I asked if they could do a pastrami, egg, and cheese bagel (everything bagel) sandwich and they said yes without batting an eye. It took about 5 minutes for them to whip up. I also got an almond pastry and a vanilla iced latte with...

oat milk. For being such a small deli style establishment the vanilla iced latte was really good. Pastrami, egg, and cheese was still piping hot when I got back to my hotel and had an amazing flavor throughout. They did not skimp on the cheese like I liked. The pastrami was good but not great but it went well with the sandwich. Almond pastry was full of almond flavor but not really sure what it was because I asked the guy behind the counter to just give me anything he recommended that was sweet.

A great affordable place for sandwiches and sweets off the beaten path of San Francisco's Union Square, Mellis Cafe recently opened on the corner of Ellis and Cyril Magnin Streets in what was once an establishment called Daniel's Cafe. I give the owners of Mellis Cafe for even trying to open a new cafe for coffee, sandwich, and sweet lovers from all around in these trying times in a section of town that could certainly use a little more attention from the city and visitors alike. Nevertheless they are trying to make a go of it, and with extended hours to boot, Mellis Cafe is a great alternative to those many restaurants and bars that are either too much for the wallet to bear or too crowded for those who want to get in and get out and back to the safe environs of their hotel room. What brought me here on a weekend afternoon was the fact that I was seeing a show at the nearby Curran Theatre and once that show was completed, I had a bit of a sweet tooth that needed to be satiated and where do I turn to first but my trusty Yelp app, as I was looking to get a meal that had something that was both savory and sweet. One of the top choices that popped up as I walked around Union Square was that of Mellis Cafe, which was a business that I was not familiar with, as of course they were still new. Look for the bright red awning for Mellis Cafe, and you are there, as they have a very small storefront, with some cafe tables for seating in front of their open store front. The menu at Mellis Cafe is separated into categories including Hot Drinks, Cold Drinks, Bagels, Sandwiches, Ice Cream, Smoothies and Juices. Since I came for something savory,

...I knew I wanted to nosh on a sandwich, and I asked their representative / owner Amine who told me that Marinated Chicken was a sandwich favorite, there was something about their Roast Beef sandwich that was calling my name, and when...

serving on my choice of a French Roll and with my choice of pepperjack cheese, along with lettuce, sliced tomatoes, red onions, pickles and pepperoncini. Since I still had to satisfy my sweet tooth, I realized that the owners were of Mediterranean ancestry as they had a plethora of sliced baklavas and other sweet treats. I was convinced to try a bite of their Chocolate Baklava and a slice of their Mango Turkish Delight. My large sandwich, which was cut in half, cost an even 10 dollars, while my two small treat cost a total of $9.98, which led my total bill to be $20.84 before gratuity was added in, which was on the pricier side, but well worth it once I got home and ate my fulfilling meal. Once I was able to open my lunch, I realized how thoughtfully prepared everything was from the sandwich, with its bulk and heartiness to my two desserts which were handcrafted with the love of culture and tradition with every bite. Each half of my sandwich was like a full meal on its own as the combination of generous slices of roast beef, cheese, vegetables and the French roll were the perfect summation of what a sandwich should be. What was so surprising was that the desserts that they serve at Mellis Cafe were so real and tempting, as neither were overly sweet but both very satisfying. I do wish the baklava piece was a bit larger, but the Turkish delight was a real surprise as the nicely sized bar was enough for a few nibbles here and there. I cannot wait to return to Mellis Cafe and try more of their wonderful sandwiches, including pastrami and tuna, not to mention their bagel sandwiches, as their eggs, cheese and ham looks to quench any appetite. With freshly crafted sundaes and smoothies, Mellis Cafe is a place where tourists and locals alike can find the perfectly quick and satisfying meal that won't break the bank, and to be able to support a new locally owned and operated business that has opened in an area that could use the attention, it's a win-win situation.

This is in one of those corner stores that look generic but is a hidden gem. We stayed at the Parc 55 Hilton and Mellis is located right on the corner. We ordered a two bagel sandwiches, coffee and tea. The bagels went toe to toe with other famous bagel spots. I had an everything with bacon, egg and avocado. Seriously hit the spot! I went back later for a carrot cake and devoured it within minutes. Such a sleeper - so worth the stop!

This hands down was one of THE BEST sandwiches I've ever had! The flavor was such a great and perfect combination of fresh and savory. I had intended to go to a place across the street but they were taking forever to let me take an order bc a dinner rush had just come in. I was getting hangry and so I looked up what was nearby and saw Mellis Cafe and it had even higher reviews than the place I was at. I now know why! You can smell the tasty food from down the corner walking up to it. The baked goods also looked fantastic. I had a chicken empanada as well. The person serving me said they were Algerian. It was my first time having Algerian cuisine but I NEED to have more!!

