Fantastic. This is a warm, inviting spot that features dishes with flavorful and hearty, vegetarian fare. Tempeh BLT, breakfast sandwiches and tasty filling salads as well. A centerpiece large farm able for bigger groups is extremely well done and presented. Outdoor seating on a large front porch and further picnic tables as well. The spot is great for meals even if you aren't vegetarian. The flavors and dishes offered will cover almost anyone. My experience also includes that the staff are friendly and welcoming. I was just passing through and although we have some good restaurant / cafes in Pittsburgh, we don't have anything quite as complete and inviting as this. Slight con : they have good brewed coffee that is bottomless cup sold, but no barista coffee, as an Americana would have been nice to add to my meal. This is a very cute place and the food is very healthy. I had their best selling smoothie and I can't tell you which one it is but it's green and it was very delicious. I also had the tacos and this was an order of two tacos. I switched it up and got one as a chicken taco and one is a black bean taco. Fresh and healthy. This is a great place to come and have a quick bite to eat or have coffee/tea/smoothie with a friend. I was also glad that they had tables and chairs out during the pandemic. This place has a chill and relax environment for a brunch place. Artisty and rustic decoration give the restaurant its own unique taste. Their menus are not big but it has a little bit of everything for everyone. However, i do find their food a bit dry and underseasoned. If you go for their smoothie, it's a whole different story. Their smoothie carry great flavors and it tasted fresh. Though, the smoothie is served in a plastic cup whether you are dining in or not and it kinda goes against their whole aesthetic but it's really just a small passable detail. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this place is. There were a variety of items to choose from. My friend and I met there for lunch and there was plenty of parking which was nice. They have a nice porch for outdoor seating and there was room inside also. The menu can be quite daunting so I just got a salad with berries and added chicken and my friend got chicken fajitas. I told you they had variety. We also order smoothies since they had lots of options. My friend got the spice peach and I got the strawberry banana. I wasn't as feeling as adventurous as her. The cutest little place!!! When you walk in, you go up to the counter to order and they'll give you a number for the table and you can sit anywhere :) They have an amazing smoothie menu. I got the mango smoothie and it was fantastic. I saw a smoothie for tummy troubles that I need to go back and try haha. We went for brunch and they have a HUGE menu. I went with one of the breakfast burritos (amazing) and home fries (perfect flavor) but the lunch menu was so tempting. I would love to go back and explore more of the lunch side. Super cute spot with great food. Hubby and I took our one and two year old there for brunch and not only did we enjoy our food and smoothies but most importantly my children loved their breakfast. I had a salad and green smoothie and hubby had grilled cheese and tomato soup with a strawberry smoothie. We were both very pleased with the portions and food quality/taste. The kiddos had eggs, bacon, French toast and home fries and it was delicious. I loved the decor and they do have outdoor seating. They even had a little hidden nook for what I assumed was for either reading or for kids to color and play. Our bill was a little pricey, but it was to be expected. For three meals and two smoothies it ran us about $40-$45. You can tell they only use quality ingredients and there's no pre-made/pre-frozen foods on the menu. We'd go back again for sure. read more

