Longsilog: Still as good as I remember but now they open it up. 2. Tocilog: Sweet and I love the little pieces. I'm not a fan when they are big pieces 3. Chicken bbq- My niece liked it, it just had to be warmed up. 4. Picadilllo: I wasn't a fan of, too sweet and too much bell peppers and carrots. 5. Come early in the morning (we were there at a little after 8am on a Sunday) and parking should be easy. It's also a popular spot for takeout as we saw several orders being picked up while we, a party of two, dined in. Make your way to steam tray area and peruse the ready to eat dishes or look up at the menu board for more options, like the various silogs. We ordered with the patient (we couldn't decide!) ladies at the register and they will deliver your dishes to your table. We opted for a pork chopsilog and a bangsilog. Stopped by Daly City to get gas on our way home from SF and found this gem. Small Filipino restaurant that was serving hot ready made dishes and cook to order breakfast dishes. We ordered longsilog, bangsilog and tocilog...all cooked while we waited. We also got pork igado (sp?), beef caldereta and pork sisig from the ready made dishes...good portions for all! After four years since my initial review, I submit this as an update. I'm fortunate to live in a region of the Bay Area where there are a lot of Filipino restaurants and each of them do so much to sustain the cultural significance of the Philippine population of the area. For years in having this restaurant as part of my rotation of Filipino cuisine, one of their superpowers is their consistency for delivering good tasting food. Time and time again, I find their offerings to be as good or better than their competitors. Their service is great and you can count on being warmly greeted by the staff. I also feel that their portions are more generous than their counterparts. So if it's good food you're after, I highly recommend them. And as is typical of a lot of Filipino joints, decor, atmosphere and aesthetics aren't their thing. As you'll see in the accompanying pictures, this place is about as basic, utilitarian and modest as a place can be, as stripped down as an apartment of newlyweds. But then again, you don't come here for the furniture and art on the walls did you? If you did, you'd be richly disappointed. read more

I visited Mekeni Restaurant in Daly City based on a local recommendation. This is a no-frills, casual spot with some seating inside, perfect for a quick and simple meal. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, which added to the overall positive experience. The food was good, but I feel it would have been even better if I had arrived earlier, ideally before 10 AM. By the time I got there at 1 PM, many items were sold out, including the tortang talong I had hoped to try. I ended up ordering a two-entree plate with white rice, which was decent but felt a bit pricey at $14 for the portion size. Parking is metered street parking, and even during the day, it was somewhat difficult to find a spot close to the restaurant. I believe this place shines more with their breakfast dishes, so I'll plan to visit earlier next time to experience them at their best. Cute little hole in the wall. Never seen more than two people working there so it's a really tight back there I'd presume. They offer quality breakfast silog, sides, and a la carte entrees. They tend to have some different options available sometimes so you might want to peek inside and see what's up. I've tried all their breakfast meats and you can't go wrong with any of them. Not a huge fan of the fish but that's an acquired taste. Portions are pretty generous and if I wasn't a big back it could def be split into two meals. We came in and ordered the lonsilog and the tosilog. The tocino was very flavorful and complimented the garlic fried rice and egg well. They made our food fresh to order, but they also have a steam table with a variety of Filipino dishes to choose from. The customer service was great on the day we went. The male server was friendly and attentive. I had a bad experience at this place a few years ago where I received horrible customer service, but this interaction made up for it lol. This was for their delivery service on Friday, Feb 14, 2025. My mother passed away Mon., Feb 10, 2025 and she requested a full on meal to be served at the viewing. Me Keni was the only place who was able to help us. Arnold and Myra were very helpful and I'm so appreciative of their kindness. We ordered the following dishes: pancit bijou, pork menudo, chicken adobo (we had left overs and was going to make adobo fried rice), Pinakbet (loved it, not too salty at all), Turon (not sweet at all), lumping Shanghai and I think mechado. We had about 200 guests and they all loved the food and said it was very good. Their restaurant is located at Top of the Hill on Mission Street. It's a small, quaint restaurant but they are very friendly and helpful. Parking is a bit of a challenge but give them a try. It is cash ONLY. Bangsilog is fried filet of bangus not just a tail or head as other places. Tapsilog is tasty legit Tapa, marinated and fried, not just beef topped with vinegar. Topped with 2 eggs over steamed rice and small portion of jalapeno in white vinegar. Excellent flavors, good portions, served fresh. Will return soon! Reasonably priced to boot! read more

