menu along with fan favorites which I'm always appreciative of as a first time visitor. Breakfast cocktails to start our morning because why not?! Lychee mimosa was very refreshing. And the Bloody Mary had the right amount of spice to flavor. We shared the wagyu wonton tacos to start and man oh man, I could've devoured that myself granted there are four tacos per order. From there we tried the 24 hour fermented pancake, chicken sando and the Wagyu burger. The only downside was the fried egg on top of the burger I requested be removed but wasn't. I'd come back for the burger (minus the egg) and tacos everyday of the week it was that good. And pretty affordable for the three of us. The hostesses were not welcoming, and the service from our waitress was mediocre. The food was the most disappointing part of the experience. The quality and flavors of our dishes were far below what one would expect from a Michelin level restaurant. Everything felt quite basic, and the dessert was the worst of all, it was inedible due to its cloying sweetness. There's a valet parking service at the restaurant's entrance. To get a discount on the valet fee, you need to get your ticket stamped in the restaurant. With the stamp, the fee is $10.00, while without it, it's $20.00. We chose Fortu this past Friday night to celebrate my mom's 65th birthday after discovering the restaurant through the Chase Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables program. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a special dinner became one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had in quite some time. We had an 8:00 PM reservation, arrived at 8:02, and were not seated until around 8:15. That alone would not have been a major issue, but it unfortunately set the tone for the rest of the evening. Once seated, we ordered all of our food at once because everyone was hungry, and we specifically explained that we would be sharing everything family-style. Despite that, we waited approximately 40 minutes for our first dish--which was a raw dish--and nearly 50 minutes for the second. We did not receive all of the food we ordered until approximately 9:20 PM, more than an hour after being seated. What made the delay especially frustrating was watching tables immediately next to us, including one seated after us, receive their food considerably earlier. Those tables had a different server, who was also noticeably more attentive and personable with her guests. Each time I asked our server, Teal, for an update on our food, she would return shortly afterward with a single dish, but her demeanor increasingly made us feel as though asking about food we had been waiting nearly an hour for was somehow an inconvenience. At a restaurant of this caliber, delays can happen, but communication and hospitality should make up for them. Neither did here. We have dined at many Michelin-starred, Bib Gourmand, and Michelin Recommended restaurants, and the issue was not simply that the kitchen was running behind. It was the complete lack of communication and the increasingly dismissive service that accompanied it. The most disappointing part involved my mom's birthday. Teal knew from the beginning that we were celebrating her 65th birthday and even told her, "Don't worry, we'll do something special for your birthday." Nothing was ever done. Toward the end of the meal, Teal asked whether we wanted dessert. I said I wasn't sure and turned to ask my family if anyone wanted something. Before we had even made a decision, she responded that there were "plenty of dessert spots nearby on the strip" that we could go to. We were genuinely stunned. For a restaurant with Fortu's reputation, telling a table celebrating a milestone birthday to essentially go somewhere else for dessert while they are still considering ordering dessert from your restaurant is remarkably inhospitable. We had even mentioned that we came from Orlando specifically for the evening. She then returned with the check, loudly dropped the checkbook onto our table, immediately turned around, and walked away. No "thank you," no acknowledgment of my mom's birthday, and not even the bare-minimum "have a good evening." Meanwhile, looking around our section, the contrast was obvious. The server handling the neighboring tables was engaging, attentive, and taking the time to make her guests feel welcome. Unfortunately, that was not the experience we received. There are far too many excellent restaurants for people to choose from when deciding where to celebrate milestone occasions. We chose Fortu for my mom's 65th birthday because of its reputation and its inclusion in Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables, and it was a complete flop. Ironically, we ended the night at the nearby pizza place we had asked Teal about earlier, and the hospitality there was better than anything we experienced during our dinner at Fortu. The food itself may have merit, but hospitality is part of dining, especially at this level. When I say small, there is a waiting/seating area, but you're also in the way of the kitchen/servers to deliver food and the bathrooms. So that was a bit awkward. Food, quality, ambiance, this place is everything! I'm not huge on fusion cuisine but this... this was SO GOOD. Started with the shrimp/lobster dumplings (amazing btw) so much flavor and so much filling in the dumplings. We also got the Toro to start which just melted in the mouth! The Wagyu ribeye is one of the best steaks I have ever eaten paired with the shiso chimichurri, honestly just WOWWWWWWWW. The fried rice was also an amazing dish paired with the steak! The miso black cod is SOOO tender soft juicy flavorful seriously have to try....... Last comment: the drinks are wow. U just have to try for yourself.. read more

Very nice place! Our waitress was fantastic and the food was very good. I will say the portions are on the smaller side so don't go there overly hungry! We tried a bunch of things but the stand outs were the Gyoza, Scallops and Ube Cheesecake. The restaurant is well designed and has a nice atmosphere too! read more

This is an excellent Asian fusion restaurant that I happened to stumble upon thanks to its upscale waterfront ambiance. I dined here with my cousin, he ordered à la carte while I went with the prix fixe menu, and both were outstanding in presentation and flavor. I'm usually more of a sushi person than a traditional Chinese food fan, but this experience completely changed that. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and well balanced. The service was warm and attentive without feeling overbearing, which really elevated the experience. The atmosphere is definitely upscale, but not suit-and-tie formal. Think luxury business casual, polished, comfortable, and perfect for a date night or special occasion by the water. A+++ read more

The service, atmosphere, and cocktails were phenomenal. But the food was far from extraordinary. Maybe my expectations were too high because of the hype around the place, but even trying to push that aside it really was "just ok" and I wouldn't call anything truly delicious. The alleged milk bread just tasted like normal bread. The lobster + shrimp dumplings and fried rice were almost bland, and I would have preferred them to be more flavorful and simply just taste better. The Caesar salad was normal and fresh, but the tomatoes felt out of place in it. The flavor of the ube cheesecake was nice, but I wished it was colder. There was nothing elevated about any of the dishes I tried and, much to my disappointment, I've had better versions of every dish at so many other places. On a side note, I also just cannot understand why the baked sweet potato was $15 when, again, there is nothing elevated about it in it's preparation or ingredients. read more

We truly enjoyed our experience at Fortu. The food is delicious, the service was great and the ambiance is wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant and we plan to come back again soon! We got the Miso Cod, Pekin Duck, Fried Rice, the Pork belly appetizer was incredibly melt-in-your mouth morsels. And the Lychee Panna Cotta dessert was the perfect ending to our meal. And of course, order one (or two) of the Blossom drinks. read more
