Just awful service. Not sure if it was the waiter or the staff in back but it took us 3 hours to have dinner there. Place was slow but somehow it took a literal hour to get our pizza, then another 30 minutes to get dessert. And the dessert was a rock solid "cookie" with a scoop of ice cream on it. I ordered a pizza for takeout. 41 dollars for a large pizza. There were only toppings in the 1/3 middle of the pizza. There was only red sauce and crust on 2/3 of the pizza. The pictures show pizzas loaded with toppings but what you get is nowhere near what the pictures depict. Correct me if I'm wrong but that would appear to be false advertising. We used to call that bait and switch. Offer one thing and then deliver something else. I did call the manager and after a bit she did refund my money so I must say, the manager is honest and took care of this thing that I tossed in the garbage. This is our new favorite pizza hangout after church. Really good pizza (special hand tossd dough) and fresh ingredients. The kids will have fun playing on lava lamp floor squares and nice kids menu with colors. Zack is always our waiter (by request ) and the Manger always stops by the table to great us. Waited an hour for a to-go pizza. Came back 25 minutes after placing the order at the bar, after she said maybe 25-35 minutes total. She said maybe 15 minutes more when I returned. At the bar, a guy that came in way later than my order, had his large pizza delivered on a platter to him at the bar. Hmm? I asked the bartender if mine was forgotten, but she said there were just a bunch of to-go orders. Okay, then why did this guy get his when he was after me? Then I didn't get double toppings that ordered. It's so hit or miss at these locations; often not giving double toppings when you pay for it. Then, this is twice at Arlington that my order has been forgotten, then made after a big delay. If it weren't for vegan options, I wouldn't come back. This time, I was able to show the manager and he agreed that I didn't get the double tofu, and made some extra for me on the side. I'm not someone that complains easily. But over an hour wait is ridiculous, being forgotten twice here, and the toppings inconsistency is frustrating. I even left a tip, as I always do. So i was really excited to eat here based on the reviews and the decor. But then once we sat down it was one disappointment after another. The wait staff was so slow it took ten minutes just to get drinks. We ordered soup and salad to start and it took twenty minutes to bring that out. The mushroom soup was really gritty and had an odd taste to it and when I asked my waiter about he said ... I don't know I don't eat that. Well ok then. We had the Philosopher's Pizza which was so greasy that after eating a slice I couldn't eat it because it was disgusting. There was literally grease dripping off every slice and pooling on the plate. This place was pretty highly touted by some friends of mine that went to school in South Carolina. It's apparently very popular there and they were really hyped about being able to go in Texas. Oh the other hand, my boyfriend had mentioned that his sister had brought back some pizza from MM and he though it was kinda gross and expensive. She's gluten free though, so no clue if that costs extra. So there was the toss up. After scoring some tickets to the Rangers game, the short drive to MM afterwards sounded ideal. There was no wait on a Friday night 7:30ish, which I was glad for. Among 4 friends, we split an order of cheesy bread and hummus. Bread? Yum. Yum. Yum. Cheese was so melty and was very tasty. In the future, I will remember to ask for a side of ranch early so that I can heighten my experience with their bread. (Ranch is .30 cents or so, but very flavorful and a runny consistency, just the way I like it) Hummus was also very good with a non chalky texture and decor of outlining mellow on the plate with paprika. (Maybe? the red spice didn't have any zing to it) One of the girls and I shared the house special pizza. The small was about the size of a dinner plate, cut into fourths. For us, it was pretty much the perfect serving after the appetizers we all shared. The crust was pretty interesting, as there was a lot of it, and it was chewy with a bit of a different texture than I'm used to. Almost grainy maybe. Probably wouldn't have eaten it without the assistance of the ranch. The waitress split our checks, even 1/4 ing the appetizers. So 1/4 of 2 apps, a ranch and half a small house pizza, my bill came out to just under 12 bucks. I'd be down to eat here again- I really had no qualms about