This place had me hooked before I even sat down. The anticipation of walking down the stairway entrance immediately sets the tone--it's such a unique concept for Florida and gives the space this hidden, exclusive lounge feel. The atmosphere is intimate, stylish, and visually impressive without trying too hard. I could easily see this being a great spot for a real date night, but it also has the right energy for catching up with a friend over a few great cocktails. Our bartender, J, was incredibly informative and made our drinks to perfection. We tried the Hot Night in Bangkok and Other Neon Garden, and both felt thoughtfully crafted and absolutely worth the price. I didn't get a chance to try the food this visit, which might be my biggest reason for wanting to come back. The drinks, service, atmosphere, and overall experience already set the bar high, and I have a feeling this place isn't done showing me what it has to offer. From the moment you step in this restaurant is a vibe. The attention to details in the decor, the mood lighting, the karaoke setup, the fineries, music, it's stellar. The service was stellar with the staff being exceptionally attentive, regularly inquiring about our needs and providing us with fun facts I wanted to know about the space, during our time with them for a bit at the bar. The food was incredible. A scratch kitchen, everything was delectable and reasonably priced. We went during happy hour by chance and got one of the plates we planned to get anyway for 10 dollars which was a steal. All of the food was fantastic. The taco and nachos shells were crisp with a light, non-greasy texture. The salmon was seasoned well but not overly so where you couldn't taste it's freshness. The textures were perfect and temperature of a everything came out correctly. My favorite item was the spicy tuna rolls that were perfectly wrapped, loaded with fish and had the most perfect texture and flavor of any roll I've ever had! 11/10 As someone very skeptical of consuming raw fish in places they're not native I say confidently the care taken here to acquire their fish is evident. Last but not least .. the milkbread. When I learned this was a scratch kitchen I knew I had to try it so this was a last minute add. Boy was I do happy I did. I was full so I took half of it that was left back to my hotel and ate it for breakfast the next & it was still perfection. The butter was a perfect balance to the sweet. Well this used to be our favorite place, great food, good vibes... Beautiful downtown setting... Unfortunately the past two visits have been bad. The service wasn't good, didn't bring out our sauces, no refills for our drinks. The appetizer was bad and the entrees were as well. It felt like it was missing flavor, especially considering the price you pay. ​Additionally, my friend ordered a Thai tea that came with a dead fly in it. The staff took it back to the kitchen but never brought out a replacement until the checks were already being handed out. By that time, the wait just wasn't worth it. We went to Good Fortune for dinner. It had good reviews and the food looked great from the pictures. We walked in as a group of four with our toddler. They asked if we had a reservation, and we didn't. Surprisingly, even though the restaurant was mostly empty, they told us it was full. We were seated outside, right next to the kitchen exhaust, and it was disgusting. The server came over and we decided to order: Boba Thai Tea, Salmon Nachos, Crispy Brussel Sprouts, Drunken Noodles, Ube Cake, Big Buddha Sushi Roll, and Japanese Milk Bread. The service was surprisingly fast, and we got our order, Crispy Brussels Sprouts and Japanese Milk Bread in just a minute. However, the Brussels Sprouts weren't hot or crispy, and the Japanese Milk Bread was disappointing. We also got Salmon Nachos, Big Buddha Sushi Roll, Drunken Noodles and Ube Cake also quickly. The Salmon Nachos were pretty disappointing - they were basically just salmon on nachos. We also had to send back the Drunken Noodles because they weren't cooked the way we like them. But honestly, the Big Buddha Sushi Roll was definitely the best thing we ate. The rolls were made really well and had a nice crispy texture. I've been wanting to go here for a minute. Last time I tried, the wait was an hour long, so I would highly recommend putting in a reservation beforehand. I ended up getting the Rising Sun signature roll, which contained shrimp tempura, asparagus, avocado, torched salmon, jalapeño, spicy mayo, eel sauce, scallions, and seasame seeds. I liked how crunchy the the shrimp and asparagus were; it paired well with the softness of the rice and avocado. The torched salmon also provided a little bit of smokiness. I just wish there were more pieces to the roll for the price. I also got the Harukuju Moment cocktail and the Amabuki Rose sake. The cocktail was pretty strong, but not too sweet. The sake was not on the dry side and lightly sweet. I got more of the apple taste in the sake in my opinion. I liked the vibes of the interior and the music was good! It was quite a full house (as expected for a Friday), but we were able to find two chairs at the bar in the corner and it was actually the perfect spot! We were able to feel like we had space for ourselves, but also enjoy people-watching and the atmosphere and decor of the place. Both bartenders were great and super friendly. So we were eating in shifts so our meals didn't get cold while we waited for the others to get their meals. This place is really neat! Reminded me of a New York- like dive bar where you walk in to an underground location. On the weekend it is loud with a DJ and darkly lit. I'm not sure if it's like that on other nights. Very club-like and night out vibes. I thought it was neat. I forgot the name of the cocktail I got, but it was very good. I came here for a work event (small group of people). I was blown away by the decor and vibes! This place has been decorated with so much purpose, it shines though as soon as you walk in. We had 4 sushi rolls (they were okay, nothing special for the price); milk bread (dense and dry even though slathered in butter. We left 2 of 3 rolls behind); 2 bowls of edamame (actually okay); 4 short rib bao buns (dry dry dry and not enough filling to bun ratio); and a Thai tea which I think was actually a brown sugar milk tea (tasted nothing like Thai teas I've had in the past). The service was slow but our waitress was lovely. Not one person was excited about anything we tried though and that was sort of sad after reading the reviews. Maybe it was an off night, but it really feels like you're purely paying for instagramability of the location and food is an afterthought. read more

