    The basic looking dining area.

After four years since my initial review, I submit this as an update. I'm fortunate to live in a region of the Bay Area where there are a lot of Filipino restaurants and each of them do so much to sustain the cultural significance of the Philippine population of the area. For years in having this restaurant as part of my rotation of Filipino cuisine, one of their superpowers is their consistency for delivering good tasting food. Time and time again, I find their offerings to be as good or better than their competitors. Their service is great and you can count on being warmly greeted by the staff. I also feel that their portions are more generous than their counterparts. So if it's good food you're after, I highly recommend them. And as is typical of a lot of Filipino joints, decor, atmosphere and aesthetics aren't their thing. As you'll see in the accompanying pictures, this place is about as basic, utilitarian and modest as a place can be, as stripped down as an apartment of newlyweds. But then again, you don't come here for the furniture and art on the walls did you? If you did, you'd be richly disappointed.

I visited Mekeni Restaurant in Daly City based on a local recommendation. This is a no-frills, casual spot with some seating inside, perfect for a quick and simple meal. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, which added to the overall positive experience. The food was good, but I feel it would have been even better if I had arrived earlier, ideally before 10 AM. By the time I got there at 1 PM, many items were sold out, including the tortang talong I had hoped to try. I ended up ordering a two-entree plate with white rice, which was decent but felt a bit pricey at $14 for the portion size. Parking is metered street parking, and even during the day, it was somewhat difficult to find a spot close to the restaurant. I believe this place shines more with their breakfast dishes, so I'll plan to visit earlier next time to experience them at their best. Despite the timing, I enjoyed my visit and look forward to coming back when I'm in the area again.

We came in and ordered the lonsilog and the tosilog. The tocino was very flavorful and complimented the garlic fried rice and egg well. They made our food fresh to order, but they also have a steam table with a variety of Filipino dishes to choose from. The customer service was great on the day we went. The male server was friendly and attentive. I had a bad experience at this place a few years ago where I received horrible customer service, but this interaction made up for it lol. The restaurant is small on the inside but there are a few tables for indoor seating.

Good Filipino dishes. Even their deserts are good too. Price is resonance too. Children will enjoy their deserts.

We got a table of eight one hour before closing time. Our server told us last order was at 6:45 since the cook had to leave early for another gig. They used to close later at night years ago. We had our usual chick-boy combo sisig, grilled liempo, tapa and garlic rice. Our friends embellished our spread with ginataang sitaw at calabasa (beans & squash in coconut milk), bam-i pancit, chicharon bulaklak (ruffle fat) and lechon kawali. Vinegar based sawsawan and Mang Tomas made this feast even better. We all had water because we were binge eating that weekend. Another large party satisfied at Chibogs. Can't wait for our next get-together here.

Phone orders are also welcomed too. The restaurant is always packed when I go in to get my food. The dining room is pretty small, but can probably fit 30 or so diners at a time. Our staples are the lumpia shanghai, pancit palabok and bbq chicken silog. Over the years, the prices have really increased but it is a sign of the times wherever you dine these days.

It's a solid, no-frills, cash-only takeout spot that serves HUGE portions. I got a combo plate with half pancit, half rice, 1 chicken skewer, and 1 pork skewer for only $11! The portion size was massive enough that I was easily able to split it into another meal. The meats were so flavorful and cooked with the perfect amount of char. They were unfortunately sold out of lumpia when I went, but I've heard amazing things about it too, so I'll definitely be trying that next time. If you love authentic, affordable, no-frills local gems, this is a must-visit! Just remember to bring cash since it's cash-only and takeout-only.

Once we got a spot, while walking up to the restaurant you can smell the BBQ aromas from around the corner so we were getting excited just walking to the restaurant! Ordered Fil-Am special 2 BBQ skewer items with Pancit (noodles). Skewer options are BBQ Chicken or BBQ pork. We got one of each. They also have a ton of other Filipino specialties on the menu but looks like they are for larger party tray orders. Lumpia, Menudo, Adobo, Kare Kare etc. There's also a couple dessert items Turon, Bibingka, Biko, ube, maja blanca and Cassava to name a few. Took dinner home and chowed down. The BBQ pork was fantastic, tender with great BBQ flavor. The chicken was a bit charred and dry (took off one star) but was tasty. BBQ sauce was sweet and savory. The pancit was delish! overall a great cost effective meal and worth trying