it. Decor was as expected - black lights and psychedelic posters you would expect to find in a depressed, confused teenagers room. Did I see an actual lava lamp or two? First let me say that I love Mellow Mushroom. Secondly, I don't like this location! Go to the MM in Fort Worth on Bluebonnet Circle near TCU. That location is way better. I am a regular at the Fort Worth location and it is wonderful. I was excited that Mellow Mushroom was opening a location in Arlington (which is closer to me). I have been here twice and it's ok, but the taste just isn't quite the same at the Fort Worth location. I told an employee at the FW location about how the Arlington location is not living up to the true greatness that is Mellow Mushroom, and he informed me that several regulars have expressed the same sentiments about the newer place in Arlington and that it could possibly have something to do with the oven. This is MY Mellow Mushroom. We are regulars. Sometimes we stop in and sit at the bar for a few craft beers, other times it's a Friday night pizza or those special occasion family dinners. This is a clean, well run location. Waitstaff is always quick and attentive. Bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable. They have a full bar, but their rotating (mostly) taps of craft beers keep us coming back. Most everyone knows about and comes here for the pizza, but the calzones are a hidden menu gem. So are the stuffed portabellas and meatball trio from the appetizer menu. Also, its not listed but if you prefer thin crust to their more traditional hand tossed, just ask and you shall receive. Once we went thin crust we haven't gone back.....but we DO go back to Mellow Mushroom over and over. read more

Oh Mellow Mushroom, you never disappoint! We stopped here for a quick lunch on a Wednesday after the AT&T stadium tour. Weekday lunch specials here are great---they have a number of different ones (slice & salad for $5, sandwich & salad for $5, etc). They were running an April special for a small cheese pizza for $4 and change. Hard to beat that! I'm a fan of their classic cheese and the house salad with the Esperanza dressing and am never disappointed. They have a pizza option for everyone though if you want something funky (funky Q --bbq chicken pizza is a favorite) or traditional. This location had a really color decor (check out the lava lamp chandelier!), inside and outside seating, and the nicest young man as our waiter at lunch. Slowest pizza place on planet earth. Servers are kids who don't care about being good servers. Even when it's not busy, plan to spend 2.5 hours here. Most of that time you will be waiting and filling up on water or whatever drink you get. Also, pretzel is just pizza crust. We were both blown away on how surprisingly good they were. And our left overs were even better the next morning! Gotta love cold pizza. The decor of this place is a little wonky in my opinion. I believe they were going for the hippy psychedelic look but I think it's comes off more as chuck e cheesy, so to say. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I'm giving MM 4 stars, simply because they have one of the best pizzas in the area. HOWEVER, if you are going to shell out $50 for pizzas and appetizers, I recommend that you dine-in if you want to feel that you are getting your money's worth. So, for a fun dine-in experience, choose Mellow Mushroom. For a cheap take-out experience, try Pizza Hut or some other chain. We'll return to Mellow Mushroom, but only as a special occasion type of visit. And on a side note to MM, try a little less grease on the pizzas. Our hands were slathered in it! read more

I will admit to some trepidation at trying a pizza from an establishment with 'mushroom' in the name - because mushrooms are one of the few foods that I cannot and will not eat in any way shape or form (except for 'tree ears' which don't trigger the nausea/horror/disgust reaction I get from all others...but those aren't generally found on pizza.) Luckily for me, they are perfectly happy to supply a pizza without mushrooms, and so I ordered their version of the all meats extravaganza, which came with all your standards. We ordered a large (16") for 3 people as well as an order of spinach & artichoke dip to snack on first. I really liked the spinach & artichoke dip. It came with nicely buttered and toasted small bread slices, but needed about 2 more to be able to fit all the dip on bread. I ended up eating 2 spoonfuls of the dip 'by the spoon' since the bread ran out. But taste wise, it was great all around. Even my 9 yo liked it (luckily he's not veggie