My dining companion and I loved the food at this diner-style restaurant. We found the prices reasonable and they offered a number of options. I enjoyed the Eggs Benedict with my perfectly prepared extra crispy home fries. My friend ordered scrambled eggs, toast, home fries, bacon, sausage and a giant pancake for $12.75. Pretty decent breakfast at Meldgie's Diner in Wakefield. One of the better breakfast spots down near the beach. Old school, typical American style breakfast. I got their egg, cheese and sausage sandwich on a biscuit. ($5) I also got a chocolate chip pancake ($3.50). Unfortunately, the pancake was way too small - sucks because it was really good. However, this might of been the best biscuit ever!!! It was so buttery and airy at the same time. I almost ordered biscuits and gravy because of how good it was. A power move was pouring some syrup on top of the sandwich. Had the feels of a McDonald's McGriddle. My brother got the Mexican omelette ($9.50) which he said was good. It was a big portion with a large omelette and a bunch of homefries. Wouldn't mind going back to get more of those amazing biscuits. read more

We just love going to breakfast at Meldgies. The food is good, it's hot and not greasy, the coffee is decent and it's inexpensive. They also have unusual things (like Turkey bacon) and good muffins. My partner absolutely loves their home fries. The service is quick too. We like this location the best (have been to all three) -- good booths and most open feeling. The food was slow to come out, the service was friendly (but slow), and it was loud and crowded. I think we were also unfortunate enough to be sat directly next to the bathroom...not as much fun as you'd think. The food itself was cold, salty, and sort of half-thrown together. And, not to be a stickler, but the specialty menu had a lot of spelling and grammar errors, so much so that it was misleading as to what was being offered. The toast wasn't toasted, the eggs were rubbery, and the omelette barely had any fillings. Overall, we went here because it was Dad's Choice, but if it'd been anyone else's decision, we'd have gone elsewhere. read more

This diner is tucked away off the street, which we hadn't noticed initially. To our pleasant surprise we found our new favorite breakfast place by the beach! We give it 4 stars for food and 5 stars because our waitress was fabulous. I believe her name was Dee- she was cheerful, efficient and made our experience better. While visiting friends in Tuckertown this weekend, we went out for breakfast. We ended up at the River's Edge Cafe. It was about 9:30 on a Sunday morning, there were plenty of seats, and we picked our own booth. The wait staff was very prompt in coming to get our drink order while we looked at the menu. It has the usual American breakfast fare, eggs, omelets, pancakes, french toast, etc. There were also many specials available. I ordered 2 eggs scrambled, well done, home fries, and cranberry walnut toast. My husband got an egg white omelet with onions and peppers. Our friends got biscuits and gravy and the special Chirico and cheese eggbeater omelet. Within minutes of ordering, our food arrived. My eggs were OK, although not as well done as I'd have liked. The home fries were OK too, not crispy, but seasoned pleasantly. The cranberry and walnut toast was the highlight of my meal. Which is why only 2 stars. However, according to the guys, the omelets were very good. Next time I'll have to try one of those instead. And if it's as good as they say, I'll up my rating. read more

We only recently became aware that Meldgies Rivers Edge Cafe (the latest incarnation of this location) serves dinner on Friday nights, so we thought we'd give it a try. The menu isn't posted anywhere online, so we called, and the cheerful person who answered patiently listed the dinner options, about a dozen or so. We ordered the Fish and Chips, the battered version as opposed to the also-offered breaded version, with baked potato instead of fries, and cole slaw. We both got the large, which means 3 pieces of fish (the regular has 2). We got it to go. Two orders cost $23.00, pretty steep for Fish and Chips in these parts. So we open the containers and there are 3 huge pieces of fish, the typical baked-hours-ago-and-then-steamed-in-foil baked potato, plain with no butter or anything, and a smallish container of very average cole slaw. Well, as it turns out, there are actually 3 rather puny pieces of fish, surrounded by huge amounts of batter, so thickly applied that, while the outside is crisp and golden, the area between the fish and the crisp part is about 1 inch's worth of undercooked, almost raw batter, which is totally inedible. This is not exaggeration. If we'd eaten there, we would have sent it back, but we weren't there. So we peeled off most of the batter and ate the fish. We are locals, and in this area of limited restaurant choices, we really wanted to like Meldgies. But frankly, there are far better choices for the money we spent tonight. We will probably give them one more try. But we would heartily recommend avoiding the battered fish and chips. Our rating would have been 1 star for the food alone, but the service was friendly and fast. read more

This is one of my favorite breakfast places that I went to growing up!!! Still love coming here! I had the eggs benny and it was very good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the homefries that came with it. When I go back, I'll ask that they be cooked well done. To be honest though, I am pretty picky with my homefries. Our waitress Dale was great! Very cheerful and friendly!
