Finished a hike in the area and needed a quick recharge around lunch time. Have driven past this oasis a few times and decided to pop in and give it a try. True diner experience, friendly staff more food options than one can list or think of. lol. Large portions to fed one's appetite and many leaving with to go boxes as well. Diner bar seating along with booths and tables in rustic atmosphere good for conversations over a hearty meal.

A big shout out to the waitress that helped us! Enjoyed the lunch - reuben, fries, salad and strawberry. The waitress also gave us pointers in the area to visit and to see the hidden troll and caught a bass directly in front of him! Also caught a chain pickerel for the first time along the path. So much fun! Thanks for the fun tips and making Rhode Island a memory for us both. Hopefully your son will move back up to R. I. And away from the hot mosquito infested La.

Stopped in after a bike ride and was ready for a meal on a Sunday around 12:30! Parking was a little tight but we were able to find a spot. We put our name in and there was about a 15 minute wait. We were able to wait outside on the tables. We were seated in the back, it is very tight inside but a very quaint diner feel which is fun. The waiter was nice. The menu has a bunch of breakfast and lunch items so a lot to choose from! I ordered the chicken caesar wrap. It was good, nothing super crazy. It was filling and everything was a good price. I was able to bring home leftovers for another meal which was nice. Overall if you are in the area a great option for breakfast or lunch!

This is a great diner. We went to eat here as it is halfway between the two new Thomas Dambo Trolls in Richmond and North Kingstown. It was a great lunch space. Staff very friendly and did not wait long for a table. The food came out without much of a wait. They have plenty of free parking. I tried the pastrami Reuben which was delicious. It came with a soup or salad. All of their soups are handmade. I had the beef barley and had huge nice chunks of beef and was delicious. The fries and coleslaw were great. My friend had their burger and was a good size and also very good. She had their burger sweet potato fries and were yummy as well. Their menu is quite diverse and they also serve breakfast as well which I will have to come back sometime to try. A great diner to add to your list. There is also ice cream place next door as well. It was a perfect break while finding the trolls.

Absolutely amazing! We left Foxwoods casino looking for a good breakfast option. We were tired of the same old restaurants. We happened upon this little place, "in the middle of nowhere" and it was a hidden gem. A real treasure! I ordered scrambled eggs, which were fresh and fluffy. Tasted like they were farm fresh. The breakfast meal came with seasoned cubed potatoes and they were by far the BEST I have ever had! On the side was a piece of French toast and it was delicious. Perfect addition to an already amazing plate. The service was top notch! Staff was friendly and talk to you like you were a regular. The diner was small but quaint. I felt very much at home there. I will definitely be back for another visit and round of potatoes!

Tonight I had a salad with tuna. I love their tuna--no onions! Very fresh, nice mix of greens, with cucumber , tomato, peppers, olives, and onions (which I took off ). The salad is quite large, I even brought some home! Service here is always prompt and friendly. The diner itself is no frills, but for us, it's about the food! They do not serve breakfast on Friday night, the only night they are open. The other days, they close at 3. Well worth the trip to the Middle of Nowhere diner!

It's not really in the middle of nowhere (this is RI after all, the littlest state of the union) but it is in a fairly rural area, alongside a main route. That being so, it's a popular spot for a meal or break. Service is prompt and courteous. The food is pretty classic diner fare although this being RI you'll find fried clam rolls, clam cakes, and stuffies, too. My wife had a very nice Greek salad and I went with a couple of hot dogs with sauerkraut. The fries were pretty good as was the side of Cole slaw. Not bad!

I love me a good diner so who says I can't give a diner 5 stars ? First let's talk about service. Coming from Miami, I can't remember when I have enjoyed warmer service and hospitality- I almost started to believe it was a lost art like phone calls. Andy whose last name I didn't catch is the security guard who recommended we have breakfast here and I am so thankful he did. I had a steaming cup of coffee with the Irish benny which was served over corned beef hash with home fries, served freshly cooked, I could not ask for creamier eggs.. just what I needed for this cold rainy morning. My man had the yankee pot roast with spinach and gravy mashed potatoes - tender and flaky. Also had a steaming cup of clam chowder- our first on this trip - delish The portions were huge so I actually asked for a to go box because I definitely wanted to try some dessert. I had the strawberry short cake which I as recommended by our server - I'm not much of a strawberry gal but I have to say she was right. My man had the Boston cream pie - both had a whopping amount of whipped cream and we ate to our hearts content. Cannot wait to be back in the area to try other dishes like the cod, meatloaf and sandwiches I saw on neighboring tables. What a find !

I got the Big Ol' Burger and it was so good. Cooked perfectly, the special sauce was delicious and as you can probably tell from the photo, the fries were exactly what I was looking for. Everything tastes really fresh here. It has that farm-to-table quality, but in a relaxed, laid-back (but still really pretty) setting. We came for lunch and I loved that they had brunch options too. We didn't get any adult beverages but I was very tempted by the entire drink menu, so next time! Our service was also outstanding. Really everything was A+. Once I ordered my soda I took in the ambiance of the bar, new lights, and the rest of the restaurant. It's not a large building but they make every inch count. Now, the reason you're reading this review- THE FOOD. I ordered the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich with a Caesar Salad. The chicken (photo below) was perfectly cooked, topped with hot honey, slaw, pickles, and ranch then placed on a soft brioche bun. The meal was reasonably priced as well at $33 which included tip. I will absolutely be back to the Shanty next time I'm in town.

The staff is super nice and attentive. It's an open layout and from what I could see, a well stocked bar. We got the jerk chicken w/honey wings to start which were SO GOOD! They aren't breaded or fried, which I like. Flavorful, hot and tender. I highly recommend them. I got the oxtail with rice and pinto beans. The portion was average but the flavors were spot on. Nice sauce and tender braised meats. My friend let me try her jambalaya, it wasn't like any I've had before, that's not saying it wasn't tasty it was just.... Lighter?! For lack of a better word. For having chorizo in it, I was surprised that it wasn't a heavier rice dish. It was something I would order because of that factor, however. It had nice subtle seasonings that highlighted the proteins in the dish. Very good imo. We got the churros for dessert and do me they fell short. They were dense and I overly "sugared". We weren't rushed and got to enjoy our visit and food at our own pace. I'll definitely be back to try other dishes. They had a full smoked BBQ menu in addition to the main menu, which intrigued me. Drop in and give it a try. It's not cheap but I feel worth the money and the portions, as I said, as average sized. I feel if they upped the cost $1 or $2 and beefed up the portions they may get a bigger crowd for that area. All in all def try it out. Cheers!