This place has a nice hipster country vibe!! They hand wrote their menu on chalk boards using colored chalk. They have a variety of options for a diverse palette include those with dietary restrictions. It was lunch time so I decide to head to this place for something healthy and good. I got the Power Bowl with Quinoa and a Spiced Peach Smoothie. Power Bowl- it was perfectly roasted peppers, onions, zucchini, tomatoes, cauliflower, and broccoli. I added protein (grilled chicken) and it was toasted in a tomato vinaigrette. It was a nice large portion and cheat. Despite the low price, it was so flavorful! Spiced Peach Smoothie- banana, peach, carrots, ok, green tea, mango nectar, cinnamon, ginger, flax, and turmeric. A lot of stuff , I know!! However, it was DELICIOUS!!!! I am going back to get another one!!! They had a variety of smoothies for different ailments: anti-inflammatory, detox, power etc! At minimum, try a Smoothie!!! I picked this place because it offered vegan options along our route from NY to DC. I'm glad I did--it's cute and we ate well! We got the black bean tacos and two veggie BLTs. I loved the salsa and slaw that came with the tacos, and also that they were served with wedges of lime. I also liked the restaurant's selection of hot sauces! But the tacos were a little drippy and hard to eat. The BLTs were made with maple tempeh and vegan mayo, and my family loved them! However, the salad that came on the side was so drenched in dressing that it was impossible to eat. Next time, we'll order the dressing on the side. Other vegan options on today's menu were a veggie-quinoa platter, a chickpea soup, and a whoopie pie. All in all, a decent selection, though I would have liked it if the black bean burger were vegan. I wonder why I've not heard about this place from more people! Loved it from the time I parked across the street. Warm and welcoming inside. The woman taking the order also brought the food to the table. She was very friendly and cheerful. I ordered a Chicken Fajita. Big serving for lunch. Two can share. They had hot sauce for those who want it. But there was no need for it in this dish. They had made it nice and spicy with lots of onion and green pepper. Love the flavor. Parking in the back is not very big, so come early or hope that the place is not super busy. There's street parking available too. They have outside seating for the nice weather days. My sister and I LOVED this place! Aesthetically it is so cute and cozy. The food was fantastic. I got a turkey avocado sandwich save my sister got the crab cake sandwich. Came to Mellow Minded after a day out Christmas shopping. It was freezing outside and in my opinion freezing inside as well. I had never been there before and didn't realize that you order at the register then they give you a number to bring out your food. The woman behind the register was super nice and personable. We ordered- chicken tacos and grilled cheese with tomato soup. The chicken tacos were just ok, they weren't hot and lacked some serious flavor. BUT the tomato soup was excellent. The grilled cheese good as well. We also ordered a lavender lemonade, which is something I have only seen out west. It was nice, not too sweet, so you can add your own level to it. Great fresh healthy options. Many local items, and the right touch all around. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options if you're looking for that. The blackbean burger was very fresh/homemade, and it tasted delicious. I also got to try the vegetable soup and apple walnut salad. Both big thumbs up. Friendly service, pretty quick, good value, and a clean atmosphere with beautiful art. If I had to complain, I would say the seats are a bit firm while looking for a break from the road trip, but that won't keep me away if I'm headed by here again. read more

Like a lot of people, I have been anticipating this cafe's opening for a long time (so has my mom). It was really exciting to see the updates on Facebook as well as driving by and peering into the window to see the progress being made on the building. When I found out it was open, I quickly set up a time for us to go in. So the three of us, my mom, sister, and I, ventured to this cafe and were very impressed with the decor of the restaurant. It's a very original atmosphere, though it is a little loud given the acoustics of the dining area. Still, with recycled art and a very ornate mural on the far right wall, our high hopes seemed to be met from time of entry. Unbeknownst to us, this place boasts a healthier themed menu with fresh ingredients and good-for-you options; most notably, their variety of smoothies which have been written on the wall. These were very good and would fit the bill for a well-priced healthy option. But things tend to go downhill from there. After picking our smoothies and placing our food orders we found a table and waited to be served. That is when the luster started to wear off as the price seemed a little high... My mom, being a lighter eater, opted to get a classic soup & sandwich combo. When her plate arrived, a grilled cheese and tomato soup, the first thing we noticed was that it was rather barren: a small sandwich on one side and a cup of soup on the other. It could just be plating technique, but it did seem like she got skimped on her order. What's worse is that neither were very good -the sandwich was tough (overcooked) and the soup insipid. The next plate to be set on the table was mine; the onion jam. I was excited for this not only because it was unique to this restaurant, but also because onions are one of my favorites. So I get my plate and it is 4 biscuits with some "onion jam" on top and my cup of soup on the side. I didn't quite get the concept of the jam, as it appeared to be marinated onions plopped on melba toast. Despite not knowing what to expect, I felt this plate was less inspired than described on the menu. Lastly, my sister got the chicken tacos. And for a brief moment we thought that she had picked the best of us. They looked very appetizing, and for the first time, they filled the plate. Unfortunately, upon tasting, they were just as bland as the rest of our meals. In summary, I believe the scales of effort tipped a little too heavily in favor of furnishings over flavor when it comes to this cafe. It is a very elaborate design and has a very clever concept that has been pulled off just enough to drawn you in, but falls short when the food arrives. Lest you forget, this is a restaurant. While an artistic setting is appreciated, what's more appealing should be the meal. Still, they are new and learning and at some point in time I will return to see if they've improved. For now, however, my advice to you is grab a smoothie as you pass by. read more