The food here is so good, probably one of my favorite spots for Filipino breakfast. They are cash only and sometimes parking can be hard but last time when we had trouble parking to pick up food the waitress said we could just park in front and call and they'll give it to us- which I thought was really nice. I would definitely like to try everything here but every time I come I always end up getting the same Filipino breakfast, it's that good. I used to live across the street from this place and my fiance would always get food here in the morning and sometimes for dinner. I have to warn everyone now that it's CASH ONLY - they do not accept card. There is an ATM at the liquor store down the street, but that's the nearest ATM. Also, parking is hard to find around here and it's mostly metered parking. I had the "luxury" of living here for almost 4-5 years and most apartments/houses around this area have multiple cars which take up most of the parking. You'll definitely find some across the street, but metered. Otherwise, if you're coming from Daly City Bart, it's just a walk up the hill or you can take the 120-121 up and it drops you off in front. Their menu rotates each day, so sometimes they won't have your favorite Filipino dish here. My favorites here are the menudo, the tortang talong, sisig, adobo, sinigang, lumpia, beef caldereta, and their carioca (they don't have it too often). I've tried my fiance's dinuguan but I'm not too fancy about pork blood tbh (you don't taste it much in this dish, but I have some childhood memories of not liking it). I forgot how much pricing was, but my fiance and I usually ordered a two item meal for both of us, and it averages around $20-25, but things could have changed. Love this place, home cook meals are the best! People are nice and friendly, the place is similar to your local karinderia in the Philippines. We ordered two silog meals, tapa and pork chop which is very garlicky and tapa reminds me of my mom's recipe. Makeni is my one stop for delicious Filipino food. I love the tocilog, delicious tocino, and the perfect cooked egg. Bbq skewers are too notch and might even be better than Fil-am. Last but not least the perfect dessert at the end of a good meal, the turon. It is really crispy and flavorful. My other other favorite foods are the sisig, beef kalderetta and chicken afritada. Came here for the first time in a very long while. I used to live in the area but left then came back. This was a spot in my younger days and I had the opportunity to introduce my daughter. The interior has changed and they have a little more room. The place was clean and tables were organized well. Prices were definitely not the same as back then but I totally understand. I felt we still got excellent value. I wasn't here for fine dining just a lot of comfort food for a fair price. That's exactly what I got and excellent customer service. I will be returning soon. We ordered the pork chop silog, longsilog, torta talong, and turon. The chop had a big piece of fat, some people get turned off but not me lol. All tasted as expected but the portions were amazing. Another hole in the wall Filipino restaurant in Daly City! First off, the Filipino ladies who take my order (via phone) are always so sweet. Second, the tselogs (Filipino breakfast meat, eggs, and rice) are one of the best in the DC area. It's a little more expensive than their neighbor Gateway, but the quality of food is definitely better. I always get the tapsilog/longsilog combo ($9.50 + tax) so good!! The tapa (marinated beef) is flavorful and tasty, not tough or too hard. The longaniza is a nice size and not straight up fat. Oh and if you get the longsilog no combo, they give you THREE longaniza!! -- that's different because usually other places are stingy and only give you two! They have other stuff, turo turo (pick your own entree + rice) their selection varies from time to time. Filam's worthy contender! I must have eaten here a handful of times. My family would bring food after church from Mekeni. The food is spot on! Sweet Filipino spaghetti, chicken bbq like filam without the crowd, pancit that will kick Isla's in San Bruno to the curve. They do catering. Service