    Shrimp Risotto

The shrimp risotto was amazing and decadent. The service was excellent. We ate outside even though it was raining. The Greek platter was fresh. The chicken was flavorful.

Orange Chicken. Forgot to take a pic before my son started eating.

We stumbled upon this gem on Sunday and the food was so good and reasonably priced ( way cheaper than any place in Old Town) that we decided to go back again today and we were not disappointed. We had the truffle fries with parmesan and garlic and they were the best I've ever had. Our son had the Orange Chicken and it also was out of this world. The chicken was nice and crispy and the orange sauce was amazing. Service is really friendly. We will be back again before we leave on Saturday. It is that good! I am surprised both times wasn't very busy - maybe we eat too early or it's a little out of the way but it really isn't far from the cruiseship dock. You are missing out if you don't try it.

Great variety of plates. I went with a group from work and all were very pleased and happy with their selections. We had tables outside and the ambient and the view made our night one to remember. Service could improve, but personal was very kind. Recommended A+++

Came from next door to get some authentic Puerto Rican food. The mufango was good the tacos were ok. Not really what I was expecting but it wasn't bad

My visits to this little gem were separated by two years. For me, a landmark of a great restaurant is constancy and innovation, contradictory perhaps but it works. It works very well for Melao Bistro with its innovative twist local favorites and incredible use of everything savory about Puerto Rican cuisine. Two years ago it was out of this world, two years later It continues to revolve in another galaxy. I'm Booking my ticket for the next space Trip!

I absolutely did not anticipate this place would be as awesome as it was. Tucked away from the more touristy areas and far from the cruises, the food here was both incredibly delicious and surprisingly affordable. Inside was not very big from the looks of it but given the nice weather we sat outside and enjoyed the nearby breeze. My burger was quite thick and cooked appropriately to order: medium (hottest way to eat meat fyi). My wife's salad was equally good with fresh vegetables. We will definitely be returning for a nice lunch.

Lemon spinach salad and a halibut with cherry sauce yuuummm (the fact that i still remember it after 6 moths means its good!!!)

Best restaurant in San Juan hands down. The crab salad was bomb! We will definitely go back again.

I had the petchuga de pollo with rice, beans, tostones.. I also had my favorite appetizers, sorullios and Pizza empanadas.. The chicken, rice, beans were delicious as usual. The corn fritters were equally delicious but the Pizza empanadas missed the spot.. Can't win them all. But overall I had a great meal and will be back soon! Service was great as the wait staff were attentive and accommodating. As far as the ambience, it was pretty packed there was patrons joining their meals. Can't really remember if there was any music in the background. But it's a very nice restaurant. If you are in the old San Juan Puerto Rico area and are looking for some good Puerto Rican food I suggest that you hit this spot up. You won't be mad. Alright now.. Have a great one yall! -Ray

It could also be that we were seated on the top floor and not the main floor of the restaurant. We ordered the bacalaitos for an appetizer. I ordered the mero al horno (grouper filet). My husband ordered the fried snapper. The bacalaitos were good. The grouper was delicious. I didn't get the chance to try the fried snapper but it looked good. The rice and beans complimented the dish well.

Talk about great food and service!…read more Although there's always a line to get in, it does move pretty quickly. Our server was very friendly and accommodating, especially since we were travelling with our child. The manager was also very accommodating and friendly. The menu is fairly simple. You choose a dish and 2 sides. First night, we ordered the blood sausage for an appetizer. I ordered the fried chicken with rice and beans as an entree. My husband ordered the mero (grouper). Surprisingly, the blood sausage was probably the best one I've tried so far. The chicken was fried perfectly, not greasy at all. The rice and beans perfect compliments to the dish. The grouper stole the show though. It was absolutely delicious, probably one of the best fish I've ever had. A few days after, we decided to have dinner here again after my son wanted to eat there. The waiter from the first night and manager recognized us (from the time before) and thanked us for coming back. This time, I ordered the mero with arroz con habichuelas. The grouper was even better than the 1st time I had ordered it. We also tried the juices (orange, passion fruit, tamarind, and soursop) and all of them were so fresh. We loved this place and wouldn't hesitate to come back again.

The restaurant is medium sized, so for the sake of space they make you wait outside for a table. Our group of 7 was seated pretty easily but it also wasn't too packed when we arrived. Their menu is written on a chalkboard and from my knowledge, they don't provide any physical copies. My table got a variety of things but me in particular, I ordered the Puerto Rican sampler. We split it between 3 people and they said it could feed 4 but hmmm, I'd be skeptical of that. I think no more than 2 comfortably honestly as a meal. The sampler was delicious though and had all the main things I wanted. The corn fritters were a hit and the steak was well cooked and seasoned. While the food was good, the wait was a little long and the service was mid (not bad but not the best we've had). Solid 4 stars

I came in with a serious hankering for beef, and on paper this was the right call. Beef, beef, and…read moremore beef, with a big menu full of options and a good location surrounded by plenty more to do. After a full day of touristing, I'd built up exactly the kind of appetite this place is designed for. The vibe was solid. Chill, relaxed, easy place to sit back with a drink, and they've got TVs around if you want something to watch. The service was nice too. So far so good. Here's where it falls apart, and why I landed on three stars: the food just didn't deliver. The quality and taste weren't there for me. It felt like a fairly generic American steakhouse, which is not what I was hoping for in San Juan. Good hang, disappointing meal. I wanted to love it and just couldn't get there on the food.

Vaca Brava is a no-frills, gets-the-job-done kind of place, and sometimes that's exactly what you need. Easy to get a reservation, which is a plus when you're navigating Old San Juan on a busy day. The space is casual and unpretentious, and the menu leans into Puerto Rican staples without trying to reinvent anything. I had the mofongo with sweet plantains -- a generous, satisfying plate, well-seasoned and exactly what you want when you're in PR. My daughter had a steak and was happy with it. The food is solid across the board, the portions are good, and the price is fair for the location. It's not going to be the meal you talk about for years, but it delivers what it promises. Good value, great spot to recharge after a morning exploring Old San Juan, and the location alone earns some points.