This little bodega makes way better coffee and breakfast than I could ever have imagined. Great fresh baked goods and excellent sandwiches. Prices were great as well and the coffee was fresh and tasty! Limited seating but we were able to enjoy our breakfast while most grab and go. No frills bagel sandwich coffee shop. The sandwich is only $11 and super filling!!! What a great spot to grab a quick easy delicious bite! The Dutch crunch bread is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Is a must get for the perfect sandwich bite. The turkey sandwich I got automatically came with mayo and mustard which if I had known I wouldn't have asked for it but honestly it worked so well with the sandwich I actually enjoyed those condiments!

I absolutely love this spot, this really is the cutest little bodega in San Francisco. They have bagels, coffee, sandwiches, and much more. Me and my wife got a turkey sandwich on Dutch crunch and the bread was the star it was so fresh and delicious! It's right by the trolly carts if you want to grab a bite before a nice little ride. My daughter ordered the Nutella on a bagel and a water, she was satisfied. It came out to 19$ for everything which is pretty standard for California anyways. They were super friendly, and that's a compliment coming from service in San Francisco lol. They have tables in the front if you like to sit and people watch or just take a break from walking. This place truly is a 5. I'll definitely come back again and again. Next time I'll try the coffee

This place is a sleeper. Located right outside of Parc 55 they come stacked with coffee, drinks, snacks and dessert. We got bagel breakfast sandwiches and coffees and it set up back about $36. Not cheap, but also for the area the convenience is worth the cost. For the dessert lovers, this is the place to come to grab slices of cake or cheesecake. It's a STEAL. $7 per slice. That's unheard of and it's absolutely quality bakes. read more

Walking around looking for breakfast. We were going to go to McDonald's and looked across the street at this cute little hole in the wall breakfast and bakery spot. The bakery items were beautiful and the breakfast sandwiches we got were delicious. We got cream cheese, tomato and cucumber on a sesame bagel and a ham and cheese on a croissant. The sandwiches were very good. The service was also very good, quick, and helpful. Although the drinks were not very good and the crepe was tough I do think it would've been very good if it was cooked less. But the inside was nice and we were able to sit in. This shop was within walking distance from my hotel in Union Square and was my go-to coffee shop during my week-long stay in San Francisco. This is a super cute street cafe that sells sweets and snacks. We were in San Francisco for a few days and we came here everyday to get cheesecake and pastries. The standout - creme brûlée cheesecake. I had it two days in a row ! The people are very nice and service was great! They are open late which is perfect for a late night sweet snack ! read more

Got a quick bagel before an event and it was good! However, a couple days later my debit card was fraudulently charged several times and I had to replace it. I don't 100% want to blame the cafe, but it's genuinely the ONLY place I used my debit card recently, as I always use credit instead. They may want to check for a skimmer. read more

Cute little shop on the corner. The pastry was yummy and the coffee was stout. They used plastic cups that I guess got warped from the heat of the coffee maker. It caused the lids not to go on correctly which made it difficult to walk around the city with. read more

This Cafe was right outside our door staying at the Parc 55 hotel and I think we went there at least once on every day of our trip. We would grab a coffee and a pastry in the morning, a snack in the afternoon, or a sweet treat before heading up to our room for the night. The variety of baklavas and other treats were great and I loved my morning mocha lattes. They would also have big cups of fresh cut fruit daily... the perfect healthy snack. We probably met most of the staff over our visit and they were all friendly and nice to chat with. It's nothing I would go our of my way for, but the convenience was amazing and we were so happy to have them right outside our door. read more

I fell in love with this place. We were here for four straight mornings about a month ago. My favorite was the bagel with cream cheese, tomato, onion, and cucumber. I have to shout out the Turkish delight too! My husband is Armenian so we eat a lot of middle eastern type foods, but this Turkish delight was insanely good! We even called to ask where they get it from and it's imported from a company on Turkey. Rats. Otherwise, it was always quick and the good we tried was tasty! read more

I do want to call out how much I appreciate the amount of savory pastries they have since I don't always want a sweet treat the moment I wake up. To note, Juniper is typically busy, but I have never waited in line for more than 10 minutes, even on weekends. They also have a lot of tables for seating, but because of the flow of people, it might be difficult to find a spot. Stop by here if you're around the area! They are also a sister shop of Saint Frank, so you can get some coffee while you're here as well.

Stopped by Mellie's Cafe in San Francisco and honestly it was a solid experience all around. Food came out fresh, portions were good, and the staff made you feel welcomed the second you walked in. Spot has a chill vibe that makes you want to sit back and actually enjoy your meal instead of feeling rushed. Coffee was on point too.
