We stopped in around 7pm on Saturday and there was only a handful of dinners, so we were able to get seated right away. The service was quick and food came out fast. They do close at 8pm, so as it got close to 8pm, we could see them starting to prepare to close, but they did not rush us. Food here is pretty consistently good. We ordered: Sizzling Bangus Belly, Mussels Sauté, Crispy Pata and Crispy Binagoongan. Everything was delicious and makes you want to eat more rice! So far we have not had a bad dish here. The ambience was perpetually lackluster because of location and design. It could be better, to catch more attention. The service was decent on a busy day. The price was reasonable and for the food on the other end was bland, with a bitter aftertaste. For those who said they weren't informed about the service charge, it literally says it on the menu. So just because the customer didn't see it, doesn't mean it wasnt posted. The serving size was big for each item so the price point was really good. Great value for the food. The dishes itself were amazing in flavor. Everything was fresh. We drove separately and found good parking on the street. Dinner started at 5 pm so we just walked in for a party of 5. It was still quiet but shortly after people started coming. We ordered the Kare Kare, Beef Sinigang, Sizzling Sisig, Pakbet Ilocano and steamed rice. The dishes were promptly served and generous serving sizes. When we saw the food it made us more hungry as we did not have lunch as the show started at 1 pm. The beef was so tender. The veggies were fresh and tasty. Drinking the broth from the bowl was so delicious. The cooking of the kare kare was so satisfying. For dessert we ordered two Halo Halo. I liked how they served it because they had enough of sweet assortments. I took the pictures of the food and I forgot the Halo Halo. There were two servers and they were nice pleasing everyone on the table. The dining room was clean. The place was simply decorated. The automatic tip of 18% was fair for everything. Reading the reviews, I don't understand why the other diners have to be surprised about the auto tip. I went there around 7pm an hour before they close. I was craving for kare kare so i ordered it. The flavor was ok but it can be better. Serving was big tho. This review is based solely on my most recent experience. We catered for Christmas Eve, to be picked up at 3pm. Lumpia, pancit, and lechon kawali. I get there at 315, and they pull out a pack of frozen lumpia, placed it on the kitchen counter and yell to the back that they need the lechon. Horrible, traumatizing experience for our disabled child. Customer service and lack of empathy is ridiculous. We are a party of 9 with a service dog. We enter the restaurant. It is not very busy with plenty of available seats. The hostess/waitress immediately "You can't come in here" and motions her hand towards our daughter's service dog. We inform her that she is a service animal and she continues to state that we can't bring her in. She won't even come up to us and is saying this while continuing to multi-task in the restaurant. I ask her why we cannot and she keeps saying that we just can't. And I keep letting her know that we have a service animal and even point to the sign on their door. She then says we need a paper. I inform her that I have documentation and the service dog has tags, and she continues to say we can't bring the service dog in. She doesn't even attempt to look at any documentation. At this point, our party doesn't want to dine there anymore but I felt this still needed to be addressed since it isn't right. I asked again why we couldn't come in if we had a service animal. And she rudely responds talking under her breath and shaking her head. She then goes over to the other staff and it appears she asks one of them and they continue to say no. I stated to her, "so you're denying us access here due to our service animal". Again she shakes her, talks under her breath, and keeps trying to multi-task on the floor. We then walk out after about 5-10 minutes of this interaction. She follows us out and says she called the owner and we can come in but we need to stay on the side and my daughter's service dog needs to be put in the corner. I told her "no thank you, we're leaving" and also mentioned that we will be reporting this establishment to the ADA for denying us access due to our service animal. Sad, sad day. I was very disappointed by my visit to this restaurant. Staff is impatient, rude, and non-attentive. When I arrived I was waiting alongside a couple of other groups waiting to be seated, and it took quite some time for any of us to get acknowledged by the workers. Eventually a lady approached my mother and I and asked how many were in our party, and I let her know it was a party of two and without saying anything she quickly walked away to a table. Confused, I followed just for the lady to yell "Not yet!" when she noticed I came along. Communication from staff can go a long way during situations like these with customers. As for the food, I will say the dishes are decently priced and portions are quite big. However, flavor wise everything was overly salty (aside from lumpia). Sisig was quite dry, and I wasn't a fan of the canned jalapeños as a topping. Lumpia was decently sized, and it tasted like your average lumpia. Lastly, something I really wanted to note was the fact that the person who took our bill along with my mother's card chose the tip themselves. We were only a party of two, so automatic gratuity should not have been made on behalf of staff instead of the cardholder themselves. Amazing portions here and fast service! It all tasted so amazing and truly reminds me of homemade Filipino food. The chicken tinola had a good mix of chicken and vegetables with the amazing gingery and garlicky broth. Pancit Bihon was a huge plate and was very flavorful! Having grown up in the Bay Area, especially around South San Francisco and Daly City, the Filipino influence is strong so one can expect that the cuisine is a reflection of that culture. It has taken many years for me to go here but Karilagan does not disappoint. The interior is simple, elements of the Philippines adorn the walls and we also lucked out to miss the lunch crowd and were seated right away a bit after 1pm. When you look at the menu, it's extensive. If you love Filipino food, the variety makes you feel like you're at a relatives' party and they've put out 20 dishes with all the sides and you have to figure out what to eat because it looks so good. From silog options available all day to soups (bulalo was amazing), appetizers (calamari comes with vinegar and onion sauce for the side), meat dishes (get the binagoongan, delicious) and seafood/veggies (the Bicol express was my favorite!), there is something to satisfy everyone's palette! And the portions are huge! We came with a party of 5 total and ordered 5 dishes and went home with leftovers enough for another meal for 3 more people. My daughter was craving for a Filipino food. We waited to be seated , two couples were ahead of us. The couple in front of us left. So, we were waved to come but the buser/ server in a high voice told my daughter, WAIT!!! YOUR TABLE IS NOT READY!!! So we wait in line again. They are short of staff, the server is also the person that cleans the table. They are loud and yelling at each to relay messages while there were people dining in. I hate to give this review, but it was a rude service for a customer to automatically add tip without customer's approval. Honestly, my friend recommended to try this place because of their food being flavored good. The portions were fair for the price. The service was not pleasant, not friendly and accommodating. Thumbs down and will not recommend fellow filipinos to go here. i read some of the reviews which they did also automatically add tip on there on. Actually for a party of two, it's our decision how much tip we want to give them. This was a rude and disrespectful to the customer. I didn't complain as to respect the other customer's in there. The food is actually decent but I have to agree with a lot of the 1 star reviewers, a lot of hidden charges and the mandatory tip of 20%. Just for a table for 2, basically no service you're required to tip a large amount. read more

