Matt found this spot nearby on the map when I was having another one of my cake cravings. It was the only cake spot within walking distance that we hadn't tried yet so we had to give it a shot. The outdoor seating area looked cute and made me more optimistic, and the inside was gave cute quiet cafe vibes for real. The man behind the counter (presumably the owner) greeted us in a great mood. We had some decision anxiety choosing exactly which sweet treat to get. There were a wide variety of options, some seemingly more unique than others, but we ended up getting the tiramisu as they mentioned that it is made from scratch in-house. The owner struck up a refreshing conversation with Matt as he was packing up the tiramisu in a box for us. The only thing that made me go uhh was how he had to swat away a couple of fruit flies when opening the display case. The tiramisu here is better than the tiramisu at Stella, would highly recommend it. I'm a huge fan of having a friendly neighborhood conversation in the modern age of ordering kiosks and contactless pick up so I appreciated that the owner was chatty. What a great surprise to discover a charming, family run Italian cafe just steps from my downtown office! The food is homemade, the owners are always onsite and ready with a smile and a kind word. They recently started making pizza and Carlo (the chef/owner) tells me he makes his own cheese, his own sauce and of course the dough as well. The coffee was really really good. I had the croissant with egg and prosciutto breakfast jam. Also, really really good. It has this alley way entrance that makes it pretty cool and some outside seating as well as inside. Some say its the best coffee in SF but I havent tried them all so I cant say that. Found this cute little cafe while trying to find a bathroom after watching the CNY parade. So we decided to stay and have a coffee and some dessert. Im so glad I found this place. O had the MOST delicious Opera cake. It was so rich and tasty. It paired well with the glass of Chianti I had and my husband's espresso. They also have a great food menu too as well as beer and wine. What a quaint little gem in the heart of downtown SF near Union Square. We ordered lox bagel and cappuccino and it was divine. Perfectly seasoned with a tiny drizzle of olive oil and topped with a peperoncini which added the perfect hint of acid and tang to the rich lox. Cappuccino was very good, mild, not bitter. Would highly recommend as a perfect start to your day exploring SF. Stumbled across the Bella Café last weekend while searching for a cappuccino on the way to a hair appointment. What a wonderful addition to this neighborhood! I am back today for a study session before my French conversation class this afternoon. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, with plenty of seating both indoors and out and all the charm of a Parisian sidewalk café and the flavors of Italy. The staff is absolutely lovely--so friendly and kind. Stop by for a visit if you have some work or studying to do, need a coffee on the way to an appointment, or need a relaxing break from shopping. I am so happy to have discovered Bella Café and to see that it's part of the Union Square revival. San Francisco is back! My wife was getting her hair colored at AE salon, and I had a couple of hours to kill. Fortunately, a small Italian cafe had just opened in a charming alleyway adjacent to the salon. I was greeted at the door by Carlo, the owner, who complimented me on my attire (and rightly so; I'm a Fancy Man). I ordered a large cafe mocha and a lemon eclipse. Took a short walk and was greeted by really nice staff when I entered this inviting local Italian cafe. Ordered Carmen sandwich and it was awesome. Bread is freshly made. Mozzarella is made in house. Got a to go piece of chocolate cake which was awesome. Met the owner and one of his friends. Both were super nice.
