When I asked the server if they had sold to new owners because this was not the menu that I saw on yelp. He said that they offer a limited menu to make it easier to the kitchen. We ordered lamb kabobs, chicken kabobs as well. The server comes back and tells us that they ran out of lamb. The restaurant had just opened. That was odd. Then as the restaurant started to get busy we noticed that there was lamb on the dishes. Food was good, but it seemed like a bait and switch on the menu. We came here for dinner on a Thursday in June because they were running a special discount where kids eat for free. Surprisingly the place was pretty empty. The inside is really cute with pretty tables and a charming atmosphere. The service was excellent and the server gave us complimentary hummus with warm pita. It was delicious! Our daughter really enjoyed their chicken nuggets. We ordered the sampler platter and enjoyed all the different Mediterranean foods. We also each had a cocktail and those were delicious as well. Fallen Gyro! This used to be the place that had my favorite gyro in Orlando with thick cut meat right off the spindle of rotating gyro meat. Now, they take the pre-sliced meat from a steam table and heat it up on the griddle for a bit, so it's not quite the same, but still not bad. I'm not sure if they cut it from the spindle or just order pre-packaged meat now. It used to be counter service but now it seems to be sit down with someone coming to take your order and bring you the food. That's fine, but if you're going to do that, at least check on the patrons (or in my case, patron) now and again to see if they need a water refill or something. They had a pretty decent lunch deal offered (I think 7.99) for a gyro and fries, but the fries are actually worse than Burger King fries (if you can believe it). The pita bread wasn't fresh I probably won't return unless someone else takes over, but in comparison to what it was when it opened and they put care into making your food until now, it's a world of difference. It's a shame, but with 2 Mediterranean places within a few blocks of each other, I'll go to the other one. read more

What a great restaurant in Avalon! Starting with the service: it was great! We wanted to sit outside bc the weather was cooler, but once we sat down realized it was a bit too windy and went back inside. Server accommodated with no issue. Was quick to bring drinks and answered all our questions. We tried multiple items and we were not disappointed. The servings are very large. We did the app basket with baba ganoush, hummus, stuffed grape leaves, and falafel. All delicious! Hubby ordered the mixed shawarma platter (wow so much food!) and I did the gyro mini platter. Service is slow. We ordered food and the server did not bring what we ordered. Had to correct our hummus. Ordered tres leche and never got it. Presentation is not good at all. I also ordered the spicy potato salad...its pretty much roasted potatoes with spicy sauce but i liked it. I took my mother and sister to visit my uncle in Orlando last week, and while in town, I spent some time with one of my cousins at his house. At lunch time, we talked about options in his neighborhood. The Yelp app pointed me to Mejana and a Philly Cheese steak place next door, both were independently-owned small businesses. My cousin's son ordered from the Philly cheese steak place, and my cousin, my sister, and I ordered from Mejana because frankly, the food photos looked to good to pass up, and it was the right call. The business was owned and operated by a very friendly and accommodating man and woman. My cousin ordered the gyro, and he really enjoyed it. My sister really liked the seasoning and overall flavor of her grilled chicken kebob sandwich and fries, and I LOVED my beef shawarma platter. We sat on their spacious patio. My platter came with a choice of three sides. I chose yellow rice, hummus, and Lebanese salad. The Lebanese salad blew my mind! It was so fresh and the dressing or vinaigrette they used was incredibly flavorful. I neglected to ask what the deep fried crisp was that the salad was topped with, but it was a nice touch. The hummus was perfect, and the beef shawarma was tender and delicious. I thought my plate was beautifully presented, and I loved every bite. The platter also came with gently grilled pita, which was great for scooping up the hummus and eating with the shawarma. I've recently had a conversation regarding quantity over quality versus quality over quantity. Both sides exist, there is no point in arguing which is best, but there is a point to knowing what is going on and how to spend your time and energy choosing which style you prefer. I think that for Floridians, generally not in the manufacturing industry or subject to long winters, a quality over quantity diet is totally acceptable, even desirable. Case in point: Mejana. I stopped by Mejana and curb side picked up a falafel and gyro meat (lamb) sandwiches, as well as a spinach pie. The sandwiches come with large steak fries, just the fries are winners. The sandwiches are really good also, the falafel sandwich was on the smaller side but the flavors were exquisite, I was very surprised by how able Mejana is when it comes to balancing the spices used in the falafel. I highly recommend this dish. The other dish, the gyro meat sandwich, was gigantic, with lots of meat, great flavors and freshness. A very good sandwich as well. Now, these sandwiches are a couple dollars more than the average sandwich and do not include a drink, but the flavors are amazing. If you want to eat good, and are not motivated to bloat like a toad, then give them a try. Finally, the spinach pie was really good. The dough was fresh and the spinach filling was tangy and perfect, just like a traditional spinach pie should be. A great meal from a small business in Avalon. read more

We ate here during Avalon Park's big Christmas event, but the restaurant itself was pretty slow. Unfortunately, we had some issues. First, we waited a very long time for our food. There was only one server handling the whole restaurant, and she was clearly struggling despite there not being too many patrons. My partner's gyro meat was so dry, it looked and tasted like tree bark. Regarding the accompanying sauce, he said, "If that was tzatziki, that was unlike any tzatziki I have ever tasted." He did not mean this as complimentary. They were out of baba ghanoush and the restaurant offered to double the hummus to make up for it. Baba ghanoush was the main thing my friend and I had hoped to eat among our orders, so we agreed to the extra hummus, but it was still very disappointing.