averse anyway). We ended up eating all but one slice of the pizza, so it was about the right size for 2 adults and one voracious 9 yo. (I think my honey and I each had 2 pieces and the munchkin a whopping 3). I was very happy with the pizza overall. The crust was great - very light and airy, not at all doughy, but crisp on the bottom and not soggy. I am not sure what they put in it but as a spoiler that crust was even better the next day as leftovers, which is for me a rarity...usually day old pizza crust is hard and nappy but this was still soft and super yummy. They put a lot of cheese and toppings on, and all were of good quality, the cheese being of super-melty variety with some parmesan pre-sprinkled on there for good measure (they of course have a bottle on the table as well). I probably should have ordered 'extra' sauce though - only sporadically was I able to taste the sauce amidst the toppings, when I could taste it it tasted good - but I am a saucy wench and I like a saucy pizza. I will note that the pizza is not cheap. The large meat extravaganza was about $27 before tax...which is about the same price we pay for a deep dish at Chicago Corner...which leaves us usually with a lot more leftovers as one piece is really filling. Service here was good, our waitress very friendly. The ambience is definitely inspired by improper uses of mushrooms a la 'go ask alice', so if that bothers you... lighten up, or just order takeaway. (It's not like there are bongs all over the place, but it has a definitely colorful psychedelic decor). To sum up, this is far better than chain pizza. It's not deep dish and it's not thin crust and it's not 'neopolitan' but it is very good quality and a solid choice for your pizza enjoyment. It's a little farther from me than my favorite thin crust place, but it is open on Monday which the other isn't, so I suspect this will be my go-to place if I am craving pizza on Monday but don't want to wait an hour for a deep dish. read more

I normally love this place and go there BECAUSE they serve vegan pizza. Last night they were out of vegan cheese and said they would have some tomorrow!!! The vegan cheese they use is available at Kroger just down the road. You'd think they could go pick some up since they ran out. She said they never know how many people they will have asking for vegan pizza. It has a long shelf life folks. So, I ate pizza without cheese, like I do at any regular pizza joint and ate one slice. Arlington is doing its hardest to become hipper. Oak Cliff is making its way down 180, which turns into Lancaster, which turns into industrial Agg-town. Actually, some Austin-based eateries are already in place in the highlands--see Hula Hut and Rudy's. Austin is hip, so Arlington better get on the train. Mellow Mushroom is a good place to start. Heck, it has been in the TCU area since forever ago. The decor here is a bit over the top. It loses the typical MM psychedelic feel and turns the atmosphere into somewhat of an Austin Powers scene. The light-centric bar is super trendy and over the top. The food is spot on with your predictions: consistent, tasteful, but ordinary. Besides tempeh. That is somewhat of an anomaly. In fact, I am certain that most Arlington residents have no earthly idea what that is. The all-veggie pizza is surprisingly filling. The small can feed two, as they really pile on the plants. The wheat crust provides a nice chewy texture and strong base for the excess of toppings. The tempeh sandwhich was earthy and smothered in grilled green peppers. We had a mishap with the order; the sandwich printer was not working, so we had to wait upwards of 25 minutes for a half sandwich and small pizza. They really wanted to address this issue, so they gave us 50% off of our tab. That was nice of them. Arlington now has a hippie pizza joint. Most young towns have these. Is the population age decreasing? Probably not.... a huge Babe's Chicken is right next door. read more