is good. Time to eat.....where should I go.....MEKENI it is! In having just gotten off of work I was hungry and looking for some BBQ. I knew that Mekeni was a spot that I heard about that had some good BBQ so I made my way to the top of the hill in Daly City. While I was expecting parking to be a nuisance it was rather easy. I found a nice side street to park and walked on over. I almost missed this place because of the business right next door to it. The doors looked like they are apart of one business but the doors are separate from one another. As you walk into the restaurant you see that this place goes straight back. There are a few tables, TV, and the kitchen which is in the far back. As you walk you to the register you can see the menu above the register on the wall. The food is all placed in the stainless steel food pans which helps ordering here helpful if you are unfamiliar with the food options. Luckily, I knew what I wanted. I also saw that the have breakfast here as well which is good to know for the future. I saw that they had Mackerel for serving but I just did not have time to enjoy such a meal today. I went with the BBQ, bistek, and adobo. The pricing of this meal was sweet. Got all of this for under $12.00 which caused me to celebrate just a bit. The service was good. There were only 5 people here eating and watching SHOWTIME on TFC, classic! Nice people and decently clean, much to my liking. After receiving my food I was on my way. I had a few more stops along the way but when I finally got to the food I was ready. The food was GREAT. I immediately saw that the portion sizes here are NICE! I appreciate the size of the rice portions as well as those for the bistek and the adobo, THANK YOU MUCH! The BISTEK was good but even better when I added some the sauce from the adobo, WINNING! The adobo was just as good. Good chunks of chicken with rice, CLASSIC! Lastly, the BBQ was perfect! This is another hole in the wall filipino resto. I do remember it as a karaoke restaurant before but management changed I don't know how long ago. Tapsilog is the best. Authentic and home made taste is the reason why I keep coming back. Silogs are made to order so it may take a while. The price is not too bad. If you're on a tight budget and want good quality food, this is the place to go. I rarely eat pork but their pork sisig is really good. I went here on 9/9/2019 on a Monday morning to have breakfast. This restaurant was recommended by my co-workers. I've ordered a two item over rice which consists of 2 scoops of rice, beef sinigang and chicken adobo for $8.24. Coke in can I think was $1.25. The adobo was good. The sinigang was so-so. It was served almost cold. My order was good for 2 people actually. Due to the amount of servings I was able to finish all of it lol. I knocked down 4 stars because the service was awful! The cashier/servers were rude. I asked to add Coke in can please and the response to me was "Kunin mo sa ref!" in english "Go get it yourself!" In the back of my mind i was "WTF did just happened?!" I won't be coming back here even if the food was good. Parking here is 30 minutes/1 hour limit so please bring coins for that. And they only accept cash. read more

Mekeni Restaurant & Karaoke Bar is your typical turo-turo Filipino restaurant in Daly City. In addition to the steam table operation it also has an all-day made to order breakfast menu (Silog). Unlike other turo-turo places Mekeni is a decent sized restaurant. I've been here about half a dozen times for lunch and each time have found it to be about half full which I've taken as a good sign. It is located on Mission in an area where finding parking would be impossible during weekdays but it's not too difficult to find a spot in the lot just ahead of the restaurant on weekends. The dishes in the steam table operation rotate but they always seem to have at-least one Chicken item (adobo, caldereta etc.) so I stick to getting a one item combo to-go ($5). They always try to push the chicken BBQ when I ask for chicken but unlike Fil-Am where you can see them freshly grill the BBQ behind the counter, I'm not sure of the freshness of the BBQ at Mekeni so I generally avoid that. The taste of the food can be described as authentic, which means that it comes certified to give you a heart attack at 60 if you eat this every day, but its fine for once a week that I restrict myself to. Price-wise it's about 10% more expensive than Fil-Am the other turo-turo place that I generally rotate with Mekeni. I like the food here better but pick Mekeni for the freshly grilled BBQ. The only drawback that I can think of is that they don't seem to have any beef items on the weekends but that is a minor problem that will not prevent me from coming back periodically. read more