Great authentic Filipino food! We originally wanted to try Chibog, but they weren't open the day we wanted to visit. We got the sisig and kare kare and both were delicious. The sisig was a little too citrus heavy for us, but still good. The only downsides are the parking and the quantities are huge so if you're coming as a party of 2 you're most likely to take a ton of leftovers home! read more

This is our first time ordering here through DoorDash.... The portion is good. We ordered Crispy Pata, Pork Sinigang and Bangus with vinegar with Coco ChaCha for dessert. The Crispy Pata was big but it didn't have any seasoning whatsoever so it was bland. The Pork Sinigang was the same there was no taste to it at all. It is more like nilaga or just water no tang at all to it, so I had to remedy it at home myself to add flavor. The Coco ChaCha dessert was the only one that was good. I haven't tried the bangus (milkfish), so I hope it is not bland as well. read more

An unassuming hole in the wall that serves up delicious, hot, fresh, giant-sized filling dishes in a vibrant relaxed atmosphere. The milk fish served in a sizzling plate with their delicious vinegarish sauce was the best thing I had in a very long time. The pancit was delicious and fresh and the servings were huge! The price was cheaper than I expected for this quality and delicious meal. Note: Tip is automatically added when credit card is used or at least thats what happened with our order. My only push is that they ease off the strong chemical spray used to clean tables. I am highly sensitive to strong chemical smells and found myself uncomfortable and struggling to breathe at times.