The last 3 times we've been, the servers were more interested in having a good time w/their fellow staff members than taking care of their tables. Fresh, made-to-order pizza in a great variety of types. The Kosmic Pizza is killer and the Mighty Meaty pizza is intoxicating. Shout out to the baked chicken wings! The "hot" wings are slightly above mild at best, but you can't beat baked wings that are plump! Also, honorable mention goes out to the Magic Mushroom soup--I absolutely HATE mushrooms. But this soup here?? This is the ONLY way mushrooms should be prepared. With wine and in a bowl with cheese. YUMMERS. I would be remiss to point out that their bar area is fabulous. Decor wise, it's a top notch bar. The blue light emitting from the bar makes for fabulous selfies. And when the weather is great, their patio is perfect for relaxing and people watching. To contain my sheer glee in the face of such Epicurean delightfulness would border on disingenuous. What am I rambling about? The Mellow Mushroom in Arlington of course. It has rudely usurped Old School Pizza and Suds as the best pie in town in just its second day in operation. Don't get me wrong, Old School is good pizza but The Mellow Mushroom is superior, albeit much more expensive. Neither are the quality of Fireside Pies, but then we don't have one here in Arlington. Entering the establishment one is confronted with a hip, stylish decor and an a welcoming ambiance. The bar is large and is accented by blue lighting which is quite alluring. I think I'll be back on Friday night for some beers. :) I won't go over the whole menu, but suffice it to say they have a nice selection of appetizers, sandwiches and pizzas. I ordered the meatballs as an appetizer. If they screw this up, they're dead before they start. When they arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The presentation was quite messy, but I'm more concerned with the dish itself. (I would suggest to the kitchen manager, clean it up by using 3 large curls of parmesan in the middle instead of 1000 flakes all over the plate. ) The meatballs were quite substantial; paired with the chunks of Mozzarella and the copious amount of sauce it's a meal unto itself. The meatballs were beautifully seared lending a delightful crunch to the texture. The seasoning was spot on in both the meatballs and the savory pomodoro sauce that accompanied them. Good job! That dish made me happy. On to the pizza. It's a near facsimile of the venerable Neapolitan style. It may even be a sourdough, I couldn't quite tell. It never sees a rolling pin and is baked in a very hot brick oven (he never did tell me the temp). The crust was perfect. Crispy crunchy on the outside, tender yet chewy on the inside. This is what a pie should be! I ordered the "Mellowterranean". The olive oil and garlic base was the perfect complement to the chicken, roasted red peppers and feta cheese. Interestingly, they served it with Tzatziki sauce on the side. I wasn't sure if that was brilliant or just crazy. I think it would have been pure evil genius, but they have gone a bit heavy handed with the mint and it's quite overpowering; a distraction from an otherwise delicious pizza. I hope they fix that. The server was a respectful young man who was working only his second shift and yet was quite knowledgeable of the menu. That's usually a good sign. I can finally rest knowing that Arlington, at long last, has both a delicious pizza and one that's as close to a true Neapolitan as we are likely to ever have. I strongly suggest you give it a try, and unless I just got lucky this time I'm sure you're going to love it. I'll be back soon to try their meat lovers pizza (whose name currently eludes me). I absolutely love this place. First of all it has a great location. I have been here several times in the past few months and have never been disappointed. I am on a tight budget so their lunch specials are a great value for Monday-Friday lunch. I can get a HUGE piece of pizza and a great salad made with different varieties of greens for just $5! Or you can get half a hoagie and soup or salad for $8. (Maybe $9. I can't remember) One negative is that their soup is served in a very wide bowl so it goes cold faster than you can eat it. I also LOVE their artwork located inside and outside the restaurant. They do seem to be in need of more staff as Kimberly (I think that was her name) seems to be the ONLY server they have during lunch and she has to seat, serve, AND bus the tables. And she does all this extremely efficiently! When we were here recently I noticed a suited man sitting at a table working on a laptop and couldn't help but wonder if he was the owner but he never offered to help her. They have a great selection of beer and good happy hour. The food does take a little longer than expected. If I could give this branch 0 stars, I would. Let me preface this review by saying that I have been a long time fan of Mellow Mushroom, and I have visited many of their locations across numerous states. This was without a doubt the WORST Mellow Mushroom location I have ever visited, and one of the worst meals I've ever had at any restaurant. I got my order to go. They told me it would be 30 minutes (which is to be expected for fresh baked food). We