We've now given Good Fortune two chances and both were disappointments. Our first visit was on New Year's and while you might expect delays on a holiday, it wasn't even that crowded. Despite that, the service was horrendous... slow, inattentive, and disorganized. It felt like we were an inconvenience rather than guests. Tonight we came back for a friend's birthday, hoping it was a fluke. It wasn't. We ordered the shot tree to make the birthday guy feel special, only to have them bring out a random platter of shots instead and casually say they were "out of shot trees." Not sure how that's even possible when it's literally part of the experience and menu. No heads up, no explanation, no effort to make it feel celebratory. That said -- the food is actually good. But good food can't make up for consistently poor service and lack of basic hospitality. There are too many great spots in St. Pete to settle for this experience. read more

I had been wanting to try Good Fortune for a while, of course, since the first time I saw pictures of it on Instagram and it looked so cool. Walking up to the restaurant even Ben was look "oh this is cool looking", and stopped to take pictures. Right away you see the bar that you seen on Instagram and it was actually smaller than expected but looked just as great as expected. We were sat right away to the left side of the restaurant so we had the cool "comic wall" where the wall paper kinda looked like a comic strip of sorts and the sushi bar opposite. The sushi bar has cool neon light designs and sayings that make it a fun spot and conversation piece. While I was walking in I was looking at plates on different tables as well as when we were reviewing the menu and everything I saw looked really good and good proportions as well. The rolls that I saw were very large in size which I must have ordered the one roll that was normal sized. I ordered the Good Fortune roll but who knows, maybe next time I'll get one that was in line with what I saw on other tables. It was very tasty, with a slight kick to it but not too much that I couldn't handle. I don't like too much spice, personally. Ben ordered the Drunken Noodles and the bowl was large and full to the top. As soon as Ben put his fork into the bowl you could see a lot of steam being released so it was super fresh off the wok and Ben found instantly a large shrimp that they used throughout. I would say they were using 16/20 shrimp and it wasn't just like 3 within the dish, there were several, which was nice to see. This had some heat onto it which built over time but it wasn't so bad that I couldn't try it so I was able to get the flavor from a bite of pasta and shrimp to know his was tasty as well. We both enjoyed our dishes and for the price/amount of food, we will try this again and other menu items. They do have a late night menu available that even for a Thursday night had people coming in to enjoy. read more

This is our go-to spot for a celebratory dinner, and it never disappoints! First off is the vibe -- the lighting and neon signs paired with the music makes this such a fun atmosphere! Plus the anime wall including Dragon Ball Z manga strips scores extra points. They have a DJ on some nights and music is definitely loud, which we like but our relatives weren't a big fan of when we brought them. The drinks are awesome, especially the Flaming Swords cocktail which they present table-side in a smoke box (see video). Food is served tapas style and most everything is awesome. Absolutely love the pork belly bao buns, sticky ribs, and gyoza from the small plates section. One of the only things we don't love there are the rangoons. We walked in at around 5pm Saturday and were seated right away without a reservation, and there were plenty of tables open. Despite not being too busy, the wait times were pretty long and we waited about 25 minutes just to receive the drinks we ordered first. I then ordered crispy tuna without any spicy aoli and the waiter told me he couldnt serve it without it (Not sure why since it's added at the end in top, but no worries, I wiped it off and it still tasted great). Then my entree (sushi) came about 10 minutes before the other entree (bit awkward timing) but the wait staff was friendly and helpful overall. Despite the long wait times, the food was amazing and I had no complaints. I am picky about cocktails- I don't like them too sweet or too bitter and the Gin & Tonic was perfect. Only negative was the speed of service. They do make everything in house so yes it does take longer for food, but even drinks and wait staff were just..not speedy. Would 100% come back again, but just be prepared to spend time in the restaurant vs a quick dine in and out. Also the DJ for Saturday night was fire and definitely helped the time go by enjoyably! For the lack of people there, I'm surprised our food took forever. Mind you we were a part of 10 but we were civil and just enjoying the Dj dancing in our chairs. If that DJ wasn't there we would be been very angry and left sooner. Drinks were good especially the Pretty Kitty especially since it came in the cute pink cat cup! Sushi and food was good but it took forever to come out and it felt like they only want to cook some people's food. Appetizers were coming out hours later than entrees. Some people ordered the same thing but only one order came out. We never received 4 people's entrees. So that's wasn't cool. The waiter was nice but we have no clue what was going on in the kitchen. When we brought up the food was missing they go check and never came back. We waited until 11:30pm. So we asked for the check and remove the items we didn't get and left. We got drinks and edamame to enjoy before we went for the karaoke (no food was allowed in the room). It was a private room so you didn't have to worry about others taking in your singing abilities. Our extended family group had fun for the hour we had the room reserved. The music selection had tunes for all genres. We had a reservation but waited additional time because it wasn't ready yet, bold for an establishment that wants you to put your card down in case you're late / no show. We finally sit and multiple menu items were not available, not the end of the world but a bit annoying. The drinks were ok but nothing magical, the ambience is probably one of the main reasons people come here. The food was lackluster but it's Asian fusion, not sure what it's fused with but that's probably where things went wrong. Our waitress was all over the place and wouldn't come back for extended periods of time and we even waited another 15 min to get our checks.
