I've been here a few times now, and it's okay, but nothing to get excited about. Today, I tried the "Mekong Garden" -- which was chicken and stir-fried vegetables, and "Mekong sauce." The veggies were a little too hard, and all I had was a fork and spoon which wasn't much help with a big chunk of broccoli. I just ended up spearing it and taking bites off of it. The Mekong sauce was cloyingly sweet. I ordered a Singha to go with the meal. The beer and the glass almost seemed warm. The waitress brought my bill, but never came back to get the money. When I went up to pay, I found her reading a magazine in a booth by the cash register. All in all I was disappointed. I can't speak for the other dishes, but I get the Tofu Peanut Coconut Curry about once a month and it is one of the best Thai dishes around! I love Mekong and even my sister-in-law from Thailand thinks it's worth visiting! Definitely check it out if you're in the mood for some great Thai at a reasonable price. The Thai coffee is wonderful too! The only thing negative about this place is the atmosphere could use some updating, but that doesn't affect the food so, I'm not including it in my star rating. read more

We're been eating here for over 15+ years.. The food is always great & flavorful, great portions, and the staff is friendly. My favorite is the seafood soup with coconut milk (Tom yum kah talay). Great tastes & ample ingredients. The curry is awesome, & the Pad Thai is better than anyone in town.. This is our favorite restaurant. The only reason for a non 5 star is the furniture..a bit dated, but the food is phenomenal! We always have leftovers for next days lunch. read more

Both of us got combo #1, chicken pad Thai with an egg roll and a box of white rice. The egg roll was excellent and the best part of the meal. The pad Thai was under-sauced and therefor under-flavored. Overall Thai Garden is better for the classic pad Thai dish. I tried this place out a couple weeks ago and got the lunch special of Pad-Tai, with coconut ginger veggies and chicken served with a fried spring roll and a side of rice. I wasn't impressed. When I got back to the office and opened my to-go container. I had a huge pile of grease in the bottom. My spring roll looked as if it was fried in a fryer that hadn't been cleaned in a decade. It was black and it was grease soaked. The pad tai was gooey and tasteless. I was not impressed. I went back today and ordered the same thing...this time with no rice and extra veggies. It was much better! My fried spring roll was delicious, the pad tai was just right, and my veggies and chicken...cooked to perfection! YUM! read more

I never liked Thai food before I tried Mekong. Their selection is wide and varied, their spicy curry will knock you off your feet, the portions are huge and the prices are low! The service is quick and attentive. I've ordered carry out a number of times, and I've never had to wait more than ten minutes for my food to be ready. Not gonna lie, it looks a little dodgy from the outside, but it's nice and clean on the inside, so don't let the cover fool you. There are a lot of Thai restaurants in Olympia but this one, without a doubt, is my favorite. read more

I think this is one of the better places for Thai food in Olympia-Lacey-Tumwater. The staff are attentive, friendly and helpful. The food is good and reasonably priced. You can get the regular things like curry, fried rice and pad thai here and they are decent-tasting. Great place for a casual lunch or dinner with friends and family. read more

I've been going to Mekong for years. Love the Panang. Nice atmosphere, nice service and good food. I've never been disappointed.

Not so great, but not so terrible, either. My pad thai was thickly coated with a sweet gelatinous goo that I found distasteful, but I ate most of the dish anyway. I guess the reader could infer that it must not have been TOO bad, but I certainly won't be going out of my way to go back to Mekong. read more

I love this place. You can get a great tasting meal for about $10 and it feeds 2 people. My husband and I will go here for an affordable meal and its always really tasty. I've started taking people from work there and they are also all satisfied with their food. I usually order the Mekong shower with vegis or the curry. First of all it is very understaffed, only one waitress working the entire floor. They had the AC cranked up, it was a blistering 60 degrees in there. We heard one other customer complain but I don't think they turned it down. As far as the food goes, mediocre at best. Making it spicy doesn't equate to good flavor. With so much competition out there, I doubt I will be back. read more

For me the 2v version of Mekong's pad Thai is the gold standard for pad Thai. I have had it at every other restaurant in downtown Olympia and there's is the best. It has the most flavor without having to much of one part. Has a large portion size and lots of fresh ingredients and a line wedge to squeeze over the top. It's also very good left over possibly better as left overs. I would rank Narai restaurant as a close second. read more

Can this be a fluke? I finally found a decent Pad Thai place in Olympia? As far as the rest of the food is concerned it is too soon to tell whether it will be a go-to Thai joint. I was jones'ing pad Thai and have passed this place numerous times because lets be honest, the facade looks like crap. Well, the sun was shining and I just said eff'it and walked in not expecting anything good since Olympia Asian food places have been a major let down. Anyhow, the Pad Thai was good and plentiful! I had enough lunch leftover for a dinner share. I wish the place had more to offer in toppings at the table like Thai Nam Prik or fish sauce but I am realizing Olympia Asian restaurants are for the locals (Caucasians) that are non the wiser or that is a management misstep, thinking white people wont know the difference. ALL the vegetables which usually stand out in Thai food were frozen and mushy. The food arrived very quickly because it is not made to order, it definitely was made hours previously and kept in a warmer until ready. The chicken was dry and tasteless even though they poured a massive amount of sauce over it. One of the best Thai restaurants in Olympia. Years ago we were dining there when to our surprise, then governor Christine Gregoire and her husband stopped by for dinner. I wish they still had their combo dinners on the menu. But I love their Tom Yum Soup! Anytime I am sniffly /sneezy I order Tom Yum spicy hot (4 or 5 star hot).