gave them 35-40 minutes to be on the safe side, and the food was not ready when we got there. We ordered a spinach dip appetizer and two different calzones. The calzones were "ready" when we arrived, however the spinach dip was not. The calzones contained 1 half-full ramekin of marinara each. I naturally asked for more as it was an obvious inadequate amount for a full calzone. They felt the need to charge me for extra marinara (which was also half full). While I found this ridiculous, it would have been something I could easily overlook had the food been good. Unfortunately, the food was horrible and basically inedible. The dough was still raw, and I mean RAW. I don't know how anybody could have served that to a customer and think it was okay. We had to cook them for another 15 minutes when we got home, and they still tasted horrible. Not to mention they were already the smallest, most pitiful looking calzones I've ever had from Mellow Mushroom. And don't get me started on the spinach dip! We received a (once again) half full container of dip that was completely cold (even though we had to wait on it when we arrived) and had congealed into a truly inedible mass of i-don't-know what. Even though this branch is less than five minutes from my house, I plan on making the 30 minute drive to the Ft. Worth branch next time I get a Mellow Mushroom craving. Okay... I read the reviews which by the way are [7] 4-star, [1] 5-star, and [2] 1-star. Note there are no 2- or 3-star reviews meaning the two 1-star reviews were probably a fluke but more on this latter. A buddy and I went to the Mellow Mushroom a couple weeks ago as I'm really tired of Nizza Pizza and the extremely poor food quality for a couple years now since a new owner took over. It's a bit pricey with a three topping pizza coming in at about $26. Add an appetizer (the stuffed mushroom) and three beers each, the tab was a little over $50 for two of us. HOWEVER, I can eat half of a $13 Nizza pizza myself and the two of us ate half of a $26 Mellow Mushroom pizza so do the math... the $26 Mellow Mushroom pizza is actually cheaper and Nizza Pizza doesn't sell alcohol. We got an added treat as the owner's daughter was our waitress. I really respect a family restaurant with a LOT of employees starting their daughter on the front lines; she's a college student that appears to have a good head for business and could have easily been put in a more authoritative position but wasn't. The owners, husband and wife, came to our table at different times even though the place was busy just to thank us for our business but unlike Randy Ford at J. Gilligan's, who comes off as a used car salesman every time he does this and never remembers you the next time you're there, the Mellow Mushroom owners were genuinely appreciative. Their visit wasn't just a fly by either as the husband talked with my buddy about Harley's while he was at our table. Needless to say, we had GREAT service and we were probably the worst dressed (and worst shaven) guys in the place. The food... the stuffed mushroom, while really good, was one big Portobello mushroom topped with something really good with something dark brown drizzled over the top. I'm a mushroom freak and would have preferred the exact same thing broken down into a plate of smaller mushrooms but again, it was really good as-is and that dark brown drizzle stuff was out of this world. The pizza is the best I've had in Arlington and in a long time. The only reason we went to the Mellow Mushroom was because I'm searching for a really good pizza and I'm happy to report I found one. The beer offering is almost too many to comprehend. I'm not a fan of 'testing' new beer at $3+ so I stuck with my usual Bud Light but my buddy tried three new ones as he's not really as much of a consumer of beer as I. The bar looked empty but I'm really looking forward to making this my regular spot. At Don Pablo's on South Cooper there were about 20-30 bar regulators. After they closed we all tried different places to make our new home but never found one we liked or could accommodate all of us coming and going. Maybe the Mellow Mushroom will be that spot. To the 1-star ratings... like all things new it's a learning experience but based on the overwhelming great reviews the Mellow Mushroom has received, no mediocre reviews, and only two bad reviews I'd guess your experience is the exception rather than the rule. The waitress/owner's daughter told us they were still working out some kinks with the kitchen staff since they had just opened but also told us if anyone complained they gave them a free pizza.