I've been anxiously awaiting the opening of the Mellow Minded Cafe since seeing it's page posted on Facebook. We already had a coffee/tea shop in Linglestown, but this place is a completely different, and is more of a healthy smoothie, sandwich, salad type place with locally sourced ingredients. Their soft opening was Thursday 9/10/15, and my husband and I checked it out for dinner. The grilled cheese with local smoked Gouda and a cup of tomato soup was delicious. I had the BLT with avocado aioli. My only complaint was the tomato. It was pale and seemed like a grocery store tomato, and we have some amazing farmers markets selling much better tomatoes at this time of year. There was a small fresh salad on the side, dressed with a green dressing. I don't know what was in it, but it reminded me of a "green goddess" style very fresh herb dressing, and I ate it all. While we were eating, one of the staff members was walking around with samples of their smoothies. The blueberry smoothie, and the chocolate smoothie were delicious! They offered green tea and hibiscus tea for sale, but the hibiscus tea wasn't very flavorful, and seemed too weak, according to my hubby. Flavored waters were available, I believe they were free. Our bill for a BLT and a grilled cheese/soup and 1 hibiscus tea was a little under $20. I know the ingredients are mostly local and fresh, but I think the sandwich prices might be a little higher than they should be. This restaurant is still in their soft opening stage, and they are probably working the bugs out. I believe the official Grand Opening is 9/26/15. I think their menu will be seasonal (The paper menu I saw said "Late Summer Menu") so hopefully they will figure out their price point. The next day (9/11/15) I brought a friend and her mother for dinner, to celebrate before my friend moves out of the area. We shared plates. I ordered the chicken spanakopita. The phyllo dough was crispy, the spinach was tender. My friend ordered the grilled cheese, already mentioned above, and she loved it. Her mom got a pita pocket of a curry chicken salad. This was a surprise in flavor to me. The chicken wasn't dry, the chicken salad contained raisins, had a little bite from the seasonings, and was a good balance of flavors. There was an abundance of filling, so she wasn't able to actually pick up the pita to eat it like a sandwich, but no complaints there. The cafe is decorated with beautiful art and some really cool light fixtures. We were told one of the owner's nieces was the artist, and she works at the restaurant. I have my eye on a piece of the art, and may pick it up if it is there the next time I go. There is a blackboard in a small cozy back room where people can sign the board with "What does Mellow mean to you?, which was a fun touch. I think that little back nook would be nice to chat with a friend while sipping a smoothie. I will definitely be back. I'm unsure about the wifi status, but I could see this being a good spot to hang out with my laptop. It is a very soothing, artsy vibe, and I enjoy it. Mellow, indeed. read more

My husband and I stopped here for Sunday brunch while we were on a quick trip to Harrisburg. I had been craving pancakes for weeks but couldn't find anywhere that made vegan ones so I was excited to find this cafe did! The cafe is not vegan, but has some good vegan options/substitutions. NOTE: the online menu does not display their extensive full menu! I called and found out their full vegan options. They seemed very able to adapt and provide good vegan alternatives. Eg. an omelette made with tofu instead of egg. When we arrived we weren't sure whether we were to wait to be seated or not. There's actually a counter at the back where you make your order and pick up your drinks. I ordered the vegan quinoa pancakes with coconut oil and maple syrup. They were delicious and my husband liked them too. The only downside was that they came out covered in powdered sugar. Not necessary, in my opinion. The weird thing to me was their smoothie menu. Many options and great ingredients (avocado, cacao, spinach, fruits) but odd combinations. I ordered one and it was okay. I wouldn't order another one. I also noticed a few of them were sweetened with sugary mango nectar or brown sugar. However, they were very accommodating to remove ingredients or switch one out for another. Customer service was okay. We were sitting at a table right near the counter but I had to get up to get my smoothie. The lady taking orders also hung up from a customer phone call and said, "Why do people ask such stupid questions?" I totally understand her sentiment but customers shouldn't hear those comments. Food options were good. Adaptability to food requests was great. Price was reasonable. I would return for the food options, not for the ambiance. read more

The food is very good here, usually. We've been a few times, and have ordered takeout as well. The salads are well done. I loved the crab cake last time. My boyfriend got the steak dinner. Unfortunately, the steak was overdone. He ordered medium rare, and it was definitely somewhere between medium and medium well. He also said it had an odd taste. Such a cute little restaurant in the heart of Linglestown. My husband and I have been coming here for years. The food is always delicious and consistent. We have never had a bad meal. All the workers are so friendly. The front porch is pup friendly so on the fair weather days our pups can enjoy lunch or dinner with us outside. I also had my bridal shower here with about 20 ladies and it was the perfect day. They provided us with excellent food & service. I would recommend to give them a try if you haven't yet!
